Ashaf and Guideu’s adventures in a world different from their own wrap up in this crazy, revenge fueled volume. Will the pair find their trip to this world worth their while, or will they barely make it out alive?
This volume is so action packed that it was hard for me to put it down rather than reading it all in one go. I just wanted to see what was going to happen next! We finally got some more backstory on Dunward, which blew me away. How tragic! I wish we got to learn more backstory beforehand, but I understand why it was barely revealed now. It was a truly explosive reveal that would’ve had a different impact if it had been revealed sooner. Now I completely understand Dunwards obsession with taking down the Queen of the Night.
There are some other revelations that will impact how the story continues and I’m excited to see where it goes. Will we see Dunward and company again? Possibly. I don’t know if Ashaf and Guideu will decide if their trip was worth the trouble, but I do think the information they found is valuable in unexpected ways. I’m very excited about the follow up volume and can’t wait to read it.
This art. Simply amazing! It may be just me but Ashaf got way hotter, especially when he appeared from the darkness and held Guideau. That was such a hot picture, it’s now my phone’s wallpaper.
Snapshot review: guideau not caring if she dies from the cursed objects as long as she’s able to kill angela. wild. not surprising but it does show just how single-minded she is. what will ashaf have to say about this???
so glad this arc is wrapping up because i am OVER it.
Outline of the story: In a modern Europe-looks-alike fantasy world, there are magic-users and the unearthly powerful beings known as the 'witches'. The witches are seemingly all evil and love to curse people and cause mayhem, so the witches are widely feared and hated by the general public and are hunted by the Church and an unknown organization of magic users.
There are an unlikely pair sent by the Organization to hunt down the witches: Guideau, a teenage girl (?) with eyes of a beast, a matchless ill temper and seemingly unstoppable power, and Ashaf, a level-headed magician who carries a mysterious coffin everywhere he goes?
This volume amps up the cruelty, violence, and gore as our duo continue their mission four levels below. (I've gotten books in plastic for less and I can't recall if this came wrapped or not.) Coming straight out of the last volume, the tone and pacing are steady. The art is gorgeous with more action scenes that need a good eye to decipher and some grotesque panels that are almost too detailed. I can't say I feel any sympathy for Dunward or really care what happens to him any longer, but I am happy with the developments. Sometimes things get messy and the story gets rushed or glossed, but not here, and it's a better book for it.
Guideau is attacked and kidnapped by the Vampire Queen and becomes a prisoner. However, while she is alone, she succeeds in escaping the room and acquires a new weapon for use against the vampires.
Meanwhile, Asyaf, who has narrowly survived, tries to get an audience with the Queen along with Danward and others in order to retrieve his partner. However, there is no way a proud man who was one the King of Vampires will remain silent in the face of someone who has been his target for revenge for so long.
The cruel "Queen" vs. the former "Night King", a century-old relationship collides!
I still love the art style and the characters. Truths are uncovered, spells overcome, and more secrets sprout. Will the origins of "the witch" finally come to light, or will Guideau continue to be cursed? We do discover Dunward's backstory and how the Night Queen came to power, which broadened the narrative scope and filled in some itching questions from previous installments. I look forward to the next chapter in this story, always engaging and well-imagined.
Guys, I think this is becoming one of my favorite manga- World building, divine (pun intended). Art, heavenly. Storylines? Fulfilled!
I love Oscar- just gotta repeat- I love and RESPECT Oscar. Will we see him again, I wonder. Surely we'll see Dunward- because of Angela- but I wonder if a creator/witch-of-the-level has to stay in that level? Or if his beef with Angela allows him to continue to assist the order?
P.s. I retract my earlier simp-ing for Dunward. He doesn't deserve it 😒

While the vampire arc was of to a slow start, all the scene setting paid off in an explosive finale with some unexpected revelations and a bit of valuable information for our dynamic duo.. The tension between Ashaf and Guideau reaches new highs, too; Ashaf looked especially hot in protector mode, with his hair down and covered in blood.
This is for volumes 6-8 for the Fall Arc.... or whatever that place is called.
I really enjoyed these volumes because it was a perfect blend of all things magical and supernatural with a sprinkling of angst. Moral of this story is “keep it in your pants”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is one of my favorite ones yet because it gives more information about Guideau and what is going on with that situation. It has been so far shrouded by mystery and shadow, so it will be cool to see how that new thread gets tied up in the end!
Have to say I did not expect that final reveal. Still no explanation for the whole “depleted magic” thing. Shame it’ll be a while until the next volume comes out…
My review of Vol. 1 gives an overall insight into my feelings on this series.
The final volume in the Orlencia Sett arc: more Dunward, Queen of the Night, Guideau, Dunward, Ashaf, Oscar... and DUNWARD. This conclusion was amazing. I adored following Dunward's Daddy Vampire storyline, and the way things wrapped up seemed perfect. Absolutely my favourite arc of this series so far.
Also - we cannot talk about this volume without acknowledging how amazing those panels are.
