The Dragons of Kilauea
The tranquil forests of Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park hide a dangerous secret. For centuries, fire-breathing dragons have slumbered in the bowels of the volcano Kilauea. But acts of inexplicable arson and horrific murders around the island appear to have only one explanation.
Those dragons have awakened.
But there is a much deeper, and broader plot afoot. Romy Saturo Kang has a longstanding grudge against the park system. Teamed up with other unsavory locals, his plan includes not only freeing the dragons, but letting loose an eruption of Kilauea that will drive all but his chosen few from the island forever.
Kathy West and Nathan Toland appear to be regular National Park Service Rangers, but they have a secret assignment, to find and contain this kind of supernatural threat. The rangers know the only solution is to seal the dragons back inside their fiery lair…whatever the cost.
Kathy and Nathan have faced monsters like this before, but this time they may have met their match. If they can convince a descendant of Hawaiian royalty and his followers to join their cause, they might stand a chance. But the odds will be long, because no one in living memory has survived an encounter with The Dragons Of Kilauea.

In their first adventure (Claws), Kathy West and Nathan Toland encountered giant crabs. This time around, we are off to Hawaii where their mission is to deal with some relics of a bygone age. Except that these aren't your everyday dinosaurs.
For thousands of years, these creatures have slumbered. Now they are awake, and they're hungry. These are dragons, complete with fiery breath and a track record of making short work of anyone who threatens them, and they have made their home in the Kilauea volcano, deep within Hawaii's Volcanoes National Park. people are being murdered, and it's up to Kathy and Nathan to stop the killings and seal the dragons back up inside their fiery and sulfurous home.
Russell James writes great adventure stories and this series, along with the Grant Coleman stories, is a fast-paced, thrilling and entertaining read, perfect for a train or plane journey or to curl up with in front of a warm fire. Great fun!

January 8, 2025Another adventure for the tough and competent Kathy and the sweet and eager Nathan. Love the action, the characters and the bits of history that we learn. What I love about this book is that it gets down to business fairly quickly. Great, easy and straightforward story, I loved it.

Great Adventure
In this series this was better than the first. I love the characters and the premise of a secret group taking care of our National Parks. Cannot wait for the next trip of Kathy and Nathan.

Rangers Kathy West and Nathan Toland are sent to Volcanoes National Park to seek out and destroy fire breathing dragons, easier said than done. Lots of excitement. 5 Stars

Exotic
Was a good book. Not as much action as we are used too but just enough. I like the idea of the National Parks hiding all these secrets. Having the island history meshing in the book works well. Dragons are always cool (no pun intended) so that works. All in all well done and now on to Yellowstone.

Dragons and diamond spears … cool!
Very intense and I enjoyed the mix of the brotherhood in here to make it seem like the rangers and natives were united. The dragons were intense. You’d think the director could do more than just move two random rangers around … that just doesn’t make sense and will only set these two up to be easily betrayed and then no one will believe them.
