Fans of Angie Hockman and Sarah Hogle won’t want to miss this enchanting, funny, and sexy novel that takes you inside the heart of the world’s magic—and warms your heart as the resident Fairy Godmothers seek to expand that magic through the power of love…
SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE CURSE . . .
Disgraced wedding planner Zuri Davis is so relieved to be offered a job with Fairy Godmothers, Inc., she's willing to trade the high-rise excitement of Chicago for the small-town charm of Ever After. Falling for one of her grooms, even unintentionally, was enough to destroy her career--and also to prove that all men are indeed frogs. But when she meets gorgeous B&B owner Phillip Charming, who definitely lives up to his name, even she is tempted to test that theory . . .
AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE CURE
Three hundred years as a frog by day and himself by night, is enough to test any man's patience--even if Phillip knows he deserved Petunia's curse. It certainly taught him not to mess around when it comes to making promises. And stubborn, proud Zuri is a woman he'd like to promise his heart and everything else to--if only he weren't a sometimes-frog. Can he hope for True Love's Kiss from a woman whose trust has been so thoroughly broken?

Whenever I review a book that I win in a giveaway, I never read all the hype on the cover so I can go in with a clean slate. That being the case, I cracked open "Men are Frogs" not even sure of the genre. As I started reading about magic and wedding planning, my first impression was that this was kind of cute and suitable for younger teens. But as I read on, imagine my shock as the swear words started popping up along with the references to sex. Now don't get me wrong, it isn't anything I haven't heard before. It is just that I was disappointed that this was not what I expected, for I imagined my daughter or granddaughter stumbling across this at an inappropriate age.
I was fooled by the cute cover and the adorable fairy godmothers. This may have been a magical romance, but hearing the fairy godmothers swearing like bikers or talking of wet panties when I wasn't expecting it was mildly offensive. Heck, I wanted the magic of a real romance and not one of those Disney type movies that they try to appeal to all ages by having a cute kid in one scene and some guy fondling the ho in the next. Come on, man, keep it clean or keep it dirty.
Being disappointed as stated above, I became a little critical. The story itself was okay, and held my attention, and there was a beautiful moment towards the end. It just seemed like there were far too many pages of meaningless or small talk conversation that were to me like filler material. The author could probably cut out 50 pages or make it more interesting. But that is just my opinion.
Men are frogs is a fairy tale retelling which is cute, sweet, funny, enchanting, sexy and full of magic!
Phillip Charming aka the Prince Charming is cursed by favorite fairy godmother, Petunia for reasons I shall not tell. For a long, long period of three hundred years, by the day Phillip is a frog and through the night, a prince. Then comes in town of Ever After is Zuri Davis. A wedding planner who almost lost the faith in love. Why? Reasons I shall not tell. For that reasons, Zuri is of belief that - men are frogs.
When they meet, sparks fly (quite literally too at the end of the book!). But can Zuri's True Love's Kiss save Phillip?
The title is what made me read this book. Yeah, it is funny! After reading the first book in the series, I knew the setting of the magical town of Ever After with all of its magical characters. I was having second and third thoughts, but the title... it made me read it. And, somewhere I am glad I read it. The characters are adorable. The romance is cute and sweet and cliché. The writing and the setting is quite clever. I would like to reiterate what I said in earlier review - if I would have read it while I was ten years younger, I would have loved it crazy. Now... a bit less.
But, there are certain things that stuck with me - "It’s not about finding someone who is perfect, it’s about finding who is perfect for you." "He’ll have angels and demons just like all of us, only his will fit with yours.” "If fate has to move things around to put you where she wants you, you will definitely not enjoy the ride.” "Fate will teach him his lessons. That’s not for us to do. We spread the love. Not the lessons." "You’ll see in time that when you do things for them, they don’t learn the lessons that they need to make the right choices."
Well, despite everything, I still fancy the series and can't wait to see what the trio of mischievous meddling matchmaking fairy godmothers have in store for Juniper and Tomas!
This is an entertaining, well written romance novel. It has likable, diverse characters, magic, humor, fairy tale characters, including Price Charming, a heartwarming romance, and of course, a happily ever after ending.
Men Are Frogs is such a fun book! It has a fairytale romance with a true Prince Charming, a wedding planner with a heart of gold, a love story that will make you smile, and friendships that will warm your heart.
Zuri Davis is a wedding planner whose personal life and career took a hit when she found out her boyfriend was actually the groom in a wedding she was planning. She isn’t sure she believes love is in the cards for her when she is offered the position of wedding planner in the small town of Ever After, Missouri. Zuri has a tight bond with her twin, Zeva, but otherwise she’s quite lonely. She’s charmed by the magic of Ever After, although how magical the place is she doesn’t know at first. I adored watching her make friends with the residents of her new home (the strong female friendships in this book are fantastic). I wanted to hug Zuri and let her know she is definitely fit for the happily ever after she gives to others. She’s kind, generous, and truly listens to people. And though she’s done kissing metaphorical frogs to find her prince, maybe she needs to give an actual frog a chance.
Phillip is a frog prince – literally. He’s been cursed for nearly three hundred years to be a frog by day, only getting to be his Prince Charming self at night. I liked that Phillip has already done some growth at the beginning of the story. He apologizes and means it to the fairy godmothers he wronged, not because of what happened to him but because of what he did. He’s a good man with a kind heart and a sense of humor. I liked seeing his friendship with the beastly Hunter and to see him open himself up to more bonds of friendship with beings that others may be wary of. He and Zuri are a perfect match and they click from the very beginning. Both of them become their best selves over the course of Men Are Frogs and I liked how Saranna DeWylde tested them and their burgeoning relationship in an organic way. Zuri and Phillip are a couple you can root for and though some might not enjoy the insta-love aspect to their romance, I didn’t mind because it’s a fairytale, so why not?
Men Are Frogs delighted me from beginning to end. It’s an adult fairytale with charm, humor, and quirkiness. I cannot wait to see who fairy godmothers Petunia, Bluebonnet, and Jonquil pair up next!

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ever since I devoured Fairy Godmothers, Inc., I was honestly really intrigued with what was going to happen next in their little sequel. Well, have no fear because I got this one as an ARC as well and it did not disappoint folks. Or maybe I'm just a little bias because I absolutely love retellings.
When you give all your heart into love and then love is like "Nah, bro - not for me" that definitely feels like it would hurt. So when we get to meet the main characters and see what their lives are like.. well, it's pretty obvious who was hurt in the love situation.
Prince Charming is cursed by Petunia, a Fairy Godmother, and is currently living the life of a frog. But not really. Think of the movie 'The Princess Swan' or maybe even of Princess Fiona in Shrek. The reason why is because he's not a frog full time. Nope, he's only a frog during the day and then he becomes a human prince at night.
Then there's Zuri, a wedding planner who basically has zero faith in love at the moment. Now these two were pretty funny and their chemistry took me a while to see. I think it's because I kept thinking back to other movies, characters, or books that I could help relate to the characters or the storyline. Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoyed everything about Men Are Frogs.. it just took me a while.
In the end, it was very cute and I definitely need more from these pesky fairy godmothers! I just feel like they have more up their sleeves.
This book had a lot of potential to be a sweet, fun, modern day take on some fairytales. I enjoyed the premise of the Fairy Godmothers running a wedding planning business in the town of Ever After. I love the idea of fairytale characters living in a town with magic in the middle of the real world. I didn't, however, care for the main love story in this one. It was meant to be a retelling of the princess and the frog, which in itself is a silly tale. I thought the dialogue was clunky and very simple. It didn't feel at all realistic and there was simply no chemistry between any of the characters. I was not a fan of the fairy godmothers cursing and the sexual content was a bit too much for me in this kind of story. It didn't seem to fit at all. Overall I gave it 2 stars. It was an ok read, but I won't continue in the series and wouldn't recommend it to others.
This is the cutest fairytale retelling that won't satisfy Grimm's devilish taste but gave my heart a gentle squeeze. Thank you so much for sending my the ARC. I guess you can judge from the title which fairytale it is. Well, the frog made the fatal mistake by courting two fairies at the same time and rightfully earned his curse. But the fairies who cursed him didn't quite know how to cure the curse, even though they already forgave him as he has become a better person. They are even planning to make a frog kissing booth, partly to attract tourists (w.h.y.), partly to save him from turning to a frog eternally. - Zuri is a wedding planner who believed in happily ever afters, but her faith was crushed after realising that her boyfriend was als the groom of a wedding she was planning. They came into the realization during the wedding, and the bride lit her dress on fire with the ceremonial candle (what a queen). She moved to this town called Ever After, met this guy, only to realise that she's allergic to amphibians. - I don't have much to say about the romance except how cute it is. The side characters are totally adorable too. The beast is like a giant teddy bear in the story. I love how there's no female rivalry to win someone's heart, and the women are caring for each other. The bride didn't blame Zuri for they are both victims of a trash guy who ruined their lives. There's an Evil Queen in the book and I have a massive girl crush. She's terrible and loves to be horrifying, has flying monkeys at her castle, but she's also so sweet. I hope she gets her own book. Oh and the magical castle feels like a lovely old girl to me. Idk if she counts as a side character. - I would recommend anyone who's in a mood of a sweet fairytale retelling and not in a mood for gender stereotypes to read it. It brought me so many smiles and I hope it does the same magic for you too.
Lured by the premise of a modern version quaint fairy tale retelling of the princess and the frog I had great hopes from this book, unfortunately this time, most of them felt short of the mark. It started out with Zuri a wedding planner whose career literally went up in smokes when her boyfriend turns out as the groom in a wedding she was planning, and the bride in reaction set her dress on fire. She arrives in the magical town of Ever After, in hopes of joining the Fairy Godmothers, Inc.
In Ever After she meets Phillip her prince charming and owner of a magical B&B. They are almost instantly attracted to each other, but there is a serious hitch, Philip spends half his days as a frog and he has very little time left to reverse the curse. If the curse doesn't break before the dreaded deadline he will become a frog permanently, a fate he is naturally desperate to avoid.
The writing style veers towards the cozy and philosophical instead of the wit and comedy I was hoping for. On top of that the banter was rather clunky and some of the dialogue felt very superfluous. Those extra dialogues often slowed things down plot wise and did not contribute much to character development, or maybe they were trying to fill in for the absence of the plot.
All in all, this was a 2.5 for me, because there was potential in the background and some of the side characters like Hunter (the hero's best friend) and Ravenna the not so evil fairy.
Thank you to Netgalley and Zebra Books publishing company for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.
Ok, firstly, fair warning; I fell in love with the town of Ever After and its characters in, ‘Fairy Godmothers, Inc so was predisposed to enjoy this title too, except, if possible, I think that I enjoyed it even more.
Philip Charming, B&B owner and part time Frog Prince (yes, he’s that Prince Charming) is desperately seeking a cure for his froggy curse; enter Zuri Davis who is desperately seeking to reestablish herself... Add in three and a half, mischievous, meddling, sugar addicted Fairy Godmothers and you get another rollicking romance.
The author has written a fantastic fairytale romance and I was left hanging out for the next title in the series.
*Please note: can be read as a standalone but some references would make more sense, and be more humorous, if you read the series in order. So do yourself a favour and buy/order them all.*
It was by coincidence I discovered the first book in this standalone series and it’s because of my love for this charming town and all things magic that I consumed book 2 in a day!
Ever After is not your normal town and it makes my fairytale loving heart happy beyond belief! I love the way DeWylde mixes the most beloved child stories and brings them to light for my adult heart!
Phillip and Zuri’s story is a beautiful one and I love the promise of more and more stories to come especially after getting to know the town you want them all to have their HEA!
A must read for any adult who loves fairytales and still believes in magic!
It takes me a few chapters to get into it but once I do then I just go along for the ride of a weird, pararnormal lighthearted fairytale. I like the characters & they have good chemistry. My one negative is that the writer leaves several loose ends w/her supporting characters & their romance plot lines. (ie. Hunter/Zeva, Gwen/Roderick, Ravenna/Hansel, Rosebud, etc.) While I enjoy the H/h stories, I'd like a little completion/follow-up on the others.
There are a plethora of fairytale retellings out there, and I will be adding this book to the fun-and-fantastic pile. The initial vibes I got from this story was a mixture of Once Upon a Time, Fractured Fairytales, and Into the Woods. It was easy to identify the source material, but DeWylde put a fresh and modern spin on it.
I have not read the first book in this series, so this was my introduction to Ever After, Missouri. What a delightful place! I loved the idea of this enchanted town with magic stores filled by love. I adored all the descriptions of Ever After, and it was a pleasure meeting each and every quirky inhabitant. All these things were wonderful, but it was the romance that won my heart.
Prince Philip had suffered from a curse for 300 years. That’s right, for 300 years Philip lived his days as a frog and his nights as a man. The curse could only be undone by True Love’s Kiss, and Philip was hoping that kiss would come from Zuri. Though Zuri was trying to resist her attraction to Philip after her last disastrous relationship, she could not fight fate.
These two were precious together. The chemistry was great, but it was more about how they understood each other and really saw below the surface. Their interactions ranged from steamy to super sweet, and I easily shipped them. I wanted fate to have its way. I wanted Zuri to be the cure. I wanted them to spend eternity together.
Great couple, great spin on all those fairytales I know and love, and so, so funny. I really needed something cute and adorable that would lift my mood, and this book did the trick. Though I spent most of the book smiling or laughing, there was a part toward the end that moved me to tears. Don’t worry though, they were the good kind because what was happening was so beautiful.
Overall: I had such a wonderful time on my first trip to Ever After, and I cannot wait to return for more magic and mayhem!
This is the second book in the Fairy Godmothers, Inc. series. I loved it! Such a great concept, residents of the town are fairytale characters, including a lonely part-time prince/frog who needs a kiss from his true love to break his curse. I laughed so hard throughout the book! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
In the town of Ever After, magic and fairy godmothers are real, Prince Charming is a frog all day and a prince at night, and Zuri Davis has just taken a job as a wedding planner. Zuri has to leave her old stomping ground of Chicago after planning the wedding from hell - turned out the groom was also Zuri’s boyfriend and the bride took her dress off and set it on fire when she found out. What Zuri doesn’t know is that the magic is real and the three fairy godmothers are about to start some serious meddling in her life.
This is the second in a series and if you haven’t read the first (as I haven’t) you’re going to spend the first couple of chapters at least wondering who all these people are that are constantly being talked about but never actually appear in the book. Honestly, this put me off right from the start. You don’t need to rehash the previous book unless the events and characters from it are going to play a major part in this one, and they clearly don’t. Then the fairy godmothers spend a whole bunch of time working on another romantic couple… who are also not the focus of this book. This is all filler and it just needed cutting completely. We could have started with Zuri leaving Chicago and then arriving in town, and had all the magical stuff going on behind her back; it would have been a much more interesting start and got me invested in Zuri from the beginning.
Because of this false start, it took me ages to get into the story - I was past the 50% mark before I finally thought, yes, I’m enjoying this. There really is a good story in here, Philip is an adorable hero - the player who’s grown up - and I was delighted by Zuri and her twin Zeva. I liked that the fairy godmothers tried to be facilitators rather than managers, insisting that those they helped had to have agency, and that was the way True Love worked as well. Philip and Zuri had to have faith and choose to put each other first.
There are some great characters who are obviously going to get their own happily ever afters later in the series - Ravenna the Evil Queen, Hunter, Zeva and more, but honestly my favourite side character was Esmeralda the flying fox. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a snarky familiar.
There are some really odd intimate scenes in here too. Some things are really explicit but then when it gets down to the ‘action’ suddenly everything descends into euphemisms and it’s all over in a paragraph. I can’t even figure out whether I would describe it as open door or closed door. If you don’t like open door, you’ll probably think it’s too explicit, but if you DO like open door, I think it’ll be a bit too bland for your taste. It’s in a weird halfway slot which I suspect won’t please many.
I like a lot of things about this - the hero and the heroine, the romance, and many of the side characters - but it started in the wrong place, there’s way too much filler, I really can’t get what’s going on with the intimate scenes and I think it’s just trying a bit too hard to be cutesy. I’ll give it three stars.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley.
Welcome to Ever After, Missouri! Here you’ll find residents such as Phillip Charming, Hunter (aka the Beast), Hansel, Ravenna the Evil Queen, and, of course, the three Fairy Godmothers.
When wedding planner Zuri Davis discovers she’s been dating the groom of one of her weddings, she’s pretty much had it with men. So she’s thrilled to land a new job with Fairy Godmothers, Inc. The town of Ever After is like none she’s ever experienced before. Her new bosses, the Fairy Godmothers, constantly push sugary treats and appear in a cloud of glitter. (𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘳!)
Phillip Charming owns the local B&B, and he is best friends with Hunter. Phillip is attractive, a Prince, and can be a bit of a jerk; hence he’s cursed. By day he is a frog, and yes, only true love’s kiss will break the spell. Of course, Zuri and Phillip find each other extremely attractive, but both have issues they need to overcome before they can give their hearts away. And there are others in Ever After who are trying to mess with fate...
𝐌𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐬 is such a fun and sassy retake on a fairy tale. I loved the Fairy Godmothers, with their meddling, sugar highs, and dropping the F-bomb. I can’t wait to see what they will be up to next.
Thank you to [partners] @bibliolifestyle and @kensingtonbooks for an invitation to the tour and gifted copies.
I won this book from Goodreads in a giveaway and was pretty excited to read it because I love a good fairytale.
Zuri is the lead female and she is a disgraced wedding planner who moves to Ever After, Missouri. This town is enchanted and full of great characters, like the fairy godmothers, an evil queen, and a frog prince. Zuri and the frog prince end up having the hots for each other but the hope of Zuri being Phillip Charming's (the frog prince) true love seem bleek because she did not break his curse and time is running out.
Cons: I found the book slightly hard to get into, however, I didn't read the first book in the series so that might be part of the problem. Also, readers should be warned that there is very strong language. I'm not afraid of swear words but this author really likes to drop f-bombs. I honestly have never read a book that talked about "f**kboy cologne" that made her panties drop. But I never have read a book that actually used the word "yeet" and this author did that too...which I didn't mind.
Pros: I appreciated all the connections to current pop culture. I also became really interested in some of the other characters like Hunter and Ravenna and would like to keep reading the series if we get to hear their stories. I love how Phillip is literally Prince Charming but has flaws so he is more relatable. And the magical castle! Oh, I would love to stay there. It gives you whatever you want....whether that's drinking chocolate or being locked in a dark room with the man of your dreams....while he is conveniently not dressed 😊 Of course the love story between Phillip and Zuri was pretty cute.
Overall, it was a cute book. If you like new spins on classic fairy tales or contemporary romance, you will like this book. 3.5 stars. I would like to keep reading the series.
3.5 - I enjoyed returning to the magical town of Ever After and the matching Fairy Godmothers. This story features disgraced wedding planner Zuri and cursed Prince Philip who spends half his days as a frog. This was a fun, dual perspective, open door romance that kept me entertained the whole way through.
Perfect for fans of The Ex Hex, modern day fairy tale retellings, unlucky at love MCs and stories full of magical realism. The second in the Fairy Godmothers Inc series, this works as a standalone and was my favourite in the series so far. I am excited to read about Hunter’s (aka The Beast’s) and Maleficient’s story. Great on audio.
Somehow, this book is even better than the first!! While Fairy Godmother's, Inc focused more on the meddling fairy godmothers (and who could complain about that) this book is much more focused on the love and believing in yourself. Zuri and Phillip have such a beautiful incarnation of love, and watching them work through the obstacles with the unconditional support of their friends and family was just sooooooo perfect. Not gonna lie, I was def tearing up at the end 😫😫😫.
This book is a perfect blend of witticisms, modern slang, and really beautiful advice. Half my copy is just filled with my fav quotes from "It's not about finding someone who is perfect, it's about finding who is perfect for you" from the dream twin and :I want to be terrifying. I want to be the destroyer from the deep. The end of all things. The darkness at the end!" from our favorite evil queen, every part of this story was a delight!
Also I love how woke this book is! From the girl boss Jenn criticizing the patriarchy of blaming women in the beginning to the very healthy talk about birth control and STD and other safe sex measures, Saranna really wove a beautiful story!

This is the second in the Fairy Godmother Inc. series.
Zuri Davis is a wedding planner and very excited to be offered a position with Fairy Godmothers, INC.. After Zuri fell for one of the grooms in a wedding she was planning, her career was destroyed and believes all men are frogs. In need of a fresh start, Zuri packs up and moves to Ever After to start her new job. There, she meets a handsome B&B owner named Phillip Charming. Will he prove to be a frog too? Phillip Charming is a B&B owner in Ever After and under a curse. One that can only be broken by true love's kiss. Phillip feels he deserves the curse and has learned to uphold his promises. Zuri is the type of woman he’d like to promise his heart to… if only he didn't turn into a frog during the day.
Dual POV! I love a novel that tells both sides of the story and this one does it wonderfully. This is a fairytale retelling, like Princess and The Frog. THis novel is so cute and funny. I just loved Zuri and Phillips' characters! And Ever After is a fun town to get to know. Although this is the second in the series, it can be read as a standalone, BUT readers will understand certain references better IF they read Fairy Godmothers INC. first.
Zuri Davis is hoping to make a fresh start when she accepts a new job as a wedding planner for Fairy Godmothers Inc. in Ever After Missouri. Disgraced and heartbroken, she refuses to believe in the magic that is all around her. With the help of her Fairy Godmothers and her twin sister Zeva, will Zuri learn to trust and love again in order to get her own happily ever after with Phillip Charming? Sweet, sassy, and fun, I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment of The Fairy Godmothers Inc. series.
I really enjoyed Fairy Godmothers, Inc. and the second novel of the series, Men Are Frogs did not disappoint.
This story was hilarious and I just love the fairytale elements and characters that get involved with a bit of spiciness in the mix. You have a Beast who is pining for the Evil Queen, talking cardinals and a frog prince who changes back into Prince Charming by day.
The dual point of view was great to have and always seems to win me over in the story. But I do recommend reading the initial book though to get a sense of background and history of some of the characters mentioned.
With that being said, if you’re looking for a fun paranormal read, this one is a great one to dive into.
Thank you Kensington Publishing for the gifted copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Cute story line. I won this book, which was a good thing because I’d likely not read it otherwise. It was a bit hard for me to start, but once I got rolling, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The whimsical storyline was a good change from my typical reads. I’d recommend for a change of pace.
3.5 stars. Liked this more than the first in the series. But this is a fun fairy tale world! Who doesn’t want an enchanted castle that fixes their hair every morning and delivers their favorite drink when they have had a bad day??
An enjoyable and entertaining story with a twist on traditional fairytales. I have not read book one in this series and I may circle back to it if I ever get my growing TBR list under control 😉
