The Cortell Brothers #2

Collateral Damage

Rate this book
This is the second book in The Cortell Brothers series. It is recommended they are read in order.

Robert
I fell in love with her in high school and I knew then that she would be mine.
But life interfered. She moved halfway across the country and I went to college.
I knew she moved back home. I knew that her mother had died.
But I did nothing.
I was ashamed. I had walked away from her, thinking it was best for both of us. Now, thirteen years later, I can't leave her alone anymore. I need her, but convincing her that we can still be together is going to be difficult. I hurt her bad when I left, but that's just the beginning of our problems.

Anna
I fell in love with him under the stars. He was my savior when everything in my life was crumbling. But then he was gone and I was all alone again.
Thirteen years later, he's back and he wants me. But I'm too angry. The only reason I'm even speaking to him is he helped me get a job...with his brother. Now I've been caught up in some kind of game he and Eric have going, and I'm stuck with him.
I hate him. But I still love him.
It would be so easy to fall back in love with the man he is now. Deep down, he's the same person, just dressed fancier. But that's the crux of our problem. We're different people than we were in high school.
I just can't see this working, and if we keep trying to go down this road, it'll only end in heartache.

“Collateral Damage” is the second standalone novel in the “Cortell Brothers” series by the author Giulia Lagnomarsino.

If there is one thing I absolutely loathe is an absolutely dick hero and a spineless heroine. This book had them both. The starting of the book was good and I was happy to see that the heroine had a bit of a spunk but then the way she gave in to the hero even after she left her to go to college to chase his dreams was just too much for me. He left her pregnant and that is not something my brain can rationalise no matter how soft I try to be.

In my eyes , there was nothing redeemable about him and I just couldn't handle reading this book more. It was a DNF for me just because of this reason. The hero was an absolute jerk and then he expected the heroine to fall into his arms all of a sudden. That;s not how things work dude. I really hope that you guys like this one , But it just wasn’t the book for me!

This is a tough one. The writing is very good, love the extended family and small tow vibe. I looovvvee Anna, our heroine. She is a total kick ass heroine but - I can’t stand Robert, our hero.

Anna and Robert were childhood sweethearts. Robert came from a fairly successful and loving family but Anna had a tragic life when she was young. Her father left her and her mother and as a result, her mother developed a very severe drinking problem and being the one taking care of her mother. Both Robert and Anna determined to make something of their lives. Robert went away to college and Anna went to stay with her aunt for a while until her mother died and she came home. And once Robert left for college, he broke all his promises and abandoned her completely. He didn’t even bother calling her when her mother died. Partway through the book we learn why Anna left and my dislike of how he treated Anna became pure loathing. And it’s not a good sign when you loathe the hero. This all happened in the past and now we come to present day. Anna is working for Eric, Robert’s older brother as the office of his company and loves her job. She grew up in a trailer and still lives there while she saves to buy her own home and she’s very happy with where she is in her town and in her life.

But then Robert comes back into her orbit as she works for her brother. And he decides after 13 years of ignoring her, that he wants her back. While Anna was dealing with serious issues, he’s gone on to become a very successful divorce lawyer in Chicago and is a real shark. He’s wealthy, drives a sports car. He has women after him but once he’s gotten what he wants from them, he treats them like trash. I could go on and on about how despicable he is. When he sees where Anna is living, he’s disgusted with her and shows it. He wants her back and sadly, Anna is still deeply in love with him and considers it. I was livid when he expected her to drop her life and move to Chicago with him, never mind she doesn’t like his lifestyle and would never fit in. She’s a small town girl. And as for the job she loves, well he doesn’t care. In his mind she’s just a secretary and because he’s wealthy, he’ll take care of her. He’s possessive and has no problem telling her what to do. I hate him and though he apparently goes through some reflection and does a token grovel. It’s way too little and way too late. For me he’s completely unredeemable and I wish Anna had chosen another guy who has been in love with for years.

So it was tough grading this one. Normally for a character I dislike as much as Robert it would be a low grade but everything else is so good that I’m looking at this as a slight stone in the path that leads to the next book that I’m really looking forward to.

Collateral Damage is book 2 of the Cortell brothers series. It's an enemies to lovers, second chance romance. This story focuses on Robert Cortell and Anna Richards. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading book 1, Maintenance Required, if you want a better understanding of the characters and their environment.

Robert is headstrong, egotitstical, and frankly kind of a jerk. He's all business and married to his work. But when you peel back his layers you discover that he's caring, well meaning, protective, and wears his emotions.

Anna is hardworking, independent, goal oriented, simplistic, and lonely. She had to grow up quickly and never had much guidance in life. This has made her hard and distant from others, though she's still caring and willing to help someone in need. She's always put others first.

I have mixed emotions about this book. I really liked the characters and book 1 I Ioved. This book had a ton of potential with an original story line and thorough plot, but I felt like this book missed a few marks making it just OK for me.

For starters Robert and Anna never really resolved their past issues. They went round, after round, after round having the same arguments without ever really accomplishing anything. They both have deep rooted scarrs and emotional baggage from their past mistakes. They probably should be seeing a therapist. All their drama started getting really repetitive.

For how intelligent Robert was, he sure was a dumba$$ when it came to common sense and to Anna. He was totally ignorant and somewhat selfish, and his epiphany was generated by conversation with a virtual stranger, rather then being from the conversations and advice offered by his brothers.

Anna had so much anger and animosity, like a crazy amount of it (which is understandable from what she's been through), and with that being said I felt she just released a lot of that anger and resentment too easily without addressing the actual factors that ignited it. I mean she had some serious traumatic experiences from a young age and she's been alone for a long time.

It also bugged me that we never see Robert's parents since they were kind of a huge factor with how the past played out and there was no mention of them at Eric and Kats big day. I felt that there was some unneeded fluff that could have been removed as well.

Overall, this book was entertaining and easy to read. It had some great humor that will have you laughing out loud. It's also an emotional roller coaster that will make your head spin. And the cover is dead on. Plus you get more Cortell brothers, and you can't go wrong with that. I am looking forward to the next book!

This is the second book in Logomarsino’s Cortell Brothers series. It can be read as a standalone but since a lot of the story refers back to the previous book about his older brother Eric and his now fiancée Kat, and Anna the female lead in that book has a significant presence as a secondary character, I suggest you read that one first. If you have a box or two of Kleenex handy that is because Regular Maintenance is a real tear jerker.
The first couple of reviews for this book I read on Goodreads weren’t very positive. Which is pretty unusual since most Goodreads reviewers regularly assign the books they’ve reviewed 5 stars. Robert Cortell the male lead in this story was the object of their displeasure. I can definitely understand why. Robert is far from innocent. In fact for a lot of this book he acts like a dick. But I don’t believe he is worthy of so much scorn. Robert and Anna were high school lovers. As graduation neared Anna got pregnant and was sent away to California to live with her religious and judgmental aunt and uncle to have her baby and give it up for adoption. Both Robert his parents and her alcoholic mother thought this was the best thing for her/them to do. So did Anna but she really wasn’t given a choice. Robert went off to college. No one other than them and their parents are aware of what happened. A year later after having the baby and giving it up as planned, Anna returned home to bury her mother who drank herself into an early grave. She had no contact with Robert from the time he left for college in Chicago an hour away from their small northern Indiana town. Not while she was pregnant and not after she returned home. Robert’s only defense is he was a stupid seventeen-year-old boy when it happened and he felt so guilty about it he thought Anna hated him and didn’t want any contact from him. Robert went on to graduate law school and become a highly successful divorce attorney. Robert has never really forgiven himself for his part in what happened to Anna (and he doesn’t know the half of it) and he’s never really stopped loving her. He treads a very fine line between what is moral and ethical and what is not in his profession. He has meaningless hook-ups with women who are only out to land a wealthy lawyer for a husband. He loathes himself for it but accepts it as who he is because obviously the way he treated Anna has shown him he’s not a good person. It has become a self-fulling prophecy because Robert has become a materialistic ass who seeks validation in his nice apartment, expensive sports car and expensive clothes. He even wears his expensive suits on his trips home where they are completely out of place to show everyone how successful he’s become.
Although having excellent grades in high school, because of her financial problems Anna never got to go to college. In the dozen years since she returned to her hometown to bury her mother she has worked in a dead end job at the town’s gas station barely earning enough to get bye living in the dilapidated trailer she grew up in. In the previous book when Eric Cortell needs to hire an office manager for his growing construction business, Robert insists he hire Anna even though she has no experience for the job. Its his way of helping to ease his conscience. Anna proves more than capable for the job. She also shows a fiery, quick temper she didn’t have back when she was seventeen. A hard life has definitely harden Anna. Working for Robert’s brother has caused them to come in to occasional contact and that contact has turned the little flame Robert has been carrying for Anna into a bonfire. When a rival shows up for Anna’s affections Robert can no longer sit idly on the sidelines. He wants Anna to be his again. The problem is Anna as much as she deep down still loves Robert, she’s also carrying around a load of anger for how he failed to support her during their final weeks together and then ghosted her for the next thirteen years. Robert convinces Anna to give him one last shot to prove they can make things work between them. But it’s obvious from the start that Robert is even more clueless in giving his woman what she needs than Eric was when it came to Kat. Anna doesn’t believe she fits in Robert’s upscale life and she doesn’t trust that he won’t abandon her again. Robert only reinforces that belief when he tries to impress her by giving her fancy dresses and taking her to an expensive restaurant. Robert thrives on the hustle and bustle and noise of living in Chicago but all Anna wants is a quiet small town life. Anna is still the same girl who likes her jeans and tee shirts. Her idea of a nice evening is staying at home eating take-out pizza and watching a movie. On one hand I feel sorry for Robert because he thinks he’s showing Anna the life he believes she dreamed of and is going down in flames, but on the other hand it feels like he’s getting exactly what he deserves because despite his claim of wanting to take the time to get to know her, he hasn’t asked her what she wants. Despite multiple opportunities and Anna spelling it out for him, telling him she doesn’t like living in Chicago, the crowds, the noise, that she loves her small town and her job, Robert refuses to get it mostly because he refuses to consider the idea of abandoning his current life as he expects her to do. After meeting Robert’s boss Anna asks Robert why he doesn’t start his own law firm since Mosely his boss is a complete manipulative, greedy ass, he shrugs off her advice because he’s too stupid to see how unhappy he is both working for Mosely and as a divorce lawyer. In fact men being idiots is pretty much the theme of this book. When Robert goes to his brothers for advice each time he upsets Anna they come up with completely asinine ridiculous plans. Robert can’t see the forest for the trees in regard to what will make Anna or himself happy.
Here’s something that made no sense to me. Anna says if she is forced to leave the dumpy trailer she’s living in and pay rent she’ll have to deplete the savings she’s been building to buy her own house. Why? Eric is supposedly paying her well. But not well enough to cover her monthly living expenses if it includes rent without digging into her savings? Not enough to pay her bills and put a little bit aside? How did she think she was going to afford a mortgage with the minimum down payment she was trying to save for if she can’t afford rent?
It really doesn’t take Nostradamus to see the issue that will finally drive the couple apart or how the issue will be resolved. But despite all of my issues with this story, being a romantic at heart (that’s why I read contemporary romances after all) the final chapters were so good as these two star crossed lovers finally find their way back to each other I’m going to give this book 3.5 stars.

Collateral Damage is the perfect follow up to Maintenance Required. I am absolutely loving The Cortell Brothers series!

Robert Cortell and Anna Richards have a long history filled with love and heartache. And like any relationship when things go bad the bad memories outway the happy every time. After seventeen years everything that happen still haunts Anna everyday. While Robert hides his pain behind fancy suits and a different woman every week it's still there.

This second chance romance is everything a second chance romance should be. Lagomarsino made me feel everything. Robert and Anna's story was the a rollercoaster ride I wasn't expecting but I loved everything minute of. While their past haunted their present their relationship was painful to watch. I waited for the shoe to drop at every turn and many times it did. When one of them can't let go of the past their relationship can never move forward. It felt like one step forward ten steps back at every turn. While I understand Anna's hang ups at some point she has to understand she wasn't the only person it happened to. While their choices and decisions made affect them both in different ways it was also their own decisions that allowed it. Robert decided to make something of himself and Anna decided to stay in their hometown.

While Collateral Damage is an emotional ride it's also full of laugh out loud moments. The Cortell brothers always seem to bring the laughs. I love that Lagomarsino gives us a glimpse at how Eric and Kat's relationship has grown.

Giulia Lagomarsino has delivered another 5 star read. She gave us everything I expect from her and a second chance romance. I love these characters and Anna was a great addition to this series. I cannot wait to see what she gives us in the next book.

Fun, sexy mexy, plenty of action and yes at times tears.

This is by far the best series and the offspring series I have read this year.

The complex threads that Giulia weaves her stories, and her characters keeps you coming back for more. You will be riveted to the pages and find that hours have passed by the time you manage to pull yourself away.

You will laugh your arse off when you are not sweating through the action.

Anna's determined her boss's brother will not be allowed back in her life. He was her first (only) love and broke her heart into a million pieces years ago. Now suddenly he waltzes back into town in his fancy suits, expensive car, and wants a second chance?!? Not on her life, and she lets him know. MANY, MANY times. But he's adamant, and her heart just may be softening...

OK, first, the good things: Anna. She's strong, sweet, and not afraid to stand up for herself and let Robert know he needs to work his ass off if he wants her back. The secondary characters such as Carter, who I hope will get his own story, and Robert's brother, Eric. The story itself. It's entertaining and Anna made me laugh more than once when she bossed Eric around.

Now the bad things: Robert. My God but the man was a douche! He had no qualms looking down at the people he left behind. Had no qualms looking down on where Anna was living. I mean come on...who is so snooty with a woman he wants a second chance with?! Dumbass. She told him more than once she wanted him gone but he never listened. I know he had to be persistent or there'd be no second chance, but still, the way he conducted himself irritated me and made me take off a half star.

This is a second chance romance that is the 2nd book in the series and will give you a LOT OF DIFFERENT EMOTIONS! I adored Anna, but it took me a lot longer to warm up to Robert. He is not a bad guy, just not exactly my kind of guy, but it is always easy to judge people when you are not in their shoes.

All in all this was a good second chance romance and shows exactly how much goes into trying to get that HEA with your person. It will have you laughing, want to throw something, and swooning at other parts- basically just what you look for in your next romance! ;) I give it 4 outta 5 stars and am SO EXCITED to see what comes next in this series!

PS: Thank you to Guilia Lagomarsino and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

As teenagers Anna fell in love with Robert and they were planning a future together until life threw them a curve ball that sent them in different directions. More than a decade later she is content with her life and with her job working for his brother however she isn’t about to let him into her life a second time.

Robert has achieved the professional and financial success he always dreamed of but along the way he lost the only woman he ever loved. He wants a second chance but first they will not only need to overcome the past but their very different visions of the future as well.

Whether you love them or hate them these characters will definitely make you feel and their journey is filled with humor and emotion.

Holy crap!

Anna was in love with Robert. Robert was in !love with Anna. Life as perfect, except it's not.

Robert left town went to school. Anna stated behind.
Dreams shattered. Love lost and Anna hardened.

Now she threw donuts at Eric and coffee cups, lol. But could they both figure out their way back? Back to living one another, trusting each other and the love neither of them forgot, or was it too late?

Oh, and don't forget the holy carp cliff hanger at the end. I feel a sick day coming on from work tomorrow to keep reading!!

A story of second chance romance with a lot of hurt to overcome.

Anna has just been making it by on her salary, but she has been saving a little to put aside for her dream home. She’s never had a lot in her life and when she was sent away at the age of 17 to live with her aunt and uncle, she didn’t think she’d ever return to her hometown, but circumstances and fate had other plans for her.

Robert has a great job, money, prestige, and no one to share it with. He thinks that money and prestige is all he needs to succeed in life and be happy, but after being in contact with the only woman he has ever loved and realizing that his life is not as happy or full as he wants, he has a way to go to get the love of his life. He needs to change the way he thinks, for one thing.

At first, I wanted to slap Robert and tell him to wake up and smarten up, but then his brothers were there to do that for him. The Cortell brothers have no problem calling each other out on their bull, nor do they have a problem getting into physical fights amongst each other when angry, but they have an unbreakable bond and a true family loyalty to each other. Robert is the rich brother, always wearing expensive suits and shoes, drives an expensive car, and lives in Chicago in a penthouse apartment. He doesn’t seem to remember where he came from or that his family has no problem telling him to check his attitude on some issues. Neither Anna nor Robert are the same people they were in high school, but can their changes work together, or can their lives work together so they can have a second chance at the love they once shared?

I love this series and the characters keep me laughing at their interactions and their shenanigans. These brothers are always ready to back each other up and they are fun to read. I love the parade scene! I love this story and cannot wait for more of the Cortell Brother Series to come. I give this story a 5-star review.

This is the second book in The Cortell Brothers series and it is Anna and Robert’s story. It is one emotional storyline that chronicles the lives of these two characters from their youth through adulthood and the trials and tribulations they had to face.
“I’ll always have time for you. There’s nothing that could keep me from you.”
When Robert and Anna were teenagers, they were in love and thought that they were each other’s forever but they came from two different worlds. Where Robert came from a family that loved him and his siblings, Anna grew up with an alcoholic mother and absentee father. The one person in Anna’s corner was Robert. Like all young teens, the time comes when they leave the nest and head off to college but that was not in the cards for Anna. Fast forward thirteen years and Robert and Anna reconnect but the venom that Anna harbors towards him is intense. Is it possible for Anna and Robert to work out their differences and find what they both lost? With each new book that I read by Ms. Lagomarsino, I find myself pulled deeper and deeper into her tales. Woven with such dexterity and character depth, I am hard-pressed to stop until the last word is read. Anna is a woman, who in spite of her upbringing, has overcome so much and is an example of what can be done when one puts one’s mind to something. Robert is a man who regains his strength when he comes to terms and learns what is really important in life. This is one moving read from start to finish filled with drama, steam and passion that will have any reader feeling the gamut of emotions. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series, some of which I cannot wait to read. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.

Every time I read a book by Giulia Lagomarsino, I fall more in love with her writing. This woman goes beyond what could be a typical romance story. She spices it up with twists and turns, dialogue that has you laughing until you're crying, and a deft hand with scenes that enable you to visualize the almost slapstick quality of her stories. Although there is usually a serious undercurrent, the characters she brings in keep things anything but serious. Such was the case with the Reed Security series and now with the Cortell brothers.

Robert Cortell made a mistake he was a kid, and thirteen years later, he will try to make it right. He's not the boy he was, and Anna is definitely not the girl, and oh, by the way, she's furious too. And she likes to throw things when she's mad. So begins the story as Robert really has to figure out who he is and what he wants in life. Anna has to let go of bitterness and resentment. They both have to learn to trust each other all over again. It's a rocky journey for them both.

Add to that rocky journey the rest of the Cortell brothers, some Reed Security guys and their wives, a town that just loves being involved in the Cortell brothers' lives, and Robert's jerk of a boss. All of these elements make for some scenes that have you crying and reaching for more kleenex or laughing so hard your family wonders what's wrong with you. In the end, you love this family, and you are so ready for more Cortell brothers. However, you need to read Eric and Kat's story in Maintenace Required so you will get the real flavor for Anna before this novel. Enjoy my friends enjoy!

Collateral Damage is the second book in the Cortell Brothers Series. I received a free Advanced copy that I volunteered to review. I knew there were secrets and lies wrapped up in Anna and Roberts story. Some I expected...some I did not. It was hard reading about two people who have loved each other for 14 yrs...walk away from each other...but would staying together and being unhappy be the better choice? Anna is a small town woman who isn’t into fancy dresses or extravagant gifts. She loves her job as an office manager and being a part of a little town where everyone knows your name. Robert is a big time, big city attorney who strives for everything money can buy. Or at least it seems so with his large overly expensive penthouse, his fancy sports car and his custom made Armani suits. That’s just how things are now...he’s worked hard for this life and he’s not apologizing for it. He wants to give Anna everything this life has to offer. He wants to make up for everything that occurred years ago, problem is Anna doesn’t want any of it. She just wants her life to be simple with those she cares about who care about her. Nothing fancy and nothing over the top...just her normal life in her hometown. His life is in the city...hers in the country...which is their biggest obstacle now. Can they figure it out and compromise or will they lose each other for good?
I was enthralled in every word on the page. I couldn’t put the book down, I read it within 24hrs...just so I could find out what happened next. The Cortell Brothers had me rolling with laughter while the relationship between Anna and Robert had me swooning, crying. Angry and all riled. Wonderful characters, intriguing story and passionate loving! Grab your copy on Dec 7!

Oh this is a second chance romance that will make your head hurt and spin! These two had a sweet high school love until life took a turn on them. Fast forward 13 years, Robert is a divorce lawyer for the top firm in Chicago. He has the life he always wanted but there's something missing..Anna. He hasn't lost that lovin feeling for her and he's determined to get her back in his life again. This is like a train wreck. Anna, is down home and loves living in a small town. She isn't into the fancy clothes, makeup or being around people who enjoy all that. She makes it very clear in this book so many times because Robert doesn't get it. He's one of these guys who's smart in books but pretty dumb in figuring out real life. His brothers make fun of him so many times for this. I love Anna in this book cause she was strong in convictions and voiced her opinions very openly whenever she felt things going south or if she was put in a position she didn't like. Robert.. what can I say.. I applaud him for getting what he wants in life but it took him forever to realize what was truly important in life and where he needed to be. This book was good and I loved all the angst in this book but man do you ever just want to reach into a book and smack a character? This book will make you want to do this! I loved how in these books you can get the feeling of the town and how despite not wanting it, they rally around each other and truly care even a bit much at times lol.

Collateral Damage was a story that I had a hard time trying to come up with this review. I want everyone to know that I'm in love with Giulia Lagomarsino's stories & I really crave them on an everyday basis, but I didn't love Robert as he came off very badly to be honest. He & Anna fell in love as teenagers but he left her in a really bad place when he left for college & never looked back. I wanted to hurt him so badly that I had to stop myself from breaking things. Anna struggled for years & frankly, is still struggling in some instances but he only looked down on her when seeing her for the first time in 13 years. He had gone all the way materialistic, and he couldn't say the right things to save his life, so I wouldn't have minded if she ended up with someone else. Here's the deal though, this author is so brilliant that even when I'm in a rage, I still can't put her books down to save my life. I'm still in mourning for the Reed Security series, but was given some bonus content when a couple of them showed up. Oh, and there's those whole hysterically funny situations that kept me laughing hard throughout. I wouldn't give this author up for anything, and while I had some negative feelings for the hero, that doesn't mean you will, so decide for yourselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Hmm where to start, I’m not normally a reader of second chance romances, especially the type were the man goes off and “makes something “ of himself, as I feel that type of dissatisfaction with what he has tends to lead to a bit of an a&@e of a character, Robert was no different. I truly wanted to smack him, his attitude..... urgh, especially toward Anna at times. (*insert eye roll*)

Anyway, here we have a, (while annoying) book in which you will sit, and become sucked in, so totally you won’t be done until the last page. Which for a book by Giulia Lagomarsino is totally the norm.
We have the second chance couple Anna and Robert who have come together after thirteen years apart.
Robert realising what he’s lost makes it his mission to rekindle their romance, perhaps not in the best ways, but that’s what makes the book so good, you may dislike the male lead, but the story has you fully invested. And after the sobbing I did when reading book one this is was a wonderful tale to follow.

Naturally this wouldn’t be a complete book without the humour we’ve come to expect from the author, as well as a few familiar faces from Reed.
So all in all I highly recommend this read.... maybe while your alone, so people don’t hear you ranting at a make believe character lol

They were childhood sweethearts - Then it all went wrong - 13 years later they meet again. Was their love really forever or were they never really meant to be.

Collateral Damage is the second book in the Cortell Brothers series. This time we follow the story of Robert the high flying Divorce lawyer in the city, and Anna who we met in the last book as his brother Eric's new office manager.

They were childhood sweethearts who were inseparable but then something went wrong, Anna moved away and Robert went off to study law. 13 years later their paths have crossed again. Robert is desperate to get Anna back but can he go about it the right way.

Anna wants to hate Robert but can she, even after what he did all those years ago. Are they the same people or are they so different now that their previous relationship is beyond repair?

As usual Guilia will keep you guessing right the way up to the end. A lovely small town romance story that will have you laughing and crying at times but a beautiful read as always. Also for all those Reed Security fans you will be pleased to know we get to see a couple of the guys in this book and they are hilarious as always.

This is the second book in the Cortell Brothers series and believe me when I say it is heart gripping. Giulia grabs your attention right from the beginning with this second chances romance.

Anna and Robert were from different sides of the tracks but that didn't stop their love for each other. They were high school sweethearts but that didn't last when Robert left and Anna went to live with her aunt.

Anna lived with an alcoholic mother that died because of it. She had no family that helped her when she came back home. She barely had anything but she had the trailer her mother had and a job with Robert's brother.

Robert was a big wig lawyer in the city. He came back home to see how brothers when he bumps into Anna and all the old feeling surfaced. He does everything to try to get her back but there is too much painful history.

What happens when they both act on their feelings? They both need help from eachother but will they help one another? Can Anna ever forgive Robert for what he did?

Giulia has a way with words that has you not able to put her books down. She is an amazing writer and with each book I read they just keep getting better and better. You cannot honoring with adding this book to your TBR list.

I’m starting to think these Cortell brothers are brain damaged. They for sure are idiots and don’t make smart decisions when it comes to women. They may be hot and have business sense but they really fell short when it came to some brain cells about women.

That Anna has these men running scared has me cracking up. She needs to teach classes on how to achieve that. Robert obviously has no common sense or else he would learn from his brother and make sure to keep her happy.

Once we delve into Anna and Robert’s history I was so pissed for Anna. I was angry at the way Robert and every one made all the decisions for her. She was just discarded and forgotten. I understand now why Anna comes off as abrasive and hard. I would be the same way.

Robert has lots of groveling to do once he figures out just how much he has screwed up his relationship with Anna. Of course anything with the Cortell brothers isn’t easy and the town has to stick their nose which brings its own drama and entertainment.

Guilia has a wonderful talent in her writing that is unique. I have no idea how she comes up with the scenarios that she does but they are amazing!

This is the second book in the Cortell brothers. You could probably read it as a standalone but there would be spoilers from book 1 if you did. This is an angsty second chance romance. We have Anna, brought up by an alcoholic mother, looking for a way out of her small town with her best friend and the love of her life, Robert Cortell. But plans—and people—change, and Robert & Anna haven’t seen each other for 13 years. I like that Anna has made peace with most of her life. She has plans to settle in her familiar town, and has a job she loves and is good at-managing Robert's brother's business. But Robert-I’m really not sure why Anna loved him the second time. He had their future mapped out, based on her needs & wants that were over a decade old. He took a long time getting to know her, and his notion of “helping” Anna was unfortunately a bit hit and miss (he lost me when he sent her home in the cab, by herself, to be alone). I didn’t think he was good enough, or appreciated Anna enough. And yet, I loved The Grand Gesture. I'm looking forward to seeing how they fare in the series.

I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.

I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.

So book one basically ripped my soul out and I ugly cried, but I'm happy to say this book did NOT do that. I don't think I could handle that again.

Robert and Anna are very intruding characters. I knew something terrible had to happen because there was no way Anna was that upset with Robert over something silly. And I was right, unfortunately.

Robert is something else. I actually didn't really like him all that much. He was so focused on money and rich items that he lost sense about anything else in his life. He said some pretty terrible things and really felt confused when people got upset at him because he didn't realize what he sounded like. Thankfully he redeemed himself by the end, but I know I wouldn't be able to tolerate him if I were Anna.

The parade scene was definitely my favorite and I was laughing so hard! Also that ending was so jaw dropping! I cannot wait to see what happens during that storyline!

Robert & Anna

Belly-ache laughing, tears, and surprises galore.

Robert and Anna were highschool sweethearts until...it takes a while in the book to find out why they broke up. Now thirteen years later they have another chance. They haven't forgotten their friendship and young love in all the years between but nor has she forgotten the pain.

Robert is on the edge of being a full Senior Partner in the most prestigious law firm in the city. Anna is Office Manager for his brother's construction firm in the town they all grew up in. It's what he's been fighting for and what she has always wanted--a good job she loves. How are they to make it together when they are so far apart?

Certainly not if they take their brothers' advice. For those fans who have read either of the previous series and those who haven't read any but this one, I can guarantee you will laugh till it hurts even when it is so emotional at the same time.

It is steamy, funny, has amazing characters, and a touching storyline. Don't miss it.

Does he really deserve a second chance

Collateral Damage is the second book in The Cortell Brothers series and is the story of Robert and Anna. They have an interesting relationship for a number of reasons including when they were younger. I am not sure exactly how I feel about Robert as at times I wanted to clock him upside his head. But other times I felt sorry for him and my heart sort of split a bit. I really felt for Anna as she was a woman who had to grow up really early. Even though she is survived and is trying to build a good like for herself the dreams she had for herself has fallen to the wayside. But at the same time I wanted to shake her a few times and get her to make a decision about what she wanted when the opportunity was there fore the taking.
The book is well written, emotional, funny, and passionate story. Overall I did enjoy the book and can't wait to read the next in the series.

This is book two in The Cortell Brother series, this is Robert's story. When you are young, you dream.of what you want to be when you grow up and start to plan ways to achieve that dream. If you happen to find your soulmate, you alter those plans to accommodate both sets of dreams. Life can be cruel, decisions made can destroy everything. When you grow up, can you forgive and forget? Robert and Anna's story shattered my heart. The bumps in their road to happiness was full of huge a$$ potholes! This story is nothing short of an amazing read! I had shed tears of frustration and heartbreak, I had moments where I laughed out loud and moments where I could not believe the comments that were said. There is no doubt that I have fallen in love with these characters and their small town bubble of a world. A must read, enjoy!

After the emotional mess I was in after reading maintenance required i think I put to much pressure on this one to be just as amazing. I enjoyed the story and I love the dynamic of the Cortell family. They had me in stitches and I was gutted we didn't see more of them in this one. I loved the whole 2nd chance romance between Anna and Robert and my heart broke for Anna at times with what she had gone through. I personally just didn't like either of our main couple. I get Anna had been through a hell of a lot but i just found her too rude and harsh and Robert seemed as if money was the be all and end all. There was a hell of alot going on in this story as well which at times felt a bit overwhelming. This however did not put me off the book. I absolutely loved the ending with the grand gesture I was in stitches with a big goofy grin on my face and then the end of the story left me with my mouth hanging open! What an ending! I can't wait for the next book and will definitely be reading more by Giulia Lagomarsino

The story has laughs, pain, secrets, second chances, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below, I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Maintenance Required (The Cortell Brothers #1)

This is Anna and Robert’s story. These two were high school sweethearts that is until one discussion sent them in different directions. Years later they still love each other but the pain from the past is still there. They are different people who want different things can they try again? He lives in the city and she lives in the country can they have something good or will the differences keep them apart? What happens when they both need each other for different things will it pull them closer or will his job get in the eay of a future that they could have had?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. But all and all it was a great story.

I highly recommend this book.

Anna came from a poor family with an alcoholic mother, Robert didn’t care, they were best friends and loved each other. They made plans while they were in high school for a life together. Then things changed, Robert left for college and pursued his career as a lawyer. He never came back from the city and now 13 years later they are thrown back together. A really good storyline that has all the feels from past pain and heartbreak, insecurities, angst, drama, guilt, forgiveness, passion and a deep seeded love that never really went away. I loved Anna’s determination to do things on her own because she had to be strong and independent. I thought Robert was an arrogant jerk at times and insensitive until he finally found out what Anna’s life was like and what she went through on her own. He was a slow learner but truly hadn’t stopped loving her. Good read!
