Lifelong loner Yakima Henry unexpectedly befriends Paul Cahill, an old prospector with roots in a once-wealthy Eastern family. When Cahill is mortally wounded by men stalking his and Yakima’s trail, Cahill asks Yakima to travel to northern Dakota Territory and deliver a letter and a belt stuffed with money to his estranged son.
On his trip north, Yakima befriends two young sisters whose mother has died and who, escaping an abusive stepfather, are trying to make their way north to their grandparents’ farm along the Cannon Ball River. Heading into owlhoot-infested Dakota Territory is no nap in the shade for Yaikma alone but traveling with two complicated young women is no picnic, either.
When an Irish countess seduces Yakima, enflaming her husband’s jealous rage, and the bounty-hunting assassin called The Reverend stalks Yakima’s and the girls’ trail, Yakima comes to believe that when his friend Paul sent him north to Dakota, he’d really been sending him hell-bound!
“The west has a bonafide superhero and his name is Yakima Henry.”
Peter Brandvold has written well over one hundred action westerns under his own name and his pseudonym, Frank Leslie. Born and raised in North Dakota, he has lived all over the West. He currently lives in western Minnesota with his dog. Follow him at Amazon and here peterbrandvold.blogspot.comand here: facebook.com/peter.brandvold.
This is a well written book that’s full of action and showcases Yakima Henry what is my favorite western hero. He’s a tough, half breed hombe who takes no nonsense from anyone. After promising a late friend that he would travel to North Dakota to take a letter and his friends money to his son, Yakima starts his journey. On the way, he rescues two girls and decides to accompany them to their grandparents home. He gets into to several difficult situations trying to keep the girls safe and it makes for an an interesting and entertaining story.
Yakima is always in the midst of trouble, big heart, see’s more in humanity than humanity doesn’t see in him? Always looking out for the people in need! Goes out of his way to assist regardless of cost! For the most part, men like him were the staunch, brave humans who looked to help all in need! Building this country to its future outcome! Yakima is what humanity needed to continue growing in what this country can and will become!!
I have read all 4 books and I'm a very loyal fan of Yakima but this was one of my favorites. It shows the real person under the tough exterior .Very well written as all of Peter Brand kid's stories are I sure hope more stories will be coming as Yakima continues to ride.
I really liked reading this book, I like western stories so this was right for me. The rescue of the two young girls was an added twist to most western novel's . it did not take long to read this book because it captures your interest and keeps you reading to find out what's next.
Excellent yarn I am sorry it is over. Yakima Henry is what every good man aspires to,tough, virile and yet a heart of gold. He is a man of courage and integrity I hope another tale of his life is in the mill I have downloaded the other tales Peter Brandvoid has written.
I have read all of this series and I enjoyed them all. Yakima’s moral attitude is really tested in this book. I would have liked more details at the conclusion of the book but other than that, good read, keeps you interested as does of the author’s books.
This was a good read as are all Yakima Henry stories. The first thing that comes to mind is how Yakima is perceived, as rough and tough but this shows a moderate side and it fits.
The story is gripping & fast paced to keep the reader glued. The only con looks to be in an outlawed man regularly besting all odds, the Marshals, the lawmen etc. In actual life he would get killed or captured before long.
How could a tough half breed have such a big heart.
Brand old knows how to write. This book delights in the tough wild west and the progress of change. Although tough as any half breed could be, this story develops the lighter side of life. Well done, Brandvold.
I'll admit I love everything Peter Brandvold writes but this book of this series has been my favorite! It made me laugh, and smile. It showed a tender side of Yakima but was still action pack and as always fast passed!
A soft 4. Overall a good read though I gave myself a headache from rolling my eyes every time yet another woman threw herself at Yakima's feet. How hot was this guy?
Interesting tale of old west morals (helping because you can). A few cuss words (d) which stop quickly. Like the main character who is new to me. Narrator is gentle voiced and clear.
