USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Pulkinen has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.
Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves red wine and chocolate, and in her free time, she likes to read, take pictures, and spend time with her family.
Santa Got Run Over By a Vampire is Book #3.5 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. As with the other books in the series, it is a superb and highly original Paranormal Romantic Comedy. It’s a such a fun addition to the series. I have read all Ms. Pulkinen’s books now and have loved them all. The series, and this book are a little less spicy and intense than some of her other work/s- having a definitely cuter, sweeter, fun, and more humorous perspective of the New Orleans paranormal world. As I said, this is a paranormal romantic comedy- with vampires, Santa, reindeer, Mrs. Claus, magic, politics, supernatural elements, and drama- with an enchanting and humorous storyline and all set in mystical and magical New Orleans. We met Jane back in Book #1 when she was involved in a daring selfie moment that went wrong- that then resulted in her being ‘turned’ by Ethan (her now husband) to save her ‘life’. Ten months have passed since then and Jane is thriving in her undead life. Finding love and getting married, and taking on a job she loves running the hottest Vampire club in New Orleans. So, things look pretty bright. But then her father announces he will be arriving for Christmas- and he has no idea that she’s married, let alone a Vampire. Fate intervenes and her perfect life becomes even more complicated when Jane accidently runs Santa over- and the only way to save him, and Christmas, is to make him a vampire. But things won’t be quite that simple- with only three days to ‘train’ Santa on vampire life and laws brings a few hiccups’ with it that threaten her immortality- a bit of chaos ensues with funny banter, antics, and quips- making for some hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud. Can’t wait to see what Ms. Pulkinen has in store for us next!
"Your wife has gotten herself into a preserved cucumber."
This was my first venture into the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This book obviously falls later in the series so there is definitely some context missing. While overall, there is nothing too spoilery, there is definitely an assumption that you have read the first few books to find out where the character's stories have become. In saying that, I don't feel like I missed out on too much important information that impacted on the overall experience of this particular book. This book was hilariously funny and quick and easy to read. I highly recommend of it you're looking for something super light that really doesn't delve too deep into plot. There is an incredible amount of Christmas puns which I personally found amazing and really imbued the Christmas vibe into the story.
"Every being has a weakness. Much like a stake to the heart can kill a vampire, it appears being run over by a sports car will be the end of this fae."
Santa Got Run Over By A Vampire is the fourth book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a quick, fun read filled with vampires and Christmas songs with alternate lyrics that will have you cracking up. Jane’s oops has her in quite a predicament when the responsibility to save Santa falls to her. And, to add to the holiday stress, her father is coming to town and she’s got a secret to tell him. If you’re feeling the holiday stress, grab some hot chocolate and take a break with this upbeat tale.
Unfortunately my least favourite book in this series (so far) I hoped Jane would be slightly less obnoxious now I've had her as a supporting character for the last two books, but I'm sad to report she's still so cringe it hurts. Every problem in this book was resolved way too fast. There were two major plotlines, one around Santa and one around her dad, and both of them were over in 5 chapters each. Sure, the story was kinda cute and funny, but I felt like it was over before I even started to care.
Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen is a paranormal romantic comedy. It is a delightful short read that is ironic, funny and whimsical and had me laughing out loud. New Orleans Nocturnes series is one of my favourites and Carrie makes everything seem believable. As usual the characters are wonderful, and the humour is to die for. Christmas will never be the same again.
This is a very entertaining and fun perspective on the vampire genre! The story is well done and actually makes me want to read the before and what comes after this paticular book. It seems this group of characters have continuous adventure and strife and that makes for very interesting reading and enjoyment.
This book was hilarious! Such a quick and fun read. Comedy gold.
This is my first time reading this author. I definitely want to read other books in this series. I just know they are going to be just as hilarious as this one.
This book had me laughing out loud from the first line. Poor Jane has run over santa 3 days before Christmas and now she has a choice of turning him in to a vampire and having to teach him the ways of the vampire’s or start a war. Well as you can guess she chooses changing him but now she has to tell Mrs Claus oh and her dad is coming and he doesn’t know anything
It never ceases to amaze me how cute this author’s books are! I literally read this one in one sitting. I love her writing style and her ability to completely round out the character’s personalities! These stories always have some little hint of a moral in them and once I start reading I just can’t put it down! I highly recommend this book and anything this author writes!
After reading the concept for this book, I was instantly intrigued. I loved how Carrie Pulkinen combined the Christmas story with a paranormal theme. This was a fun short story with an original twist that I could not put down!
This is a really cute story. I did not read the previous books in the series but I was able to enjoy this one anyway. I look forward to reading the next one in the series. Thanks for the opportunity.
Carrie Pulkinen is back again with another New Orleans Nocturnes book! How could that not be exciting?
The very FIRST thing you should notice about this book is that it’s listed as #4 when Finders Reapers previously held that slot. Do I think it’s a big deal? Not really, and you’ll soon understand why.
This book, if you’re reading in order of release, returns to focusing on Jane and Ethan. If you’re coming late to the party and are reading them in the order listed, you’re still with them. Jasmine and Asher aren’t in this book, and I did miss them, but it was nice to get back to Jane and Sophie too. And the stakes (no pun intended, but come on…) couldn’t get much higher than having her father come to visit for Christmas when he doesn’t know that she’s not only a vampire but married!
That is until Gaston finally lets her drive Genevive and she runs over Santa, and it appears he’s actually dying!
This book is a Christmas blast, complete with Jane-level shenanigans and attitude, Ethan brooding, and Gaston drinking drunk humans. What I loved in this book is seeing Gaston grow a little bit (who knew he’d be a pro at making eggnog – only the best holiday drink EVER!). Jane’s love of Ethan is clear too, seeing past how hot he is and getting to see how much she wants him to be happy, even if it takes a minute to get through to her sometimes. Poor Ethan really puts himself through the wringer on this one, and it just made me love him more.
I can’t say I was super surprised, because I don’t like super alpha males, but Jane’s father was a bit of a turn off for me, despite the fact that he made a big turnaround as one would hope a father would. I think he, Ethan, and Jane are in a good space now, but I can completely understand Ethan’s nerves!
Having read Finders Reapers before this, I do kind of wish there was a little more interaction between Jazz/Asher and this half of the series’ characters, but I also still understand that that simply might not happen. I also missed seeing Crim and Mike this time around too; it would’ve been nice if there had been a way to bring everyone together a little bit using the holiday as a reason they would all be in the same place.
Personally, I could have done with one or two fewer Christmas puns too, but, really, how often do you get a chance to do something like that? So it was still fun!
This installment of New Orleans Nocturnes is shorter than the others at 102, compared to the 166 – 194 of the others, but it was still a great read that I recommend picking up for yourself.
Jane Devereaux is finally getting her chance to drive Gaston’s baby around New Orleans and is relishing in this until she runs someone over, as she starts to panic and get Gaston to call for an ambulance, she learns that it isn’t just any old person she has run over and nearly killed, it is Santa, THE SANTA, he actually exists and not only that and now Jane has to make a choice, she has to turn him into a vampire, or destroy Christmas, not much of a choice really. After the deed is done and Santa has been turned, Jane and Gaston load Santa into his car and after some shock and amazement, she gets to ride Santa’s reindeer Blitzen home, this is something she will never forget.
The next day, she has to go and see the Magistrate of their coven and register her new fledgeling and start to deal with the consequences of her actions, this includes the explanation of why she had to sire him in the first place, but first she has to break the news to Santa that he is now a vampire and everything that goes with it, however, Santa seems a little off and won’t stop singing his versions of Christmas songs and asking constantly for sugary things to crave his thirst. After Santa’s registration they take Santa out for his first feed and to get his official license, but something is still off, this is where they all have to break the news to Mrs Claus, as well as this, she has the added bonus of her dad coming to visit for Christmas and she is going to have to break the news that she is a vampire, but more that that, is that she is also married and prepare herself to see her dad and face his reactions to her news! Jane only has three days to fix Santa and save Christmas, but can she do it in time, or at all?
This story is a christmas themed romp through New Orleans where mistakes are made and curveballs are thrown around like snowballs in a snowball fight and a read which will keep you reading until the end.
Are you ready for a laugh riot? Looking for something to tickle your funny bone? Want to escape into a world filled with fun characters and humor galore? Then you need to pick up this fantastic book by Carrie Pulkinen! Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire is the 4th installment in the New Orleans Nocturne book series and Ms. Pulkinen keeps the fabulousness going with this latest read. Now, mind you, this is a stand-alone book. But I’ve said it before, do yourself a HUGE favor and pick up this series. You’ll want to get to know all of these wonderful characters and their stories.
Now, this latest book is about Jane Devereux (from License to Bite) and her antics adjusting to her new life. Jane is adjusting to her life fabulously until a small encounter with Father Christmas. Now with only 3 days to teach Santa the ways of the Vampire and get him back to the North Pole in time, things are a bit tense. Oh! And did I forget to mention Jane’s dad, the governor of Texas is coming for a visit to see her? Talk about a stressful Christmas! Follow Jane, her hubs-hottie Ethan, and their nocturnal friend Gaston as they try to get through this holiday!
With witty banter, great chemistry between the main characters, and a fun-loving story, Ms. Pulkinen hits a trifecta with her latest book. I loved being able to see each of the characters again and learning what they’ve been up to in their lives. Add in the fun town of New Orleans and great sub-characters, you can’t help but fall in love with this book. If you’re looking for a feel-good holiday read (you know, like a Hallmark Christmas movie type story with tons of laughs), then pick this beauty up.
Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen - Review by Gail Guerrero
Four Stars
I was seriously laughing so hard while reading this story. I’ve never read a book so funny that I couldn’t put it down because I was laughing so hard. The author really knew what she was doing when she wrote the story about our main lead Jane. It almost seem like she just could not help saying whatever popped into her head. The Willy Wonka comment was hysterical you have to read that part because you will die laughing. I do think that it was a little bit too much at times because it almost took away from the main part of the story. I also felt like she got away with it a little bit too much people kind of just ignore the fact that she did it and it was like yeah you should really speak up about that. I do feel that the author did an amazing job with writing the characters around her because they kind of pick up where she lacked. And the whole thing with her dad oh my gosh threw me off like way off. And Santa oh my goodness I cannot believe she did that to Santa. Anyway it was really good story especially when you got more into the heart of it into what the author was trying to get at the plot of the story. I really did like Gaston his character was very interesting because he was very goofy almost but also serious. I definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a holiday laugh something that’s not to be taken serious but you still enjoy it anyway.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fun, lighthearted paranormal romance with a festive twist, which put me in the Christmas spirit. As I have read the previous books in the ‘New Orleans Nocturnes’ series, I was already familiar with the main characters, Jane and Ethan from book one ‘License to Bite’. However, each book in the series is a standalone story although the characters do crossover. In this quick holiday story, Jane Devereux is adjusting well to her new life as a nocturne. She is married to the hottest vampire in New Orleans, Ethan, and is running a popular nightclub in the French Quarter. When she accidentally runs Santa Claus over the only way to save him is to turn him into a vampire. Jane then has three days to teach Santa how to be a vampire and then get him back to the North Pole for Christmas Eve. To complicate her life further, Jane’s father is visiting her for Christmas and she has not told him that she’s married or that she’s a vampire. It was fun being back with the “vamps of New Orleans Nocturnes” and I enjoyed catching up with Jane and Ethan as they are great characters. The storyline flows well, making this an enjoyable and easy read whilst the narrative brings the characters to life. The story has some laugh out loud moments and it’s a real page turner of a novel. I found this romantic comedy with a paranormal twist an exciting and engaging read. I look forward to future books in the series.
SANTA GOT RUN OVER BY A VAMPIRE is the fifth book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. It is being placed as the fourth in the series, so if you haven’t already read Finders Reapers, read this one first and then continue on.
I make no secret of the fact that I love holiday romances or that I love paranormal romance or rom-com. Mix all three together and this is a guaranteed winner. This is laugh-out-loud hilarious. I just may pull this book out and re-read it every time life’s stresses become overwhelming. Don’t blame me if I become addicted to re-reading it daily.
Remember when you were a kid and laughing at “jimgle bells, batman smells, robin laid an egg…”? Santa has even more where that came from! The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Claus is romantically twisted and yet sweet in its own way.
I love the continuing story of Jane and Ethan. Their banter, their relationship, and their love are intense, fun, and quick-witted.
I love visiting New Orleans with Carrie Pulkinen as my guide. I look forward to our next visit!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: SANTA GOT RUN OVER BY A VAMPIRE Series: New Orleans Nocturnes #3.5 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC Received from: Carrie Pulkinen
This book is part of a series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. The blurb of this story is intriguing, and I can't wait to get sucked into it. This is more like a short story, albeit a quirky one. The premise is far-fetched, but I like including the paranormal characters in a Christmas tale. I didn't find this especially funny, but I saw the attempts in the banter and one-liners. I did love the heroic stubborn females in the story.
We begin this book right, jumping into the crux of the matter with a well-placed sentence from Gaston. Jane is in denial, and we get the city this takes place in, New Orleans, and the paranormals and vampires, as you didn't know from the title, some of the details in this story. It appears Jane and Gaston have an interesting relationship, but she is with Ethan.
This is quite the legend they have turned for Christmas for supernatural beings. The author takes this obscene idea for a story and runs with it. Still, the craziness of the concept is funny. Jane's life is a hot mess. She has a sinful vampire boyfriend, a new vampire charger, and a political, human father to deal with. Mrs. Clause clears things up a little bit and reveals a twisted plot.
I mainly enjoyed this quirky, quick read for its outlandish concepts and sassy females. The author is sure punny in her storytelling, taking full advantage of the play on words. The story was sweet enough, but it gets steamy at the end. It wasn't needed. I didn't want the brand of humor in this book; it was much too forced, but I saw what the author was trying to do.
"Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire", no it’s not the begin of a specially pointy joke, but the title of Carrie Pulkinen delicious cozy vampire Christmas mystery. As stated in the cover, Santa Claus just got run over by a vampire, being said vampire Jane Deveraux, who have just embraced her new nocturnal life with her dream drop-dead-gorgeous savior turned vampire husband. But even in the most fabulous ‘unlives’ accidents happen. Jane just run Santa over, three days before Christmas, and had to turn him to save his life, which let her exactly three days to teach Santa the ways of the vampire and save Christmas. And did I mention Dad is coming to visit his ‘very single not vampire daughter’ for Christmas 😉
Carrie Pulkinen’s story is entertaining, funny to the point of whimsical, a wonderful read for the season, by now you are asking yourself, well very nice but where is the mystery? Think about it: will Santa learn to control his urges, or should we barricade our chimneys? Do we need to use gloves from now own to avoid these pesky tinsel cuts? How will Rudolph react? And the biggest mystery of them all… what in the in the name of the Northern Star is Santa doing in New Orleans? Some mysteries will forever remain unearthed, but the story guarantees laughs and excellent mood.
I have read a few books from this author and she keeps on surprising me. I love paranormal books but this series has me addicted. This is the fourth book to the awesome series called The New Orleans Nocturnes. You can read this book as a stand alone but some previous characters are in this story as well. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I could not put it down. This is a fun Christmas book that will make you laugh out loud. I can’t wait to see what this author will write about next.
Jane Devereux is getting used to her new undead life. She is now an owner to a hot night club and she is married to the hottest vampire ever. Jane goes for a ride in an awesome car and she ends up hitting someone. She hits Santa and she has to turn him into a vampire to save his life. Jane now has only three days to get the new Santa ready for Christmas and she has no idea what to do. To make matters worse she also has her father coming over this year and he has no idea that she’s married and is a vampire. Will Jane be able to save Christmas or will it all blow up in her face?
𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂 𝑮𝒐𝒕 𝑹𝒖𝒏 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑩𝒚 𝑨 𝑽𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒆, New Orleans Nocturnes, #3.5 by Carrie Pulkinen
This book was very funny and very snarky. It was also full of every bad vampire world stereotype you can think of. I'll give the author that none of her characters swear. Well, unless you count "damned," as in "damned to the darkness" swearing. The characters are likable, although, the one you like the least is the main character. She's presented as a strong, independent woman, and you might be fooled to think she is a new feminist icon, but she isn't. She's the most unbelievable/relatable character in the book.
However, it was an interesting plot, with a definite twist on the nature of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The plotting and pacing were good, although sort of frenetic; but it is a novella, not a lot of time to develop things further. The editing and proofing were stellar, there was lots of snark, and a final climatic love scene (see what I did there?). All in all it was a fun read if you're looking for a Christmas themed book.
Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) By Carrie Pulkinen 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and I was hooked. It is a book that includes romance and also moments that make me laugh out loud. I love the characters and enjoyed how they interact with each other. The author does an amazing job of making both the storyline/plot and the characters come alive. What does the future hold for Jane? Will she be able to teach Father Christmas how to be a vampire? Will she be able to get through the holidays as her father is coming to visit? Read this book to find out. Don’t miss out on an exciting and entertaining story that you won’t want to put down until the final page. I highly recommend reading it. This is the fourth story in a series that I have loved since the first book.
Well as soon as I heard Carrie had done a christmas book about Jane and more of her lol moments and shenanigans, with her hot husband Ethan and Ethan sire gaston i was over the moon. I love these characters so much and in love with new Orleans 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲 was her first in this series and is my favourite and this book was just as good.
This was absolute hilarious short Christmas story with Jane having only three days to teach santa how to become a vampire, I was laughing all the way through and in stitches haha.
Also if you have'nt read her 1st book for Jane and ethan story. 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲 I would recommend reading that before you read this one, so you know the characters alot more.If your looking for a funny jolly entertaining christmas paranormal to read go and read this now you will not regret it absolute perfection carrie pulkinen as always.
This is such a fun paranormal Christmas romance story. As with all of the books in this series, Carrie Pulkinen delivers on the humour, the storyline and the characters.
The book itself is about a Jane, whom we originally met in book #1 of the series, (although I have not read that book as of the initial posting of this review) whom was was turned into a vampire. In this book she is living an enjoyable and happy life, now a vampire and married. However, has not told her father about her being a vampire or about her marriage. When he announces his intentions of visiting her for Christmas, she has to grapple with his reaction once he finds out about all she’s been keeping from him. If that wasn’t enough stress, she accidentally runs over Santa Claus (yep you heard that correctly) and has to turn him into a vampire in order to save his life, and a lot of mishaps and chaos ensues.
Truly a fun and hilarious read!
I was given a free audio copy in exchange for an honest review of this book.
Is there a higher rating that 5 stars? This book and narration would win it from me! I LOVED every second of this listen. First, the characters and storyline were fun, funny, but still loving and heartwarming. Our main character is newly turned vamp Jane who has quite the blunders and is known for them but she is fun, funny and oh so loveable and maybe just a tad outspoken from time to time but has fierce friends who have her back (I want to be this girl or her bff). Narration was PERFECT. Being a southern girl the narration came thru wonderfully and I understood all those non cussin' curse words! In fact, I may start havin' to use a few to keep my mouth cleaner than it's been! Santa is just fabulous and the twists that Pulkinen give us kept me glued to my audible app listening! I do believe I've got another favorite author and narrator! I can't wait for more!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Parents: This is Not for kids or teens. R-X rated - There is SO much cussing in this book that I didn't even try to keep track (including f-bombs). The violence is moderate fantasy levels (think vampire = more bloody scenes), and sexual content is very heavy: lots of adult bedroom humor and pretty hard to miss insinuations and puns, along with a pretty detailed bedroom scene at the end.
Definitely a fun comical read for the adult vampire enthusiast with a funny twist about being forced to change Santa to keep him from dying and save Christmas... what could possibly go wrong with that? It's a short and quick read at just under 3 hours. I personally don't care for books with this level of bad language and thought puns were a bit too much at times-- it just came off a bit juvenile.
The narrator does a great job, has good differentiation between characters, and is fun to listen to.
—I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Jane Devereux is adjusting well to her new life as a vampire in New Orleans. She runs a very popular nightclub for vampires and is married to her dream man, the vampire who saved her life by turning her. Now, just days before Christmas, she accidentally runs over Santa Claus and has to turn him to save his life. She has three days to teach him how to be a vampire before he has to be back to the North Pole. And, as if that wasn't enough, her dad is coming for Christmas and she hasn't told him that she's a vampire or that she's married.
This is an extremely enjoyable series and this book is no exception. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and loved this quick, fun read. The characters are wonderful and the humor will have you laughing out loud throughout the book. I was hooked from beginning to end and am eager for more from this series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "SANTA GOT RUN OVER BY A VAMPIRE" Carrie Pulkinen absolutely another PHENOMINAL laugh out loud book in the New Orleans Nocturnes SERIES you simple can't get enough of. Jane Devereaux is a newly turned Vampire by Hubby Gaston who as gorgeous & hot as sin she's excited he let her borrow his car she runs the Night Club in New Orleans French Quarter very popular with Vampires big mistake. Jane accidently runs over SANTA who's a Fae King she has to turn him not wanting to cause a war she has to tell the Magistrate teach him how to be a Vampire drink blood I three days, also her dad is coming for Christmas he doesn't know she's a Vampire and also married to one. I definitely recommend to get hilarious laugh a minute book you can't stop reading till the end so well worth the read watching Jane with Santa you'll love this book as I did all of Carrie Pulkinen's "NEW ORLEANS NOCTURNE'S SERIES" are keepers to be read more than once.
This short dark comedy, holiday, paranormal novella is written in third person from Jane’s POV. The story follows Jane during the week before Christmas as she deals with some interesting life complications. First, she ran over Santa and has to turn him into a vampire. Then, her dad is coming to visit for the first time since she became a vampire and got married. I love Jane and how she sometimes misses the obvious. Her optimism is contagious though and I love her can-do mind set. Gaston’s dry humor and the way he messes up the human turns of phrase are hilarious. Ethan is adorable as he expresses his nerves about meeting Jane’s father. Santa, in his state, is funny as all get out. Readers will love the new versions of old favorite holiday songs that Santa comes out singing without much thought. Humor, some family drama, a little heat, and a lot of magic make this a fun and different holiday read for those who like their sugar with a little bit of spice.
