I had no idea what to expect with this short story as I went into it blind - It was not what I expected at all.

This is the precursor to a series that deals with emergency services, but treating supernatural creatures. My first impression was that this seemed a bit mismatched, almost forced in the way that the story was written. The writer's style seems a bit awkward with how things are said, then shortly after, explained again, as if they don't think that you can grasp what is happening. I don't know if this is a young adult story or not, but even if so, this seems unnecessary and is almost condescending in the way that it is done.

As the story starts to develop, you can start to get a feel for the actual series, and the potential for quite an interesting idea, waiting to get out, so there is certainly potential for something different.

I don't feel a need to read any more at this stage. The idea of paramedics treating supernatural creatures is certainly different, but this didn't really grab my attention as I had hoped.

Readers new to Urban fantasy and similar genres may well enjoy this, others, not so much.
