A Tooth Fairy's Promise

Rate this book
Who needs detective skills when you can track down missing children by swallowing their lost teeth?

Since coming to Atlanta, Tiffemory Greenstone has made it her duty to protect the vulnerable youth of the city. That's not always easy for an Outsider with a forged PI license and little to no detective experience. Luckily, in this reality, parents seem to have a weird habit of hanging onto their children's milk teeth.

Tiffemory experiences the worst kind of déjà vu when a previous client's daughter is kidnapped for the second time in six months. The good news is that Tiff immediately knows it's the rival fairy she banished during their last encounter.
Unfortunately, rescuing Mallory from a vendetta-fueled rogue tooth fairy who is more than her equal may cost her more than she expects.

This was a really interesting take on the tooth fairy! I particularly enjoyed the bone magic/manipulation, including being able to track people with their bones. While the thought of swallowing teeth creeps me out, it is an excellent nod to this legend of the tooth fairy. There's also a cool multiverse theory here! I really liked how there are certain rules for how Tiff, an Outsider, is able to stay in our world. I also enjoyed how Tiff uses her powers for good after her rather tragic backstory. The villain is also interesting!

This was definitely quick to read and full of action. It does end on a cliffhanger though! The writing can be a bit simplistic at times, but it does make for some easy reading. I did have trouble distinguishing some of the side characters from each other.

Overall, this was a fun urban fantasy!

I received a copy of this for review from the author - thank you! All opinions are my own.

~About

A Tooth Fairy’s Promise follows Tiffemory (Tiff) Greenstone, a Tooth Fairy and private investigator, who can track a child by consuming their baby teeth. When a young girl goes missing for the second time, her parents call on Tiff to find her, however, the investigation won’t be easy as a past enemy lurks in the shadows.

~Characters

Tiffemory (Tiff) came across as a caring and determined woman. Hints at a tragic past filled with loss made me empathize with her on a deeper level. No matter what came her way, she persevered in her job, using any resources she could to complete her investigation.

While the other characters involved each had a distinct sense of being, they were harder to pin down description-wise. Each had a different role in regards to the investigation, either providing a helping hand, acting in the role of skeptic, or forming one of the many barriers to Tiff’s goal of locating the lost girl.

~Likes

The story was gripping and enjoyable, pulling me into a world of mystery and intrigue. The third person limited narration worked well with the author’s writing style and, alongside details of Tiff’s history as a fairy, created a wonderful sense of her character’s internal self.

My only issue was with the text as some sentences were incomplete or included the wrong connective words, confusing the sentence’s overall meaning. However, a simple proofread would easily fix this.

~Overview

Overall, I adored A Tooth Fairy’s Promise. It proved to be an interesting start to a unique fantasy detective series and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

My rating: 4 stars.
Recommended to: lovers of fantasy-inspired investigation novels, with kick-ass mythical detectives.

I love Adams’ Osseous series. Why? Because:
- Originality. Serious twists on usual tropes around tooth fairies and anchors within multi-verses/worlds.
- The main character is competent yet smart enough to acknowledge what she doesn’t know.
- Loss and grief have actual meaning, a reoccurring theme and used as a vehicle to move the plot along.
- The use of anatomy and medical knowledge.
- Doesn’t shove romance in there for likes.

Only down side? CLIFF HANGER. Luckily, book 2 is out in a few days, and a novella is already out!

IT’S BRILLIANT. GO BUY IT.

Nice start.

Cliffhanger aside, I wouldn't have pick up this book had I known, the background lore and characters are intriguing enough to have me going back to its pages. The investigation unravels at a nice pace and the story definitely holds the attention.
It needs a round of proofreading, but all in all is a good read.

I was not disappointed with my first foray into the urban fantasy genre. Looking forward to some more backstory of the heroine in future books. This was a very solid and action packed read.

A different spin on the tooth fairy

Great start to a new series. It is a definite new spin on the tooth fairy. It has a strong heroine who isn't new to her powers or stumbling along, which allows the story to jump straight to the action. I also like that the story took place in Atlanta and actually used real places and things from Atlanta. There are things to look forward to in the next book. I have so many questions, but that would include spoilers, so I will just ask a simple one that doesn't spoil the book. Will the uber driver be in the next book?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy and fun read, my first urban fantasy. As far as creativity goes, I would give this book five full stars. No one in the whole world could have come up with this concept besides this author. A protagonist that is a Tooth Fairy May seem outrageous, crazy, absurd even. But it is actually kinda amazing. Tiffemory is the coolest badass. One of my favorite details in the book was the ‘Oreo Burger’. Ahh, Fantasy. I loved it and will definitely come back for more of the series to find out what happens next. For some small technical issues I felt I had to give an overall score of four stars, but it is otherwise well told, linear, and moves quickly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy or mystery/crime thrillers. It was a great escape and a lot of fun!!!

The first full length book in this series, it continues after the prequel left off. You could probably get away with not reading the prequel first, but it helps to have read it first. Tiffemory, our main character, is shown to be continually helping others in unusual ways, thanks to her gifts. We get a little bit of her backstory, and part of why she does what she does. Rather infuriatingly, it ends on a cliffhanger, but I look forward to seeing what the next book reveals. I’m betting that when she gets back to earth, she’ll have a much bigger group of people who knows what she is.
Overall, I love this series and want to find out more.
P. S. This could be a little icky for those sensitive to medical material.

Great beginning

Clean and very engaging. And honestly who doesn't love a heroin who turns personal tragedy into a quasi legal vigilante crusade. Getting the next book as soon as I can download it!

A unique take of the tooth fairy! Michael Adams gives the reader a detective's badge with this thrilling missing person investigation. Tiff, the main character, has an intriguing backstory and motivation. I loved the little things that indicated she was an Outsider - her insatiable sweet tooth and the way she fumbled with technology made her so lovable!
