She thought being a space janitor was chaotic. Now she’s really in for a cleanup.
Triana Moore lost her job as a maintenance technician when her boss discovered her true identity. But decluttering the galaxy isn’t just for janitors. When she visits the ringed planet Grissom with security agent Ty O’Neill for his sister’s wedding, Triana discovers just how messy life can get.
Deported before she can finish her coffee, Triana barely misses an exploding shuttle. But in true space janitor fashion, she decides to investigate. With the help of a pair of mischievous twins, a hard-drinking grandma, and her old frenemy Vanti, will Triana save the wedding?
Of course she will. But how crazy will it get along the way? Open the book and find out!
The Rings of Grissom tells the continuing story of Triana Moore, (former) Space Janitor, but can be enjoyed by new readers as well. If you want to avoid spoilers, read Triana Moore, Space Janitor first.
Author of the Colonial Exploration Corps, Space Janitor, Recycled World, and Krimson Empire series.
I grew up in the US Pacific Northwest, and after twenty years roaming the country with the US Air Force, I'm back. I have a spouse, three kids, and a dog named Pippin.
I've been an IT guy, a choir director, an executive assistant, a stay-at-home mom, a college instructor, and that lady at the information booth in a tourist town. But writer is the best job ever, because I get to make stuff up. Stuff I wish were true; stuff I'm glad isn't true.
When I'm not writing, I like to knit, read, bake, and ski. I also love to travel.
Got to the 37% mark on this one before I realised that the title wasn't what I was looking for it to be.
Girl who is actually the heir to some kind of business fortune has skivved off being a janitor for a few years, and got found out because she got a boyfriend. I kind of thought it would be a comedy, or about her adventures of trying to sneak back to being a janitor again (since she would only do that, clearly, if she really wanted to get away from her normal home life).
The premise seemed right up my alley, but it's not comedy. It's drama. It's relationship drama. And there are no signs at all that she was ever a janitor, or ever found any joy in it - from the start of the book, she's slipping right back into the 'I have heaps of money and bodyguards and that is just how it is, which is a good thing, because people are trying to kill me.'
It's a political intrigue book.
Which is fine, but it's not what I was looking for - I was hoping for something more along the lines of Rachel Aaron's Minimum Wage Magic. But anyway, if I'm looking for angst and drama of the upper classes, I might give this a chance again later.
I've finished writing The Rings of Grissom and it goes to my editor on Monday. The cover should be done next week as well. Stay tuned for a cover reveal.
Huni, Julia. The Rings of Grissom: Tales of a Former Space Janitor. Kindle, 2021. I thought The Rings of Grissom was a standalone, but evidently there were four space janitor books in a related series that I missed in which the daughter of an interstellar industrialist moves out of the mansion to become a janitor and pursue an affair with her hunky bodyguard. Now she is being taken to the planet of Grissom, which has nifty, useful rings, to meet his family. They turn out to be every bit as hard to get along with as her mom. Skullduggery ensues. There is a mystery to solve. Real friends and false friends to discover. And such like. Why not. Light. Semi-entertaining. Predictable scifi mystery romance. 3.5 stars.
The adventure continues. Now an ex-space janitor, Triana Moore grapples with how to find her own identity and life now that her past has been exposed. Off to visit her boyfriend’s home planet for a wedding, she’s shocked to find herself deported straight into another set of imaginative and well-crafted hi-jinks.
This part of the series was probably not aimed at my demographic -- the underlying theme running through it is Triana's mother interfering with her wedding plans. And yes, Huni’s writing could be sharper (using “smirk” 74 times across the nine current/former Space Janitor stories/novels suggests there’s an adjective/adverb shortage somewhere -- or a shortage of editors.) Who cares, though? This continues the first set of books’ trend line straight into good clean fun, albeit of a slightly YA-adjacent kind that’s an odd bedfellow to all the grimdark SF sitting next to it in my Kindle. Time well spent.
Halo type rings which allow wireless Internet-like access that you can use for hacking- with a flick of the ring can pay bills. However explosive devices go off, Triana gets more involved in solving a who-done-it. Encouraged by Ty's 98 year old grandmother, Angie. Triana has a background in upper class representative , plenty of money to bring her, her entourage to exclusive shops with perks i.e. personal space ships, ground cars...
The mysteries her team are looking at? Who is behind the plot to cause harm?, How does Triana seem to be where everything is going sideways?
There is a lot of discussion-with smart girls-as well as how to escape a vehicle that before is getting blown up.
The discovery the form of a small pill-sized device that ,when touched, changes one's appearance -- eye and hair color, body build and hue-disguise! now you don't look like the person they are looking for.
An elaborate wedding ceremony- the funniest wedding ever-unless your the wedding couple. This adventure will appeal to your sense of humor and make you eager to read the next book
This was fun one! Ty rises and seems more like what hem should be while Vanti and Triana do very nicely! What I really like was the addition of Tirana’s new bodyguards who remind me Guido and Nunzio from the Another Fine Myth series (favorites of mine). While the Android and the Hulk aren’t as active as Guido and Nunzio they show great potential (keep them in Ms. Huni! Triana’ getting use to them and there’s good stuff with them included!). We’re now on Ty’s home field and we’re provided excellent insight into Ty and his family along with some interesting snapshots of the people/culture of Grissom. Rather than the controlled environment of SK2 where Triana seems able to waltz around things instead she has a learning curve and it’s fun seeing her adapt to Ty’s family and not being able to hack her way to success all the time. Instead we have Triana working with Ty and his family to solve the issues here will also butting heads with some of Ty’s family. It truly makes for a a fun story, only slight behind The Trouble with Tinsel.
The writing is very rough as if the author just put out an early draft. Many backstory elements are not well explained leaving the reader wondering if they are reading book 3 or 4 instead of book 1. Scenes are not fleshed out, often barely more than skeletons. Almost all of the characters do not behave believably. I felt like the main character was emotionally stunted, consistently behaving in a manner inappropriate for the situation, along with several other characters.
Really, the author needs to sit down and rework every scene, including the necessary plot changes when anyone behaves like an adult in the scene. If that happened only once, it wouldn't be so bad but it was nearly constant, to the point that it was a surprise when characters behaved remotely mature.
Triana and O’Neill are on another planet. authorities say that Triana has overstayed her visa and deported her without O'Neal being able to intercede or even know about it. deportation has been done under false pretenses.
back home Triana's subterfuge about her name is discovered. People don't want upper levels doing lower-level job so she is fired.
some time later Triana and O’Neill go off planet to witness Kara and Erco’s contract.
More time passes and Triana and O’Neill go to another planet and meet O’Neill's family. Oh boy what a mess.
Many explosions all over town as Bobby returns for his reign of terror.
Love this series. Triana Moore works as a space janitor on a space station, but she is much more than she appears to be. When she visits the ringed plant Grissom for her sisters wedding, she barely misses an exploding shuttle. Was she a target? Along with hunky security agent Ty O’Neill, she plunges into an investigation to save the wedding and possibly her own life.
Enjoy exciting action and fun antics as once more Triana Moore cleans up more than just dirt.
I enjoyed this story completely. I would not pick that the elites would be more socially advanced so as not to cut their noses off to spite their face in regards to obviously skilled people being barred from working. Triana's adventures are fun and at times intense. Thanks for allowing her to come to your keystrokes.
If you read The Space Janitor series, you will love this book!
From the first page to the last, the book was hard to put down. I am thankful that a few outstanding issues were solved but knowing the leading lady, I am certain she'll find a few new ones. I will be checking out a few of the author's other books while waiting!
It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, which was a comedy but, it was an interesting and entertaining sci-fi/mystery/romance. There are humorous bits but, mainly it's tension, drama and danger. The characters (for the most) are easy to relate to and likeable. I really like the end. I already have book 2 in this series and plan to read it soon. Highly recommended.
I was already several pages into reading this story when I realized I had read this one several years ago. Even though I had just started the book, I was fully invested in the story and just couldn't put it down. It was even better than the first reading! Julia Huni's writing style and character development are so complete that I felt like I was there on Grissom. It was time well spent.
The excitement & crazy criminals aside, the lead couple are my favs! Triana & Ty go to Ty's sister's wedding on Grissom. It just doesn't end up the way anyone planned.
Triana, Ty, Vanti, and some of the other familiar characters are here in a new series. Triana no longer works as a technician on SK2 but still finds herself in dangerous situations. A fun read.
Sold continuation series starter. Good to see the same chemistry and thought going into this series. Really didn’t expect the return of a previous villain. Though now I want to find out if he is really gone or if his puppets take over.
I gave up at 21%. This is a space-faring story about an overprivileged heiress who despises her family and worked as a janitor to get away from them, only to be swept back into the fold. She has a boyfriend and someone is trying to keep them apart, perhaps his family.
Definitely a 5 star story! A really well written sci fi adventure, great characters, brilliant ideas & a great read! I do really enjoy all of this writers books & strongly recommend them!
