Three…

Amanda Ellis knows three things: she’s tired of doing what’s expected of her, she hates her job at her family’s business, and the last thing she wants to do is attend her parents’ boring New Year’s Eve ball with a date her mother picked. A few days of fun with her online best friend is exactly what she needs to ring in the New Year on her own terms.

Two…

Wren Rebello is impulsive and always ready for fun. A last-minute girls’ getaway sounds like the perfect way to spend New Year’s. But even Wren isn’t prepared for the spark of attraction she feels when she meets Amanda in person for the first time. Good thing Wren loves popping Amanda’s cork.

One…

After days spent sharing end-of-year resolutions and the one bed in their cottage, the clock strikes midnight and the ball drops on their time together. As Amanda and Wren go their separate ways, they leave new resolutions unfulfilled. Is there enough New Year’s magic left to turn their online friendship into real-life love?

4.5* – I love it when I go into a book for the sex and then get all sappy because there are also so many feelings.

Amanda and Wren have been online besties for five years. Wren is a badass lingerie designer, impulsive and oh so cool. Amanda sees herself as the opposite of cool. Her nickname – which she hates – is the disco ball heiress. She does what is expected of her, endures her job at her family’s business in California and only rebels through her clothes, preferring vintage to anything her mother would rather she wore. Wren, on the other side, is not entirely happy with the “fun” label she’s often stuck with. Just because she loves to have fun doesn’t mean she can’t take things seriously, right? After years of daily messages, Wren convinces Amanda to come and celebrate New Year’s Eve with her and her friends at a resort in the middle of a snow-covered forest. Neither is prepared for what their meeting IRL will do to them.

Party Favors is the fourth book in the So Over the Holidays series and the first f/f one. I usually like to read series in order but it didn’t seem necessary here. I did read the blurbs – two m/f, one m/m, which explains why I didn’t rush to read them, even though I’m now curious about these stories too – so I had an idea who Wren’s friends were and what they were into. Not that it matters so much to Wren and Amanda’s story but it was nice.

From the reviews I’ve read, these books are hit or miss. I think it’s pretty obvious from the first sentence of this review that Party Favors was a complete hit for me. I loved everything. I loved the tone, I loved the setting, I loved the characters, I loved how sex-positive it all is (and the whole series, it seems). I loved how Wren seems to be in control of her life but lets her vulnerability show when it comes to Amanda, I loved that Amanda feels safe enough with Wren to ask for what she wants (repeatedly), I loved how hot the sex is and how genuine the emotions feel. I loved that both women are bisexual and it’s not just a label. I loved that after so many years of remote friendship, they know each other so well that it doesn’t take them long to realise a holiday fling will never be enough and yet they’re careful with each other. Their relationship is both fresh and established, exciting and tender, sweet and naughty. Complex and simple at the same time, as most successful love stories. And did I mention the sex is hot? Yeah, there’s that too. Merry Christmas.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fabulous, hot, hot, hot and a little dirty. Best qualities for my first read of 2021. It's been a while since I've read a book and this started the new year off with a bang (0r six). Digital pen pals and best friends for five years decide to finally meet for New Year's Eve. Wren is an accomplished designer and Amanda is trapped in her parents dreams for her future. Wren is a free-spirit and Amanda tries to keep her parents happy.

It's a lovely short and erotic read. Great backstory and tangible connection between the mains.

Thank you Erin McLellan for my life. This is hands down the hottest sapphic book I've read in my life. So much steam, so much dirty talk, so many tooooys. But it's also online best friends to lovers that turns sweet at times, especially with the two of them wanting it to be more than a holiday fling and being scared to communicate that.

My kingdom for more sapphic romances just like this one.

This was an entertaining lesbian erotica novella with an unexpected level relationship building which was an excellent way to end up my holiday readings.

'Party Favors' is book 4 of the 'So over the holidays' series and the first featuring an f/f couple. Amanda and Wren have been online buddies for a long time when they decide to spend the last days of the year together partying and getting to know each other. But none of them counted on an unexpected attraction and sizzling chemistry...

This was a very good erotica book not only because it delivers what it promises but also because it has a surprising character building and a very good off-the-bed relationship development. Whether you are reading it just for the sex or you love erotica with a side of romance, you won't be disappointed with this book. The sex is varied and hot and the romance is sweet and cute. If you enjoy Meghan O'Brien books, give this one a try. Even though it's a holiday novella, it's still fine to read off season. 4.5 stars.

✭ one bed trope (but stuff actually happens 👀so dw it’s not boring like in some of those romance books)

SO. MUCH. CONSENT.

✭ an mc with short black hair who is a lingerie designer who wears leather and eyeliner & has piercings

5 Stars - yes really. if you are looking for erotic and romantic sexy times you should look no further.

Holy hell, people. Reading this look burned my house down. It induced spontaneous human combustion and burned my house down. I find this type of erotica so much more compelling because it comes from a place of love. There is A LOT of sex. Its super hot and spicy. But it so much better because our MCs have known each other for years and had a long time to fall into a love that bursts into flames when they finally get to meet in person. It's a short quick read and it even has a nice little epilogue to tie things up with a bow. Loved it.

best smut i've ever read in my entire life, let me tell you.

it's sapphic, there's only one bed, degradation + praise kink 😩 ( you know, "good girl" and "pretty little slut" type of beat ), the use of "love" as a pet name, the way they ask for consent is so hot, bisexual, mlm and polyamourous representation, cute and fluffy moments, and so much more :')

Amanda and Wren have been online friends for 5 years. They have a well-established friendship before meeting in person for the first time, after Wren convinced Amanda to take a 6-hour flight to where she is and welcome the New Year with her and her friends for 4 days (Dec 29 to Jan 1).

If you're looking into this book for the sex, you should definitely go for it. I was probably in a weird state of mind when I picked this up 'cause, while the abundance of sex was hot, I couldn't psych myself to get into the story.

That's probably 'cause a lot of the chemistry build-up happened in the background—the getting to know you's and whatnot—and when the MCs finally saw each other, they both had that secret gay panic thought of "Damn. She's hot." 😂 Couple that with THERE'S ONLY ONE BED trope, and bam! The MCs immediately did the deed that first night—and for the next 3 days.

The kink level is high on this one, folks. If that's your cup of tea, chances are you'll enjoy this. I appreciate the book so much for not turning up its nose at fake tits (which, I believe, is the first time I've seen in an f/f book), polyamory, and did I mention the heaps of kinks?

So, don't mind my star rating if you feel the above-mentioned details are for you. There is heart to the story, with both MCs being in tune with and thoughtful of what the other needs. Maybe I was just inexplicably distracted to properly appreciate the whole thing.

My favourite sapphic romance so far!!! 😍😍

I love romances where the main characters just feel like pieces of a puzzle and they fit together so perfectly! And I love when authors can make me believe that.
These characters, Wren and Amanda felt so real to me... It felt like I was living this New Year's getaway through them.
Their friendship was so strong and beautiful and the way they eventually realised their feelings towards each other and the way they talked about things and discussed things... It felt so mature and real to me! ❤️

They cared for each other and complemented each other's traits so well. I absolutely LOVED their chemistry and the smut was SOOOOOOO GOOD!!!! UFFF 🤌🏻

This is part of a series and couples from other books feature prominently, particularly Benji and William from Candy Hearts. You can definitely enjoy without that context, however.

This is a friends-to-lovers story with very engaging protagonists. I'm abandoning at just over halfway because the steam is just so high. I'll be tagging it as Erotica, though it's very well-written and the story is better structured than that implies.

No rating because I frankly have no idea how to rate it. Good story, good characters, but the personal steam tolerance couldn't keep up.

PARTY FAVORS was an absolute delight to read and I loved both Wren and Amanda. Erin McLellan excels at writing sexy romances with likable and relatable characters. While this romance does rely heavily on the foundation of friendship these two women already have, it still feels fresh for the reader because Amanda and Wren have never spent time together in person. They both go into the vacation with insecurities about how others perceive them and it was so much fun to watch them find someone who supports and sees them for who they really are.

Amanda is tired of being seen as boring and quiet while Wren is tired of not being taken seriously because she's just the "fun one." These two balanced each other really well and I liked that Amanda appreciated and loved Wren because she was fun not in spite of it. They quickly develop feelings for each other but personal doubts have them each questioning if they can make it last past the vacation.

I also enjoyed seeing some of the previous book couples like Benji and William and Rosie and Leo (my favorite!) and like the rest of the series I loved how sex-positive PARTY FAVORS was. Wren encouraged Amanda to be open with her desires and to know that asking for what you want and need is important. This was the perfect sexy and fun holiday read.

Did I finish this book, or did this book finish me? If you know what I mean. 🥵

Final impressions:
• Online best friends to lovers!!! God help me, I'm about to befriend some random on Twitter in the hopes that they'll whisk me away to a romantic cottage getaway and spoil me with life-changing sex.
• I'm very nitpicky when it comes to dirty talk, so trust me when I say that this smutty novella absolutely gets it right.
"You want to be held down and eaten out because you’ve been a good girl, and you deserve to be lavished with pleasure."
• Praise and affirmations! Sex toys! Sex on a balcony!
• I went into this book for the steam but stayed for the sweet and tender moments between two relatable women who crave love but don't think they deserve it.
• A sapphic romance that will forever live rent-free in my brain. Thanks a lot, Erin.

I was waiting for Haley Cass to release her new book In the Long Run on 19 Nov; that made me giddy with excitement!! So I found it’s hard to focus on reading in these past few days, but Party Favors got me hooked from the first chapter, and I really enjoyed it. It’s well-written and easy to read(once again I was amazed about the power of review because I would have never read it if I hadn't read some positive review at first🥺); both MCs and side characters are loveable. There is multiple hot sex scene in the book, and the first thing that comes to my mind is: This is a very healthy sex life relationship 😂. I actually love how they constantly communicated during the sex just to make sure everything was okay, and Erin McLellan still managed to make it sexy.

This book makes me happy. I have the biggest smile at the end. Rec it😃

You know what, there were fine scenes in this and it was a quick read, but man?? Why was the writing like that?? Help. I was laughing in places I probably shouldn’t have been.

Some favorite dumb lines that made me inappropriately burst out in laughter while reading erotica:

Amanda shot off the bed. “Need to pee. BRB.”
She was halfway down the staircase before she realized she’d literally said “BRB” out loud.

Hello why do we need to bring text lingo into this please stop.

A shiver racked Amanda’s body. “Yes. Please, Wren. I feel…”
“What do you feel?”
Amanda thrust her hands into her own hair and fisted it. She looked so fucking sexy.
“Like a cork that’s about to pop. Please, Wren. Touch me.”

CAN YOU IMAGINE SAYING “LIKE A CORK THAT’S ABOUT TO POP” OUT LOUD DURING SEX? SERIOUSLY. THINK ABOUT IT. TRY TO SAY THAT SEXILY. I DARE YOU. LMAO.

Even better.” Wren reached into her bag and dragged out a large green dildo.
“Is that Shrek’s?”
Wren laughed. “Yeah. I love this baby. It’s got a wicked head.”

This is a reference to a Shrek dildo mentioned earlier. Shrek dildo. WHY. I DIDN’T SIGN UP FOR THIS.

”Then I could open Myrna’s Closet, and wham, bam, thank you, ma’am. New Year’s resolutions—achievement unlocked.”
Do NOT talk to me unless “wham, bam, thank you, ma’am” is in your list of everyday phrases. I’m dead serious.

Sometimes, certain sentences are unnecessary. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. Have a good day. (but other than the very strange dialogue choices, this was…average?)

This was a book that was highly recommended and has been making its rounds around Booktube. I really had high hopes for this one and that it would be a win of a read. I will say that I have been wanting to read more Sapphic romance and in some respects this book definitely delivered but I had a rough time with this one. It definitely wasn't as what I had hoped for. It felt so lackluster of a read. I just didn't connect with it like I would have hoped for. Sometimes when books are too hyped I just have a hard time with them. But I also struggle with novellas when there needs to be more relationship development. This romance was sweet and endearing but it just needed more time on it.

I had a fun time with this one, and am very curious about the connecting characters but definitely will explore this author's other works.

Internet besties finally meet in real life at a cozy ski chalet style resort for a fun NYE celebration vacation, and realize they are both wildly attracted to each other too. Throw in only one bed, some sexy lingerie and sex toys, and Amanda and Wren have all the party favors they'll need to explore their new sparks while also realizing they want more than just this trip.

Super delicious, fun, and sparkly, this was a wonderful novella. Erin McLellan is my favorite author writing romance in this format and I never ever feel like I'm reading a shorter romance. There is also such care and tenderness taken for her characters without ever sacrificing the heat and tension. Bonus points for the hottest hotel balcony sex on a chaise I've read in recent memory and luscious descriptions of both Amanda and Wren's clothes and lingerie styles.

Also of note, Amanda has breast implants and they are part of her and it was great to see this portrayed in this way. Wren has difficulty orgasming without a vibrator and it is so fun to see how enthusiastically Amanda just hears this and accepts it. These novellas make me feel so taken care of.

Thank you to the author for the advanced reading copy!

New Year new possibilities

Wren is full of fun and a wild child who has been in an online friendship with Amanda for five years. Amanda feels trapped in a boring and predictable life. When these two finally meet up for a rockin New Years weekend their attention is intense. The story is fun and sexy with plenty of heat.

Such Fun!!!

Amanda is fed up of her family business job and being told what she has to do, so she heads out to meet her online best friend Wren for a New Year filled with fun and excitement. Upon meeting Wren in person Amanda quickly finds herself in the middle of an exciting adventure and a very different New Year celebration than normal.

This was amazingly fun, flirty, sexy, and the perfect New Year’s read. If anyone knows how to have fun it’s wild and free Wren. She was something else entirely, introducing Amanda to a lifestyle and partying like nothing ever experienced before. Erin has created quite the getaway fantasy and kept it fresh, exciting and packed with thrills and unexpected experiences.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this as a novella but it is just as sparkly and fabulous as its cover. I had a great time reading this and can totally see why Amanda took the leap to go and meet Wren and experience something different. It was thrilling, intense, made me nervous and excited at the same time. Both characters just were made for each other, complimented one another nicely, and that wild, free party spirit Wren has really came out in Amanda when they were together.

I can’t recommend this enough for a quick, fun, flirt with a party scene for New Year! And I hope we will see Wren and Amanda in future stories. They are great together, the comedy and humour that surrounds them really makes the story something more, and not only does it have cute memorable moments, but some hotter and steamier ones to. So they really did see the New Year in with a bang!

Two five star books in one day I don't think has ever happened to me before but I LOVED this so, so much. Great representation of online friendship becoming more and the conflict was small but sincere and it felt right for the characters and scope of the story. By far my favorite of this series.

Amanda: Why is it easier to talk this way?
Wren hooked their pinkies together on the bed between them. Amanda let out a shaky breath.
Wren: Muscle memory. Just need to build up other muscles.

A super spicy f/f friends to lovers romance that takes place around New Years. I liked this so much! After becoming online best friends, Wren (a lingerie designer) and Amanda (heir to her family's business) decide to meet up for New Years. They're different in a lot of ways (Wren is fun and spontaneous, Amanda is quieter and used to following the rules), but they gelled perfectly as online friends over the past five years, and now it's time to see if that chemistry translates to real life. It does, and not just in platonic ways.

This leans towards erotica, but there was still so much genuine connection and romance that I still loved it. (Not that I minded the long and steamy sex scenes.) I adore this particular setup. They have a strong, really well-cemented friendship, but the relationship still feels new and exciting and full of chemistry and spark to the reader, because this is the first time they've met up in person. They share so many firsts together, and it's so sweet. It takes place over a short period of time, but because they have years of a relationship behind them, it feels natural (and they don't rush into the feelings part of the equation, either). I adored the idea of making Old Years resolutions, and helping each other fulfil them. The conflict is believable and heart-wrenching, and the Grand Romantic Moment in this book genuinely made my heart flutter.

I might actually go back and give some of the other books in this series a try! A fitting end to my little December holiday reading spree.

I really, really liked this! The romance in this was basically my id. Like, internet friends meeting up in person and falling for each other? Just really great! The sexy stuff was a little hit or miss for me, but the things that worked really worked. And I just really liked both Amanda and Wren. So yeah, overall this was a really lovely story and very thematically appropriate since it's a NYE-themed novella.
