When a young attorney arrives on the Big Island with the goal of moving past her broken engagement and predictable life, a brooding but sexy man is not what she expected but is exactly what she needs.
Mia wants to move beyond the years of her life wasted in pleasing everyone else, except herself. She travels to Hawaii, where she can be alone--where she knows no one and no one knows her. But instead of the solitude she craves, she meets a handsome stranger with the uncanny ability to see the person she wants to be.
Love is for other people, or so Kekoa thinks. The Hawaiian surfer is no stranger to heartbreak or sacrifice. He’s all but given up on his dreams, resigned to live the life his deceased father had planned for him. And then, a curvy and dark-haired bundle of sunshine rents a room in his family’s inn and everything changes.
JESSICA JAYNE is a born and raised small-town Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college with an English degree. She attended law school and passed her bar exam on the very first attempt. She met the love of her life in a romance novel sort of way. They married and have three beautiful (and sometimes crazy) kids.
Jessica loves to travel and travel often! She’s jumped out of several perfectly good airplanes. When not watching her son isn't racing in a regatta or her daughters dominate the volleyball court, she watches Buckeye football and the Tampa Bay Lightning. She’s a wine-making (and wine-tasting with her girlfriends) aficionado. She loves all music. Thinks Eric Church is a rock star. Worships Jason Momoa. Believes Game of Thrones was the best show on television but lives by many Seinfeld-isms.
Reading Haven was my introduction to Jessica Jayne and her storytelling method. She told me a beautiful story of a young woman, Mia, that was not completely honest with herself or those that she loved so much. She had to have a fluke get her out of a marriage she truly did not want. She did things that would make others happy at a sacrifice to herself and her own desires.
Her road to making her life her own again all began when she made the concise decision to still go on her honeymoon without her ex-groom-to-be. The next step to her own desires was allowing more than smiles and glances to take place between her and Kekoa. Her next decision was allowing herself to fall in love with not only the island, the people, but the man that showed her so much. She did more than just open up and live. She had the chance to learn more about herself.
Kekoa and his family were bonus characters to meet along the way. This story for me was more about Mia. I loved this self-discovery and growth.
(audiobook) At first, I was a little thrown off by the speed at which Mia and Kekoa fall in love with each other. But once I accepted the instalove, I really enjoyed the cultural journey on which the author took me.
I have to admit that I didn’t get particularly attached to the characters. I can’t pinpoint what kept me from relating to them, but I suppose the quick instalove was part of the reason. There’s immediate attraction, resistance to said attraction, and giving into it, but there was little seduction and discovering each other–besides the big dramas that threaten their relationship–before becoming an item.
The setting though! I travelled with Mia and visited Hawaii with her. Language, food, places, traditions… You’ll get a bit of everything to have a good sense of the haven from the title. What’s even better is that it isn’t the only culture described in the book. Both characters are of mixed heritage, so there’s some Italian and some Serbian too thrown in the mix.
The family relationships–with parents and siblings–were actually interesting and maybe more developped than the romance itself. Friendship, rivalry, support, pressure… There was a little bit of everything.
The narrators were perfect. They offered a good pace to tell the story without getting boring, while still giving time to enjoy the exotic journey. The energy was good. I really enjoyed this book.

In ‘Haven’ we meet Mia, a young attorney who has just broken off her engagement to her best friend after he cheated on her. To escape him and the life she never really wanted, she goes on vacation to Hawaii. Her family didn’t really want Mia to go so far alone, but Mia wanted the peace and beauty of the island. What she didn’t expect was to meet Kekoa, an Hawaiian surfer who shows her there is much more joy in life than she thought possible.
‘Haven’ is definitely a sweet romantic read that pulled me in right from the start. The writing is easy to follow, and the setting of Hawaii definitely gave this book a little extra. I loved getting to know both Mia and Kekoa. They are both totally different, with totally different lives and I enjoyed reading about them. I loved how Mia left everything behind to give herself a little time to really find herself. She brought her camera, so she could try making more photo’s. Something she loves to do, but never got too. And I loved how passionate Kekoa was even though he was a little lost in the beginning.
The romance between Mia and Kekoa was very instant. And I think this book would have been even better if the author gave Mia and Kekoa a little more time to develop their relationship. Now they had only this week together, and bam they had true love. It’s not that I don’t believe in love at first sight, but I just don’t believe people feel so intensely in so little time. But the story and the characters where fun and interesting enough that I could forget that part.
What I also enjoyed in this book was that both Mia and Kekoa had these different heritages next to being American. It gave this book something extra I really enjoyed. I also learned a few new words, so that’s always fun. Ow.. And I totally pictured Jason Momoa as Kekoa. LOL!!
Overall, ‘Haven’ was a fun, romantic read that I read in a day. It was definitely a great read for a cozy cold night on the couch.

Mia is this really self aware young attorney who recently realized she wasted quite a bit of her life on a relationship that fell apart and didn’t really leave her feeling any heart ache at all. This brought up the fact that she might need to do some soul searching to try and discover what she really wants to do with her life.
What better place to do this than in Hawaii.
Enter Ke. As Mia describes him – a poseidon – a Jason Momoa look alike. Just take a second and picture it.
Obviously really HOT. Obviously really aware of it. Sometimes a bit of a douche but really just cos he has to hide his soft and feely bits – of which he has loads.
Two of them instantly hit it off. Queue big fireworks and really well written chemistry. The two of them has so much chemistry it is legit like jumping off the page and smacking you right in the face.
I loved this book. It was a really nice fluffy romance with just enough oomph in it to keep it interesting and getting me to climb back into the book.
As someone who has never been to Hawaii – the author really created a very colorful world for me to climb into. Reading this book was like a little vacation. If I closed my eyes for a few minutes I could almost feel the cooling breeze blowing in from the ocean and cooling my really hot body as Mr Momoa massages all the naughty bits.
This is definitely my favorite book by this author so far. It is a wonderful story. The setting is so well described, I felt like I was in Hawaii too. I love the connection Mia & Kekoa have throughout the story. I could feel their instant attraction, and totally pictured Jason Momoa through the whole book, lol. The author even had me on the edge of my seat over Mia and Kekoa's relationship. So grab your cozy blanket, a glass of wine & curl up with this book. Let the warmth of Hawaii and steamy scenes heat up your winter night.
Mia has just broken off her engagement from her lifetime best friend and travels to Hawaii to take some time for herself. She needs to regroup, refocus, and spend some time figuring out what, exactly she wants for herself and her life.
Kekoa and his brother live on the Kona Coffee and Inn property which they help their mother run. After a not-so-welcoming first encounter, Kekoa and Mia hit it off. He vows to show her everything there is to see on the island. Slowly, he begins opening Mia up to a world just outside her comfort zone and it isn't long until the two express their undeniable feelings for one another.
But when Mia's fiancé Vuk arrives on the island full of remorse, he threatens to bring a crashing halt to the weeklong romance that has developed. Past relationships and long distance threaten to break the couple apart and readers are left with the happy reminder that love endures despite our own poor judgement along the way.

This was a sweet, fluffy, and definitely insta-love romance story. Mia has just broken up her engagement with her best friend after finding he cheated on her. Kekoa knows about heartache and sacrifice and although he is a total hotty he is not interested in opening his heart again. A well-written story with self-discovery and growth.
