Harmony: A BFF Series Spinoff novel

Rate this book
The last thing I was expecting to find when I crawl naked into bed at 1 AM is a  scantily dressed woman already sleeping in it.

Michael
Once upon a time, I believed in happily ever after, but it was brutally ripped away from me, and I closed myself to the option of ever finding love again.
I don’t deserve a second chance at happiness, a notion I firmly held onto for eight years.
Until I met Lauren.

Lauren
From a young age, I was taught to always avoid risks.
It’s what led me to waste ten years on a man who never really loved me and eventually took everything I worked hard to achieve.
But playing it safe is a notion I just can't seem to let go of.
Until I met Michael.

Harmony is a spinoff novel of the BFF Series.
While it can be read as a standalone, I recommend starting from the series for more insights into the characters and their backstories.

Fun, sexy and lighthearted.

After tragedy visited Michael’s life eight years ago, he went on a downward spiral that nearly cost him everything. When he bounced back, he fortified his heart against such pain while believing he wasn’t worthy of another chance a love.

But the now very successful music producer has to cohabitate with his gorgeous sister’s best fried for weeks is not only testing his restraint regarding his attraction towards her but also proving that his heart is more than capable of love.

This is my first Kyra Fox book and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I’m thinking of starting her BFF series, not only because I enjoyed her writing style but because I will confess that I did feel a bit overwhelmed with so many characters that were intertwined with Lauren and Michael’s past.

Once I got the hang of who was who though, I loved the fun and easy banter between Michael and Lauren. I especially liked the nicknames they gave each other. The chemistry between them was sizzling hot and the sexy times had me fanning myself. I loved how sweet, caring and naughty Michael way and loved all the family support that came along with him.

Harmony is a standalone contemporary romance by Kyra Fox. Told from both POVs with a happy ending.

Kyra writes in such a way that your heart strings are always going to be pulled; in pain, in love, in laughter, and much more.

I got lost in this book. I forgot I was reading, forgot my kids, forgot to eat, forgot to sleep, and I loved every minute.

This book is about healing. It is about growing. It is about becoming who you are truly meant to be. And it is all because there is that one special person who truly can help.

I laughed, I swooned, I fanned myself, and I’ve never been happier.

Loved this spin off and I can wait for MORE TO COME!!

Plenty of S.A.S.S. Inside

4.5 stars - The opening scene is just...FANTASTIC! I couldn't help but laugh aloud.

I love how Michael / Mikey / Cupcake really, truly tries to keep his attraction to Lauren / Lore / Rockstar at bay. They're both broken but I absolutely love how they find a comfortable intimacy with each other that has nothing to do with physical intimacy. They quickly find an ease to their budding friendship that life-long friends could take years to develop. And those nicknames are perfect!

Of course, when they do give into their physical desires, it's MAGNIFICENT! Hot and bothered doesn't even begin to describe the explosion their chemistry causes! In addition to being explosive, they are sweet, caring, playful, and very loving. Did I mention that they're insatiable? No? Oh, they are and it's beautiful. Really, it's what causes extreme swooning. (Hey, don't mind the puddle that is me waaaay down here.)

Don't be surprised to laugh, cry, cringe, cheer, or just smile that lighthearted smile as you read this. There will be moments of anger but they're short lived. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Michael is still heartbroken over his fiancee's murder years ago. Lauren just got out of a long-term relationship with a controlling idiot. Now, they're temporarily sharing his condo. The friendship part comes easy; they fall into a nice routine. It become increasingly difficult to avoid a physical relationship, and they eventually give up trying. They're sizzling hot together, both in and out of the bedroom. It takes them a while to get their feelings together. After her ex, Lauren doesn't feel worthy of love. Michael needs forgiveness, carrying guilt over Naomi's death. A couple of years ago, I read a rom-com novella by this author, then didn't read anything else until this book. Not sure why that is, but I enjoyed this book so much; will look for this author more in the future.

I love a great friends-to-lovers story, and this book checked off all the boxes in this trope for me.
First off, Mikey... I loved him - he is one of my favorite book boyfriends to date. And Lauren was great, too. The sexual tension between these two is AH-MAZING! Just when you think they are going to get together, something happens, so the suspense was killing me! When it finally happens, you are more than ready for it, and boy did the author give me everything I wanted (insert fanning my face!)
I'm a sucker for celebrity romance as well, and there was a healthy dose of fame, rock 'n roll, and fashion weaved into this story. HARMONY had me happily humming along till the very end. Highly recommend!

An absolutely wonderful story to fall in love with. It's love stories like these that make me a complete hopeless romantic, with a belief that love does find a way.

The story centers on Lauren and Michael, who both have had pasts that have made them jaded and closed hearted. Because of those pasts, it became easier for them to bond and to connect on a deeper level because of their emotional scars. But little do they know, love is right there, hiding in the shadows, ready to capture them without them even knowing it.

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, like most love stories now, there is always this moment of intense hurt and pain that triggers the turning point in the story. But I love that with their happy ending, it just flowed smoothly. And it makes me believe that when love is true and real, there is no need for intense drama, it just works.

This was so much more than a story about two people giving into their attraction. It was even more than finding love. It was all about finding your right place and person in this world. Michael felt he needed redemption, but he needed forgiveness to and from himself. Lauren felt she needed no one because she was undeserving, but she needed someone to show her just how worthy she truly is. And these two managed to teach each other without even realizing that they were doing it! Sure, it took something Michael was terrified of reaching for and something that Lauren was afraid she could never have, but they both centered themselves and each other without losing their minds or doing supremely stupid things. But when they figured out that they knew how to love without pain or rejection, everything snapped into place for a bright future ahead.

This author is proving to be excellent at bringing very real feelings into her works without being obvious about it. Instead, the story progresses naturally and every emotion feels like something the reader could oh-so-easily identify with. I see good things ahead for other characters who need their tales shared and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Finding your key in life and playing in perfect Harmony together

Harmony is a story about two people who are both brokenhearted and with battered souls helping each other to learn to love and be loved first through friendship and then building into real love. Lauren has just gotten out of a ten year relationship with a controlling and manipulative man. She is an orphan so she has only herself to rely on. She is down but not really out, at least not in life but maybe for men. Michael is a successful music mogul who's fiancee was murdered years ago. Since then he has not wanted to get involved with anyone. He has family and close friends but he loses himself in his work.
When Lauren and Michael find themselves sharing the same condo they quickly form a friendship. But there is an undercurrent of attraction between them even as they avoid it. But that undercurrent grows stronger between them until it bubbles to the surface and brings them together. They are toe curling, life changing sizzling smexy together in all ways. In each other they both heal, learning to be in perfect harmony with each other.

This is a very well written book with a wonderful story-line filled with emotion, turmoil, friendship, guilt, angst, laughter, romance, love, healing and so much more. The characters are well written with flaws and emotional depths. I very much loved this book and would RECOMMEND IT!!!

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This is a new author for me so the first in the Dare to Deaire world that I have read. There are a lot of secondary characters in this and I will admit I did get lost a time or to as to who was who and how they were related, a family tree would have really helped me visualise this better I think.
The connection between Lauren and Michael was beautiful and my heart broke for them at times. The story was written well and swept me away, when I got to the end I found I wanted more of their story as I really liked the two of them together.

Wow what a steamy, hot and heartwarming romance. Lauren (aka-Rockstar) is down on her luck after her long term relationship ended and he took her inheritance. Her friend Trista lets her stay at her place she shares with her brother Michael (aka Cupcake) until she can get back on her feet. Michael comes home and slides into bed not realizing he is in bed with Lauren. Both want to avoid relationships. Michael who is still getting over his fiancée's murder and Lauren as she does not feel worthy. I loved the steamy and slow built up to their romance. They were both fighting the attraction but were still flirting I loved both characters and secondary characters. Really looking forward to the next in the series. Highly recommend.

Harmony is a beautiful second chance romance that will steal your heart as you take a chance on Michael and Lauren. Two people who have been hurt find solace in the arms of each other in what they declare is a fling. As they hold each other at arms length with plenty of push and pull you will be kept on the edge of your seat. Their story is witty, fun, flirty and sizzling with chemistry. It also gives us heartbreaking and heartfelt moments keeping our emotions running high. A story that brings harmony to your heart as two broken people find the pieces they are missing in each other.

Kyra Fox has done it again. She's brought us riveting characters with backstories that tug at your heart and a current story that will have you falling in love.

And not only with the hero, Michael Edwards who just shot up to the top of my favorite book boyfriends list, right next to Mac from her BFF series.

Harmony is a spin-off of the BFF series, and as an extra treat, the reader gets to revisit all those characters we love and will never get enough of. And oh boy, I can't wait to get more of Lauren and Michael in Kyra's future books, along with the rest of the gang.

Kyra Fox has hit it out of the park with Harmony. Hell, she’s invented a new sport with this novel. She weaves together complex characters with wit, heat and heart. Grab a drink and a comfy spot because once you start, you won’t be able to put it down.

I miss romance in many of today’s romance novels. Kyra brings it back in bold and beautiful color.

Michael and Lauren pretty much forced to be roommates for a set time. Michael and Lauren decided to form a pack to help each other but will this really work? Will Lauren’s crush turn into more? Lauren is getting out of a 10 year relationship and her friendship with Michael really opens her eyes to what life could really be. Michael and Lauren definitely go through some ups and downs and have a few twists and turns but in all this was a good read.

I devoured this book tonight and absolutely loved it. From a sexy ginger hunk to a woman who showed such strength I loved Michael and Lauren from their first hilarious encounter. This was funny, sweet, a little heartbreaking and so damn steamy. Such a good read!!! Add in a surprise pregnancy and I’m so glad I found this book to read.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Whiny female character got on my nerves.

There was chemistry, some good intelligent brains before, and Michael was wonderful.

But the female got on my nerves. And how idiotic is she - that she left everything to someone else and got hurt badly cause of it.

Gosh, these types of characters make my head hurt.

Until the next read,

Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for my honest opinion!

The story
The story is about Michael and Lauren. They meet when Lauren is staying in Michael's apartment, and he unexpectedly comes home. They are immediately attracted to each other, but their baggage from the past prevents them from getting serious.

I really liked the premise of the story - I'm a sucker for troubled romance. I must say however, that this one bothered me a bit. The way Lauren and Michael meet is quite funny, but I honestly don't believe the way they're SO attracted to each other from the first moment they meet! Sure, I too like someone quite quick, but the way they wanted to tear each others clothes off and open up their souls? That was a bit too much too quick for me, and made it a bit unrealistic. The storyline wasn't very strong, so if you like your romances with a little more storyline, this one isn't for you. Something that's not just the case for this story, but why on earth

The characters
Lauren So the main female character is Lauren. She's been through some things which made it hard for her to trust anyone. I liked her as a character, but I can't say she was a very strong character to me. Hell, I feel like Trista (who we only see for a VERY short part of the story - considering she's her best friend?) has more depth than Lauren. There are quite some things left unexplained, I wanted to know more about her parents, her ex, etc. I just felt like the whole ex scenario was barely exploited, she talks about him and how difficult it had been for her for most of the story, Lauren just seemed a bit childish to me, the way she kept wanting to cuddle and the way that was described, I had trouble believing she was an adult. And her nicknames for Michael. I. Can't.
Also, I'm glad Lauren followed the whole family explanation Michael gave, because I sure as hell didn't haha!

Michael Michael was really cute, he had way more depth than Lauren and I loved that! His backstory - the reason why he has trouble opening up - was really interesting to me, and I really wanted to know more about it. I'm guessing there are other books about Trista and co, so I'm guessing it's explained more in her story. Still, the pieces we got were very interesting and very tragic. Poor Michael. It was a bit weird, because he was introduced as this strong, bad boy kind of guy - but he couldn't be more different. When his suspenders were mentioned so many times, I saw him as this really nerdy guy - and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's just not what I expect when you describe him as a bad boy type lol. Maybe I just misunderstood. I really wanted to know more about his business too, that really was something I missed; why did he get into the business, is he an actual songwriter (because he does write songs for his artists?); I don't know, there are just so many things I'm still left wondering about.

The romance was a bit too cheesy for me at first, but I really started to get into it like 60% into the story. I'm not sure why, maybe because there were some more characters and the focus wasn't as much on Michael and Lauren all of the time? I don't know, I just liked it more. There were some quite funny moments in their interactions, which I really enjoyed.
"Tell me how much you want me."
"As if you're the last piece of cake after I've eaten celery all day."

Relatable girl, relatable.

Okay, so a list of things I noticed/hated/liked;
- Writing At first I had some trouble getting into the book. There are some really long sentences in there, which made me have to reread because I kept forgetting what was even said. Take this one for example:
The rest of the evening goes without any additional close calls, but if Lauren keeps looking at me like that, with a hint of challenge in her eyes as they flit down to my lips and a quickening pulse visible in her long delicate neck when the heat I can't stop from spreading reaches my eyes, I don't know how long I can keep resisting her.

Damn, what a sentence! It can be easily divided into a few smaller ones instead. After a while I just gave up rereading them and I accepted that I forgot what the sentence was even about, so it didn't bother me, but it is something to keep in mind if you want to read it!

- The whole S.A.S.S. thing. Maybe I missed it, but did Lauren name her business? I believe it was Hattie, right? Maybe it's just me, but if you're finally making your life long dream come true (starting a fashion business), I wouldn't want someone else to name my company? I hope I just missed the fact that Lauren had already thought of the name, because that was just really weird to me.

- POV'S I loved the way there were changing POV's, I always love to know what the other person is thinking, this was greatly done in this book!

- Nicknames Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room. I hated, HATED, the nicknames!!!! Seriously, Cupcake?!?!!?!? Mikey?! Argh, they used the nicknames SO much, and they seemed really childish to me, I can't. "Get naked, Cupcake, now." I actually snorted, how unsexy is that! I just feel like either grandmas use it for their grandchildren, or you use it for a child in general. I'm still cringing.

- You and your words At first the 'you and your words' thing was cute, but it was used way too much near the end and started to bother me quite a lot.

- Cookies The way Lauren hid cookies from herself was really funny to me, so relatable haha!
"Oh, can you find the cookies I hid from myself as well?" I request. "Somewhere in the lower cabinets."

I try this too, but it somehow never works ;)

Overall conclusion
In the end, I really liked the romance between Michael and Lauren. I had some troubles with the storyline, but it was an easy read overall. I'm sorry for my annoyance with some things, I'm normally not this negative. I'm giving it 2.5 stars, 3 rounded up because I really got into the story in the last quarter! I enjoyed the sneak peek of the story about Zoe and Mac a lot, so I can't wait to read that!

“HEART-STOPPING ROMANCE GUARANTEED TO MELT YOUR SCREEN AND YOUR HEART”

This is a direct quote and the first line of Kyra Fox’s About The Author. I have never read anything more accurate than that statement.

Harmony is a standalone book in Kyra’s Dare to Desire Bookverse. We have seen bits and pieces of Michael and Lauren in previous books but Harmony is their story. What a journey we go on with these two. Kyra just keeps writing amazing couples who make you fall so in love with them that there is absolutely no way you can actually pick a favorite. Michael and Lauren seem to come from opposite sides of life - Michael is a very successful music mogul with this over the top crazy family and Lauren is essentially a down on her luck orphan trying to make her dreams come true. What we find out is that they are two people who are trying not to completely break after life continues to beat them down. Kyra has this way of weaving a storyline with all too relatable characters, mixed in with heartbreak, laughter and enough steam to make you blush. Michael is ugh so lovable and his story just makes you want to hug all the broken pieces together. Lauren is a rock star, she is trying so hard to rise above everything she has ever known and the type of friend every girl wants and needs. Seeing these two come together and bring their walls down is a beautiful adventure. You can’t help but root for their relationship. Their chemistry is off the charts and they compliment each other so perfectly that swooning is guaranteed. We get to catch up with all of the memorable characters from Kyra’s BFF Series, and we meet some new people that I hope we get to see more of in the future. It makes me sad that these people don’t actually exist IRL. If you want your heartstrings tugged, your panties melted, and a beautiful HEA you need to read this book!

Where to start describing the amazing thing that this book is without spoiling it for you all...

This is the first book by Kyra Fox that I read and one thing is for sure I'll be reading the BFF series soon.

Harmony is a wonderful story, and it is writing so good that it isn't like reading a book, but living it. It was like I was in Lauren and Micheal's shoes. I felt for them, cried, laughed with them and felt their pain like it was my own.

They both have such a horrible past that I wouldn't wish on anyone, but they are both stronger than they think they are... but is it enough?

As the romantic I am, I loved how the story went from meeting to falling in love. They have some things to get through but they have an amazing HEA.

It also has amazing sex scenes for those of you who enjoy them (and by amazing I mean sexy and erotic as hell 🔥 🔥 🔥 )

This book will steal your heart and breath but it is so worth it.
I hope to be reading more about Lauren and Micheal in future books by Kyra Fox.

Harmony is second chance romance. Kyra Fox gives us a wonderful book.. You will laugh, cry, and fall in love with the characters as you read the story. Michael and Lauren might seem to come from opposite sides of their world but fate seems different.

Michael is music mogul who has family yes a little crazy at time but family. And then there is Lauren who is a orphan that is trying to make her dream come true. As we watching them go through everything and get back up. And then found their hea.. It’s a really great read.

Kyra Fox gives us great characters and show us emotions. Harmony definitely gives us a fantastic storyline. I would definitely recommend Harmony to anyone.

This romance certainly gives you lot of feels and I loved every minute of it. Lauren and Michael have both suffered and were broken shadows of themselves. Their balance is perfect and the intense chemistry makes you keep page turning wondering how it will all play out. How they overcome tragedies and self doubt makes you love these characters even more. I need to read more from this author and would recommend this story be on your tbr list.

To say this book is filled with steamy sex scenes doesn't do it justice. And honestly, I'm simply not great at writing reviews, mostly because I hate giving anything away. So believe me when I tell you Harmony just made my favorites lists, as did Michael Edwards, the hero of this book.

And oh, what a hero he is!

Not that Lauren (the heroine) is a slouch by any means, and their story is just as wonderful and full.

Kyra Fox is the queen of sex scenes, hands down, (in my opinion) as hers are sensual, sexy, erotic, and full of emotion. And that last is what truly sets her apart. She gives the reader the absolute fullest, soul-deep, deep POV I’ve ever experienced. And yes, I don’t mean READ but experienced, as I always feel I’m right there with Kyra Fox's characters, every step of the way.

Harmony is a spin-off of the BFF series, and as an added treat, the reader gets to revisit all those characters we love and will never get enough of. And I can't wait to get more of Lauren and Michael in Kyra's future books, along with the rest of the BFF gang.

Bravo, Kyra Fox for another story I will read again and again.

This is my first book from this author. I have not read other books before this one, which I will be doing.
I enjoyed the story; Kyra does such a good job at making you feel like its real-life situation happening today. Very relatable.
Michael and Lauren find themselves be roommates for a short amount of time. They know there is an expiration date. Both characters have a lot of respect for each other and an understanding of each’s others past. This really helps their story flow. You feel their struggles and growth through the story.
I did struggle in the beginning connecting with the characters and other references to different characters. I probably would have connected sooner if I had read the books before this one.
Kyra’s other books are now on my TBR list now and look forward to meeting the others from the series. I would recommend reading “Harmony” to anyone who likes a HEA and some good sex!

Kyra Fox is the queen of tender romance novels. The male characters she writes are always so aware and considerate even when they are in a state of crisis or confusion...it’s so different from the toxic male we can see idealized in some romantic novels.

Michael is Trista’s brother (from the BFF series) and the head of Carrot Top records. He falls for Lauren a budding fashion designer. Their relationship starts off as a forced proximity and turns into a mutually beneficial business relationship that grows from there. Great banter between the two and they are both such good humans! I was rooting for them the whole way!

✔️friends to lovers
✔️tragic backstory
✔️only one bed/forced proximity 😂

Harmony was a very cute, fun read. I adored the relationship between Michael and Lauren, especially their instantaneous chemistry and the way they became quick friends.
I love reading books with the forced proximity/ roommates and friends with benefits trope. Michael was so easy to fall in love with and I think he was genuinely my favorite part of the book. Every time he blushed I smiled because it was so unexpected from the tattooed “bad boy”.
My main complaint about the novel was that in the beginning of the book I thought their relationship would be an instant-love one and found it hard to get into because of it. Also, For as much as Lauren acted like she was part of a found family, I think I would have liked to see more of that instead of it being implied.
