The wonderful world of water awaits! Water is essential for life. We drink it, bathe in it, and thousands of creatures live in it. But we are running desperately low on it. Water Cycles shows children how important keeping hydrated is for our health and what we can do to save this life-giving substance in the face of climate change.
This children’s wildlife book is packed with incredible facts about water. Little ones will learn how it affects Earth’s weather, through rainstorms, snow flurries, and cyclones, how it is used in growing food and in making electricity, as well as how water travels into our homes at the turn of a tap.
From rushing rivers to vast oceans full of animals and plants, water is everywhere. Children will love seeing starfishes, manatees, and orcas come to life through spectacular photography and illustrations. It’s the perfect gift for kids aged 7-9 years who love nature and its processes!

Read this book after reading the DK Life Cycle with my son last year. This was a very interesting volume covering various water cycles in nature and day to day life. We particularly enjoyed reading about the life cycles of various animals. The pages about the Burj Khalifa skyscraper and the International Space Station were very interesting too. I recommend this book for children aged 8+.
I really enjoyed Life Cycles: Everything from Start to Finish and it's no surprise that Water Cycles is another excellent nonfiction book for children. This book contains a wealth of information spanning a wide range of topics related to water. It actually took me by surprise we could spend 144 pages on one topic, but it's brilliantly done!
The pages contain a combination of realistic illustrations and real photos, infographics, maps, and so much more! It's an engaging read and lots to discover on each page. Obviously you would dive in and out of this book depending on interest -- so it's nice how well organized this is and it also contains a glossary and index.
The book is divided into four major sections: 1) Water on Earth 2) Using water 3) Life in water 4) Water and humans
The first section covers clouds, hurricanes, hot springs, glaciers, ocean currents, tides, and more!
The second section discusses water in cells, plants, and humans.
The third section covers a range of living things and their life cycles -- jellyfish, crab, starfish, orca, eel, clown fish, sea snake, and more.
The fourth section discusses hydropower, irrigation, wastewater, and similar issues.
It all is really brilliantly done. It's a beautiful and engaging book. Great for science education either in the classroom or at home!
***Note: I was given a review copy of this book via DK. Opinions are my own.
This was a lovely book all aspects of water in the world, not just the traditional water cycle that we know about. As usual, because it is a DK published book, it is high quality and packed full of information. I highly recommend this book. My youngest enjoyed it as part of his two-year long unit study on water in the world.
