How Do You Return to a Home and Family You Never Knew Existed?
Synopsis:
Meet Colin and his brother, Shayne Carrington. They are new additions to The Carrington Series and family.
Colin and his brother, Shayne, are the sons of Nicholas Carrington. At eighteen years old their father left behind his former life and wealth in one of Dallas’s wealthiest oil families. He was never heard of again and eventually disinherited by his father.
Over fifty years later, the family's secret is finally revealed through a shocking phone call placed by Greyson Carrington to Colin, a cousin he did not know of.
"Our fathers were brothers." Greyson's voice was all business.
"My father was an only child. You have the wrong Colin, sorry." His finger hovered over the end button.
That call would change the life of Colin and his brother, forever.
Follow Colin's pursuit of forgiveness of his emotionally distant father's keeping this family hidden and finding answers to questions he was no longer there to answer.
Colin didn't think of himself as a hero, or at least he didn't feel heroic tendencies until he meets up with Bianca Thatcher. He embarks on a quest to keep her safe from her overbearing ex-boyfriend, Jagger. But Colin just might be the one who needs a heroine to save him from the fragments of internal scars he's carried. How will Colin remain just Bianca's friend, without losing his heart?

I received an advance review copy of The Return Home to review. All of my thoughts and opinions of the book and anything on this site are solely my own.
Bianca and Colin belong to each other! Okay goodbye! There's no better way to put it. Bianca Thatcher and Colin Carrington are the main characters of The Return Home. They are two very attractive people with money and they know it, everyone in the book knows it, but their story is greater than surface, transitory things.
Just because they have money, were taught at the finest schools, live and work in lavish surroundings, and have pretty privilege don't expect everything to be smooth sailing with their story. You might get a little anxiety, I got a little anxiety at points, but the outcome was well worth it! I mean how boring would a book be if there were only hearts, flowers, and frolicking through medows throughout. This is a contemporary love story and it shows it. Let's face it we all have our something.
That said this is a sweet and romantic story more than anything. I found myself in my feels, wistfully reminded of a special someone at parts I won't give them away. I also got some chuckles in too. Colin, Bianca, and some of the supporting characters are actually quite funny. They enjoy banter. I love banter and make it my mission to keep it going. There is no slouching here they keep each other on their toes in a playful way. Here is an example: How about you get to know me first? Then you can make an honest appraisal of me. I knew I should of bought my résumé in today" he joked. "Touché Mr. Carrington Please forgive me." They tease. I do that, you do that, with someone you like, especially in the first getting to know you stages. I don't know why teasing is a part of the process but it is.
I finished the story in only a couple of nights and thought it was good entertainment to take me away from all the craziness that's happening real time that we're all grappling with.
What DM Drake did was provide some welcome distraction with The Return Home, and I recommend giving it a read.
I read The Art of Loving by DM Drake last summer, and enjoyed it. So I was excited to see she had a new book coming out. I think this author does a great job with her characters. She’s good at making them seem real, so the readers care about them.
Colin gets the surprise of his life when he learns that his work-aholic dad was not an only child the way he’d believed his whole life. He has to learn to integrate into the Carrington family and Carrington Enterprises as well. That’s where Bianca comes in. She becomes his friend at work. Even though she wasn’t sure what to think of him at first.
I really liked the way these two become friends and slowly fall in love. But love doesn’t come easy to either of them. Neither Colin or Bianca had a great family life growing up. That’s something they both have to overcome in their own time and way. They are able to do that by working together. And I really liked that part of this story.
This is a novella, so it’s not too long. You can read it fairly quickly. I enjoyed it and hope you do too!
I was sent an e-copy of The Return Home as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
I loved reading Colin and Bianca's sweet love story! This is the third book in the Carrington Series, but it can be read as a standalone. The author did an awesome job at portraying the growth and development of the two characters over the span of their relationship. I enjoy reading stories where the two main characters help each other out, and this was very much the case in this book. Their similar problems with their families allowed them to understand each other so completely, and it was very clear that they belonged together. Bianca's problems with her mom were perfectly mirrored in Colin's sadness with the way his dad treated him. The resolution was very compelling and showed just how perfect these two are together.
The Carrington clan was also a constant source of joy and comedy in the book, and I would love to meet them myself. I would recommend The Return Home to anyone looking for a light, happy read.
I received an advanced review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It’s nice to read stories where the hero/heroine overcome some emotional obstacle and finish even better than before. That’s exactly what happened in this one. Both Colin and Bianca had difficult childhoods which impacted how they saw themselves. You get to see their own personal growth as they come to accept themselves as they are and move past those emotions.
I’ve read all three novellas of the Carrington series and they each have their own unique story. I like that you can still catch glimpses of previous characters and their continuing story.
The Return Home is the third book in the Carrington Series about Colin. He unexpectedly learns that his father was a part of the Carrington families, one of the wealthiest oil families in Dallas. Colin and his brother Shayne are stunned by the news, and Colin decides to leave his home in California and move to Dallas. He has to adjust to being part of a new life with a new family and trying to forgive the father who was emotionally distant his whole life. However, he has someone to help him in his journey, Bianca Thatcher. Bianca has her own issues with her parents and an exasperating ex to deal with as well. Colin and Bianca end up connecting, but will they ever be able to connect even with Colin’s scars. I did not know that this book was the third in the series, so I read it first. But I wasn’t confused at all which was surprising and nice. It did make me want to read the other books in the series. Brody, Greyson, Sheila, and Kendall made plenty of appearances with their kids in the book! The family scenes with them were sweet, but I did feel like some of the scenes in the book were a bit stilted. I did love though how excited Sheila and Kendall were to go to England because it was like a regency novel. I can totally see how my sisters and I would be some excited for other reasons but also for that! It was nice to see Colin’s journey throughout the book of having to deal with his father. It was really sad how much it still affected him even in his adult life to the point that he was afraid of becoming like his father with his own kids. I thought that some of his growth in the story progressed a little bit quickly, but it is a novella and faster than a normal book. It was also cute to see Bianca help Colin heal from his scars. And she had her own issues to deal with as well with her mother. It was nice that they were able to have reconciliation though even through the hurt that was in the past. Her mother truly wanted to change, and you were able to see how she was waiting for her daughter to come home. The events that led to the return home were so crazy. I was not expecting it at all. It led me to an exciting confession for Bianca and Colin and even an epilogue. I was so happy because I love epilogues! And there is going to be another book for this series which already looks interesting about Shayne and Bianca’s friend! I can’t wait to see their fiery exchanges and more books from Ms. Drake. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
"I do feel something for you. I crossed the Ocean for you and brought you to England. I would do anything to keep you safe." He paused, looking intently into her brown doe eyes. She spoke into her phone, "Hey, Siri." The phone beeped. "Define something."
"The Return Home," by DM Drake starts out as an apparent "enemies to lovers" that quickly fades into "friends to lovers" and then slides seamlessly into "I love you but you're too good for me".
Although I found some of the sentences a little awkward to read, the story was adorable.
I love how Colin and Bianca's relationship developed slowly and they had time to just be friends, confined in each other and cry on each other's shoulder before they fell in love.
Both of the characters carried a lot of baggage and were unsure how to navigate a relationship with so much 'stuff' still lingering from their past.
Sometimes, I felt like the author was telling too much, giving the reader information that we should've been able to "read between the lines," which made it feel repetitive in places.
Maybe it's because of this, that it took me a while to truly feel engaged and connected with the story and the characters.
Once I did, however I enjoyed the sweet storyline and romance. It was, as usual of DM Drake's books, squeaky clean. And while it is part of a series, it easily stands on it's own.
If you're looking for a cozy and easy read with themes of reconciliation and a happily ever after, this is the story to curl up with.
It was nice being back in this world. Enjoyed following the charcters and seeing the relationships develop. Most of all I loved the epilogue she always rights good ones. If you're wanting a sweet, clean, adult contemporary I would look into this series.

Book 3 synopsis:
"Colin and his brother, Shayne, are the sons of Nicholas Carrington. At eighteen years old their father left behind his former life and wealth in one of Dallas's wealthiest oil families. This can be read as a standalone, but you are introduced to a lot of people right from the start so it might take you a chapter or two to really get the relationships down if you have not read the other books.
The novella feels like it happens in the span of a couple months, but it is actually over a years’ time. One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was how Colin and Bianca's feelings were portrayed throughout. Drake did a good job of making me feel all the butterflies and emotions you feel when you meet someone new and develop a crush. Because it was a shorter read, I really appreciated that the relationship had highs and lows and wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. While this takes place in Dallas it still has a small town feel about it. Just what I needed for a light read.
This book tells us the story of Colin and being reunited with his family he didn't know existed. It is sweet and is filled with forgiveness, love and family.
This book has multiple POV and it was nice to see the different perspectives. I will admit, I have not read the second book within this series, therefore all the characters did overwhelm me. I had to take a few moments to think who was that again. However, Dawn creates such an amazing world in her books, where you almost escape into a peaceful dream where you are promised a happily ever after. If you're not looking for much drama, maybe just a simple easy read. Then this book is for you.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a sweet, closed door romance. It’s the third book of The Carrington Series. However it’s the first one of that series I have read, and I feel it can easily be read as a standalone. The characters are well written and the plot moves along quite smoothly, which is something I always appreciate. I look forward to reading more in this series. Thank you to the author for giving me an arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book in The Carrington series, and I think it’s the best one of the three. I enjoyed visiting this world again. Colin Carrington had no idea he had any family living other than his brother, Shayne. They grew up middle class in California. So you could imagine his shock when Grey Carrington calls him and says he’s his cousin. Colin flies out to Texas to meet his dad’s family and is left with a lot questions about why his father left this wonderful family. Bianca is done with rich, handsome men, and has no interest in Colin, no matter how nice he seems.
I enjoyed this clean, contemporary romance about two realistically flawed people learning to love and trust others after less than ideal childhoods with emotionally absent parents. Although I have not read the first two books in the series, this one easily stands alone. This is a sweet, friends-to-lovers story, with the added bonus of a gentle hero who works through his issues with refreshing vulnerability.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
I received an advanced digital readers copy of The Return Home in exchange for my honest opinion.
Even though this is technically the third book in the series I had no issues following the story or figuring out who the characters were. I’m sure if I had read the other two books the little snapshots into the other character’s lives would have made me squeal happily but I did still enjoy those moments nonetheless.
Okay, enough rambling, onto the review Amanda-people want to know what your thoughts are.
This book was beautiful, I loved it! I enjoyed the premise of lost family members coming together to make each other better. I loved Bianca and Colin 😍 They were ADORABLE! Shayne was also one of my favorites-secretly hoping he gets his own book! I just really enjoyed this romance 💝
This was a short and sweet romance story. This follows the story of Colin as he learns of a family he never he had and finds a new place in the world with cousins and aunts to welcome him. Then he meets Bianca who works for his family's business and suddenly he starts to notice his attraction to her and finds he starts feeling protective of her as well as complications arise. This story goes from Texas to England and during this journey, these two start to realize their feelings for one another are more than just friends. This is the third in a series so reading it as a standalone did mean I had a lot of characters to learn about but ultimately I enjoyed the romance and appreciated the well mannered, gentlemanly male protagonist. Both characters found a way to move forward from childhood and parental difficulties in order to make their own happiness.
Enjoyed reading this clean romance story. Thank you for writing a book that shows us an example of true love between a man and a woman and also true love between family members. Looking forward to your next book in this series.
This is a clean contemporary romance. Colin Carrington receives a telephone call from Grey Carrington, a cousin he was unaware of and the call changes his and his brother's lives. They discover their father had family he never mentioned and they are about to discover a whole new life.
Colin meets Bianca and they quickly become friends but will their relationship go further. Both of them have issues to deal with and the author sets out their relationship in a lovely way with lots of twists.
Although this is the 3rd book in the series it can be read as a stand alone, however, it features all the characters from the first two books so it may be better to read them in order.
If you enjoy clean romance then I would recommend this novella as it's a lovely, easy read.
I was gifted an ARC copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I'm so excited my novella is releasing on April 5, 2021. It's a beautiful romance that takes place in Dallas and London, England. Colin Carrington and Bianca Thatcher are my favorite couple that I've written about in The Carrington Series. Colin finds out he has a family he never knew existed. He and his brother were raised in a middle-class family in San Diego. His father who was distant all his life, left behind his family and ties to The Carrington oil business. This long-kept family secret is revealed after his father passes away.
The Carrington Family are multibillionaires. They search for Colin, and his brother, Shayne. They join this new family and Colin has to adjust to a new way of life. He also has to overcome a lot to forgive his father and his childhood baggage. He meets Bianca who is dealing with an obsessive ex-boyfriend and her own issues. They become friends and Colin makes it his mission to protect Bianca. His protection ends up blossoming into love. How will they overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to find their way to each other? I hope you'll read this novella and find out. :-)
