Curiosity is a contagious thing as it brought many to the island although it had been off limits. There was a sense of urgency and thrill in the very thought of going there as much of the history was left unexplained. A young photographer found himself following in his father's footsteps after he is asked to go on an assignment that he will never forget for the rest of his life. On his journey, he finds secrets that keep him prisoner to the wonders that the island holds. There is only one way out and that is to push the very thought of going back there from his mind completely. But, will he take it?

This is a captivating and imaginative story. There are multiple scenes that, with a bit of editing, will be deliciously chilling. I wanted a bit more character development for everyone, though. There was plenty of interesting backstory for sure, but seemingly small traits or turns of phrase or something that brought more depth and individuality to each character. Just a bit more to humanize everyone, and to help me root for them rather than merely follow along with the plot points. That being said, the plot here is fantastic. Really looking forward to reading more from this local author.
As someone who loves horror movies and paranormal thrillers, this storyline was right up my alley. Although there were some slow parts, the mystery itself kept me intrigued enough to finish it in just two days.
Presence is more of a short story rather than the novels I am used to, but it was a quick and easy read which I liked. I would recommend this book to teenagers/young adults.
Overall, this book was very interesting in premise. The island’s mystery was intriguing to read about and what kept me engaged while reading. I did feel some of the plot was slow especially towards the middle, but enjoyed reading about Adam and Sally’s adventure. I hope that there is a sequel, because I feel like I need more information about the island and its people am left with a lot of questions.
Presence takes place on Charles Island off the coast of Milford, CT. There is a mystery surrounding the island, and its secrets are revealed to us when the protagonist, Adam, a photographer is sent there for work. Marissa D’Angelo creates an interesting and rich world of fiction leaving her readers’ hearts pounding and their hands grasping for the next page of this thrilling paranormal mystery! Since Presence, D'Angelo has come out with 4 other Tales of Charles Island: The Cursed Spirit, The Cursed Spirit 2, The Cursed Vessel, and The Cursed Inn. I've enjoyed all of these as well! All worth buying!

So much of this book wasn’t needed and the parts that were the most interesting, the island, the Bible with notes, the camera capturing moments, seemed like second thoughts and underdeveloped. I know that this is all part of a series, but to have a book fall so flat that had such an amazing idea is just :/
