As Fortuna and her sisters struggle to find the final witch bottle, to break the curse and free Anna, she receives a most unexpected visitor. Beulah Conroe, one of the Grace Gang at Holy Grove Church, despite her fear and loathing of "the Delphi hussy", demands that Fortuna visit Karen at the prison so that she will continue to fund the church. Beulah seems to believe that Karen is a good and deeply pious woman who has spawned a devil in Fortuna. When the Reverend Kane won't ask, for fear of upsetting Martin or his family, Beulah, in desperation to keep the church funded and open to protect the town, makes it clear that Fortuna's visit has to be made.
While Fortuna is stunned, and trying to fathom out why her mother would be funding the entire church, Pepper runs in with news hot of the press.. Councillor Conrad Noble has been shot dead and in the dead man's hand? The last witch bottle. Now the memory modified Chief Clutterbuck has locked it away as evidence in the ultra secure evidence room and refuses to allow anyone to touch it until the crime is solved. While Clutterbuck isn't as suspicious of Fortuna as he was before, the memory modification done by Karen means he can't remember why his gut says he can trust Fortuna and something else seems to be wrong because he can't, or maybe won't, allow them to look at the bottle.. it's all just more issues for Fortuna to fix before she can come full circle.
Will Fortuna be able to unravel the mystery behind Karen's funding of the church? Solve the murder of Conrad Noble? So she can get the last bottle to break the curse? And finally will she be able to rescue Anna?
The Mystic End series has provided some very enjoyable reading and this finale is no different. The various story lines are all bought together and several issues are explained and resolved, I won't spoil it for you by going in to what happens, but I will say that there is a lot of people getting what they deserve, sometimes in very unexpected ways. I also enjoyed that there are moments of pure humour, such as when the church members try to kill a vampire by throwing Costco minced garlic at him. There are some great characters in this series and they all contribute to an original and interesting story. The only reason I have given this four stars rather than five, is that I definitely think that books should stand alone, even when they are part of a series, but there is a lot of this book that just wouldn't make sense unless at least some of the preceding books have been read. If you are the sort of reader who doesn't mind books being part of a serial, rather than a series, then you can read the rating as five stars. I have the privilege to be part of the author's advance reader team, and so received a complimentary copy of the book, however this review has been written voluntarily and purely from my own impressions.
And so the end of our adventures with the Mystic of Mystic's End....Well not without one final murder and adventure! All the secrets are out now, (well there is just that one :p but ya know, when the times right) With Karen in jail, the greyhound's being found new home, everyone happy in their relationships (it's like that scene set the end of the film Grease, at the funfair "we go together like like shoop de doop" there is just one last Witch Bottle to find and open and all the persecuted women from through the years will be released. But it's not going to be that easy. This is such a good finale yes ok there is no singing but every loose end is tied, every story is good and every dog has its day, sorry every witch has her way! Best read in order but best read!!
There is a lot in this story with multiple story arcs to keep you on your toes. There are many characters including the protagonist, her two sisters, their boyfriends, her best friend, the sheriff, multiple ghosts, and the list goes on. The large cast all have a roll to play and they are brought together before the story ends.
The story combines a murder mystery, family issues, and an attempt to free a lot of captive souls. It is well told and it’s easy to accept the world view and go with the story. There are some interesting twists that keep you from knowing the end.
Exciting Series Ending This is an exciting end to a wonderful series. This has all of the important characters in it. And they all get a decent conclusion. There are a couple of parts that had me laughing to tears. I couldn't have come up with a better ending, even if I had a year to plan it. It also gives us a glimpse into the next series. I am excited to start the next one but am going to relish this series for a bit. I received this ARC for free from the author and this is my honest review.
I hate that this is the end! There are still some more questions I want answered! Such an incredible ending to the series, though. I love how things turned out. Especially how things turned out for that horrible church and Fortuna, Angie, and Delida’s mom! Talk about karma! Actually, things weren’t too bad for the church people, but they were still embarrassed with what they found out, so I enjoyed that! I really hope for a spin-off series.
This book is an amazing finale to an amazing series. I am so sad to see it end. There is murder, mystery, love, suspense. Every emotion in this book. I love learning more about Clutterbuck, and how all of the relationships evolved. I hope that we will see more of these characters in other books, and I love them too much to have them be gone. If you are looking for a great series that really holds your attention and love the supernatural, this series will be exactly what you need!!
I've enjoyed the while series but this book, for the final of the series was a bit of a key down. Everything ends up being resolved but the baddies turn out not to be so, the main baddie ends up with a happy life, everyone accepts.ghosts etc, without batting an eyelid and then the main characters all decide to leave town, even though they have successful businesses. The end. Most peculiar.
Great series. I was sorry to see it wrap up but the conclusion was satisfactory. The plot flowed well and it was easy to read. I read through the first seven books fast and had to wait for the 8th. By the time I got to the last book, I really had to refresh my memory as so many new characters and relationships occurred in book 7, it took a bit to follow along the storyline.
Having read all the 8 books in the Mystic's End Mysteries I recommend the whole series be read in order. Each book is a complete story and every one is an excellent read. I am not giving a synopsis as you can read that for yourselves when you purchase the books. You will not be disappointed. I loved each one and look forward to a continuation in the future.
I'm so sorry to see this series end, but what a great way to go out! There is so much going on in this book that it was nearly impossible to put down. Secrets revealed and witch bottles opened and of course a body. No spoilers, you're just going to have to read it for yourself!
The culmination of the series. Another murder, but for reasons no one can fathom and he had the last Witches bottle in his hands when he died. But where is it now? The truth comes out about the "baby left on the Court House steps and it's a doozy! Don't miss the last inthe series!
Love, love love it!!! What a wonderful wrapup to this saga! I have no words except that I want to read it again and just soak it up!!! Leanne Leeds, your imagination is priceless!!! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next! Doing the happy dance!
There is a lot going on with Fortuna and the others in this book. You will not want to stop reading this final book in series. I don't want to go into details as not to give story away. You will enjoy this book but also sad because it is the last one. I recommend reading this book/ series.
A murder, a missing witch bottle, and the truth about Reverend Kane's church. Don't forget the mother from hell! The three sisters have their work cut out for them thanks to good old mom.
Loved this series and hope there may be one more in the future to give us a glimpse of how they have moved on. Fun, quirky, mystery, laughter...all rolled into 8 books. Sad it's over
I just finished the 8th and last book in this series. I won’t give anything away but if you enjoy ghosts, witches, vampires, etc. you will love this series. It has characters you love and root for and some you’d like to knock up along side if the head with a 2x4.
I enjoyed this final book of the series. I was pleased with what happened to Karen White. The solution for Martin's Mom, Anna, was unexpected. It was a fitting end to the series.
