Miss Impossible: A Hilarious Middle Grade Book for Kids (Ages 10-12) - Babysitting Your Archnemesis

Rate this book
Babysitting? More like bully-sitting, when Malia, Dot, and Bree get a much older—and scarier—client than they expected. But looks can be deceiving in this LOL-worthy third book in the Best Babysitters Ever series, perfect for fans of Rachel Vail and Sarah Mlynowski.

Malia, Dot, and Bree are psyched to land their highest paying job yet—until they get to the house and realize they’re babysitting Zelda Hooper, Bree and Malia’s archnemesis since preschool. not just for babies, apparently. And it’s too much money to walk away from . . . so at least there are no diapers?

But all of the babysitting in the world couldn’t prepare the girls for their unusual new charge, and even though Zelda should be the one who’s embarrassed that three girls her age are getting paid to babysit her, she relishes the chance to tease them on her home turf. Is she really evil or just misunderstood?

This hilarious third installment in the Best Babysitters Ever series brings back all the characters you love, and love to hate—reminding us that friendship trumps all. Even dirty diapers.

Keeping a babysitting business afloat continues to challenge Malia, Bree, and Dot in this third installment. What to do with a French family with three girls who make dream au pairs, a client who is their own age and an expert prankster, imperiled salamanders, and three little boys who revel in wreaking havoc on the world? Then there's Malia's older sister contributing in her own way. The three babysitters put their heads together and work hard to find solutions with humorous happenings along the way. Veronica (the Cat) and Veronica (the person) also return from Book 2. This series is worth handing to middle grade readers who like series and realistic fiction.

Thank you to HMH Books and NetGalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I can clearly see the struggle in the writing after twenty percent. I feel that the series could have been perfect with just two books.

‘I love you more then dinosaurs, more then dino-dino- dinosaurs, I will give you all my roars, more than big Tyrannosaurus.’ -Actual song sung by this story’s fictional pop star.

This is the last book in the series!! Or, at the very least, the last book in the series for now . Did I enjoy the book? Yes, in ways, but there was a lot- and I mean a lot that could’ve been done to make this book better. I’m going to include spoilers, so please, read at your own risk!
Okay, so first off, let’s talk about how they continued the story from the last book. Last time we saw them cut off the extra babysitters, Bree got a cat, Maila became an intern, and the girls went to the concert of the pop star Veronica. This book mentions the cat Veronica and the singer Veronica, so that stayed relevant, and Maila’s internship is over, but besides a brief mention, we don’t see any of the extra babysitters again. And honestly, this made me sad!! Broody had such a sad story, and we’re just leaving it that way? I didn’t like this.
Now, this book focuses on a few themes- the girls babysitting a bully their age, Zelda, three troublesome boys, the girls trying to save salamanders who they discover migrate via their roads every year, and the weakest plot of them all- the French babysitters. Let’s break them down one by one.
Them babysitting Zelda was, by far, my favorite subplot. Zelda’s antics were over the top and for sure unrealistic, but mostly entertaining nonetheless. Once they weren’t babysitting her anymore, it was less fun, though. I did like that they end up forgiving her and letting her into a club, as this was a change of pace compared how the girls tend to handle issues. But the fact that her mom hired the girls as a friend for Zelda is kind of wild?
Next, the troublesome brothers. They are all crazy, loud menaces, besides Chase, who honestly seemed to be a much sweeter kid (at least sometimes? But not always) The children were very crazy and chaotic, and the way they tamed them by claiming Zelda was a ‘witch’ didn’t amuse me.
As for the salamanders… overall, I enjoyed this! Maybe I’m just an animal-loving sap, but I was happy to see them saving animals lives. Bree’s team up with Maila’s older sister was a surprise to me, I thought Chelsea would try and go solo (it was dead obvious she was interested in saving the salamanders, I just didn’t expect it to be done the way it was.) I cringed with how she betrayed Bree though… why is she such an unrealistic over the top villain? And at the end when she talks about how perfect she is but how she’s jealous of Bree’s friendship… that sounded so fake.
Lastly, let’s talk about the French babysitters. And man.. did I EVER dislike this plot point! Everything was wrong with it! The way they are all like clones, the way Dot’s narration sounds the same as when she was talking about Pigeon when she thinks of these girls, the way they act so perfect, and also so bitter and mean and over the top unrealistic, and how they get ‘taken down’ by Zelda, as a prank at first, but then it is discovered that their bakery is violating health codes, because, of course. (at least it wasn’t the main babysitters taking them down in spite, but man.) It was just so unbelievable.
Also, for a moment, I just want to thank the writer for not including Dot’s mom much. She is mentioned a few times, but hardly shows up. I deeply dislike her so I was happy about this.
And as for how the story all wraps up- well, let’s put it this way. The biggest pop star on the planet comes to their lizard saving event and performs two songs. For free. Because… of course she does!! I mean, they could’ve tried to make it at the very least a little more real? Like she just shares a post about it online or something? But, nobody ever said this series was realistic. I knew that from day one, because none of the main cast is written realistically at all, so I shouldn’t expect the story to follow a different path.

I wonder, if maybe, I’m being a little harsh on the book. I still read it, and didn’t really consider quitting the book. I just saw a lot of the issues present. Honestly I almost want to give it worse than 3 stars, but I won’t. That’s where it will stay. I hope my review proves useful!

(This book contains a lot of revenge, and bitterness, and bullying, some from the main cast. It also contains mild language, some lizard deaths, some already dead and some get hit, and little boys who are very dark and like to talk about violent and morbid things, like the Grim Reaper and they discus what color lizard guts are while trying to kill one (the attempt is failed) Dot’s mother is into witchcraft, and the mention of her resting tarot cards happens twice. One of the girls clients are two married women. I would give this book an age rating of 11+!)

This book is about 3 girls Bree, dot and malia (love the names by the way) they had a babysitting business which was going great until they found out they had to babysit Zelda who was there age Zelda was mean at first but then she became nice and asked the girls to help her pick out a dress but ended up trapping the girls in a closet with a camera and Conner saw the video (malias crush) Zelda then countinued to fool them by making them ruin all her moms stuff so that when zeldas mom found out the girls would get fired. Then after all that the au pairs came in and took over their babysitting business so almost everyone the girls babysitted hired the au pairs because apparently there kids needed to learn more French and stuff or whatever. Dot had to then start babysitting the 3 Morris boys which was a nightmare for dot. But Bree in the other hand wanted to save e salamanders because at night salamanders, cross the road very slowly so cars run over them and kill them so Bree teamed up with malias older sister Chelsea and worked on saving the salamanders. Malia I guess just countinued to babysit Zelda and also really wanted dinner to notice her and when he did they went on a “date” together. For dot things is. For dot things got worse because the Morris boys were just to much for dot so Zelda tried to help her and actually was pretty good after all though she still continued being bad towards dot. For Bree and Chelsea they needed to raise lots of money to build a bridge for the salamanders because that was the only thing they could do so Bree thought of putting together a carnival kinda of on the school ground where Veronica (her idol) would come and perform and help her save the salamanders but one day Chelsea came on the news and apparently she took credit for all of brees ideas and Chelsea got all the attention even though this was all brees idea malia had also warned Bree about Chelsea and she could do anything bad at any moment. I guess Zelda was feeling very bad for what she did and went on tv and pretended a salamander stepped on her bread. The au pairs parents owned a bakery by the way so it was their bakery. And so their bakery got shut down and the au pairs had to live with there parents and take their business somewhere else. And Zelda also exposed Chelsea and told the truth that this #savethesalamanders was all brees idea. Basically brees idea went well and they raised enough money for the bridge and Veronica even showed up and sang on stage. Zelda really saved their business lol. Zelda also said sorry for everything she did that she was just embarrassed that 3 girls her age were babysitting her and that she was just feeling lonely. But yeah the girls let Zelda join their business because Zelda was really good at handling kids. The salamanders were saved, Zelda was nice now and didn’t need no more babysitting (because she’s 13) malia was happy with Conner, and dot didn’t have to bare with the Morris boys anymore. That was pretty much it (sorry I’m very bad at explaining stuff.) but what else could go better?

I loved how the Beginning and middle part was just such a ruckus mad at the end everything turned out to be good and it was a very happy ending. But yeah I really recommend this book it’s very very fun to read!

Now this book was fine, well good the reason I gave it a 3/5 was because I was a 12 yr old reading a book for 10 yr old kids. So it was for a younger audience not that cool or interesting for pre-teens, for 10-year-old me it would be perfect. It follows babysitters who have to babysit and a rebellious different girl that is very prone to explore and her younger sister. They don't like her she doesn't like them lots of drama I wanted to just stop and make the book a DNF (did not finish) but I pushed through because my dad got it for me and I wanted to show him that I was grateful. I also got the book because I thought it would be closely related to the babysitters club in a way yes with the drama but not exactly.

This book overall was pretty good but I just lost interest in it and by the end I was practically slipping all the pages. Would recommend to people who are in 3rd or 4th grade.

I liked how Bree became obsessed with the salamanders although I feel that the French sisters making a business was too similar to the first book.
