Thoughts: If you like fast paced detective stories you’ll love this! I absolutely loved this story. Firstly I’m from Newcastle/Gateshead and this story is set there. It was amazing imagining the characters whilst reading the story on your door step. It will have a you guessing right until the end who the murderer is! Once you thought you had it all worked out, there was another twist. This book is the second in the series but it done well as a stand alone too. That being said I can’t wait to read the first in the series now. Jarrod was a really likeable down to earth character you couldn’t help but like and had great banter between his work colleagues. Highly recommend!
There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader on edge and page turning. The fishing boat must have been full of red herrings, lol. Colin Youngman creates very believable plots and his use of language is superb. The Geordie patois is as realistic as a Newcastle Brown Ale. He also mostly eschews cliches and creates some very inventive figures of speech that add a touch of humour. Recommended to all who enjoy a twisty thriller.
I enjoyed the first book in this series and was looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately it was disappointing. The plot was too complicated and I felt as though there were far too many characters in it. However, I do like that the setting is Tyneside (where I live) and that it was an accurate depiction of the area. I will more than likely read the third book (if there is one!) as I thoroughly enjoyed the first book.
Another good story by the author a lot in this book I’d true to life on what is happening in the world today in people been trafficked for sexual persons
The book has the main story with Ryan in the thick of it with plenty of twists and turns you think you know how to blame but you find someone else is in the frame as the book centres on a pole dancing club and a online dating agency but the plot you have to read the book with Ryan and his boss step daughter Hannah the main characters in the book so overall a very enjoyable story
This book has it all - prostitution, drugs and murder. The Newcastle based detectives search through a plot that twists and turns to find the culprit. The book is not perfect - police procedures are tossed aside and some grammatical errors creep in, but it all adds to the attraction of the book that draws you in! I have already ordered the next book in the series...
The writer uses the geography of the city well and the relationships are building, even if the humour is a little forced. This book focused on international Sex trafficking and has enough of the procedural givens to keep fans of the genre happy. A good plot well executed.
Another great story featuring Ryan Jarrad, his girlfriend and her father who is also his boss. Well written with plenty of twists and turns. A really good read and one that makes you feel that you actually know the characters. Looking forward to reading more.
Finished eventually. I read it to fill in holes in subsequent stories that I had read out of sequence. However at the end of this story there were too many loose ends unanswered. Not an enjoyable read. Won't be reading any more of the series.
Great Reading around the Old Newcastle Pubs and Landmarks. The Old George in the Big Market was our Local Happy Hippy Meeting Place in the late 60's early 70's Made me Quite Homesick !!!
It took me a while to get into this book, the narrative bounces between lots of characters and took me a while to sort out who was who in my head. By about ¼ of the way through I got drawn in and enjoyed the book.
Really enjoyed the second book in this series. I do however think that DC Ryan would really irritate his senior officers if this was in the real world. Good plot and interesting twists.
