Two years at the academy. Four alpha jerks. One badass thieving assassin stuck in the middle of them all. A forgotten and deadly curse.
Daesyn Heartlocke wanted nothing more than to finish her latest assassin-for-hire job, get her boss off her back, and get back to hanging out with her talking monkey. But when the job goes wrong, Daesyn finds herself being dragged into her father’s world of the reapers. The world she ran away from, the world that offers nothing more than darkness. What’s worse? To stay free and, most importantly, alive, Daesyn has to swap places with a student who is due to go to a crazy academy. Royal Reaper Academy is a two year test, and only one student comes out alive. If you can make it to the end, you are given the throne of the reapers. No pressure?
Daesyn has no choice but to win. Luckily for her, surviving is what she does best. Even if the other students are trying to kill her.
Outside the realm of the reapers, another world awaits Daesyn, and it calls home all those who escaped.
But Daesyn can’t escape what’s in her blood. Or the curse that is destined for her that has just been awoken.
Fans of epic urban fantasy romance will love this five-book series by USA Today Bestselling Author G. Bailey. This is a reverse harem romance meaning the main character will have more than one love interest. This series is a crossover of the series, A Demon’s Fall, but can be read on its own.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
An excellent continuation of the series, but 10 years later and with a new heroine, Daesyn. I was worried that this would not be as good as the previous book, which is why it had taken me so long to start the next book in the series.
Daesyn is given an impossible mission. Assassinate the hero Queen Evi. When Evi sees something of herself in the failed assassin. She let's her live with a promise. However, Daesyn is taken to the realm of the Reapers on another almost impossible mission. Daesyn has secrets that could destroy her and those around her. What does everyone want from her? Apart from a growing list of powerful people who want to kill her, she might also find "friends" and even family and links/knowledge of her past if she survives.
This book was more about the world building as this realm was less explored in the last books. Also mainly new characters and a new light on a returning character. I can't wait for what comes next.
This book completely floored me!! It was just a cracking read. Assassin Daesyn (FMC) has an assassination to take care of but it doesnt go to plan & she ends up enrolling at The Royal Reaper Academy. Not the greatest place for her to he considering her heritage. She has to hide herself whilst being there, pretend to be someone else, watch her back and contend with 4 hot complicated men. Finn - Demi God, Seb - Seelie Prince, Ryker - Hellhound and Seth - Demon. Add to that friend & fake sister Poppy and a fae monkey/familiar Mossy who had me in absolute stitches throughout this book. Especially with his name for Finn (lol). That ending literally had my jaw dropping. It was that good as was the whole book. Im dying to get my hands on the next book now. Loved this one
What can I say, but that this author knows how to start a series. She always catches my attention with these leading ladies and this one is no different. The female lead is strong and never really had a break in life. But maybe, just maybe someone will come along and give her just the break she needs. Just the support she needs.
I do want to say it does end on a cliffhanger but to me it just sets it up perfectly for book two. Would definitely recommend.
This is the start of the “Royal Reaper Academy Series”. Daesyn Heartlocke had an assassination to complete, but things went wrong and she may have made a bad choice. Pretending to be someone else, she ends up being taken to the Royal Reaper Academy where she will be tested over a two-year period. This is one test students had better study for because only one can survive it! And even if she makes it that far, the reward is the last thing she wants to claim – the throne of the Reapers she tried to escape!
This is a fast-moving story line that will keep the reader intrigued from the start as Daesyn tries to make the right choices for survival while dealing with multiple obstacles along the way. Every turn she makes seems to lead her further to where she doesn’t want to go. Will she be ready to do what she has to do when she gets there?
This was just...wow! I love this world. It's the same world as Queen Evelina (whom I love dearly) so this series is going to be awesome! I'm so excited for the next book to come out. Warning: there is a slight cliff-hanger it's a typical G. Bailey cliff-hanger so it's not the worst but just enough to keep you wanting. Daesyn is a great heroine and I'm excited to learn more about her and watch her grow. Mossy is the BEST! I love him so MUCH! He's honestly one of the best things in this book. The men....yummy. Finn, Seth, Seb, and Ryker. I want to know more about them and see how much they evolve in the next book, I think it'll be such a great transformation!
Overall: 5/5!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was mistakenly under the impression that this was a standalone RH. It's not. I kept doing the percentage countdown in my head...thinking things like "Man, there's a lot to resolve in 20% of the book. Huh, it seems like that last 10% is really going to answer some questions."It doesn't. The book ends on an awful cliffhanger that leaves everything unresolved.
I won't continue with this series because it's not unique enough to draw me in.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
I just binged the A Demon's Fall series and I was so excited to dive into this new-ish world that connects to that series. Daesyn is so great - I may even like her a BIT more than Evie, but not by much. Daesyn is full of twists and turns and she's an anomaly. It doesn't seem that her secret can really stay a secret because everyone around her can feel her magic and what she really is. But I really love how brave and fearless she is, how she's a great fighter and has a soft heart, even though she doesn't want that last part.
Torfinn, Sebastian, Ryker and Seth (yes, Seth!!!) are seriously the four most different kind of guys you can pair together to love Daesyn. And honestly, I'm rooting for Seth the most, than Ryker. Sebastian and Torfinn are all over the place right now and don't want to express their true feelings for Daesyn, but Seth and Ryker are all in and I love seeing them interact with Daesyn.
That ending?!? Like, what?!? I would be POed if I were Daesyn on the situation she was put into by someone who supposedly loved her. I am very, very intrigued on what is going to happen next, but I know for sure that Daesyn won't go without one heck of a fight.
Also, I love Mossy and his nicknames for everyone and how devious he is :D
Loved this book and I will be waiting impatiently for the next installment!
This series has potential, but the author needs to do another read.
For example; 1. the MFC steps out of the lift and into the ball with Seth, he tells her that he could take her out of there. That she just has to tell him, and she says no, that she needs to stay for a little while. Right after thaf scene, she notices Seb. When he sees her, he walks up to her and says, you shouldn't be here, I know a place I can hide you. She turns to Seth and says that Seb has a point and decides to leave with him....??? It might make more sense if Seth just didn't show up... or maybe he does, but doesn't offer to take her away?
2. This one takes place at the end of the book, in the throne room.
Finn comes rushing in, sees that only the queen and her five whatevers are there along with Ryker who is being held down with cuffs on.
After he snaps his fingers killing two of the five and then frees Ryker he says something about the queen sending him away to get ready for another test.... ** The issue here is that Finn was teaching their class and was about to battle the MFC. There was an explosion in the castle. Seth made a portle to check/save his little sister and the MFC jumped through after him, with Finn calling after her....
So either Finn was not off somewhere else and should have been able to easily save the MFC. Or the throne room scene took place further out than just minutes/hours after she was knocked out and Finn just didn't care enough to stick around..
These are the kind of mistakes that really take away from a story.... readers can easily spot when something is thrown in just to make the story move in the right direction. These transitions should flow instead of being dropped in like a misplaced puzzle piece.

This is the first book in G. Baileys new Royal Reaper Academy series. Daesyn is a young woman that has been on her own since she was a child and lost her family. She has had to make a lot of hard choices and is faced with continuous bad decisions. One of those decisions leads her to making an even worse decision or face dire consequences. Daesyn is escorted to the Royal Reaper Academy as someone else. She is expected to endure tests and fights to the death all in order to claim a throne she doesn't want for a people she wants nothing to do with. Bailey did a good job building this new world and the new characters. The intro makes me think that this is a spin off of another series, but I didn't find one with a quick look. I will have to check again, because I would happily read Evie's story. I always like when the fmc has female friends and isn't hated by every woman she meets. I never find that realistic or enjoyable to read. Most women are not catty, jealous creatures. So thank you for Poppy, she is a good side character and a good friend to Dae throughout the story. I am looking forward to seeing more of her. The men are likeable enough and as your read there are definite moments where they almost spill the beans on important info that as a reader of pnr you know what they are about to say! This book is mostly filled with world building, story prep, and sexual tension.

What is the rune she supposedly has? Daesyn lost her mother and uncle when she was eight and had to flee the fae world. She was found by a demon and forced to be an assassin. Now caught on one of her missions, she is at the reaper academy helping keep a reaper daughter alive. Because at this academy students fight against each other to the death and the winner will be the reaper king or queen. But Daesyn has a friend in Poppy and she quickly has four men enraptured with her. A demon lord, and demi-god, a hell hound, and a fae-reaper Prince. They will do anything to protect her. But can they protect her from the man who comes to her in her dreams and hurts her, or the fae prophecy to which she seems to be attached. That she will bring destruction. The one who holds the rune. ***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
This book was fabulous! Sometimes you never know with a books description and I questioned this one. I'm so happy I read it. I have been really lucky with picking up books I wouldn't normally go for an really enjoying them.
Daesyn is an assassin who was caught trying to complete the task. Instead she is now being propositioned to switch places with this mans daughter and go to this academy for reapers. Of course she does this so she doesn't face death... well at least for now. There is always that chance. Daesyn has four men who all want her and she has no idea who to choose. She can't really seem to choose at all and they all want to be there for her!
I really want a Mossy for myself! He is the best!I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
A runaway magical assassin who goes to a magical Academy to impersonate someone else's daughter to win the crown in a death match. What could go wrong? I thought there would be more events or the story would have a Hunger Games vibe but apart from two events it was not that full on. There then there is a Demi God, a Hell Hound, a Demon and a Prince (all walked into a bar, just kidding) all in lust with our little Assassin which will make thjngs a bit complicated going forward. This is more about the war between Seelie and Unseelie Fae and the thirst for power with Daes caught in between. There is obviously more back story and history but we have yet to find out why she is so special. The Seelie Fae can be just as evil as the Unseelie so the difference between them is very small. Hopefully the second book will pick up the pace.
While reading The Cursed Rune, I don't know why but it kind of reminded me of G. Bailey's Protected by Dragons series (which I LOVED, of course); both series aren't even in the same universe (that I know of) but I guess it's because I had that same feeling of enthusiasm while reading these books. I have to say that I have great expectations for this series now (not that I want to put too much pressure on the author haha).
So far it's slow paced, which I love. I really like Daesyn's character, as well as her four love interests (especially Seth, I need more Seth. And Ryker as well). I'm very intrigued about the unseelie fae part of Daesyn. I want to know why they are treated so badly by everyone.
In this book we meet Daesyn, who is an assassin who is forced to attack and try to kill Queen Evie (who you may remember from G. Bailey's Demon series). When Daesyn is taken into custody after her assassin attempt and found that is she a half breed, she is forced to go to the world of reapers. While there she has to swap places with a young reaper who has been chosen to go to the reaper academy where only one person is supposed to survive by the end of term, but if you do you are given the Thorne of Reapers. All Daesyn has to is keep herself and the young reaper alive to the end? Easy right?
Daesyn is an assassin who has kind of had it with her life the way it's going. When her half hearted attempt at killing the new queen fails she knows her days are numbered. Thankfully there's a reaper there with an offer she can't refuse. She takes the place of one of his daughters in the royal reaper academy where essentially she dies or becomes queen. Two things that she's really not all that interested in. If that wasn't enough she can't let anyone find out that she is half unseelie because that would be instant death. Oh there are also a few hot guys in the mix for an extra distraction.
I really enjoyed this one. I liked Daesyn and the story so far isn't bad.
I already like this series, set after the Demon’s Fall books and after Evie has become queen and saved the world, better than that one. Daesyn is kind of amazing, and I love her story! This book just has great flow and more amazingly no characters. I’m not crazy about monkeys, but Mossy is a riot. Her love interests are all so different…Finn, a demi-god, Ryker, a hellhound, Sebastian, a reaper prince, and Seth, one of the last two demon overlords. Her life was already crazy & dangerous, and now she’s at a school that makes it even more so. There are so many secrets! I can’t wait to find out what they all are!
Syn reminds me so much of Evie in their determination and the trails and tribulations in their life. I love G. Bailey work, I love the way her mind works and how she builds worlds with her words and emotions bc just like in our world most nice people are wearing a mask and raw people are considered outsiders. On to book 2 bc that cliffhanger got me. I love how Seth and Ryder make their feelings toward Syn shown in beautiful way, our other men have catching up to do. Great paranormal romance with a action
I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! Centered around a young woman who is witty, brave and fierce. One who has endured much physical and emotional.pain in her short life. Will that pain fuel her in what's to come? Prophecy, oodles of supernatural excitement, desire for justice, and of course sprinkle in a few wicked beings along the way. This book has so much adventure, mystery, intrigue and excitement. Be warned...a crazy cliffhanger will have you desperate for more!!
I couldn't be more thrilled G. Bailey decided to return to the Protector world. I loved Evie!
I have a love/hate relationship with a lot of Bailey's work. I think I have read 80% of it at this point and some series I adore, and others it feels really hard to differentiate the heriones. Regardless, I keep coming back to the books.
The Cursed Rune Series seems so promising! I cannot wait for more Dae!
I absolutely adored this book! I love how G Bailey connects worlds and universes in such a way that makes you continue to want to live inside of them. The characters in this book grab hold of you and don't let you go until the last words. They then leave you wanting more when the book is over. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
The beginning was action packed from the get go. Love, love, love the variety of guys in this one. Also the slow build up of Daesyn's relationships with them. The trials are interesting and will bring about a queen. We see characters from the other series. Can't wait for the next one in this series.
OMG! I have a new favorite! G. Bailey has done it again! Daesyn bad@$$ assassin and Mossy the trusty sidekick. Queen Evelina makes an appearance and a certain Overlord Demon from the same world, making connections to both series-which I love when G does that. Demi-god, Prince, Hellhound, and an overlord Demon, what could go wrong? I love seeing Poppy grow as well. Can't wait til book 2!
I like the characters and the storyline is okay. I wish there had of been more of the academic side shown (like interacting with more of the students), and although a lot of the characters are duplicitous and cruel, I really want to see them get their butts handed to them.
This author is new to me and she didn't disappoint. Am in love with the story and the characters. She described everything so well and in good details. I love Daesyn and her attitude. Mossy makes me want him to be my friend. Love all the guys. Poppy is wonderful too. Can't wait for the next book.
The writing tries too hard and comes up lacking and forced. It makes for an awkward, stilted read.
Also, the way to get the heroine into the academy is super convoluted, it’s just ridiculous. I can suspend disbelief, but I won’t contort myself just so the author has less work to do.
while I liked the Demon's Fall series, I loved this series. I listened to the audio for both these series. While there are similarities in both series, I immediately liked the narrator for Royal Reaper Academy. This is hilarious because my husband said he couldn't listen to this audio series with me because he hated the narrator. To each his own.
I really loved this book. A spin off of A Demon's Fall; we see a new MC making her way in the world and finding things out about herself that she didn't know. This is going to be a great series with an outstanding start. I can't wait to read more.
Loving this...our heroine is feisty and adorable...Her men are feisty and adorable also...Her monkey is also adorable...what can I say...looking forward to reading the next book in this series...have preordered it.x
