Ryan “Dash” Hayes has a penchant for breaking the rules. If it’s for the right reasons, and he doesn’t get caught, he won’t hesitate. To him, rules are guidelines to be used to keep the sheep in line, not him. But his commander is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because he’s good at his job as a Delta Force Operative. Fast, effective and willing to sacrifice his life to save others.
After her singing partner is killed in a bus crash, Sunny Daye joins the USO. What better way to punish herself for surviving than to put herself at risk in a country full of conflict? When attempts are made to kidnap her, she’s given a choice…leave the country or accept another bodyguard for the remainder of her tour.
Enter Dash, the cocky, irreverent Delta Force soldier who seems to show up at the best/worst times to save the day.
Okay, if she has to have a bodyguard, she has a few rules he must follow:
One - Hands off Two - No kissing Three - No falling in love with the talent
With a grin and a wink, Dash agrees to her terms. But then Dash has never met a rule he wasn’t willing to break.

2nd book in the Delta Force strong series. Contemporary romance with military theme. HFN. Can be read as a stand-alone but book 1 set up the human trafficking that continues in this book.
Finished with a failed mission to catch the head figure of human trafficking, Dash returns to the base just in time to interfere with an attempted kidnapping and ultimately rescues USO entertainer Sunny Date. Now tasked with protecting Sunny, Dash and his team travel the roads of Afghanistan armed and ready for any attempt made to kidnap Sunny.
I liked this couple. Sunny is compassionate and engaging while Dash is a bit of a bad boy. He has good intentions but is so tempted by the beautiful and kind singer. Their passion flares quickly. While it may not be happily EVER after, that seems to be the intent and direction. I really hope they can make it work. Ok, in my head, that’s what I’m going to believe. Assuming the series continues, I’m sure we will her about them again if only secondhand.

Dash may be Delta Force but he knows you need some light in the darkness. How more light can you get than a woman named "Sunny"! The team is after human traffickers working in Afghanistan but the mission doesn't go quite to plan and one of the main players gets away. Before he can get too maudlin, he literally bumps into someone in camp and foils a kidnap attempt. He saves Sunny Daye of all people. His not so secret crush! He thought he'd missed a shot to meet her in person but looks like someone up there likes him!
Sunny knew going to Afghanistan wouldn't be a walk in the park but she's now had TWO kidnap attempts! She's decided that she is not moving without added safety in the shape of Dash. He saved her and she is not letting him out of her sight. It's not a big hardship, he is very easy on the eyes!
Dash makes all those rules she made to shore up her defences seem so...meagre. He just bulldozes them all and makes her neglected libido sizzle! Dash has rules of his own that he may just rescind if it means he gets to have Sunny for his own.
Fully formed plot with engaging characters. This was a quick read for me, nicely filled a lunch hour. I haven't read the 1st book in this series but I was in no way lost and it works nicely as a stand-alone.
Overall Amanda rating: C Once again I find myself "powering through" to finish a book. Once again I find the book to be lacking something, as well as a Susan Stoker knock-off. The characters are lacking originality and creativity. The plotline is just lacking, and it feels like the book finished before I did. It is as if the last pages were torn out of the book, and then destroyed, and then someone came along and tried to "recreate" the masterpiece. We have the average "rule breaker" that falls for the forbidden fruit. Sure he is attractive, but He was very "meh" to me. We have the country starlet in her tour bus, she is a singer that wants to do more for her country, so she strips down into sexy clothes, and sings and dances for the soldiers..... And she is forbidden. They magically meet, fall hard and fast, in a rage of passion. Then boom. The END. I honestly think that this author has potential, she is just not a closer. But hey, at least there is nice eye candy on the cover.
Breaking Rules is book 2 in the Delta Force Strong series by Elle James and while this is a standalone it is also a continuation finding out who is in charge of the human trafficking of women and children in Afghanistan.
Ryan ‘Dash’ Hayes, Delta Force operative is back at base after breaking up a sex trade but losing the man in charge. As he is returning to his tent he runs into a man carrying a body bag...the man gets away but the bag is moving and talking...when he opens it...it’s none other than Sunny Daye the USO singer, he and his team were to see in the show.
Dash and his team are now assigned to keep Ms. Daye safe from anymore attempted abduction which of course leads to more attempts, lots of action, suspense as to who is behind the human trafficking, hot chemistry, romance and finding their HEA...
After another day of trying to track down the mastermind behind a group who treat people as a commodity and put a stop to their operation is unsuccessful Ryan and his team return to their base for some rest and relaxation. He never expected to find danger so close to home when he thwarts the kidnapping of the singer who is there to entertain the men.
Sunny is trying to atone for the past by performing for the men who selflessly serve their country. When Ryan managed to keep her safe when her security detail can’t she is relieved when he is assigned to guard her however the biggest battle of all may be ensuring that their relationship doesn’t become personal.
Intrigue, surprises and two strong characters who couldn’t be a better match.
Such a cute little story.Enjoyed it very much.Sweet and to the point.I love these short stories of yours Elle...They keep my interest..so please keep writing.
recensione a cura del blog “Libri magnetici" by Meghan
«Chi stava prendendo in giro?
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I just adored this story. Breaking Rules is about Dash (Ryan Hayes) a Delta Force operator. He and his team are in Afghanistan. They are trying to take down an American who is selling women and children into the sex trade. The man gets away BUT they were able to save the truckload of women and children. Back at the base is a USO tour group and Sunny Daye is the singer. One of Dash’s teammates really wants to get back in time to see the show but they are too late. Back at the base, Dash is in a race with another Delta, when he accidentally runs into a man carrying a body bag. Dash doesn’t have good feelings when the man drops the bag and runs. Before Dash can take off after the man, a feminine voice cries for help. Dash had just rescued Sunny from being kidnapped!
Even though Sunny has 4 bodyguards, she was still taken. No wonder she only feels safe with the well-built, good-looking Delta. Dash’s commanding officer assigns him to help provide protection as they feel the American trading in the sex business may have been the one to offer put the bounty on Sunny
The author did a fabulous job in keeping me glued to my e-reader. The plot flowed beautifully. Who is the mystery man behind the kidnapping attempts? Is it the same man that the Delta team was after right from the beginning? The story was one that kept me turning the pages on my e-reader. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story especially as it was written in the dual POV format.
This is a sexy read without being erotica. While this is the second book of the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. The first book is for the team leader and I haven’t read it and I thoroughly enjoyed this. I would only recommend this to someone over the age of 18.
Breaking Rules is the second book in the Delta Force Strong series by Elle James but it can be read as a standalone with no problem. The series is about an elite team of Delta Force soldier with each story focusing on a different couple. Members of the team will likely appear in each book, but not as primary characters.
This was a quick and easy read for me. I like that I know what I will get when I read a book by Elle James: heart-pounding action, suspense and a hot and sexy romance between the main characters.
Ryan "Dash" Hayes is a rule breaker, as long as breaking said rule doesn't cause any harm and he doesn't get caught. Sunny Daye (OK, this was kind of a corny name but she is a celebrity after all 😊) is a entertainer with the USO. Dash saves her from a kidnapping and is then assigned to provide her with protection for the rest of her tour.
There are scenes about human trafficking that kind of carry on from book one but nothing is really resolved in this story. There's no cliffhanger but it seems like the human trafficking angle will most likely be carried on throughout the series and I would expect it to resolve when the series ends. I'm just guessing about this though.
Sunny Daye is no pushover or delicate little woman. When things start going down in this book she contributes significantly in the resolution of the situation. Dash and Sunny get a HFN (happy for now) and I hope that by the end of the series that will end up being an HEA (happily ever after).
I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
Breaking Rules: Delta Force Strong Book 2 is by Elle James. To most people, rules are meant to be followed; but for Sgt Ryan “Dash” Hayes, they were meant to be broken or at least bent, especially when they didn’t make sense. However, he was careful not to break those which would ruin his career as a Delta Force member. His team was returning to base camp after failing to capture a man who was kidnapping women and children and selling them in the sex trade. They did manage to free the women and children he was bringing to a sale. He and Lance were racing to get to the showers when Dash ran into someone carrying another person over his shoulder. Knocking them down, the man got up first and ran off. As Dash was heading after him, someone female called help from the bag. He found a gorgeous female in the bag. It was Sunny Daye, the singer from the USO who had just performed a concert for the base. He had thwarted her kidnapping. Sunny was very thankful that Dash had saved her; but not so thrilled when the camp commander added more men to her security team. He insisted on adding Delta Force to her team as they knew the country. The alternative was to cancel her tour which she was not willing to do. She accepted the addition as long as it was Dash. After all, he had just saved her. Thus, Dash was to be in the presence of Sunny Daye 24/7 as long as she was in Afghanistan. His team was added as backup. All Dash had to do was protect Sunny from harm and to keep his distance. He was not to fraternize with Sunny even though there was definitely chemistry between them. Was this a rule he would break at the risk of his career?
This is another wonderful read in the Delta Force Strong series The storyline flows well has characters that draw you in and moves along at a great pace so you never get bored These guys are fast becoming my new favourites
This is Ryan “Dash” Hayes he and his delta team mates are on the search for an American that is kidnapping and selling woman and children If you read the first book in the series Breaking Silence he is the man that Nora was kidnapped by ans she is the one that told them he is American. When their latest intel falls through they rush back to base as they are hoping to catch Sunny Daye's USO show She has recently suffered the loss of her singing partner who she hoped would become more and after an argument she left the tour bus a bus that was then involved in an accident killing him. Dash is more interesed in a shower thatn the show that they have missed anyway and is rushing in that direction when he collides with a man carrying a body bag he runs and Dash discovers that the person in the body bag is a very annoyed and alive Sunny. It now appears that Sunny has caught the eye of their human trafficker. She needs closer guarding and Dash is selected to be up close and personal while his team escorts them on the rest of the tour With numerous attempts to grab her Dash and her get closer and closer until he finally realises he may have found the woman that can handle is operative lifestyle if he just can keep her safe.
This was an enjoyable read. I didn't hate it but it didn't draw me in like I was hoping it would. Dash and Sunny were both likeable characters. They both seemed pretty cliche for me.. Dash being the 'rule breaker' and saying he has rules he follows but ultimately 'breaks rules' because rules are meant to be broken. He was your typical alpha male, who instantly falls in love with the talent and doesn't think he's good enough since he's just a Delta. I did enjoy reading how he really did care about Sunny and her well being though. He seemed very genuine in his feelings and I like that he didn't immediately take advantage of her and get her into bed the first chance he got.
Sunny was a likeable character but I thought she was pretty cliche too. She's a country singer who's singing USO shows in Afghanistan and although she knows the dangers, manages to somehow get herself caught up in the danger, and is almost kidnapped several times. She also is wanting to do more for her country and give back, and help refugees and anyone she can which is nice. She almost seemed to be written 'too nice'.
I think this book would have been great if it would have been longer, but it basically happens, they meet, talk, she sings, almost gets kidnapped, sings again, they fall hard, boom the end.
This book truly kept the action going. Dash and Delta Force had another bead on the American involved with the human trafficking ring. There was action, suspense, and disappointment.
I was not sure what to expect next, but I wasn't disappointed when the action ensued again. When Dash met Sunny, I couldn't envision that their leading theory of the situation was feasible. After all, it would take a set of brass ones to pull that plan off.
I liked the chemistry and banter between Dash and Sunny. It really didn't feel like they had only known each other for a couple of days. When the identity of the American came to light, it was no surprise. Before his identity waa revealed, I was suspecting everyone that wasn't Delta Force, lol.
This book was pretty much non stop action. It moved so quickly and I was so intrigued, that I did not plan to read it in one sitting, but I ended up doing just that.
Dash and Sunny plan their HEA, and I hope we get to see more of it in future Delta Force books. A drama and action filled, steamy, romantic, military read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
In Breaking Rules (Delta Force Strong Bk #2) by Elle James we meet the hero famous for breaking both rules and hearts- Delta Force soldier Ryan Hayes, aka "Dash". He is on a mission with his team to capture an elusive American involved in sex trafficking of women and children in Afghanistan. The heroine in this story is a USO performer named Sunny Daye. When attempts to kidnap Sunny are made during her tour, their paths literally collide. Dash is put on official protection duty and becomes her personal bodyguard for the rest of her tour. Fun, mayhem, and attraction soon follow! And in Dash's words: "...I'm about to break all my self-imposed rules, and I think love is as good an excuse as any." This book has a little bit of everything- military action, romantic tension, humor, and of course, the breaking of some rules;-) An overall solid read. That being said, I found this book a tad predictable, and more of a "fun" read than super emotionally charged (I'm not putting the serious topic of human trafficking down, just giving my personal opinion on the story). I received an ARC of this book to honestly review.
Sunny Daye's singing partner died in a bus crash so Sunny decided to begin her single singing career giving of herself by signing up for a USO tour in Afghanistan. From the moment she landed in Afghanistan there were attempts to kidnap her. Delta Force Sergeant Ryan "Dash" Hayes saved Sunny during the second attempt. From there on Sunny has Dash and his Delta Force team watching her back. I liked this couple. They recognized the best in each other and were willing to break a few rules to achieve happiness.
Breaking Rules by Elle James is the second book in her Delta Force Strong series. This story has lots of action and great scenes.I enjoyed seeing the whole Delta team in action. Their mission in Afghanistan was to capture or in whatever way necessary stop an American responsible for the human trafficking ring in their area of Afghanistan. Human trafficking is the epitome of evil. I must say anyone who works to stop human trafficking is near and dear to my heart.
Breaking Rules is another phenomenal romantic suspense from author Elle James. Ms. James once again transports us into the lives of heroes. This well-written book is populated with a spectacular cast. Singer Sunny Daye is doing a USO tour for the deployed troops when she's the victim of an attempted kidnapping. Ryan "Dash" Hayes is a Sergeant in his Delta Force unit and they have just rescued a group of women and children being sold and delivered them to base just in time to stop Sunny's kidnapping. Dash and Sunny's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved this story and look forward to my next book by Elle James. Breaking Rules is book 2 of the Delta Force Strong Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We are back in Afghanistan with the Delta Team that has been searching for the individuals behind the local human trafficking. Back from a mission that saved many women and children, Ryan/Dash Hayes hears a cry for help, and rescues the lovely singer, Sunny Daye. This was the second attempted kidnapping , while all she wants is to perform for the soldiers who are risking their lives in Afghanistan. Dash, suspecting the reason behind the attacks is to sell her, is more than happy to be of service by becoming part of her security team. As the attraction intensifies, so does the danger. Will Dash be able to keep Sunny safe? Will he be able to keep his heart safe even though a future with Sunny is not likely. Another good addition to this promising series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Ryan “Dash” Hayes has just come back from a short assignment, not even the rest of his team is back and he literally runs into trouble. That trouble is a celebrity singer. Sunny Day. He stops an attempt to kidnap her off of a military base. She stands up and says she wants him to protect her going forward. The powers that be make an agreement and voila Dah and his guys have a modified assignment as they think they are dealing with the same threat that they are chasing as well, a human trafficker. Even before they get back to her trailer Dash has already broken all of her rules that she has established. He thinks this is gonna be fun. He gets to protect the girl and get some kissing. He knows that tou can’t have a relationship with a Delta force operator and he’s going to prove it. He just might lose his heart though.
Breaking the rules is what Ryan "Dash" Hayes does best. He is tasked with being a bodyguard for a celebrity singing for the USO, Miss Sunny Daye. Well he saves her before he officially meets her and the sparks fly from there but there are rules to follow but well rules are meant to be broken, right?
Sunny may be a celebrity but she is kind and caring and not all that concerned with her looks. She is beautiful inside and out and Dash is attracted to her. He himself is a Delta Force soldier who hasn't found the right woman to share his life with. He is cautious because he could be called to service at any time and be gone for weeks up to a year. He has met his match in Sunny because as a singer she is on tour for long stretches of time, who better to understand that. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series.
5 stars I received a free copy of the steamy military, Fort Hood Texas, USA based novel Breaking Rules: Delta Force Strong book 2: Dash and Sunny by Elle James and this review was given freely. Set in Afghanistan this story is action packed and suspenseful from the beginning to the end. This easy flowing instant attraction romance features the SEAL Team brothers we love from book 1 and their continued quest to stop an American human trafficker but, also features the once cocky, rule breaking, self sacrificing Delta Force Sergeant Ryan “Dash” Hayes's captivation by and protection of USO Texas, USA singer Sunny Daye. Contains violence but graphic level is love. Makes a good standalone but, best if read in series order. Mild steam level.
When Ryan aka Dash saves Sunny from a kidnapping in Afghanistan, he is tasked as her personal bodyguard during her tour performing for the troops. The attraction is instant for both of them and it doesn’t take long for these two to break all the rules...now he just has to keep her safe from the human traffickers. A good read with steam, insta lust/love, some suspense and action. I liked these two, little to no drama between them and the story flowed nicely. I would have liked a bit more of an ending for them, such as how the rest of the tour went and how they work out their schedules with her touring and his deployment. Otherwise an enjoyable read and can’t wait for the next one. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Suffering from survivor’s guilt when her partner dies in a crash, international singing sensation, Sunny Daye decides being a USO fixture might be a solution. At a show, when Sunny goes to the mess hall to find some nibbles, she’s hooded, bagged and tossed over a shoulder before she can. Hotshot Delta operative Ryan ‘Dash’ Hayes happens to be on an op to capture a trafficker in the area and thwarts Sunny’s kidnapper. It’s a second near miss and time for a Delta bodyguard…Dash is up.
Avoiding thinking of how he scampishly got a lip kiss instead of a cheek kiss, Dash fills his head wondering how Sunny’s bodyguards left her vulnerable for kidnapping and what a plum she’d be if the kidnappers actually got away with her! Rating: 4.25stars
This book was fun to read. The story revolves around Sunny Daye, the Celebrity Singer, and Ryan 'Dash' Hayes, Delta Force Operative who becomes personal security for Sunny, have an attraction for each other from the first time they met. This attraction continues to grow into something they hope is love. You will find action, suspense, romance and people who deeply care for one another. If you are looking for a good book to read and enjoy for the evening, this is the one for you.
I received a free copy of this book for a honest reviews. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys romance suspense and military romance.
This is another great book in the Delta Force Strong series The story flows well and the characters draw you in. I was never bored. The story caught my attention from the very beginning. These guys are fast becoming some of my favorites. This book kept the action going. Dash and Delta Force had another bead on the American involved with the human trafficking ring. Dash saved Sunny during an abduction attempt. From there on Sunny has Dash and his Delta Force team watching her back. Can they keep Sunny safe and catch the bad guys? Lots of action and suspense and of course romance with a HEA.
Fabulous suspense I think the suspense element in this book is its most outstanding feature – you can never quite relax. And that moment when Dash rescues Sunny at the base is heartstopping. There’s dual POV, which is not usually something I enjoy reading, but it’s perfect for this book because Dash and Sunny are such different characters. Delta Force Strong have become a must-read – the team is a great group of men (well, and hot!), the suspense is sustained, and there is more than enough heat to leave you breathless. And, as always, Elle James makes you feel part of the world she’s created.
How can men b so self absorbed into themselves thinking they can do bad and evil things and not get a away with it? Dash accidentally hits a person while not paying attention where he was going cause his mind was on other things. The person he knocks over drops sumthing and runs away b4 anything else happens. But when he starts 2 leave he hears a strange noise and finds 1 hell of a good surprise!! he has work 2 do and his buddies r working with him in protection. But who is he protecting and why? Read and find out. It was really good and pumped up in a few spots. It's worth the read like most of them r.
Another intriguing military romance written by an author who creates outstanding characters and involving stories. Dash is a delta force operative whose mission is to discover the face behind the human trafficking occurring in Afghanistan but at the same time he is assigned to protect a singer who has become their target. While both have strict rules of not getting involved in relationships, their chemistry is undeniable. So between attempted kidnapping and gunshots, both will realize that they are meant for one another. This is another great read of this new series.
4.5 Stars This is book two in the Delta Force Strong series and it features Ryan “Dash” Hayes and Sunny Daye. This romance happens uber quick! This entire story takes place in a matter of a couple days but I guess when you know, you know. These are two people that long for more but their careers don’t really allow for more. He’s Delta Force and she’s singing on a USO tour entertaining the troops in Afghanistan. The chemistry is sizzling HOT! The action is fantastic.
The story line is great and the characters are amazing! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
