Heartache is especially vicious over the holidays.
But when Clay McCade walked in and saw me, elbow-deep in a trashcan, saving my called-off wedding invitations, his warm chuckle made me smile and my skittish heart started to beat again.
What’s the worst thing that could happen if a silver-eyed, army boy from next door comes home before Thanksgiving and wants to catch up before he ships off?
It's not like I'm going to fall in love with the guy.
One car ride, and a late-night piece of chocolate cake later, I fell for Clay so hard the ground cracked and my heart swung its doors wide open.
I never had such a fun Thanksgiving and looked forward to Christmas for the first time in years.
But the reality was, Clay would soon be gone. Possibly for good.
With my life rooted in Pine Haven, lovingly pinned in place by my family and passion for photography, my holiday fling with Clay would need a Christmas miracle in order to turn into a real relationship.
Will Clay and I have a picture-perfect ending, or will my heart be shattered beyond repair by the new year?
Melissa had been out of the dating scene, for two years due to her ex-fiance, Michael being found with a woman, at the stroke of midnight, between his legs, at his future-in -laws home. Money doesn't buy you, class. But, putting so much of her extra time into her work, is giving her great returns.
Life is changing fast and for the better. She got a new home, starting a new job, and a next-door neighbor who gives her goosebumps comes for a visit. Clay is her good friend's younger brother, but only by a year. To look at him, there is no telling because he is, all man. Clay starts courting her, right away. Yet, he is only visiting, for a week.
Clay is a man with a crush on the girl next door, and he is willing to do anything to be with her. My thing is what is his original plan a one and done? That didn't make sense, either because he has such a crush on her. Then, his mother, can we just say cut the woman off? She meddles just a little too much. She is calling every evening, is that healthy?
Then, there are the supporting characters Tess and Scott, they are too funny. They are the best friends, but not going to allow them to not see their own, BS. These two have so, much pent-up sexual tension that has them bickering all the time. They are just the best comedy, relief. Where Clay and Melissa, are love birds to the furthest degree.
This story has a little of everything, sweet romance, sexy overbearing and frustrating alpha male and a beautiful woman who has the right heart and spirit. Thoroughly enjoying and entertaining.
TLDR: it’s a short, sweet and cute romantic novel with HEA. Both MC are very likable and cute. The book is also likable and cute. I think it’s worth your time and money if you are into this kind of books.
Disclaimer: I'm sick at the moment so I really enjoyed a story without any angst, huge suspense, GOT level of plotting … - the book is a sweet romantic story with HEA. Both MC are very likable and cute. Because the overall story isn't that long we don’t get a deep dive into their characters but that didn’t bother me and I don’t really expect it in this kind of novels. Melissa Monroe is a professional photographer, very good at her job and successful. I’m not sure if it’s ever specifically mentioned but you get the impression that she expresses her wild artistic side in her work. In her personal life she doesn’t like taking any risks and is quite set in her way. Two years before the book starts she broke the engagement to her long time boyfriend (they have been together six years, two of them engaged) because he cheated on her. When we meet her she is not heartbroken but she is afraid to take another chance at love and risk getting burned again. In the beginning she is just two days shy of her thirtieth birthday and reflecting on her personal life and the choices she made and decides to take the chance on Clay.
Clayton “Clay” McCade is an engineer in the army. He has just gotten home from Alaska where he has been stationed for the last couple of years. His contract just ended and he’s about to sign another one for four more years. He has been more or less in love with Melissa since she moved next door when they were children. This is the first time he thinks he has a chance to start something with Melissa and he goes for it.
I like that the story doesn’t make a big deal out of Melissa being friends with Clay’s big sister and Clay being younger than her. I actually quite like the role reversal from the cliché. I think that both MCs make sense in the book and the overall story is good. I disliked the obligatory “break up before we get together for good” plot device. I don't think it makes any sense in this book and the whole execution of it is awkward. It’s supposed to be there to pack an emotional punch but here is just … not good? Weird? Confusing? It’s a shame that it’s so out of tune from the rest since the rest is so good. I think that the book could be better if it were longer and I found a couple of issues with it but overall I really enjoyed it and had a great time reading it which is all you can ask from a book.
The novel has a bit of an unpolished feeling but that is to be expected from an ARC and I’m sure the published version will be great. I’ve read published books with more mistakes so I don't see that being an issue.
Melissa Monroe and Clay McCade grew up right next door from each other in the town of Pine Haven, Pennsylvania. Melissa always saw him as her best friend's younger brother, but Clay had a big crush on her. He has been gone for awhile, in Alaska on a confidential base. Clay and Melissa shared an occasional text, but that was it. Things change dramatically when he comes home for the holidays a little early and finds her digging her unused wedding invitations out of the trash. Melissa caught her terrible excuse for a fiance cheating on her in the middle of a New Year's Eve party. She's so surprised and delighted that he's home and the next thing she knows, she's flung herself into his arms, signaling a shift in their friendship. Their attraction was intense and it didn't take long before they both wanted to see where it would take them. They are sweet and very hot together, but there's a little voice in the back of Melissa's mind that tells her he's not going to stick around forever. She does something totally unexpected and Clay's heart is broken. At this point, I was ready to shake her and tell her to wake up1 It's a very good story that moves toward a very happy ending. The epilogue is adorable!
This is the first book in the Pine Haven Holiday Romance series. Melissa has given up on love after finding her then fiance in a very compromising situation. Instead, she has put her heart and soul and all her time into her work. Life is changing fast and she is content with how things are going. She doesn't need a man in her life to make it complete. At least that's what she thought until Clay shows up next door. He is her younger brother's best friend and only visiting for a week. Clay has always had a crush on her and when he comes home for the holidays, they reconnect and rekindle their friendship which starts to develop into something neither of them expected. Their attraction is undeniable but Melissa has already been burned in love and Clay is only in town for a short time. Will she put it all on the line and risk her heart for something that could turn into more and exactly what she needs? Such a well-developed and sweet (and steamy!) story that will pull you in from the very start. Ms Sable did a great job with the characters and making them real and relatable which gave them an authentic quality. This story will definitely give you all the feels. Great story!

Turning His Crush Into Forever - Clay was Melissa’s best friend younger brother and next door neighbour, who was still nursing his longtime crush on her. He returned from the military for the holidays and run into smoking hot Melissa, who was single. Melissa had decided to concentrate on her career and stay single after her broken engagement, but her friends and family felt it was time she got back on the dating horse. Rekindling their friendship and flirty banter between them takes them on a journey neither one of them expected to experience. The scenes depicting the sexual encounters will definitely make you need a change of underwear, but their budding romance, will make you realise that the success of a relationship is based on building a solid friendship first.
Each new book I read from Jenn Sable, solidifies how blown away I am by her writing style. She has a way of making you feel like you are watching the scenes unfold in a movie. I urge you to download this book, as it is a truly awesome read.
I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was given an ARC to post a genuine review about this book.
Simply put: I LOVED this book!!! It was the perfect mixture of warmth, sasyness, love, and understanding that some things are worth giving it your all. Clayton and Melissa are perfect for each other. One, actually seeing the other for the first time...the other finally deciding it was time to put it all on the line. Their banter was genuine, honest, transparent, spicy, and oh so yummy 😉. Their feelings oozed out of the pages and I loved that they were so relatable. It was like watching into the lives of your best friends. And lets not even talk about the other characters: the aunts (Leona and Eve) were amazing; the quintessential best friends of the main characters (Scott and Tess) were the perfect combination of up in your face, mixed with I want the best for you always. I cannot wait for their story to unfold!
Her Plus One by Jenn Sable gave me all the feels!!! Read it in one sitting. It makes you believe in the power of love and the magic of the holidays! Just what we need in this crazy times!!! ENJOY!!!
The first book in the Holiday Series was smash on point. Clayton has had a crush on the girl next door since she moved in next door with her mother in middle school. Melissa and her mother moved in with her aunt, when the mother's health started to decline. Problem was Melissa only saw Clay as her best friend's younger brother, he was in hopes of changing all of that this holiday season. His sister had married and now lived in Scotland, but his parents still lived next door to Melissa's aunts. Clay was home on leave from the Department of Defense in Alaska until after the holidays. He was going to try and make his case with Melissa before he returned to Alaska for four years. He needed to get her to fall in love with him and find a new job all in a very short time. He knew Melissa was attracted to him, but did she love him? There was a little bit of everything in this book. There was humor, plenty of sex, an old rock star, a politician full of himself, and best friends from forever. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Clay and Melissa grew up together. They were neighbors since they were little and Melissa was Clay's older sister's best friend. He always had a crush on her. Now, years later, he is returning home after being away in the military. He's older and more filled out. Melissa is still getting over a bad relationship where she was getting married and walked in on her fiancee having relations with another woman.
Here it is two years later, when Clay comes over and surprises Melissa. Both are shocked at how the other looks. Melissa is more beautiful than ever and Clay is now all man! Melissa is starting a new job as a photographer for an up and coming magazine. She is asked to photograph her ex who is the new mayor for their city. She agrees to do it but Clay wants to go with her to keep her ex at bay.
Clay has definite adult feelings Melissa and she is surprised by hers. Love how these two come together! So much suppressed love. The families and friends are a hoot!! Great characters too including an ex rock and roll star. Enjoy!
Clayton comes home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and decides to go see the one person who he has been crushing on since he was 12. Melissa broke her engagement off from her cheating fiancee 2 years ago but hasn't gone out on any dates since as she can't get herself over the deceit of her ex. Along comes Clayton who she hasn't seen in a few years. The first time she sees him it causes her to have feelings which scare her, but she doesn't let them hold her back and her and clay get serious quickly. He didn't get a job at home so he has to go back to Alaska for work or so he thought, until someone gave him some advice about love and whether he wants it or not. He goes back to repair things with melissa and also gets a job as well. They get married a while later and by the next xmas they r expecting there first child.

A very sweet and sexy romance about the boy who grows up and finally gets a chance with the girl next door. Clayton McCade always had feelings for Melissa Monroe, but she only saw him as her friends’ younger brother. He has returned home from his army base in Alaska and has hopes that Melissa will see him as the man he has become. Melissa has moved on from her “almost marriage” and has taken a job as the portrait photographer for Socialite magazine. When Cade stops by her home, she is surprised by her feelings for him and the fact that he is flirting with her. Their back and forth sensual innuendos spark an attraction between them that leads to their first night together. Will it be more than a one-night fling? A fun and altogether enjoyable read. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
This is a sweet romance about finding love where you least expect and when you least expect it like all Jenn's books it is the characters and the people of the town that are the making of the story line you are soon drawn into their lives and before long they feel like friends
Melissa Monroe had her heart broken when her wedding fell through but she has picked herself up and is living life the only thing is she has decided that she has no intention of dating for quite a while. Clayton McCade has always had feelings for Melissa but she ahs never looked at him that way and he shipped out with the military Now he is home for leave over the Thanksgiving Christmas period and she is looking at him in a whole new way As they decide to have fun together Will it develop into so much more But can they have a future when he is about to l;eave again.
I love Jenn Sable's writing. She pulls the reader into the story and creates a connection between the reader and the characters. It is difficult to put the book down once you start reading it.
Clay was the "little brother" from next door who has always had a crush on Melissa. However, when Clay comes back to town from his job in Alaska he is not the scrawny kid from next door. He is a man with an amazing body. After Melissa caught her ex-fiance with another woman, she hasn't had any real attraction to anyone.
Sparks begin between the two even though Melissa fights it. Will she let her past experience keep her from falling for Clay? Will he go back to Alaska? Can their budding relationship withstand all that life offers? You will want to read the book to find out.

I love the holidays and having the opportunity to read an HEA that is focused during the holidays is wonderful. Jenn Sable is an excellent author, her books are a delight to read and I always look forward to the next one.
What would you do after a heart wrenching breakup? Melissa decided to allow herself to stop dating and stay away from guys. That is all fine and dandy until her friend Clay comes back to town. That is when you first notice the chemistry between the two. Her and Tess have a bucket list of things they want to do before they turned 30 and Clay was going to scratch off one of those items for Melissa. Of course, that is never how it works with these stories. Very good read, I strongly recommend reading this. You won’t be disappointed.
I loved reading this book, Her Plus One by Jenn Sable because it was such a great story about Clay and Melissa. Clay was home on break and was in love with Melissa since high school. He was in the military and was going to be gone for awhile. Melissa was a photographer and was recently getting over the breakup of her and her fiancé. I really wanted Clay and Melissa to get together and stay together. He was so good for her and to her. They had a very passionate and steamy time together. But what would happen when he went away again? What would happen to the both of them? They were falling hard for each other. I highly recommend reading this book. It was so good!!!!

Clayton, or Clay is the brother of Melissa's best friend. They grew up together and he is her next-door neighbour. He is also crushing on her and has been for a very, very long time but basically never went anywhere with it. He is home on leave from the Military just for the holidays and bumps into Melissa. Well meaning friends try to push her back into the dating scene after a nasty broken engagement which she has used to become very career focused. Her former friendship with Clay blooms into something more than friends but will they be able to stay the course or will it be a case of now the itch has been scratched there is nothing deeper to be found.
I have loved Jenn's books for some time now but I feel that this has been the best yet!
A plus one of a lifetime Her Plus One (Pine Haven Holiday Book 1) by Jenn Sable is a well written holiday novella that is super sweet, a little bit steamy and a whole lot satisfying. I adored everything about this book, especially the holiday novella aspect. The characters are really wonderful and I love how these two come together. There’s just something about the fall holidays that make everything super romantic and Cade is simply perfectly dreamy and made for Melissa. Overall, this holiday novella is wonderfully romantic and heartwarming with a sweet HEA ending promising more holiday romance to come. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily sharing my review.
Clay and Melissa's story will warm your heart, especially during the holidays. He was her best friend's younger brother and he always had a crush on her. He's all grown up now and a soldier. He comes home for the holidays and their paths cross again. A big spark is there and the chemistry is explosive. Will there be a HEA during the holidays? No spoiler here. This was a cute heartwarming story full of holiday cheer. The characters were likable and the story was well written. A quick fun read for the holidays. I read a free book via Bookfunnell and voluntarily chose to write a review.
4.5 Stars! Fantastic start to a new holiday themed series. Clay is the perfect book-boyfriend and totally adorable, besides him needing a little kick up the backside at some point! Melissa is just lovely and open to this new side of Clay after growing up together. This book is full of great side characters too that makes it a captivating, easy and funny read, like Mable she cracked me up with her blunt comments, the two aunts Eve and Leona and their potential love interests are a great addition and we get quite a prologue into the next couple for this series in Scott and Tess, can't wait to devour their story!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The two main characters were funny and sweet, but best of all, they have been friends most of their lives and the flow from friends, to lovers to a couple was so sweet. I loved the heat between Clay and Melissa. They had their speed bump, but the road to true love sure levelled out quickly enough. Overall this was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it to everyone who loves a happily ever after. I have to say Jenn Sable is fast becoming one of my many favourite authors. You won’t be disappointed when you read this book.

I really enjoyed Clay and Melissa’s story. It was so sweet and just what you need to read in time for the holidays. Clay has had a crush on his sister’s best friend Melissa since they were young and when he returns to his hometown to visit for the holidays, he sees her and realizes just how beautiful she is. Melissa hasn’t dated since she found her fiancé cheating on her 2 years ago. When Clay shows up at her aunt’s house to surprise her for her birthday, they soon realize how their friendship slowly turns into more. Jenn sure knows how to bring love to life and warm your heart. I am voluntarily leaving a review for the arc copy that I received.
Unfortunately, I found myself so distracted with the grammatical errors, missing words, or entire paragraphs that didn't make sense that I could not actually enjoy the story. I actually did some screen captures of a few that were so distracting that I had to share them with a friend to help me figure out what I was attempting to read. Beyond just the editing issue, this story had a major time jump that definitely would have been better served to have been part of the active story, rather than a retelling through later conversation or internal thought.
Sadly, this novel proved to be an overall disappointment.
Melissa's heart been broken by her cheating fiance (now ex). Clay's Melissa's neighbor since they were small and have always had a crush on her. He is in the military and just returned home before heading to Alaska. Melissa's friend encourages her to start "living" again. When she sees Clay now after he returned, he was all manly & there's an instant attraction, but will her heart be broken again if Clay leaves for Alaska?

This is such a cute story of the boy finally getting the girl. Clay has wanted Melissa for years but was only seen as the kid next door. But things has changed now. Home from the military for Thanksgiving, Clay decides to make his move. It's been two years since Melissa called off her engagement. She's focused on her career as a distraction from the heartbreak. Clay flirting with her wasn't what she expected but made her realized it's time to move forward and love again.

Melissa is turning 30. Two years ago she called off her wedding due to a cheating fiancée, Clay is home between government contracts in Alaska. They grew up next door to each other and he has had a crush on Melissa for almost twenty years. Jenn Sable has done a great job on this romance. Her characters are believable and the story is enjoyable.

This was a lovely romance. Best friends little brother comes home and he's all grown up. Melissa is getting ready to turn 30 and hasn't crossed off anything on her 20's bucket list. Can she loosen up and have a one night stand with her hot neighbor/best friend's brother? Can they enjoy what time they have together without falling for each other? This was a really good, steamy story with a HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is exactly what I needed in a Christmas story. Sweet Romance, not a whole lot of angst, characters you fall in love with and still hot and steamy!
Jenn did a fantastic job on her first Christmas book. I just loved the build to these two connecting like they should. It really developed their personalities and we got to know them better.
I can't wait to read the next installment. Something tells me it will be an exciting one!
Melissa is struggling to pick the pieces of her life after breaking up an engagement when Clay, the guy next door, comes back into her life decided to get her all to himself. This book is heartwarming and fun and even the secondary characters are lovable and witty. I loved the epilogue and their happily ever after.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this as an ARC Jenn Sable delivers another mouth watering read with Scott and Melissa's story. Childhood friends who have grown up and then some. Scott finally has his chance to get the girl he's always wanted but he has his work cut out for him since she's become a little jaded from a jerk of an ex. This gives all the feels plus the steamy heat Jenn is sure to include as these two grow closer and open their eyes to what is in front of them.
