Mankind's last stand against the machines begins - now.
The machines collapsed society with blinding speed, hunting mankind to the edge of extinction. Yet Junior, a young robotics expert, has managed to survive on his island in the Pacific Northwest. He's leveraged his extensive combat experience to learn even more about the tireless enemies that stalk him. He's ready to escalate the battle - and now he and the hardened soldier Brick have allies.
After the fall of the Pentagon and its secondary facility at Mount Weather, a small team managed to escape on an aging gunship to Junior’s island. Their expertise is vital - Dr. Harper Shin wrote the book on robiomechanics, and the two commandos accompanying her are armed to the teeth with the latest military technology.
They'll need all the firepower they can muster, because the machines have altered their tactics to finish what they started. But even if the survivors can stand strong and win the day - will victory be worth the price?

This is a sad day for me. J.L. Bourne used to be my favorite (or one of) writer. I LOVE Day by Day Armageddon and Tomorrow War was just about as good! These Trilobyte books are not good in my opinion. Mr. Bourne is the master of technical description, he makes you feel like an operator when he's describing his loadout ala Call of Duty. He's still doing that here but with some crazy sci-fi tech that doesn't exist of course and it all falls apart for me. What you are left with is a vague feeling of the good guys patriotism and a insurmountable enemy that does not feel like being in the military anymore but more like Halo or something.
I also won't lie that J.L. Bourne's politics bug me a bit, I know I should let the art be but I really liked J.L. Bourne when all I knew was that he was a Navy guy and gun nut. Now he's taken on a political flavor and I can't get behind him like I used to. That's on me I suppose....but I'm being honest so if that makes you write off my review good for you.
Was amazed by the ending. The quality of writing suffers here and there, but generally a really good romp. Some swearing, but again, more character-centered, so it's at least somewhat logical.
