The ghost of a pious woman has some unfinished business she needs to complete, and it's up to two heathens - a grumpy necromancer and her jolly berserker wife - to help her.
AE Dooland is an Aussie who is 100% certified queer. By day she's a counsellor, by night she's a writer and a gamer. She's married to a wonderful and very grumpy woman, and they have a couple of far-too-cheerful children.

Don't let those cuffs on the cover fool you. This book is not about kink. Think of the chained spirit Jacob Marley and you're more on the mark.
I was really delighted by this novella because it was absolutely unique, bittersweetly enjoyable, and such a well told story. It also landed several really good jokes that made me smile and made my heart spillover with warmth.
The story is told from the point of view of Orla, a woman who's died prematurely, leaving her husband and two young daughters behind. She was completely in love, felt blessed, and happy in her life but, after her death, she's yet to pass on. She hangs in perpetuity until much later she finds herself chained to a curmudgeon necromancer, Ingrid, and her jolly barbarian of a wife, Golde.
The charm of the story comes from the interactions of Golde and Ingrid on one hand but the oomph of the story is delivered in Orla's journey to her final resting place.
The novella does have a handful of grammatical issues here and there (missing a word or the wrong word is used) but the power of the story should override that shortcoming. A.E. Dooland is a true story teller and, for those who have read her "Under My Skin" series, understand what a talented author she is and the breath of fresh air she brings to the writing scene.
I saw this on amazon for 99C and the blurb sounded really fun, so I had to try it!
A unique and amusing read, but with a lot of heart, too. Hour and a Half. But would highly recommend it!
A woman dies and finds herself as a ghost, then she finds herself attached to a necromancer woman, and her large barbarian wife! Her pious attitude at the unnatural lady couple and their gruff manners tickled me, as did their own attitudes and behaviours. Give it a go, I don't believe you'll regret it!
The world and the characters are very well done! The magic and the world were very interesting, I would love to learn more about it but its ends way too early! :3 The relationship between the characters are very well done. I love how it evoked similar feelings within myself that Orla felt. The author also has a distinct way from her previous works that I have read. The ending... I loved it! The emotions and character development for Orla~~~ sooo good! I also want to learn more about Ingrid and Golde!!! I highly recommend it!!!
A really enjoyable and light hearted novella about an indecisive ghost, an anti-imperialist (but really just a big lug) barbarian and a snarky necromancer. It's a quick read and I found it pretty original.
Nothing too crazy in the novella and I loved every page and every word. You kinda know what's gonna happen but because of how it's written, you actually want to see how it all plays out. I found myself getting emotionally invested in the characters despite the short length of the story. Idk what else to say, it was a good read.
I don't really care about Orla's story because I already know she will forgive everything and fly to heaven (that's how all the feel-good story is) since the beginning.
I wish the book can focus more about Ingrid & Golde.
A wonderful story set in a fascinating fantasy world with just the right amount of details to let you understand the various cultures involved in the story without major amounts of info dumping. Highly recommended!
4 stars. This was so strange but my type of strange. Really well written with a really unique plot. The characters were quirky and while this was humorous at times but it also had a left a lot of heart to it. Quick little novella but it was really entertaining and different.
A captivating read, and intriguing worldbuilding. I'd love to read a sequel - Golde and Ingrid's relationship has potential for more stories, and Lilly needs to find her person!
