I wrestled my attention back to Sawyer. He’d been quiet far too long, leaving me to wonder what he was thinking. That was a doorway into lunacy I wanted to avoid. Was he suspicious? We were all suspicious of newcomers, but Sawyer... Some days I’d call him paranoid. Reckless the next. Careless the following. And sometimes it changed hour-by-hour or minute-by-minute. That was one of the ways he maintained his power and authority—always being unpredictable and turbulent. What was he plotting? Caine shifted his gaze, first to me, then to his friend. Sawyer finally relented. “Who have you ridden with?” Trent’s stare didn’t waver. “My uncle taught me to ride before....” He glanced down. "He was with the Brothers of the Wheel until they dissolved." “Dissolved?” Sawyer laughed. “What a political way of putting it.” He lowered his tone. “They were slaughtered, worse yet, it was someone on the inside.” Trent grimaced. “I’ve been laying low. Hard to move on when there’s no one to trust and no family to fall back on. My uncle always wanted me to join BOW, and working in the shop with Caine and Cannon has given me a piece of that brotherhood he always spoke of. Ignited my hunger for more.” He was good. So good, I almost puked. Somewhat believable, but no one around here said what they meant. Laying out all your cards was always a bad idea. If you didn’t keep secrets close to the vest, first you lost your edge, then your life. Always have a backup weapon. Never lie to a brother, but guard your secrets, and equally important, guard everyone else’s. I excelled at the secrets game, after all, that’s the only way I managed to get a patch in this male-dominated circus. “Well, Trent, are you up for a run?” Sawyer asked. His voice had lost that grating, barking tone. My eyebrows shot upward. Mother fucking incredulous jackass. From the look on his face, I guessed he made the offer just to screw with me. But I couldn’t believe the rat bastard would choose a Prospect over me on such an important run. Then again, I could believe it. Not like it was anything new. I had to bite my tongue. Pick your battles, I reminded myself. Choose the situation and audience with care or the punishment will be far worse. I had to carefully balance what I intended to gain with what I would certainly lose, and this battle wasn't worth it. One day. One day... “Yes, sir.” Trent smirked. “Anything you need.” Too eager. Much as I enjoyed admiring his ink, I swore that one day I’d rip out his tongue and wipe that look off his face with it. I would make this Prospect’s life a living hell. Apply for the ARC team.

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.
She-Devil was my first book by Skye Callahan. It is part six of the series Sins of Ashville. It is gritty and raw. Trigger warnings: beatings, rape, incest, drugs and guns. It definitely is for the 18+ age group. I hate to use the words "enjoyed it" because it is quite a read. Definitely worth the time though.
The story is about Brooke, a female member of the motorcycle club, Devils of Ashville. She tries to be one of the guys and has risen in rank to Treasurer. It is all she knows. Her father is the president of the Devils. The men do not respect her, her father included. A woman's place is as an old lady or a plaything.
Trent is a new prospect with the club. He is also an undercover cop, trying to stop the guns and drugs. He immediately gets on Brooke's bad side. He might be able to use to his advantage except he is having feelings for her and he is protective towards her.
The tough, sarcastic biker chick and the undercover cop are not your typical couple but they work. They both have scars from life but Trent sees the woman underneath the pain. These two characters are written well and while not perfect I came to care about them.
The story moves fast, never a dull moment. It is action, mystery, thriller on top of a romance. This book is interconnected with the previous books but they don't have to be read first. If you are looking for a sweet romance, this definitely is not the book for you but if you are not easily offended, this story is great.
I haven't read a really good MC story in long time and this one makes up for it!!! Brooke and Trent's story is a fast-paced, crazy suspenseful and intense hot chemistry story!!! The story is dark, raw and intense but you won't be disappointed. I volunteered to review this story.
Part 1 of this dark book from the world of Skye! Brooke is the daughter on the MC’s president. Abused and ready to take control of her own life, Brooke wants revenge. Will she get it? Can’t wait for the rest of this story!!
This book had such potential and it was not that far from reaching it, but sadly for me the plot and romance fell a bit flat. Not horribly flat or anything, but it just didn’t pull me in like a good story should, which was a shame since it had a stellar start.
The story opens immediately with Brooke and her unusual lot in life and all she had to go through to get where she was as Treasurer in a biker gang. Her tough attitude and exterior built her character very well and drew me in to the horror of what happened to her, what made her so high tempered. Then we had Trent who I already got to know from previous books, so I was already excited to see his own story unfold. Here is were the excitement ends though, for while I can’t say that the story ever was boring it didn’t really have anything that pulled me in after that impactful start.
The story, while very eventful felt like it was a bit stuck. I mean the major conflict in the book gripped me when Brooke was treated unjustly and when she had to fight for her place in a world that looked down on her and abused her. This was the only thing that really drew me in though and I think the romance was mostly at fault for that. I couldn’t see the chemistry between Brooke and Trent and considering the romance was one of the biggest aspects of the story, aside from Brooke’s mistreatments, this of course affected the execution of the plot.
I felt that their personalities were way too polar opposites and they never really met in the middle or complemented each other. Brooke was too bitchy, which in a way was understandable considering her upbringing, but she never fully let that facade drop enough for her and Trent to actually connect on any deeper level. And Trent, well, he was too mellow. He took everything in stride, never got angry or upset, never argued or fought back. He was just there to either say the perfect thing for Brooke to hear or take her insults with no issues. While they did have their deeper moments that I liked, their personalities always got in the way at some point.
Since the romance didn’t live up to my expectations I had only the plot to look at, meaning the undercover job and Brooke’s revenge. I don’t know if I perhaps zoned out and missed important information, but it was never fully clear to me what was going on, like what the plan was for both cases, especially the revenge. And the conclusion felt unfinished since I never found out the plan for said revenge and also whatever happened to Cannon. He was built up as a father figure that failed Brooke, so I thought they were going to have it out or maybe work it out, but nothing.
Despite that however, I am happy with the ending in terms of Brooke and Trent making up and their HEA, even Brooke moving on from her traumas. It was also exciting to see all previous main characters again as a sweet goodbye to this world and series (assuming this really is the last book). Three stars.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Even though this book is a standalone, I loved reading it in order in the series and knowing everything that happened in the previous books mentioned in this one (though it definitely can be read as a standalone). I haven’t read a book quite like this one before but I loved every page of it, there was everything you could want in a Skye Callahan book. I loved getting more of Trent and a story about him after he appeared in previous books (although, again, it can be read as a standalone). I loved Brooke right from the start with her kick a** persona. I enjoyed that she gave what she took plus so much more. My heart did break for her, especially towards the end of the story and everything she has been and is going through, and her strength didn’t break one bit with Trent sticking by her side. I would’ve loved for Brooke to get more revenge and to actually find out what her brother’s notes meant. I thought Brooke and Trent were perfect together. Their characters just seemed made for each other. I loved the give and take they both had and using it on one another, the stubbornness and the determination rivalling each other made for a really good read as well as all the drama and action. I enjoyed how neither of them gave up even through their weaker moments. I would definitely love to read more about Brooke and Trent, I absolutely loved their story.
Though this was the first I've read in the Ashville series (though book 1 is on my TBR), I didn't feel like you needed to read the rest to follow this story, though there are a few snippets from past couples. I haven't read much MC romace before, and I suspect they're the sanitized versions, more like an 'MC with good intentions". The Devils are more like what I'd imagine a MC is like IRL: dirty, gritty, amoral, especially with the way women are treated. Reading about Brooke's treatment is really unsettling, but she was a worthy adversary of the Devils' other officers. She was a great, multi-faceted, believable heroine. Sometimes you even want her to be more soft, like in her interactions with Trent, but then I had to remind myself: why should she be? Trent, I didn't get as good of a read on. And I don't know anything about real MCs, but would they trust a Prospect that quickly? Brooke and Trent together are sweet, though, in a way you can believe would develop naturally. I do wish there'd been more followup on the comeuppance of certain members, but if you want a dark, more 'realistic' MC romance, I'd recommend this one.
Trent’s story is one that will captivate you and keep you turning pages from start to finish. Brooke’s life with the MC is extremely harsh and often difficult to read about, but the chemistry between the two is intense and will keep you thoroughly engaged. It’s a dark romance you won’t want to miss.
