The man Cristina Torres has fallen in love with kisses her and then disappears for ten years. Now he’s back but with two detectives as shadows, and someone’s trying to kill her. Should she trust him or run for her life?
Dr. Chase Richards has fled his Christian roots long enough. He’s returning to his hometown in Tennessee to make amends—at what he thinks is God’s direction. But the way is not just hard, it’s almost impossible. The girl he once loved is now a woman—and she wants nothing to do with him. In addition, the opioid study he started and left in Virginia has followed him across state lines. The police have warned him that he’s in imminent danger. His well organized life is no longer safe or ordered—and neither is Cristina’s. Can he discover who’s trying to kill them before she becomes collateral damage?

Pursued is my first book by Linda Rodante but it won’t be my last! And while it’s the 6th book in her Dangerous series, it can be easily read as a stand alone. Characters from book #4 – Looking for Justice – play a role in Cristina and Chase’s story but, other than feeling like Luke and Alexis had a story of their own somewhere, you don’t ever feel lost or like you’ve missed something important.
Cristina is a strong heroine who does battle in the courts as a children’s advocate lawyer. She’s not easily intimidated but she carries a lingering burden of abandonment by the man she fell in love with at 16. Completely understandable since he kissed her and then pretty much immediately disappeared with no contact for 10 years. If I was Cris’ friend, Chase would be in my purse-whomping sights. Just saying.
Chase is a good guy who made some stupid decisions in his young adulthood (and who hasn’t?) – decisions that cost him a lot of relationships. After dealing with the grief that made him act out and renewing his relationship with God and others he hurt in the grief process, he has one remaining name on his list – Cristina. I love love LOVED his gentle pursuit of her in Pursued. Coincidence? I think not...
The way the author framed the title throughout the story has many great layers. Cris and Chase are not only being pursued by some malicious-minded person (perhaps the same one?), but Chase is intent on pursuing Cristina’s heart once again. In the meantime, God has been unceasingly pursuing Cristina since the day she walked away from Him in anger and disillusionment. He hasn’t given up on her, and neither has Chase. And while the first pursuit clearly means her harm, the wooing from both Chase and God has only the best of intentions for her tender heart. I always love it when a book’s title has more than one meaning to the story, and Rodante nails it in this story!
Bottom Line: A Tennessee mountain setting, tense suspense, sweet romance, diverse & compelling characters. My kind of book. The story is well-paced, and you’ll want to be friends with all the main characters. While some parts of the plot become a bit predictable toward the end, you won’t care because of the smartly-drawn action and character development. It deals with timely real-life issues like opiod/prescription drug addiction from more than one angle. A swoony ending will put a smile on your face, and the message of restoration is clear without being preachy.

So I know this book is part of a series however it can be read on its own. This book is the first book I have read from this author and I am so ready to go back and read the other books in there series. In this book Cristina is faced with facing Chase the man who ran out on her ten years ago. She needs to find hope in finding forgiveness and trust. Chase came back to find Cristina but it seems he keeps hitting walls where she comes. He needs to find her and ask her for forgiveness and get back to his job, it just seems like others might have plans to stop him. The book had this big feel of suspense to it but I would not say it was all suspense. This book seemed like a super quick read it shocked me to realize the book was much longer then it seemed. The author grabs your attention and I had a hard time putting the book down. This book was a good clean read and well worth the read. You really can't go wrong if you are looking for a new author to try with this book.
Thank you Linda K Rodante for allowing me to have an ARC. I truly enjoyed this story and cannot wait for more.
This is a story that shows what God can do to heal people years after the hurting was done. Christina and Chase were very young, Christina was under 18 and Chase just over 18, when they realized that their friendship had taken a turn. But Chase disappeared from Christina's life with out a good bye or an explanation. Chase becomes a doctor and Christina a social worker. Years later they reconnect and while trying to figure out who seems to be stalking one of them they realize they still love one another. But can they let go of the past?
Christian and Chase need forgive each other to get their second chance at love. Suspense grabs you and propels you through the story as Chase races to save Christina.I I loved the well crafted plot, the engaging characters, the storyline about the opioid crisis and the dash of romance. I recommend this book to those who love Christian romantic suspense.
This book is mainly about forgiveness. Throughout the series, this has been a topic, but this book has forgiveness as the major character development plot point. There are a lot of Biblical passages throughout making characters reevaluate their spiritual condition in relationship to each other and God.
In my opinion, the book relies too much on romance tropes to completely develop the characters. They often act in melodramatic ways so that it was hard for me to imagine anyone actually making those decisions and acting that way.
The characters proceed to an expected end, then abruptly stop, only to pick up again in the last page. Readers are not privy to internal changes in the protagonist during the abrupt stop. This writing device puzzles me because it seems counterproductive to the flow of the story, character development, and my general enjoyment of the tale.
There are some exciting scenes where characters need to escape violent situations. There is also an investigation into prescription drug addiction and over prescription. The main details of the investigation are revealed by villains’ soliloquies near the end. This not my favorite manner of writing. I prefer books that let readers on little by little, leading to an ultimate conclusion.
There is one outstanding passage in the book which I absolutely loved. The female lead, Chris, questions whether she could love the “imperfect man.” I wish this concept could have been developed better because that truly applies to all of us. Forgiveness is essential to loving relationships as much as trying to act in a way that doesn’t warrant forgiveness! We all fail. We all are responsible for doing better. The book asks an important question.
Pursued is a well-written, rocket-fast paced suspense novel that drew me in from the very first sentence. I’m not a big fan of prologues, but the one in this book does a great job of setting up the plot without making it feel like a backstory dump. I loved the main characters, Christina and Chase. Their struggles and strengths are real, and I could easily relate to them. Christina’s friend and partner Jianna is a pistol, and I’d love to read more about her. She definitely deserves her own book – I haven’t read the other books in the series, so maybe she has one. For the most part clues were laid out about the villain’s identity, and I had fun trying to figure out who it was. Even after the character was revealed, I remained suspicious of someone else and kept waiting to find out he was a bad guy too! (Didn’t happen.) The book does a good job of exploring the current issue of prescription drug addiction and medical professionals who over prescribe pharmaceuticals. Messages of forgiveness, second chances, and a genuine relationship with God are woven throughout the story without being preachy.
I received a copy of this book from the author for free, and a positive review was not required. All opinions expressed are my own.
Pursued, written by Linda Rodante, is book 6 in the Dangerous Series. Rodante does a great job at getting you worked up while reading her romantic suspense books...this is no different. I did find myself a bit confused at the beginning trying to figure out who everyone was, but it quickly cleared up. As always there's always a valid reason for the suspense in this "Dangerous Series." This time we're on the run with Chase and Christina as they try to figure out the dangerous mess they are involved in. Throughout the book it's great to see how even though we have hiccups in our lives where we aren't as close to our loving Savior as we should be, we just need to go to Him and He will forgive us and restore our relationship as quickly as we go back. Thankfully He's willing to forgive our messed up lives...even if the characters struggled with forgiveness. As always, Rodante does a great job at helping relate to the characters and to our Savior throughout her books. I recommend this book. I was given this book by the author. All thoughts and comments are my own.
Yes, I only gave it three stars, but this story was actually very well written. The reason it only gets three stars is because they did a great job of creating characters that knew how to play Christianity without actually being Christians. Nobody had grief and godly sorrow for the wrongdoing towards God. They just “accepted“ Jesus, which isn’t the way to heaven. Thank goodness they are not real people.
With that said, let me just say how exciting the story was. I had it figured out before I was even halfway through the book, but there were a couple of things I didn’t see coming. That kept me reading Where lesser stories would’ve had me turning it off and walking away. Life is too short to read a book that isn’t good or doesn’t hold your interest. The characters were well developed, and the clues were interesting. Overall, this was a well written exciting story with a little romance thrown in, although it didn’t really need all of that.
Would I read a sequel? Probably. I just hope that the author learns what repentance really means.
`Pursued` is a Christian contemporary Romance/Suspense book by author Linda K Rodante. This book has a little bit of everything for the reader who enjoys Christian fiction. I appreciated the mix of romance and suspense.
Cristina Torres and Dr. Chase Richards haven't seen each other for over ten years after they both went their own ways. During this time Chase became a doctor and Cristina became an attorney. Now Dr. Chase wants back into Cristina's life, would she let him after all these years of no contact.
Someone is trying to kill Cristina and Chase wants to protect her. He wants her to know how much he loves her. He believes God sent him back to her.
I believe this would make a great young adult book. I am thankful to have had a chance to read `Pursued`. It's a clean love story between a man, a woman, and their God.
Disclaimer: "I won a free copy of this book and did not have to give a review. All opinions are my own."
Someone is trying to kill Christina Torres. Dr. Chase Richards is in danger, not only physically but also spiritually.
There's constant action, struggle, and suspense as the story unfolds. I enjoyed the characters and how they changed during stressful times.
I have loved this series. Just the right amount of Bible with everyday type people. I especially loved the section at the end. The author's "behind the scenes" motivation of writing this book was interesting. I loved it.
Maybe it was just me but this book, unlike other's in this series, shouldn't have been so long. The fight scene at the cabin was full of jump here and leap there, guns that weren't loaded and characters changing alliances. To me the story just wasn't believable. I really tried to read it because I like the author and have read all of her other books and liked them so maybe not liking this one was just me.
After ten years Dr. Chase Richards shows up out of the blue and wants to talk to Christina Torres. His return opens past hurts and heartbreak and talking will not change that. Chase brings more than hurtful memories, danger follows him. Will Chase and Christina allow God to heal past hurt, forgive each other and maybe start anew? An action-packed story full of suspense, a kidnapping, forgiveness, love and faith.
~I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~
This book turned out to be pretty good. I could hardly put it down. The author's style took a little getting used to, but the characters and setting were well crafted and it was pretty easy to get immersed in the story. I liked the inspirational themes appropriately scattered throughout the book. I think I may try other books in this series in the future. If you enjoy inspirational suspense romance, then you might want to consider this one.
This romantic suspense was an enjoyable read. The hero and heroine had some issues from ten years before and the hero wanted to make amends. The heroine not so much. They were also being pursued by an unknown villain. The message was about the over use of doctors prescribing opiates, and the dangers of addiction. Also, the inspirational message was of forgiveness.
A well written romantic suspense keeps the reader turning the pages. I love the way Mrs. Rodante makes believable characters with struggles and sometimes character issues come alive on the page. This fast paced read is no exception. The current tragic headlines of over prescribed drugs is simmering on the back burner in this exciting book. I highly recommend this book.
10 years have passed by since Chase left Cristina without an explanation. Chase, a doctor, returns to TN to make amends with Cristina. Someone is after Cristina, and Chase wants to protect her, regardless of her not wanting him to. This story had suspense and romance with themes of forgiveness and second chance.
Christina Torres is a lawyer concentrating on child custody cases. Her former friend, Chase Richards has returned to town after being gone ten years. He wants to talk, but she keeps dodging her.
I read this yesterday and just couldn't put it down. A novel for everyone. Medical abuse, addiction, and... horses! I really enjoyed this read. I'd recommend this to believers and backsliders. It's not preachy. But it is right on, like all of this author's novels.
I have read and enjoyed all 6 books in the series. Linda Rodante has done a good job weaving Christian principles and hot topics in today's world in these suspenseful, romance novels.
@Linda K. Rodante. Out did herself. I have read all 6 books . with each book you know that there are real people who are going through what each Characters is dealing with . Evil is real Jesus is real and Linda points that in each book.
This was only 192 pages.and .it.was.very interesting then it abruptly stopped without what happened to.the baby. There was nowhere to find the rest.of.the book.
Another good book. Great series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. I really like how the author shows how God uses all things for our good and His glory.
