Verily I say unto you, one of you shall betray me this night…
For as long as she can remember, Cameron Scott has been plagued by migraines and nightmares of creatures, places, and events that couldn’t be real – no matter how realistic they seem.
Toby McCloud has spent his immortal existence bound by the laws established by the Guardians of the Covenant who were destined to protect him and his kind long before he was born.
When Cameron and Toby cross paths, everything seems to fall in and out of place.
A family secret. A dark past. A forbidden attraction.
Unseen dangers await as they embark on a profound journey of time, passion, mistrust, deception, and destiny.
Jeanne McDonald enjoys writing contemporary romance filled with spice, drama, and humor. She loves to explore the supernatural, relish in the world of fantasy, and dabble in the follies of the heart. As JM Dodd, she returns to the wonderment of youth and young love through the scope of Young Adult fiction.
She prides herself in being a mother, a friend, a student of knowledge and of life, a coffee addict, a philosophy novice, a pop culture connoisseur, inspired by music, encouraged by words, and a believer in humanity.
When she's not spending time with her amazing son, her dog, and her cat, she can be found reading, writing, enjoying a great film, or cooking for friends. In her house, there’s always music or a podcast playing.
A proud Texan, Jeanne currently resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with her family.
While other girls got boobs from puberty, I got migraines. I would have much preferred the boobs… Puberty was a bitch. Second cousin to Karma.
I shivered as I recalled the immortal signature of what I assumed was a demon lurking about the neighborhood. That thick, slimy sensation of being coated from head to toe with sludge made my stomach roil… It was darker than sludge, but I didn’t catch the scent of sulfur, which was odd. Demons always carried the aroma of Hell on their flesh. It was a defining marker of their defiance in the game of souls.
It was at that very moment my stomach decided to truly embarrass me. It let out a sound that would frighten away wild dogs.
Several flights of stairs swirled around and around all the way up to the top of the domes. I imagined at any second they would start moving of their own accord, which brought a smile to my face. I’d finally made it to Hogwarts.
My Review:
I rarely read this genre as I am far too lazy for all the world-building that is typically involved, yet for this talented author I was willing to give it a go and I am ever so pleased with my brilliant foresight – this was the bomb! Although, I was anxiously second-guessing my choice during the Prologue which featured Jesus as the main character, as ugh - I typically avoid Christian books due to weirdly religious parents. Needless to say, I have more than a passing familiarity with their heavily biased and hypocritical interpretation of the Bible, although my parents’ odd zealotry seemed to have glossed over the existence of Nephilim and the wars and mingling of man and angels. So, of course, I felt compelled to consult with Mr. Google and fell down a rabbit hole, something that seems to occur all too often.
Shaking myself loose and trusting this beloved wordsmith, I read on. Hot damn, this was an intriguing, cleverly contrived, action-packed, and brain-itching page-turner. I had trouble putting it down and am currently on pins and needles and eager to see the next installment. Jeanne McDonald not only has me ensnared but wiggling on the hook. I fervently hope she is banging away on her computer this very moment and near the end at churning out volume two of this curiously addictive series. I never would have believed it possible that I could EVER find Christian mythology this enticing. Ms. McDonald has strong word voodoo and may well have used bewitched ink.
This book is exhilarating, with a few twists you won't see coming. Covenant contains mystery, intrigue, & the paranormal. There's angels, demons, nephilim, love, loss, & betrayal all rolled into a story that pulls on your emotions & gives you quite a few things to think about as well. The words don't yet exist to tell you how much I loved this story.
Definitely didn't expect it, this book is full of intrigue, suspense, and love, it starts a bit slow but once it picks up it won't let you go. Cameron and Toby are some refreshing characters, this story will take you on a full-on journey, where you have to expect the unexpected with amazing twists. This is the start of the series and I can't wait to read more.
I have to admit, I really didn't know what I was getting into when I started this book. After the first chapter, I was thinking: is this going to be a book about religion? But, I quickly realized that wasn't the case once I kept reading. For me, it was a slow start getting into the story and characters, though I came to love Cameron and Toby as the story moved forward. And Cameron's Aunt Tammy was very special.
As the book hit about the halfway mark, it really takes off running. And, the twist in the last chapter was great! I can't wait for book two to continue this amazing story.
I struggled with the prologue with the religious references because I’m not a religious person at all; but I realized it had to be written there for a reason so I must be to help me better understand what is going on. I pushed through and I’m so glad that I did.
If you’re a paranormal fan then this book is great! I recently finished watching Supernatural and this book gave me the same vibes. Toby is a nephilim; thanks to Supernatural so I knew what that meant! And I fell for him hook, line and sinker. He is a bit rough around the edges but a total softie once you get to know him. I really enjoyed Cameron’s character; she didn’t let the struggles she was going to hold her back and she chose to keep fighting on. A strong female character is my favorite!
This is a story that will keep you reading and wanting more. I can’t wait for book 2!
What an incredible story! Jeanne’s imagination takes you on quite the adventure in Covenant. This is the kind of story you lose sleep over because you want to find out what happens. Covenant has it all. Mystery, intrigue, love, lust. I am impatiently awaiting the next story. I was in a reading slump before reading this, it was the perfect choice to renew my love of reading. I hope everyone enjoys Cameron and Toby as much as I did.
Secrets, danger, love, and lust. I loved the heroine and the hero. Their initial hatred of each other just sparked off the page. Overall, this was a good read.
First, off, who here loves Supernatural and The DiVinci Code?! Raise those magnificent hands and wave them!! The Covenant will give you all those feels and then some! Seriously! YOU will LOVE Covenant!
The Covenant (The Forbidden Series #1) by Jeanne McDonald is like no other book I have read to date. It danced with religion and what might have happened with fallen angels and demons while leading us on a mysterious journey as to who is Cameron Scott.
The world in which the Covenant, the Nephilim, and many otherworldly creatures exist is intricately intertwined. I loved the little nuggets Jeanne dropped us along our way. There is always a clue to keep our minds racing.
The way this story is painted will captivate the reader as they try to unravel the story alongside the main characters Toby McCloud and Cameron Scott. It will have them devouring this book to see what happened in their world next.
Cameron Scott only thought she knew who she was until her aunt Tammy Scott moved her back home to Philly. Once Cameron arrived home, she realized everything she thought she knew was about to change.
There is not much I want to tell you. I am afraid of giving anything away. I can tell you I LOVE Cam's sarcastic spunk. She is a woman after my own heart.
Oh, and where to start with the divine immortal Toby McCloud who hates everything about Cam's lineage. I mean, what could go wrong! More like give me him with a bow and all that angsty tension.
The chemistry between Toby and Cam was off the charts. The banter and the way they taunted each other to fight that inner pull. It drove me crazy in the best of ways.
This book is hands down my favorite book of 2021. The originality of it alone sets it apart from all others. Then you add in the characters and plot. I am hook, line, and sinker gone for this book. The anticipation for book two has me angsty.
The Covenant, the first book in The Forbidden Series is by far the best paranormal romance book I've read this year to date. It starts off a little slow, but a few chapters in and I was hooked. The fall of the angels, demons, and love stories have been done before, but not like this. Jeanne winds a trail of breadcrumbs with little hints of what's to come, leading the reader through unpredictable plot twists.
Cameron Scott thought she knew who she was when she moved back home but that's when everything she thought she knew went out the window. Toby hates everything about who Cam is supposed to be. The love/hate between them leads to some extremely angsty tension that I only wanted more of.
There is so much more I could get into. The dynamic between the characters, the way the plots spins like a perfectly strung spiders web; angels, Nephilim...there's so much, but I don't want to give anything away.
Supernatural with angels, plenty of steamy tension, suspense, intrigue, and did I mention tension? This is a paranormal romance story that rocked my world and left me with a book hangover desperate for the next book.
Loved this book by Jeanne McDonald which was an amazing read with lots of intrigue and suspense that will have you biting your nails throughout. I was not sure who to trust and not trust but I was taken on an incredible adventure involving angels and demons and Cameron, our lead female, discovering a little about her true self that was hidden from her. A roller coaster adventure that had many twists and turns but you do not want to get off the ride. Cannot wait to read more in this thrilling and new series. Congratulations to Jeanne McDonald on a wonderful story.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I normally don’t go for the romance genre but I really enjoyed this book. I could never get to the next chapter fast enough. I like how the author came back throughout the book and connected little bits here and there to make it feel seamless and nothing felt like it was just hanging out there - everything she wrote was for a reason. And the romance.... it even had me rooting for it. I know this is general because I don’t want to give away anything, but it’s a great book! Read it!
Obviously I knew I'd love this one. Supernatural lover here. But seriously, I adored the way Jeanne McDonald wove this love story with mystery - and didn't give us everything we wanted right away. And I can't give too much away either... so I'll just say that the tug of love / hate between these two was fun to follow! The history of Toby, watching Cameron figure things out.... LOVED. I'm so glad I got to read this one and cannot wait for Jeanne to bring us book 2!
Ok so to be honest, you should never judge a book by its cover. I love supernatural novels and I was super excited to read this book but 4 pages in and I was like, is the book only based on religion? Do not get me wrong, I attend chair and I am a religious person but I was ready for the supernatural part of the book to begin, lol. Thank God I kept reading because this book totally blew my mind. The characters are wonderful and the book was easy to follow. This was a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.
What can I say about this book? It's f**king phenomenal! I cannot wait for the rest of the series. Don't worry, she leaves you at a good place- not an evil cliffie! There are Angels, demons, biblical characters, vamps and a bunch of others beings. It's so well written and such a great story. I think this is her best book yet!
This book is unlike any other paranormal romance I have ever read. It kind of started out a little slow for me, but boy does it pick up quickly!! I lost some sleep finishing this book and cannot wait for more!
Jumping into adventure this book leads you on a story that has you held in suspense and intrigue. I wasn’t sure if I would like this book but I disinterested just like it Ioved it. The ins and outs of the story was well written with an attention to detail and the mystery held me captive. Look forward to the next book.
This book was not what I expected. But after reading the first 3 chapters, was hooked. I couldn't read it fast enough. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
This is not normally my style of book but because its Jeanne I decided to give it a go and Im so glad I did.
The 1st couple of pages did make me stop and pause but its an integral part of the story.
Cameron is a woman with awful migraines that are debilitating and her aunt moves her across the country to find some answers only she meets Toby and sparks fly.
Covenant is full of excitement, discovery and lust! Im looking forward to book 2!
This cover of this book had me intrigued and I knew I had to read this. Covenant introduces you to a world of demons, angels, nephilum, etc. This book may the first in The Forbidden series but it set up this series perfectly.
This was a good book. Secrets, danger, love, and lust. I loved the heroine and the hero. Their initial hatred of each other just sparked off the page. Overall, this was a good read.
Covenant wow, this book had mystery, intrigue, & the paranormal. With angels, demons, neophilia, love, loss, & betrayal all rolled into a story. I cant tell you anymore except I really loved this story. It will draw you in..
I could have done without the prologue, and love Jeanne's work. We all know the story of Jesus and I don't think it added to the story. I only read about half of the prologue before skipping to the first chapter. Once past the prologue this story kept me on my toes and I can't wait to read more in the series. An interesting spin with Cain at the end. Lots of action packed scenes and a few heart string pulling moments mostly near the end for me allowed this story to unfold in a way that kept you wanting to turn pages.
Jeanne never ceases to surprise me, but this book was so unexpected. Cameron Scott has grown up with her aunt moving around all over the world. She has been tormented with migraines for as long as she can remember, but her aunt is always there to help her. A chance run in with her neighbor, Toby, has turned her world on its axis. Cameron is being introduced to a world that she never knew existed, but she is eager to learn more about her past. As the days go by, Cameron realizes that she is stronger than she realized and her feelings aren't unjustified.
Wow so this story was so not what I expected from the beginning. Cameron and Toby have hot chemistry despite the fact they were forbidden. The Covenant is a way of life for most of the supernatural world but Cameron has no clue of their existence. There were so many surprises in this book and it had such fun twists on the paranormal. Covenant has suspense, tragedy and love. Loved these characters and can't wait for book 2!
Cameron gets migraines always has since she can remember but she also gets nightmares too, so when her aunt Tammy hears what they are about, she takes Cameron home. Cameron knew her parents died and Tammy took her in and they moved constantly which was fun but the nightmares are telling a story and when she meets Toby she knows something is weird because Toby has been in her dreams and she has never met him. Good story
I love a good paranormal read and this one was definitely one the best I have read in a long time. This is the first time I have read this author and I absolutely want to more from her! Once I got to about chapter 3, I was so engrossed with this book and could not put it down. Great writing, action and plot twists you won't see coming are the reasons why you should read this book.
Covenant is a beautifully woven tale of an ancient fall from grace, mixed with a modern day love story that had me turning the page. I was rooting for Toby and Cameron from the very start, and can’t wait to see how their story continues in book 2.
