“A captivating read that flows effortlessly.” –Virginia Gazette

Terri Miller is recruited by Frank Cordell to advocate for Michigan’s homeless. She’s homeless herself, so she possesses the qualifications. She also harbors a secret. If discovered, that secret will taint the very shelters Frank is charged with establishing statewide.

Self-imposed penance for past sins takes her on the road every summer. Shoe leather is her mode of transportation. Along this incredible journey, she’s caught up with Iris Cordell, Frank’s daughter, who idolizes Terri’s lifestyle. She saves the life of a car-accident victim, then befriends his teenage son, Yates Strand. When she contracts AIDS from a homeless woman, she meets Eddie Gaven.

Frank, Iris, and Yates prod her for her secret. But it’s Eddie with whom Terri shares a clue. It’s Eddie who will write her epilogue.

In Summers Only, Terri Miller touches the lives of those she meets. But can her lasting impression hope to support a bridge to personal redemption?

Fans of Sue Monk Kidd, Anne Rivers Siddons, and Liane Moriarty will love Connie Chappell's new captivating saga, filled with heartbreak, challenge, and emotion.

Interesting, informative, heartbreaking!

This book hooked me from the beginning. I did not have much empathy for Abigail , in the beginning. I felt as an adult and her medical background she could have handled her addictioIn differently. As the story progressed, I came to respect and admire her determination, but always wondered about the family she left behind and their hurt and how they coped. This is one of those books I will read many times. It is so well written, with such compassion and has inspired me to be more caring about out-door people.
There is a sequel, I can't wait to read "A Proper Goodbye".

I read this amazing book in March of 2021. We are just now seeing some breathing room in this pandemic of corona virus so this story really sets in a much deeper level than I'd think might have tapped prepandemic. I love the details in this book, the good messages it holds, the characters towards the end are favorites. I wish it had ended with what takes place is this book, but I'll have to wait to see in the next as the story goes forth. It's perfectly read as a standalone but it's a but led up to at the end for the next book.

Extraordinary

Connie Chappell weaves a story of lives intersecting and the threads that weave and keep them together through 30 years
Terri Miller’s story— her heart, her bravery, as she struggles and succeeds to create a life for herself after a devastating act in her past. She touches so many lives, so positively. I was riveted.

Interesting information about homelessness. Some questions are left unanswered. Perhaps there’s a sequel to come.

Interesting book but needed some editing. Too wordy for me and some sentences were just convoluted. Still, I stuck with it and the end provided some interesting food for thought.
