Getting snowed in with a stranger is dangerous—especially for her heart.
Gracie Turner just broke up with her fiancé before Christmas, so after a severe snowstorm causes her car to skid off the road into the deadly waters of Silver Lake, she can’t help falling for her rugged, handsome rescuer. There’s only one problem. He’s a fugitive running from the law.
Barron Hart has a plan to bring his brother’s killers to justice, and it does not involve Gracie. But when the snowy winds batter the backwoods cabin he’s using as his hideout, he has no choice but to wait out the storm with the Sheriff’s daughter. Against her will. Although, if he’s being honest with himself, she’s the one holding his heart captive.
After their first explosive encounter, nothing will warm Gracie up… or stop the sparks flying between them. There are too many secrets keeping them apart. Barron is further dismayed when Gracie uncovers his tragic past. She has the faith to help him heal, but he’s not ready to give up his revenge. Will the mysteries that brought them together, now have the power to tear them apart?
USA TODAY Bestselling Author, Stephanie Fowers loves bringing stories to life, and depending on her latest madcap ideas will do it through suspense, fantasy, historical, contemporary, and of course... romance, romance, romance. Presently, she lives in Salt Lake where she's living the life of the starving artist.
I wasn't expecting a pounding heart for Christmas...
I love suspenseful stories, but I don't do well with stress. Having slid off a road before in a snowstorm, my heart was pounding right along with Gracie's, and when you add that to the fact that fugitive Barron rescued her, I was a slight mess. But I loved every minute of it!
Gracie and Barron are great characters and I enjoyed watching the love, hope, brokenness and desire for revenge play a part in the plot. Coming to terms with what life has handed you and making your own, better way is an important concept.
I love this author's stories, so I didn't even read the blurb and was expected a sweet and fluffy Christmas story, but I was delighted to discover that suspenseful element. A forbidden romance of sorts was a holiday treat, especially as the layers of mystery were uncovered. As they were shredded like strips of newspaper, the romantic sparks ignited them and revealed a swoony tale. It was fun to watch everything unfold in the setting of a remote wintry cabin.
Content: mild romance; mild moments of peril/danger; mild+ religion

A sheriff's daughter and a fugitive snow in together with a cute German Shephard? It can't get any better than that. Such a fun and quick read. Loved it.
This story explores the concept that things are not always as they seem.
Gracie is headed home for Christmas when she is caught in a blizzard. Realizing that she can't continue to drive in the conditions, she takes an exit and heads to a light she sees in the distance. The conditions are so bad that she slides into a lake. She is rescued by the suspect in a murder. Things just seem to go from bad to worse in a short period of time.
This book is a suspense story. Barron is not the murderer, but he knows who is. He is determined to set up a trap and lure the bad guy to his location. Having Gracie show up is not good for his plan.
I loved both Gracie and Barron. They are good people who are caught up in a bad situation. Together they realize that they can accomplish the clearing of Barron's name and bring the perpetrator to justice. Time is not on their side, but they are a formidable team.
This is a fun book that is set during the Christmas season.

How many times can Gracie fall into a frozen lake? Many times. And who saves her? Every. Single. Time.? Barron. Yeah, he's that kind of guy.
The build up in both plot and between characters was good. I could feel the tension mounting. I love when a love story gives me a bit of suspense to liven things up and this one was exactly right and balanced fantastically.
I liked Gracie but I LOVED Barron and his dog too. This book moves along at a great pace and I read through it quickly. It was a fun one!
Content: Christian Fiction (talk of God, praying etc.), kissing, mild peril, mild violence
Chemistry? Check. Danger? Check. Redemption? Check. Blizzard conditions? Check. Fire burning bright and kisses to burn even hotter? Check. Drug dealers, protective father, sassy, scrappy, girl, attractive, hard on himself hero, who just wants to protect the girl? You got it, Check Check Check... Fowers knows how to write a story that's draws you in and you don't want to let go.
I liked this one, but I had super high hopes and was left a little disappointed. That is a me problem, not the author's problem. The writing was engaging, and the story was interesting; it is worth a read, especially if you love a clean, snowed-in romance.
Absolutely loved this book!! Her best work since In the Pursuit of Eden. It was gripping. I loved the characters, the suspense, the writing style... everything! I cannot recommend it’s enough. Fantastic. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
12/28/2020 -- Won this book via the First Reads giveaway program here on GoodReads.
1/2022 -- Fast read, more of a longer novella than a full book (it's only about 170 pages long). Really probably 3.5 stars because it's fairly predictable and the story line is not entirely plausible or probable. The time frame for the romance to occur, while apparently they're snowed in for several weeks, seems still pretty quick. There are some fun moments in their developing relationship, but overall it seemed a bit strained again in the plausibility scenario. Still, it's entertaining and a fun, fast, clean read. This is part of a series of "snowed in" scenarios by multiple authors. I hope to continue reading the other books in the series for more light, clean romance reading.
***I received a copy of this book via a First Reads giveaway here on GoodReads in exchange for my honest review.***
True confession: One of my bookish weaknesses is a heroine in peril rescued by a brooding, gruff hero. And once the cold weather hits, for some inexplicable reason, I crave a stranded in s snowstorm scenario. And, mercy, but does this novel ever deliver! Plus there’s a kinda bad boy vibe going on with our hero which brings an extra thrill.
Loved the tense opening scene, with Gracie trying to navigate her way along treacherous roads. Through a phone conversation with her sheriff father, we learn that not only are the roads practically impassable, but there’s a dangerous fugitive on the loose. Eeeepppp….cue a dramatic drumroll as Gracie’s car slides off the road and….well, then the fun really begins.
Great action scenes, multiple rescues and not only being snowed in for Christmas, but for a couple of weeks! Lots of time for Barron and Gracie to work through their uncertainties, gradually easing their relationship from wary strangers to something much more meaningful.
The author blends in some lovely inspirational themes as well, especially through Barron’s point of view as he struggles to make sense of a troubled past and his deep grief. The redemption of his brokenness brought extra depth to the story.
My first Stephanie Fowers novel, but it won’t be my last. In fact she has a series of ‘snowed in’ books that I have my eye on now. Hoping to get to at least one more before Christmas.
I received a free copy to review: this book is one of my top 21 for 2021! Stephanie captures the reader on page 1 and compels you to grab any spare moment here and there to read a chapter to find out what happens next!! The characters were very authentic, relatable people. The chemistry between bad-boy Barron and daddy's-girl Gracie was palpable and a delight to read about as they each tried to hide it and then eventually gave in. The narrative was descriptive and there was loads of humor which just added to the whole ironic situation. For animal lovers, there's a sweet doggo who features in the story, too! I highly, highly recommend this book to readers looking for a faith-filled, sweet and clean (but not void of physical attraction and affection) romance with a twist. Sensitive readers may want to take note of triggers outlined below.
Language: clean - no cussing, swearing, blasphemy Sex: none, not even referred to prior to marriage for couples Triggers: murder; death; deceitful, manipulative partner; abusive parent; neglectful parent Genre: Inspirational, sweet n clean romance-thriller
Pulling off the road in a whiteout turns Gracie's 'home for Christmas' plans upside down and inside out. Fortunately, her Dad is the Sheriff, and he's following her travels home.
Thus begins a struggle for safety, survival, and then escape for this savvy country girl turned city woman as an unlikely, gorgeous, rugged, tortured, go-weak-in-the-knees, dangerous hero named Barron warms her heart. Can he win her over with all the obstacles between them?
Suspenseful romance with a Christmas season setting.
Wow! So many surprises and turns. I rooted for Gracie and hoped for Barron's redemption. Sparks were flying! I read this one nearly straight through.
Highly recommend!
After you experience this winter adventure, get your hands on Prank Wars also by Stephanie Fowers. A favorite!
Snowed in At Silver Lake is a surprise story in this series. With a framed murderer on the loose and a stranded heroine who keeps falling in the Silver Lake- this story has suspense and more intensity than the rest of the series but is still a unique and romantic story. As the characters are snowed in at a cabin in the middle of the wilderness near Yellowstone, they have little choice but to interact with each other and slowly fall in love. Their interactions have their perfect blend of irate and frustration mixed with sparks and slow growing feelings.
Despite the unexpected intensity and perhaps a little because of it, this story was a great read. There is some of everything that even my husband could enjoy the action.
This book deserves a ten! Barron is hiding out at a friend's cabin after being falsely blamed for his brother's death. Gracie is headed home to share Christmas with her father, the police chief who is looking to arrest Barron. She gets caught in a blizzard but tries a side road after seeing a light off in the distance. Her car slides off the road into a pond. Barron hears the crash from his cabin and jumps into the icy water to save her as her car quickly sinks.
After several days of being forced to stay with Barron, she comes to the realization that Barron is innocent and gently leads him back to redemption and reconciliation with God.
Fun Christmas romance/murder mystery! I love Stephanie Fowers' books. She does a wonderful job of creating a sweet romance whilst also throwing in some less traditional romance elements. Her characters in this book -- Barron and Gracie -- are a bit of a departure from her earlier works, which I enjoyed as well. Barron was a bit more flawed than her usual hero, and Gracie more on the sweeter side than Stephanie Fowers' usual heroines (though I love them all!). This made for a fun Christmas-in-July type read! I won my ebook copy of Snowed in at Silver Lake via a Goodreads Giveaway; my honest review is my way of saying thank you!
Gracie gets stuck in a snowstorm and ends up at a cabin with Barron. Gracie had just heard on the radio that a guy named Barron was a fugitive. Barron is hiding out at a friends cabin when he saves Gracie from drowning when her car slides into the lake.
They’re attracted to each other but Gracie thinks Barron killed his brother and Barron first thinks Gracie is a cop.
They finally figure things out but then Barron pushes her away and tries to get her to leave.
I liked the spiritual parts of the nook and that faith in God is talked about. I just didn’t feel the spark between them though.
What a fun book! I was sucked in on the first page, and didn't want to put it down until I was finished. So I didn't! Who needs sleep anyway, right? Barron and Gracie were so stinkin' cute together! I loved the banter, loved the kisses, and loved the perfect amount of heat, all while keeping it clean. This great holiday read will definitely add a smile to your face! Another amazing book by the talented Stephanie Fowers!!
Great story. This is not a mystery type story: no real surprises. It's more about people coming to grips with their own lot in life. Well done. While not heavy handed, it still made God's presence known.
I thought this would be a sweet snowed in romance. There was murder, kidnapping, drugs, treachery, betrayal, and fun, joy, Christmas, and a whole lot of kissing. I'm not a huge fan of suspense, but the kissing and redemption made up for it. While I wasn't able to read this book quickly, it was a page turner. Gracie and Barron are each great characters. Their love story is unique. And this is an incredibly well written book.
I loved this suspenseful novel! Barron had a tough childhood and is heartbroken when his brother is killed. To make everything worse the law thinks he killed brother. Gracie, on her way to visit he father for Christmas takes a wrong turn and her car plunges into Silver Lake. Barron saves her and holds her hostage....sort of.
This is a fabulous suspense novel with plenty of romance.
I received a free ARC. I am not usually into crime, mystery, etc. books. However, this book had just enough suspense mixed with the perfect amount of romance to be interesting to me. After the first few chapters, I was hooked and couldn't put it down. If you are looking for something different than your normal romance books, I would recommend this one. I definitely will be reading more from this author in the future.
What I love most about this book is how it perfectly captures the Christmas spirit while blending clear, heartfelt romance with an engaging mix of mystery and action. It also beautifully emphasizes the importance of having faith in God, which adds a deeper, more meaningful layer to the story.
This book is utterly heartwarming—a perfect read for anyone seeking a story that inspires both the heart and the soul.
This is a fun book to cuddle up with for the holidays. Gracie and Barron's story is a page turner that will keep you guessing what comes next. It's full of action, adventure, romance and plenty of Christmas fun. I wish I could visit the cabin at Silver Lake. This is a great story you won't want to miss!
Stephanie Fowers brought us a suspenseful book that captures the reader from the very beginning. Gracie and Barron are snowed in together after Gracie plunges her car into Silver Lake. What will a fugitive from the law do with the sheriff’s daughter. There is suspense, romance, fun and danger to be found inside this book. Really enjoyable read.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. There are lots of unpredictable moments and lots of romantic tingles to keep you turning the pages. I loved the main characters, Barron and Gracie. I was also a fan of Gracie's dad, a gruff and overly-protective father with a heart of gold. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was a fun story to read; it had enough suspense to keep you reading! Just remember, everything is not what it seems! Gracie and Barron's banter is great; let us not forget Hound; every book needs a faithful dog! If I were Gracie, I would stay away from the lake. How many times can a person fall into a lake but luckily, Barron was there to rescue her! Definitely a book worth reading!
Definitely an action packed suspenseful romance. Gracie is snowed in with a killer or is she? Barron has been framed for the murder of his brother. Loved watching these two get to know each other. When the story all comes out is so exciting and nail biting. Her dad is a hoot and the ending ending was sweet as well as funny.
As always Stephanie Fowers spins a delightful story with sweet romance, a pinch of suspense and a good dose of redemptive faith. Snowed In at Silver Lake is a great read.
