Cane is a ruthless assassin, trained from birth by a clandestine government program. After it’s forced to shut down, he becomes one of the world’s most wanted men. But hiding in the shadows is boring; Cane longs to feel the same rush he did when hunting down the most dangerous men in the world, so for years he’s searched for work that fits his talents.

Helping find missing children seemed like a worthy cause, even though his agreement with the Miami detective forbade him from doling out his brand of justice to the ones responsible.

Years of dealing with the underbelly of society, sickos, perverts, and predators have weighed heavily on him, and when he stumbles upon a sadistic family responsible for the suffering of a growing number of children, he finds it increasingly difficult to restrain himself.

His agreement would have him simply notify the police, but this psychotic family deserves more than prison.

They deserve condemnation.

Or better yet, CaneDemnation.

About the author

Dwayne Gill

13 books95 followers

USA Today Bestselling Author Dwayne Gill first thought of the premise of his series "Written By Blood" when he was just twelve years old. Growing up, he loved action movies and larger-than-life heroes, which is evident when reading his writing.
However, as he got older, he became bothered by the typical action figure tropes and the predictability of the plots, causing his series idea to evolve further.

If you like action thrillers, unlikely, conflicted heroes, twists, and character development that has a much deeper moral than most other thrillers in its genre, you'll want to follow the series "Written By Blood."

Dwayne Gill lives in Louisiana with his wife, son, and daughter.

This short offering from Dwayne Gill packs a wallop. (pun intended).

Cane, the engineered behemoth, is ever on a rightous crusade to help those who need it. This story is no exception and the crusade even more righteous as it involves abducted kids and mentally ill religious fanatics trying to find the 'perfect' one.

As it is a short story, not much can be said without spoiling.

But one thing I do know...the world needs people like Cane to take out the trash...

It was long enough to enjoy and short enough to do so in one sitting. I enjoyed the action and suspense as well as the thoughts of Cane as he completed his mission. This was a very enjoyable short story.

It was nice getting Cane's back story. We had heard the vague tale in Conviction, but now it is fleshed out.

I haven't decided yet if I like this whole, prequel, side-story thing yet. I might prefer one large anthology in order already so that I am not constantly wondering if I am supposed to be in the dark about something or if I accidentally skipped a book.

This was a crazy story about a crazy family of religious zealots named Monk who had young girls kidnapped for them. They were looking for their version of the Virgin Mary. The kidnapped girls were kept in a basement and taught a messed up version of passages in The Bible. If they didn't memorize the passages quickly enough they were taken out of the basement and killed then dumped. Cane, the man who saved the current three girls in the basement, is a hero even if his methods do not mesh with those of the police. Recommended.

Vigilante assassin takes down child kidnappers and abusers. If you can't stomach anything to do with child abduction, this is not for you. It is a short novel about retribution and vengeance, however. And for the story, it was well done. I'd not read Gill before nor was familiar with his protag, Cane. Might look into more of this novels, though, as I've read they deal with different themes. For hardcore, gritty and violent-when-necessary thriller fans, this series might be looking into. Short read.

I have read all of Mr. Gill's books since first discovering this author through " CaneDemnation ". The stories are gritty, with violence as needed. The story-line and characters are unique and compelling. Each story comes to a solid resolution with no cliffhangers. So far the overall story arc has been continuous and seamless. This has been a intriguing series and I'm looking forward to the next one with great anticipation !!!

This is a great insite into what makes Came tick and confused at the same time. I enjoyed the way it spelled out the confusion and trying to learn what he was supposed to do as a person only ever knowing what he was trained for.

Not all monsters are created equal, and there ain’t no good monster quite like Cane.
So much invested in these characters now, can’t wait for Friction.

Interesting concept of criminal justice. I enjoyed the writing and details, but was horrified by the same details and results.

Well written Horror/investigation Book. I enjoyed the action but the blood and guts parts were a little too much. I will probably read addition stories as I find them.

I enjoyed this short thriller. The 4 stars is because of editing errors. I am intrigued to continue with the series on Cane.

When you start reading you won't want to put it down. Cane is a government trained bad guy who is really good guy. Never wanted to see the real bad guys pay more. Cane collected the payments.

Well-written, compelling plot. Quite violent, but I was unfamiliar with the main characters. Would read other work from this author.

This is a prequel to the Written in Blood series (which is epic by the way). I read them in order - no mean feat considering the others are full length books and not a short story like this one.
Incredibly gritty this is the back story of our favourite vigilante assassin Cane, the taker downer of child kidnappers and terrorists. Hard-core thriller writing done right!.

Cane, is the man we all want to be or at the very least he needs to be out there and real.
Thanks for a good read on a sad subject that needs many Cane's out there hunting.
