Superstorms threaten to turn Kaia’s planet into a barren wasteland. Still, she can’t believe her good luck. She gets to spend time with her parents at the wildlife refuge watching her favorite species hatch instead of watching her overpopulated home city be overrun by climate refugees. When the Council’s first city deconstruction doesn’t go as planned, Kaia’s life is swept toward an uncertain future. Will she be able to face what lies ahead?

A.W. DAVIDSON is a #1 bestselling science fiction author based in Illinois, North Carolina, and sometimes New Mexico. He was shocked when Deconstruction, his first short story and prologue to a much larger adventure, shot to the top of the charts on Amazon. So, he decided to finish writing the full novel - Relics of Dawn: A Story Carved in Time - available now.

Before this turn of events, A.W. grew up on a farm and ended up working in fast-paced technology consulting, because that is a logical step for a farm kid. While new to writing, he often says it is how he stayed, arguably, sane through 2020. When not consulting or writing, he enjoys spending time with family in the great outdoors and is sad to see it disappearing.

Deconstruction is a good introduction to the world of Relics of Dawn. Although it stands fairly well on its own, it is in fact the prologue to the main story. After reading it, you will want to read more; and you definitely should!

Full disclosure: I Received a copy of this as a goodreads giveaway, and i have not ready any of the other relics of dawn books.

That said, I still enjoyed this. I'm sure that if I had read the other books this would make more sense. But the Childs fear, wonder and sorrow were communicated beautifully over the course of the story. You felt the horror of a young persons trying to understand from the news video as she watched what happened somewhere far away. You felt her joy and love for the animals ont he planet they were caring for. Her assuredness that everything would be all right, and then the realization that it would never be alright again.

While a short snippet, I can definitely see how Kaia would become a main protagonist in another series!

Captivating short story

Deconstruction is a brief, fast-paced short story that gives the reader a glimpse into a frightening world that, by the hands of its inhabitants, has spiraled out of control. Perhaps a prelude to our own future, this story begins with a climate crisis, dying species, and a small group of researchers desperate to change the impending outcome. Highly recommended for its unique story line and high energy writing style!

Of you've read the full book, this is a waste of money

This "prologue" is word for word, the beginnings of Relics of Dawn (a beyond excellent book).
Skip this and just read the book. It'll be well worth your while

I wasn't sure how I felt about this story for the first half of it, but by the end, I was wanting to know what happens next.
