Initially, I was zealously searching for information on the goddess Angerona (Diva Angerona), and I reached for this book because it contained a chapter devoted to her. To my great surprise, this wonderful collection of writings and lectures by Hendrik Wagenvoort—who passed away in 1976 to the land of the Muses and the gods—proved to be a true treasure. From the perspective of deepening expert knowledge of Roman religion, divine qualities and attributes, and subtle etymological nuances, this volume is exceptional.
Edepol! Mecastor! By Castor and Pollux, what a delightful, magnificent, and erudite read Wagenvoort has given us—one that clearly reflects his lifelong passion and devotion to the classics and the ancient world. I cannot recommend this book indiscriminately; without sufficient background, it could easily be misunderstood or fail to be appreciated fully. However, I wholeheartedly recommend it to readers who already possess some familiarity with the broader religious and intellectual structures of Greek and Roman antiquity. Such readers will be rewarded with a most graceful and satisfying experience.
