Santa's Radio #1

Snowed In at the Cottage

Rate this book
Rumor has it, the radio once belonged to Santa Claus…
And once it starts playing, those who hear the magical melodies fall in love.

Holed up in her room at Harper’s Inn, Grace Easton is bound and determined to write the next great American novel. But the jolly strains of Jingle Bells drift through her door and soon she finds herself on a last-minute, snowy excursion with the inn’s surly sleigh driver.

She doesn’t know much about driving sleighs, but oh what fun it is to ride with a man who does. Boone is attractive. Just being around him ties Grace into brighter knots than those on the presents surrounding the inn’s Christmas tree. But he’s also cold, uninterested, and because of his painful past he’s determined to keep his distance from the perky, blonde writer.

During their ride, in the middle of a perfectly sunny day, music plays and snow begins falling and shows no signs of stopping. Boone and Grace have no choice but to wait out the storm at his nearby cottage.

Romance is the last thing Grace and Boone have in mind. Santa and his magic radio have other ideas…

If you like to snuggle inside with a book on a snowy day and sizzle inside with all the feels, this book is for you.

my 2022 Christmas project pt. 2:

3.5⭐
this was yet another beautiful Christmas book! I loved the descriptions of the environment, the mood and the holiday vibes!
I was listening to the audiobook as always and every time the narrator said the word "sleigh", I thought they said "slay"💀
very ✨Gen Z✨ of me I guess...

one thing I didn't like about this book was the protagonist's name... who names a character "Boone"? couldn't they think of a better name?

What a wonderful and delightful story. Who knew hearing special Christmas music would change the course of someone’s life. This is a perfect story for the holidays and always.

I loved this story, but from the very start this book is riddled with plot holes and technical errors that should have been evident by everyone involved in its pre-release. As an editor, at the author's request I offered my edits gratis, but I can see that no updates have been made. Read this as a fantasy and it's a 4 star book.

Would you enjoy reading it again:
No. This book fits the typical cookie-cutter Hallmark movie. There was no humor and there were dramatic/ annoying characters who made dumb decisions and were too self-involved. The book failed to having any meaningful lesson/ moral. The book failed to fully get into the mindset of the characters and failed to actually explain why the characters feel the way they do (the book tells and fails to show). This book had a slight Christmas feel (talking about the Christmas inn a little bit and there being a snow storm) and the concept of the Christmas radio (that plays when a good match is together) was unique but the book failed to really do anything creative with this: it felt like it was just there for decoration and not actually do anything of value (the radio should have broken or something unique should have happened with it). *SPOILERS* Summary: Girl goes to Christmas inn to focus on her book. Guy works at Christmas inn and hates Christmas because his wife died on Christmas. Christmas radio plays, proving girl and guy should be together. She feels he is too closed off but then she is trapped in the Christmas inn with him because of a snow storm. Girl and guy leave one another, but then guy realizes he should learn to let love in again (get over his wife) and girl quits her job to focus on what she wants (focus on writing, and focus on dating guy). - 1

Did you enjoy the plot:
It stunk, should have put it down/ I can do better. There is nothing special about this book; it's a typical cookie-cutter Hallmark movie, just without the humor and happiness. The main character (girl) is insufferable and selfish: she complains about any sort of minor inconvenience and would rather spend time focusing on writing a book than spending time with her family. Due to the main characters being insufferable, there is unnecessary drama and fighting. Main guy complains about people helping, and people yell at him despite him either going through a lot with his dead wife. There is no comforting between characters or any attempt to help one another- just unnecessary and annoying fighting. - 1

Did you enjoy the writing style:
It stunk. There were shallow explanations as to why they are attracted to one another. No explanation as to why she finds him attractive emotionally (“All I want is to be with him” but why??). Too many stage directions (ex “she said softly, she said XXX, etc”); no straight dialogue. Author says they are opening up to one another but they are having a basic conversation about what they did that day. Author fails to show, and just replies on telling. This story was so boring and slow that it could have been summarized in twenty pages or less. - 1

Good ending?
Very predictable and boring. You could predict the ending after the first few pages, which isn't bad for this genre but it is annoying that there was no genuine purpose to this book: the characters didn't actually improve (sure, he learned to be more open to things but the book didn't go into details focusing on why he felt the way he was feeling, and it felt insulting to someone who actually lost their wife. There should have been more details on his relationship with his dead wife so the readers understand why he became the way he became). The only reason it is a 2 and not a 1 is because the ending fit the vibe of the book - 2

Format: audiobook (2x while lifting)
Average rating: 1.25 stars. Round up: 2 stars.

Grace headed to the B&B in Montana for a much needed retreat to write her book. Her parents had given her this as a gift for Christmas. Upon her arrival at the Inn, she met Boone, the moody maintenance/horse guy at the Inn. He was rude and moody and very handsome. But, Grace wasn't here for romance. . . or was she?

This story has a radio from Santa Claus, magic circumstances to help with matchmaking and so much more. It was a cute story about giving love a second chance to make a difference in your life. The description of the landscape and Inn were well done and there is a happy ending, as well.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

This was just okay for me. I really didn’t love the characters. I really didn’t like Boone. So that made the whole book not good for me. I need a stronger male lead. He did not fill that cup for me at all. Also grammatical errors. I am also normally a fan of magic but this was just weird for me.

Grace has only one dream; to publish a bestselling novel someday. Her parents gift her a get-away before Christmas, to Harper’s Inn. A wonderful inn in the snowy mountains, which is the perfect place to write her novel.

Harper’s Inn is famous for having Santa Claus’ radio, gifted by Saint Nick himself! Legend says that when that radio starts playing tunes; it will change the lives of the people who are there to hear it. Santa’s Radio is described as being Magical.

Grace has hardly unpacked when she hears the radio play, together with grumpy sleigh driver; Boone. She immediately falls for him, hard. Boone on the other hand doesn’t seem interested at all so she keeps her distance. During a sleigh ride a snowstorm catches up with them, causing them to get snowed in together. It doesn’t seem to be a coincidence though. It feels like magic..

---

What a wonderful, snowy, Christmassy, love story this was! It has huge Hallmark-vibes. Sometimes the story gets predictable but I still enjoyed reading it. It’s just perfect for this time of year! Grace is an optimistic, enthusiastic, aspiring author. A little naïve maybe. Boone is the experienced, manly, grumpy(on account of life-experiences) employee at Harper’s Inn. He also has this scared, weak side, which makes him lovable.

The ambience in this book is wonderful. Harper’s inn and its surroundings were appearing clearly, inside my head, with every sentence. It doesn’t include very long sentences and it was an easy read. Though there were some mistakes in the kindle-edition I was reading…

The book is mostly written from Grace’s POV, but as a reader you also get some insight in Boone’s mind. This tends to happen in the middle of a chapter.

It was free on amazon during “Stuff your kindle day”. The current price is €3.67. I don’t think I would have read this if it wasn’t free to be honest..

Tissues ! Tissues, then get the next packet out as you read this book filled with magic and romance. Catelyn Meadows has such an eye for detail in every romance story I’ve read of hers, she’s able to make! you feel every glance the characters take, the quick hitch of breath or even a blade of grass swaying or even the clouds rolling across the sky. So you can imagine how the characters emotions feel inside your heart, body and soul. This I believe is what makes these novels so great as these abilities add such depth and realism to her storylines that they are like an explosion 💥 of senses making the connections to the characters so strong, it also enhances your depth of understanding of each character and the places they are in, giving you no control, over how you cant take your eyes from the pages as every wish and hope they may have hits you so much harder. Therefore it was difficult for me to sleep as my heart was pounding in my chest and don’t get me started on how it effected my own emotions so strongly I sobbed for them !! This is a story about Boone & Grace, both lost in their own worlds which life has forced them into, so maybe they need a nudge to take notice of each other blah ! So what if it’s by a mysterious magical clock? either they have to come to believe in the magic or make the worst mistakes of their live’s. I can’t tell you much more than that or I won’t stop giving you spoilers left, right and centre, so I’m keeping my mouth closed or fingers a tappin so you can enjoy every single second of this breathtaking romance story. It is set at Christmas time, but that is only the set! So I think it’s a story that can be read at anytime of year. 💯 % recommendation from me !!!

I was torn between two and three stars for most of the book. It was fine, for what it was. Nothing really new or unexpected here. I like a Christmas story, and it had the expected elements.
What tipped it to below average, for me, was the lack of names for certain characters. If the story had been written in first person, I maybe would have not noticed that "mom" and "dad" and "Grace's sister's husband" didn't have names. But since it was in third person, it was really distracting when these people did things and they didn't have names. I also feel like the timeline was a bit skewed for the part of the book that took place in January, and what I would have thought was February but was somehow still January. Lastly, the characters' ages seemed all wrong. Grace was only 22 but they kept talking about her job at the call center like it was some dead end job she had been stuck at for years, her being single like it was a huge thing, and not having books published yet like it had been ages. She would have only graduated from university 6 months before the book took place. She's only 22. Lots of 22 year olds have crappy jobs and are single. Most 22 year olds aren't at the job they want yet. Boone's age is never revealed.

I listened to the audiobook, read by Georgia Lee, and I did find her reading a bit slow paced. Listening at 1.2 speed was perfect. On a production note, I listened to this on YouTube, and chapter 23 repeated itself, which was annoying because it was hard to find where the epilogue would begin to listen to that.

This was a cozy romance with Christmas. Boone was struggling with trying to get over the loss of his wife and unborn child right around the time of Christmas 3 years prior. He moved back to the family's inn and has been working there since. Grace went on a get away to help write her book and ended up at the Inn in Montana. She has been feeling like a failure and cannot write a book that people want to publish. She was intrigued by the highlights and the settings she heard about this Inn. Once there she found out about this magical radio that could help bring people together. Is the radio the reason Boone opens his heart again or is it Grace?

The story was cute and a nice read. There were times where I wanted to reach into the book and knock some sense into Boone and tell Grace to stop overreacting. They both had traumas they were struggling to get past. Great read for a cold day to stay inside and get lost in a book.

1st Read: ★★.5
This book started off really well. I liked the writing style and that it was written in third person which is something you don't see too often in romances. I liked the Christmas magic aspect of the story and it definitely got me in the Christmas mood. I was even able to forgive the insta-love romance in the beginning.

But then the story went down hill. I really didn't like the mom's character. I thought she was in Grace's business too much. The girl is an adult and can manage her life. (And this is personal preference, but calling your adult child "Gracie Goose" is cringe). Conflicts were also resolved a bit too quickly. Given the 218 pages, it's not a lot of time to resolve tension, but I would have likes to see a little more reasoning behind the resolution. In terms of the romance, I didn't really connect to the characters and I couldn't tell you why they would be good together because we only see them together over the span of a few days.

A sweet and magical romance perfect for the upcoming holiday season! This book will pull you right in and keep you engaged and smiling all the way through. Ms. Meadows does a wonderful job of bringing the characters and story to life with her vivid descriptions and attention to detail. I could  see everything in my mind's eye and feel the emotions the characters were experiencing. Grace and Boone are relatable and endearing characters and I loved watching their romance develop - with a little magical help! This is a delightful story you can settle down with on a cold, winter day with a nice cup of cocoa and feel all the warm and fuzzies. If you're looking for a feel-good holiday read, you don't want to miss out on this charming story!

I was gifted an advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I think this is one of my favorite reads yet and I’m not even a big fan of Santa Claus. The author’s imagery brings the story and setting to life! She has a way with words that will suck you into the story start to finish! Boone and Grace’s time spent while snowed-in at the cottage was so well written, totally swoon worthy!!! Their time at the cottage and everything leading up to this scene is one of the many reasons why I fell in love with this book and solidified Catelyn as my favorite author!!! Catelyn Meadows expertly painted a beautiful scene with their first kiss heated by the fire. Then their “snow kiss” scene was just as good! Boone’s character is so great from start to finish! I just can’t say enough! Fantastic!!! I’ve read a lot of sweet romance and YA but this one I’ve enjoyed the most so far. I liked this book so much I’d rate it a 5 stars x 5 if I could!

This was sweet and sad and just the perfect magical holiday book. With a pushy magical radio gifted by Santa matching couples together and causing all kinds of mischief and brow raising antics, this is a book you'll want to snuggle up with. The imagery and love for the holiday makes this unputdownable!

Boone and Grace are absolutely perfect for each other but the past is a huge block between them. Boone's been hurt and hasn't yet healed. Grace too, has learned to guard her heart. It's the perfect time of the year filled with promise and captivating magic to allow love in. What makes this so fun and entertaining is the whimsy sprinkled here and there throughout this. If you love contemporary romance and the magic of Christmas, this is for you!

Snowed in At The Cottage was an awesome Christmas story. With warmth from beginning to end- a moody hero with a tragic back story and a energetic and imaginative heroine who comes to the ranch with one purpose while leaving with a change in purpose and drive.

Catelyn Meadows is a great addition to the Snowed in for Christmas Clean Romance series. Her way of writing built such a romantic world that would be a dream to live in. With a picturesque snowy scene followed by a magical story of Santa Claus, it brings back the child-like feelings of hope , innocence and excitement for all things Christmas with all the great romantic feelings that come from a happenstance meeting with a quirky musical box.

Snowed in at the Cottage By Catelyn Meadows Falls Rider Grace Eastland who Goes on a Christmas getaway at Harper’s inn. There she meets mysterious reclusive moody widower Boone Harper. The end houses a magic radio that seems to have a habit of bringing people together and causing romance to inuse, usually to the dismay of me people within the romance.

One thing that Meadows does very well is capturing Boone's moody personality. though I don't agree with the reasoning behind it.

The characters rows very realistically written even for the unrealistic nice of the situation. Meadows does well making at making home characters same complex enough to actually be real people.

Well I like the Dory and the relationship between Boone and Grace.

“I’ve never believed in fate or magic, though I write about both, but a man like Boone makes me believe both concepts are not only plausible, but possible.”

This was…ok. The writing was way too much in the main characters heads, giving us every innermost thought. It made for a lot of telling and not showing, so I was skimming.

The “magic” element was just silly. It made no sense and felt unnecessary to say the least. The love story didn’t need it.

The snowy, cozy, Christmas vibes were excellent and the snowed in at the cottage scenes were swoony.

I didn’t need the Christian talk of “my savior” and “keep Christ in Christmas.” If I’d known it was described as a “clean” romance, I would never have read it.

This was a fun, magical, romantic, Christmas story full of charm, a beautiful cottage, and a quaint inn in Montana. It was full of sleigh rides, snowball fights, and a blizzard. I liked that Grace was a writer and came to the inn to work on her book thanks to a Christmas present from her parents. The tale of the antique radio made the story a lot of fun to read

I also enjoyed Boone, who worked at the inn taking care of the horses and giving sleigh rides. This story was a magical story and was so much fun to read. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Santa, an inn and a radio

The premise sounded fun and this is a nice book. But it bogs down in the middle with the characters insecurities. I skimmed the middle and focused on again toward the end.
Boone has a lot of baggage surrounding Christmas and who can blame him when the cost was so high. No further spoilers on that bit.
Grace is likable and lost in dreams. She lets her mother influence her decisions based on the guilt she feel. I like the growth that takes place in their mother daughter relationship.

Boone and Grace were an unlikely couple. Neither of them were seeking romance. Boone had suffered a broken heart due to great loss and Grace was focused on her writing career. But the magic of Christmas in the form of Santa's radio had other plans. Overall this was a fun premise and the characters were interesting and likable but there were spots where the story dragged a bit. The author kept me engaged though with the romantic spark between Boone and Grace. I was entrusted with a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I received a free copy to review: a fairytale romance crossed with fantasy, this charming love story draws the reader in immediately. From snowy sleigh-rides to blazing fires in the hearth flanked by a Christmas tree, Grace and Boone's journey to love is delightful to witness. Catelyn's characters were authentic and relatable and although one knows there will be a HEA, there are a few bends in the road en route where you can't see what's coming next!

Language: no swearing
Sex: none; I would classify the kissing as spicy-clean!
Triggers: death, rejection

Cute Hallmark-style clean Christmas romance

Such a cute clean Christmas romance. Fans of the traditional Hallmark Christmas movies will definitely enjoy this book!! Full of magic, humor, heartbreak, and family, this is an easy read to relax and enjoy through the holiday season (and yes I read it in April ha ha). This is the second in this multi-author series that I've read and they each seem to be unique with just the "snowed in" theme to connect them. Very enjoyable!

Grace is a writer having a hard time writing a book that will be accepted. Her parents give her a Christmas present to Harper's Inn during the Christmas holiday. While she is there Grace meets Boone (who had lost his wife and unborn child in an accident during Christmas) who is grumpy and reclusive. But the radio (you will have to read the story) has other ideas about the two of them. Snowed in at the Cottage is about Boone and Grace's love for each other. The story was good and clean. I recommend this book.

Snowed In at the Cottage is a delightful, sweet Christmas romance set at Harper's Inn.

Grace is desperate to write the perfect book without distractions and Christmas week is the only time she can get time off work. She doesn't however expect the distraction of handsome yet surly Boone or the magical matchmaking of an old radio that once belonged to Santa himself.

I loved everything about this book and definitely recommend it. If you love Hallmark films then this is the book for you.

This is a sweet Christmas romance with Grace ,a writer Boone who has a hot / cold attitude and Santa's magical radio. The author does a great job bringing the story to life with her descriptive writing and vividly painted scenes. She brings strong characters and weaves an entertaining story , moves it fluidly and delivers a magical holiday read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

The pushy mom derailed my interest for a bit. Grace is initially rather weak willed. Chivalry is dead with Boone. The story is magical, but expect to get kicked in the ribs a few times. Nonetheless, overall, it's still a good story.

Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Haunting. Romantic. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I usually cringe at stories such as this one where the fairytale like romance happens. However the story went by fast paced enough and the descriptions weren't excesive. Next the female characters were lovely, not your typical swooning almost dumb kind of person.
There were resolves, red flags disappeared as the characters grew. Also the relatives were lovely, kind and supportive.

Basically a perfect, comfy, quick read for the colder months.
