I Am A Hitman

Rate this book
This is my account of life as a hitman from someone who has been doing it for years.

Hitmen commit heinous crimes virtually every day of the week and, in most instances, we don't even realise.

I've been a killer for hire for more than twenty years now, but life as a fulltime professional assassin has never been easy.

There have been close calls, failed attempts and a lot of looking over my shoulder.

And now, I've decided to come clean and seek atonement for my life as a murderer and one of the most covertly dangerous men alive.

This is an account of a life lived between our world and a shadowy underworld of criminals... a life lived under the radar of the law... a life lived in death.

This is the story of my life as a hitman.

I feel like I’ve completed a service to the public on completing this book. I’ve suffered through it so you don’t have to.

Don’t.
Just... be kind to yourself, and don’t bother.

It’s poorly written, at times eyebrow-raisingly unbelievable and other times actually reaches laugh-out-loud levels of incredulity. I don’t like fantasy as a genre, but feel I’ve been duped into reading a fantasy novel by suffering through this one.

Dear me. It was poor.

Well I haven’t finished this book as I can’t bring myself to waste any more hours of my life to finish it. An absolute load of twaddle. Had to laugh when the author described checking to see if somebody was dead by going into the hospital mortuary - I have worked in hospitals all of my adult life and they are not only hard to find but highly secure and inaccessible to the public. The methods described for hits were also laughable, I wondered whether it was supposed to be comedy rather than a biographical book! Absolute rubbish, the author has an active imagination, and probably gleaned his inspiration from watching bad movies. Annoyed that I wasted £4 buying this crap.

I enjoyed this book - definitely a page turner for me.
It's a bit of a 'light' read (although the subject matter isn't!), and probably the shortest book I've read for some time.

The story is allegedly a true one, and this is impossible to verify, as the author states he's changed so many of the specifics that it would be impossible for a potential enemy to use the book to track him down - this is also possibly a clever way to write a work of fiction and sell it as fact - but either way it was an enjoyable read.

I liked that there are a few threads to the book - firstly the memoirs of a contract killer, as it says on the tin - but also the story of a man with a difficult family background struggling to come to terms with who he is, and also the story of a couple who obviously care deeply for one another, but find it difficult to find trust in their relationship.

I did enjoy the book, despite it being very vague about the details of the actual contract assassinations (because of course that's what grabs the attention when you see it on the shelves in Tesco), because it was well written, fast paced, and has a feeling of honesty about it.
I would like to believe it's a true story, but even if it isn't, it's definitely worth the time it takes to read it.

This interesting book manages to avoid being excessively gory or corny (no 007-type nonsense here), and even though the author clearly did some pretty nasty stuff during his career I almost felt sympathetic to him because of the strange upbringing he had. It would be very easy to say that the author made it all up, but the frankness of his descriptions of events removes any sense that it is exaggerated or fictitious, and has got me wondering just how much this kind of thing goes on without us knowing....

Whoever the ghostwriter was: you deserve a round of applause. The execution is impeccable. The book is written with such precision and clarity, and also such insight into the psyche, that I couldn't stop marvelling at it. The narrator makes a heavy, convoluted life story digestible and easy to follow, while never losing touch with the emotional side of the protagonist.

The subject matter is also eye-opening. It turns out that hits are carried out rather frequently in higher circles. I can't say that I am surprised. But his accounts of his own murders are haunting in their simplicity and intelligence. I will never forget some of the lines in this book

Solid 5 starts. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The Hitman- Anonymous

On the look out for a second career I’m definitely a fan of ‘occupational’ books….prison nurse, war doctor, paramedic memoirs, the secret barrister ...... for an idea of what the job entails and whether I can be arsed re-training…so naturally this book caught my attention as a career option.

Now my knowledge of Hitmen and what the job entails is abit patchy..( Bourne identity is my limit) but my review of this book is ...’it’s just ok’, not great ...it passes a few hours ...Truthfully I’m scared to be too harsh just in case there’s a hit placed on me…so I’ll sit on the fence for safety.

It’s a story of someone (we don’t know who of course) with a military background and a backdrop of a sad and lonely childhood who ends up killing people for a living. As you do. But….I think it’s poorly written, there’s no gore and I love gore , no insider details and I just felt someone had made this story up in lockdown to earn a few quid. But maybe they didn’t.

What I did learn though…(if to be believed) ….is that you’re more likely to be killed by a Hitman if you live in Kent and on a Tuesday ( as people stick to their routines more on a Tuesday than any other days the week ) and you need to have seriously pissed someone off who has a lot of money as Hitmen don’t come cheap. But as gardens kill more people every year than your average Hitman your chances of being bumped off are far greater with a hover mower.

In summary, I won’t be moving to Kent, I’ll drastically change my routine on a Tuesday and I’m doing sod all in the garden.

This is listed as non-fiction, but I point-blank (get it?) refuse to believe that. It's a good book, but I'm 99% sure it's all fictional.

A fun and easy read. The main character is interesting not only because of his life's story but because of his deep introspective nature and attention to details, which helps to paint a vivid image. Being from Brazil myself, this character’s ties there and his short time spent in Brazil seemed very genuine and kept me reading. His early years are well explored, but not to the point of overkill.

Regarding his life of crime, sometimes the coincidences are too strong to just brush aside and you’re left wondering how much of this is true. You get the feeling that any detective with a serious desire to find this person could do so, since there are so many personal clues to who this man could be, but it’s wise to assume some of the details were changed for that reason.

I think the cover and the title are a bit misleading. It makes you think of Goodfellas or The Departed, but it has nothing to do with that world. To be fair to the writer, he admits this much during the prologue. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in crime stories and wants to take a peek behind the scenes of the “real underworld” that this man worked in.

This was alright.

It’s advertised as a true story, and who knows, it very well might be - but unfortunately to me it was a bit too fantastical to believe.

Some parts really irked me - such as calling his accomplice H (gave me real James Bond vibes which isn’t great for something that is trying to convince me it’s a true story). Some of the lines were also super corny (a key example is when he mentioned how “the movies didn’t lie to you”. Please just stop.)

However, if you read this like a fiction, it’s not too bad. It’s not grisly and graphic and recounts with an eerily detached nature about some of the hits carried out by the protagonist, his childhood, and his ongoing problems with his wife, who plays a key role in the story.

Although at many points I was rolling my eyes, I still didn’t want to abandon it and did see it through til the end, because parts were interesting and well written.

Overall I’d give this 2 stars. Would recommend if you’re into this kind of thing but am far too cynical to put this book into my ‘memoir’ bookshelf and instead opted for ‘fiction’...

I am not one for reading autobiographies, this is the 3rd one I have ever read!

This book is intriguing, and although not what I thought it was going to be. I would recommend this book, although the subject matter is hard going, it is written in such a way that it is easy for you to understand and also see how this happened!

I don’t know that I would ever read it again but glad that I read it!

Honestly, I don't get all the negative reviews because it wasn't a bad book at all. Regardless of whether you believe it is real or not, it encourages speculation about what life for a hitman is actually like. Now, idk whether I'm just a weirdo but I find that really entertaining 😅

Ultimately, it's written well, if a little boring in places (which is impressive given the subject matter!) but I did find the story of his life around the killings interesting, too. Plus the descriptions of people and places were really immersive and well written. So, not bad, all in all!

It really makes you wonder how many accidental deaths are actually hits! Unbelievable how someone can go about these things as if it was a normal thing to do. Chilling read.

4.25 stars (unfortunately I can't go into decimal places on this app). Really interesting book into being the criminal underworld of being a hitman. Book is very simply written, much like if I were to write a book, it certainly wasn't heavily ghost written. Due to this it certainly pulls you in as you become quite attached to the author. The overall storyline is about being a hitman, how he got into it, how it impacted his marriage and trying to escape being a hitman. Certainly worth a read for the more curious readers out there.

What an intriguing concept for a book! With every account based on true events, it was certainly an interesting read. Stories, experiences and ‘hits’ told from the hitmans mouth himself, with names, locations and identifying features removed to protect his identity as well as those of his victims.

From the outset, its discouraging those wanting to follow in his footsteps or use this as a ‘manual’. There’s no gory, blow by blow retelling (if you’re expecting this, you’ve come to the wrong book), but instead, is a recounting and retelling of his life and those he’s killed (which is done with a surprising amount of sensitivity).

He starts at the beginning, with his childhood, his relationship from his father, how he got to where he ended up. His personality and how it lead to his occupation. His life was honestly like a soap opera and something you really would expect to see on TV. Some things did seem a little unrealistic at times, like just walking into an unstaffed morgue to see the body of a man killed from a hit? I wouldn’t have thought it would have been that easy to walk straight into a morgue, given the security of these places, but then again, I’m not hitman.

I was intrigued though, right from the get go. The title drew me in and I needed to satisfy the morbid curiosity of this hidden world. It was an entertaining book, and interesting to listen to, but weirdly didn’t hit the mark (no pun intended) as much as I thought it would. I still enjoyed it, and I’m glad I listened to it (I had the audiobook) but I can’t quite put my finger on it!

Such an insight into the authors mind, and it was interesting on that front. I liked how it was written and it was well recounted. Not too bad all in all.

Very easy read although a tough topic

Due to the book being changed so nothing can be traced to the “hitman” it makes you wondering if anything is true. Leave you with little interest

I did enjoy the book and appreciate the Story telling although it would be a good way to sell a book saying it’s all real

Could of done without the self help chapter at the end comparing normal challenges to the “hit mans”

Been listening on Spotify as an audiobook for ages now and it’s terrible and definitely not a real story but was so easy to get back into after not listening that I kept forgetting how bad it was 🙃 im sorry if it’s true but he just had like every stereotype that it felt so unbelievable

When most people think of the term "hitman," they likely imagine stereotypical characters depicted in popular media like movies and video games. Consequently, many people's understanding of hitmen is entirely shaped by fiction.

Therefore, I am not surprised by the book's negative reviews claiming that the story is fake. It is understandable that some individuals simply cannot comprehend that such an occupation could exist in the real world.

The anonymity of the author does not serve as evidence that the story is fake. Obviously, the author had to anonymize details for their own protection.

In the book, the author walks us through their entire career as a hitman, providing as much detail as possible for each assignment without compromising their identity. He also delves into his upbringing and personal life, offering insights into the complexities of leading a double life.

The book is an extremely captivating read. It's an eye-opener to the extent of the criminal activities that go on around us every day, unbeknownst to us as we go about our ordinary daily lives.

This book left me with some mixed feelings. Overall I enjoyed it and got (more or less) what I expected.

Part of me wants to believe that this is the genuine memoir of someone particularly dangerous with a very unique career. If so, I appreciate the bravery it would take to share their story and hope that they find some peace.

The more cynical part of me thinks that any person who is this capable and willing to commit murder, with such a degree of precision, would never risk putting pen to paper - even if extensive changes were made to disguise as much as possible.

Either way, it was an interesting and engaging story.

Very interesting read. On one hand this is a person who has committed the worst possible act multiple times, on the other I can feel all that shaped him and his efforts to become a better man. Very compelling book. I don't know if he should be in prison or finally enjoy a quiet life. Well written and entertaining.

Wow what an extremely interesting read.

I found it got a little bit repetitive just after the halfway mark.

However it was incredibly raw & deep, exploring the little-known world of contract killers as well as the impact of secrecy on relationships.

A surprisingly comical memoir, told from the perspective of a fulltime professional assassin. There were many moments that I was questioning how much could possibly be true or laughing at the absurdities of the situations.
