As usual good fun. Still a little uncomfortable with the level of Tom's dishonesty in this and luckily everything falling into place for good in the end. Admittedly maybe over analysing for a kids book, but perhaps not the best message to be putting out there.

Yes, I am a sucker for the Tom Gates series and have been since it first started. (The child in me maybe, and wishing that Liz Pichon had created this series when I was growing up). Book 17 does not disappoint and maintains the high standard of this series. Look out for the cameo appearance of the author somewhere in this book. Now off to Aldi for some Caramel Wafers, though I do also like the Fig Rolls too. Recommended.

I love the Tom Gates series (even though it's a very easy read). It's a nice break from the books with a clear moral, and I know 'all books have a moral' but with this book I guess I didn't really have to think about it.

Meine Meinung

Was will man mehr?! Absolute Leseempfehlung!

While having a 11-year-old niece is a blessed advantage, being in constant touch with an eleven-year-old niece who is an inveterate book worm, is a boon! Over the past few days, Annika has made it her objective to introduce me to a phalanx of some compelling children’s books penned by ingenious authors. For a reader whose concept of books for kids has not crossed the periphery of Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, Dr. Seuss and C.S.Lewis, this has been a period of revelation!

The latest addition to my burgeoning enlightenment has been Liz Pichon and her hilarious Tom Gates series. Tom Gates Spectacular School Trip (Really). The really within parenthesis, I assure you is not made-up stuff. Tom Gates, a bundle of creative energy is in Class 5F of the Oakfield School. A part of the school rock band Dogzombies, along with Norman and Derek, Tom when at class is sandwiched between the extraordinarily benevolent and magnanimous Amy, and the perpetually irritating and sadistic, Marcus. Tom also has this incredible proclivity to get on the wrong side of luck. Whether it be getting his homework chewed away by Rooster, an egregious dog, or inadvertently giving his Mum’s vintage dress a ‘doodle’ image, Tom always finds himself at the short end of his teacher, Mr. Fuller’s stick. Having already accumulated 3 ‘sad faces’, Tom is just one sad face away from not being on the school excursion bus to a biscuit factory.

To add to a cascading litany of woes, Tom’s Dad takes Tom, Amy and Derek to what he thinks is the school’s new ‘Doodle Wall’ only to realise upon hindsight that the children have liberally heaped graffiti on a private wall. One of the images being a distorted and unenviable image of Delia, Tom’s stern sister.

Would these lapses lead to Tom being omitted from the school excursion? Is there any way Tom can ‘atone’ for his misadventures, if not misdeeds, and redeem himself? The 2012 winner of the Best Book for Younger Readers Red House Children’s Book Award, , Liz Pinchon does a capital job with the plot, narrative and sequence. Tom Gates is equally endearing and enervating. With a bunch of effervescent and egregious friends, every day in Gates’ young life is a life of mystery, mystique and mischief.

Tom Gates Spectacular School Trip (Really) – a trip of pure joy – no parenthesis needed!

HELLO
Currently read this book called as TOM GATES - SPECTACULAR SCHOOL TRIP! [REALLY...] BY LIZ PICHON. Saw this book in my library and without even thinking , I picked it up !!!! Just because I cannot resist when I see a TOM GATES BOOK...
If you are new to TOM GATES and thinking whether or not to read this series, YOU SHOULD!!!!! If you are a 8-13 year old kid, [doesn't matter if you're a girl or a boy] you will be interested in TOM GATES.
Tom is a school going boy who has a lot of struggles with his big-eyed teacher called as mister fullerman. This book of Tom gates has sooooooo many things in it. Tom desperately WANTS to go to the DOODLE WALL on the road called as DOODLE ROAD. Now, what can go wrong in this thing ?? The answer is everything !!!!!! With Tom's grandparents getting married again to the question, CAN I GO TO THE SCHOOL TRIP ?? There's NOTHING that a school grader won't underestand.
You can get this SPECTACULAR book in your library or the bookstore or simply order it. Or if you're a online books reading lover, then you can surely get this book on the app called as AMAZON KINDLE...

I loved it :D

This was the first Tom Gates book I read... although it would've made more sense if I'd read the first Tom Gates book. But anyways.

The story was so funny, and really easy to read. I felt happy for Tom when his doodles got on the biscuit packets (although he is just a fictional character). It was also interesting to see who was coming to see Delia (Tom's big sister) and why. It was funny when Marcus started to sing the biscuit song. And Tom's biscuit song (for his homework) was even better!

There are SO many pictures; there is not a single page without a picture. It made the pages look fun and nice to look at. The pictures are simple but really cool.

I loved this book. Would recommend to... well, anyone, like 7-12 years old (and doesn't matter if you are a boy or girl) and if you like anything funny. :)

If I get ONE MORE sad face on the class achievement chart there'll be NO SCHOOL TRIP for me. Marcus isn't helping (as usual). The Fossils are getting married (again). Delia's furious about something, Mum's gone all 1970s, and Dad's got a novelty car. And my doodling keeps getting me in trouble. WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG? (lots)

Mrs. Pichon
I have only read 2 of your books and now you're my biggest fan. I am 8 years old and I love reading your type of books. You and Mr. Jeff Kinney are both my favorites. I like your writing genre.

Best book in series

This book is very interesting. I read it in less than a day, Tom think's that his school is going to a museum for the trip, BUT he is going to a biscuit factory. Will Tom be able to stay out of trouble?? Maybe, maybe not actually why don't you read the book instead of me telling you the story (Plus my name is Rishi and I am 8 years old)

I liked this book because I agree with Tom Gates because Marcus is annoying. I liked how Tom Gates was naughty but then he stopped and behaved really well. It was very funny, especially when Marcus started singing the biscuit song.
