"...Like hell I'd let you...Die alone just like that!
I have caught you now finally, Liam...Let's both survive. Live on both you and I."

Either animated or in manga form this scene is breathtaking.

(The culmination of a great arc and the end of the anime.)

"I won't let you die alone!"

I am so emotional right now. . .

This is one of my favourite Volumes of this series. My heart broke and smiled at the same time.

How is the story going to continue? What is going to happen?

I need my hands on Volume 15 - now!

At this point, I don’t see a non-homosexual explanation to what Sherlock and William did in this volume. They’re canon and you can’t tell me otherwise.

So, we already know William wanted to die in order for his big plan to work and all his friends and brother were against it. But who would have thought Sherlock too didn’t want to get him killed.

He literally says he felt the connection between them from the moment they met and he tried to save him, even tenderly embraced him when the bridge they were in broke itself. So, what is this? Are they faking their death? Did they choose to die together? Either whay it’s gay and I love it, lol. Can’t wait to read the next one.

THIS!!!

I'm going to be so incoherent in this review, because this volume messes me up so bad, but in a very good way.

First of all, Sherliam is real. I know that men should be allowed to have a healthy platonic relationship, but your honor, these two are so gay for each other. There's simply no straight explanation for them.

Secondly, this is how a climax of a story is done! The build-up is perfect. The story lays out all the pieces, especially the values and emotional baggage each character carries, and so their decisions and dialogues all make sense. I don't know how to describe how it makes me feel. It's just so good.

The only thing I may have to criticize this a bit is I think the last plot is way too optimistic and simplistic, although it's in line with William's original idea . However, at this point, the emotional stake of the protagonists are so high that I couldn't care less about the politics plot anymore, so I don't mind it that much.

As the last pieces of the plan fall into place, Sherlock and Moriarty are ready to play their roles in the story. But Sherlock wants to tweak that ending a little bit and Moriarty has no intention of letting that happen. Still, historically speaking it all worked out for the best, right?

I guess if they moved around the Bond era they can move the fire of London a bit as well. And dispense with Reichenbach Falls entirely. This storyline wraps up the driving force of the series thus far, although apparently it’s not the actual ending, which is an interesting trick.

It’s easy to laugh off the grand plan of Moriarty, which ends up boiling down to ‘bucket brigade ends class struggle’ amidst the raging fires and it assumes that mob mentality goes in favour of good as easily as bad. It’s not the worst sentiment, but it’s also less elaborate than it seems.

Additionally, it’s an odd flex to have the Queen ultimately be a force for good, but living in a former colony has probably just made me more jaded about that than I am in general.

Which is all to say - who cares? It gets the job done and isn’t impossible, just highly implausible, and they already have James Bond(e), so whatever. The real reason we’re here is to see how many slashfics the Holmes/Moriarty showdown can inspire.

I absolutely love that they included a historical illustration from the actual Final Problem story by Conan Doyle here, featuring the pairing locked in mortal combat, because it contrasts hysterically with the much more… friendly… embrace in a plummet from a bridge here.

Make no mistake, if you want to read this whole denouement as some real bromance, minus the b, you won’t have far to walk. Holmes and Moriarty are dancing around one another for chunks of this volume, the former trying to make sure the latter sees all the good he’s done for the country and such.

It’s all pretty fun, honestly; the vibe between the two has been great for a while and I think this gives the story a welcome shot in the arm for such a climactic arc. I was happy to pull for these two crazy kids as it all wound down.

Now, there’s more to come and that’s… fine… but it will be interesting to see how it manages that after the characters literally achieved their entire raison d’être in this extra long wrap-up volume.

No, it doesn’t hold together a jot if you think about it for five seconds after you’ve read it, but this isn’t the place to sweat such things. It’s time to kick back and enjoy the ride with lots of tension, just not narratively.

I think Moriarty achieves a general level of competence and I have enjoyed reading it to varying degrees. This one doesn’t really gel as a wholly formed plot, at least not without a lot of asterisks, but the perils of Holmes’ efforts and his chemistry with Moriarty make it a good time.

Bonus points for Watson mentioning how he’ll make the fictional (fictional-fictional, technically) version of Moriarty a villainous old man, as the story gamely tries to square its characters with the ones they’re based on. Utterly preposterous, but, again, fun.

3.5 stars - I used the word fun a lot here because this one is pretty dang good. It pays off a lot for the reader, it goes about as amusingly gay as you could expect, and it made for a good conclusion-yet-not to the series. Devoid of the Holmes/Moriarty bits it wouldn’t be worth have as much, mind you.

Moriarty vs Holmes.

IT'S SO PERFECT, EVERYTHING IS SOOOOOO PERFECT MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT.
