Lock In #0.5-2

Rate this book

Boy oh boy, what an insanely addictive read! This is by far one of my favorite works by John Scalzi. compared to the other books that I have read that are more akin to satirical science fiction. This was a cyberpunk police procedural techno thriller and that combination is absolutely my cup of tea. While the two main books only share the FBI Duo And some supportive characters, each book stands on its own being set in the same world And the novella acts as a oral history of the Hayden's syndrome, which is the fictionalized virus that John Scalzi creates as an origin backdrop for the World building that these books take place in. A very realistic and scary and yet believable take on a near futuristic world That I couldn't help but be enthralled by. I have no idea if John Scalzi plans on making more books in this world but if so I will definitely be reading whatever is next. these are very fast reads that hook you from the beginning At 300 pages each and a novella that's only 75 pages long, definitely worth reading.

Great reading, love the world its set in. For my personal taste it could have been a bit more dystopian and dark, like altered carbon. But still a great story. I read the last book of the bundle first to get a grip on world and circumstances its set in. Not a necessity but if you read the books in the order they are in the bundle the last book will not be as interesting, at least i would feel that way since you basically know everything already.

The Lock In books overcome pedestrian plots and stock characters thanks to truly original and unsettlingly plausible world-building.

I already rated Lock In as 5 stars, listening to the Audible version. Head On was another excellent detective story in the world Scalzi created, with the two FBI agents pursuing various leads. Unlocked is a relatively short "history" of the Locked In virus and its effect on the world, as "told" by various doctors, politicians, etc. It was interesting and well done. Great series, I hope Scalzi comes back and writes more.
Oh, and I re-read the first book and it was still great.

Interesting

I like how it was laid out, but it did have sort of a Perry Mason feel to it. Over all I would be curious to see more stories told from this universe.

Fantastic

Hits a little different in 2022. Once more I point to John Scalzi's strong women characters. I love that about his books.
