Even though this is a 1996 edition, I find that it remains useful for the non-specialist. Having said that, I think it very helpful if the user has at least a passing acquaintance with (ever-changing) national accounting standards; which lend the framework of understanding into which financial ratios provide a representation (not a reality) of what is happening in a business. Events in 2008 provided a graphic illustration of that. Accountancy is best considered a 'black art'. It is very far from being a science, and never can be.
My major annoyance with this edition resides in the niggle that despite it being the first published in Britain, neither the author nor any editor has seen fit to change dollars for pounds sterling! More expert and experienced eyes than mine would be needed to pick up any other omissions in translation.
Much has changed in running a business today. I found this book to be a bit out of touch with today's challenges. Still, it is an excellent reference source.
