Win Hadley was the star of a series of six sports novels that were published in 1960. Win excelled in baseball in the first volume, followed by football, basketball, tennis in this fourth volume, hockey, and track in the final one. His better-known spiritual cousins, Chip Hilton and Bronc Burnett, who were published by Grosset & Dunlap, only played the big three sports, so it was interesting to see three other sports represented. Win is a high school student who lives with his widowed mother and older brother in Dixboro. He's the natural leader of a large number of friends, and always demonstrates the right attitudes of dedication and fair play despite the numerous obstacles that arise in his path. In this tennis story there's not as much demonstration of teamwork as there is of friendship and support. They do devote a few chapters to yachting and even croquet, as well. It's a wholesome if dated tale of perseverance and optimism.
