Or at least, that’s what it feels like. Because she’s spent the better part of her life waiting for her best friend to realize she’s in love with him. Just when she’s worked up the courage to tell him how she feels, he returns from abroad with a hot Italian fiancé in tow.
Now, after spending half her life waiting for the wrong man, she decides its time for a fresh start—at forty. And nothing says ‘fresh start’ like a change of scenery.
But who knew that a simple day trip to Brewster, Massachusetts, would lead Simone directly into the magical world she’s always been destined for?
Surrounded by two astonishingly hot immortals, a crazy plant lady and a gnomish bookseller, Simone finds herself at the center of supernatural mystery only she can solve. But as fun as it is being in the middle of a hot man-sandwich, Simone doesn’t know who she can really trust.
Because in a world built on secrets and illusions—the true bad guys are hard to find.
Curvy and Cursed, is the first book in the Enchanted at Forty Series featuring: a sassy, imperfect heroine. A group of magical misfits. And a few handsome supernatural love interests!
For those who believe age doesn’t define you, and that there is no expiration date when it comes to finding love or fulfilling your dreams!
This was definitely a pleasant find. I wasn’t searching for this series but it popped up in my search of fall books and it definitely didn’t disappoint. A super quick but really fun read with an older FMC- which I love- absolutely a delight to have found this.
Simone has been waiting for years for the perfect time to tell her best friend Jim of her true feelings, she has waited for him to open up and tell her how he feels for her, he's given her plenty hints over the years, they spend all their time together he calls her his best girl even telling her that he loves her. Simone has decided tonight after his return from a 6 week holiday in Italy she will tell him how she feels and they can move from being best friends to the couple they are destined to be. They meet at a local restaurant. Jim has a surprise for her and it's not just the tacky keyring he has brought back his "best friend" Embarrassed and angry she decides to blow off some steam in a local coastal town. Whilst there she sees an advert for a job in the bookstore, on a whim, and needing to make some big changes in her life, when she goes in to apply the owner Ned seems surprised - even though there is an advert on the window. And the weirdness gets weirder from there, Linda, the coffee shop owner next door who makes the most sublime coffees but has more plants than the local nursery and insists they speak to her, then there are what seems to be the only customers; Chet who wants Simone to read to him whilst shamelessly flirting with her and the other Orin who blows hot and cold, and who's eyes change colour on a whim and seems to just vanish. Simone often feels like she is interrupting whispered conversations between the unlikely four and is sure they are keeping secrets from her. How will she react when they revel the truths they hold and her role in them?
This is such a good read, I was drawn in from the very start, I love how the plot is drawn out and everything is not revealed in the first chapter, we the reader are just as in the dark as Simone though like her we are aware of the undercurrents happening around her. Very cleverly written with characters you want to know more about, I highly recommend this book
Only read 27% and then stopped. Weird story with strange characters. I could tell there will be a lot of sexual innuendos if not more details. the MC didn't seem to realize that one of the "hot guys" who is cozying up to her is probably a vampire. I have no interest in reading more of the book.

Simone waited her whole life for "the one" believing her best friend, Jim, to be him. Boy was she ever wrong. She decides to drive around and ends up in a quaint little ton in Massachusetts where she stops for coffee and her entire life changes. She finds herself a job at the bookstore next door to the coffee shop. Strange conversations, people, circumstances and situations bring her into a whole new world and her new life. Sadly, Jim turns back up like a bad penny.
Great book and promising start to a new series. The story starts a little slow but sorts itself out quickly, becoming interesting and enjoyable. I am excited to read the second book. I definitely recommend this book.
I really wanted to like this as the new genre of over 40s finding magic is so intriguing, but the characters are one dimensional and dull. They barely touch on the whole set-up in the first few pages, and then this character with no back story other than her love interest is suddenly set up with a new job (did she have an old job? Any friends at all? Any interests?!) The "love story" can't decide if it's all fade-to-black or steamy so leaves you feeling unfullfilled (hardy har), and even then, the guys are little more than cardboard cutouts. About the only good part is the books. But even that gets repetitive.
Simone is finally ready to tell her best friend she is in love with him and wants to move forward in a relationship. But Jim has a surprise in store for her. Sad and frustrated Simone goes to a small town with a strange bookshop and a strange bakery owner. Two hot guys are competing for her and she now gets to work ina bookstore where only she can read the books. Jim who?
This is a good storyline about a 40 year old woman becoming aware of the paranormal world and the unique ability she has. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. The characters are well developed and the conversations flow naturally. I can't wait for the next book to see how the story progresses!
I love romance in any genre. Almost stories all star twenty somethings. As we live life; we go through disappointments, unfilled dreams/fantasies, love, disillusioned realities. It a welcomed read about characters older than twenty finding romance, love and possible adventures. Thank you.
I give up with this story which reads like a teenager wrote it. It had so much potential but there was no droth to it, just very superficial.
The actual story was plodding then the big reveal, was revealed in the most ridiculous manner, it was like watching a cheese hallmark Christmas movie but even worse.
I couldn't even finish this one. I'm giving two stars because it's written well. But my god, there is no communication between our main characters. Just a lot of gaslighting. I'm supposed to like these people? If you prize communication in some respect between your characters, I wouldn't read this book.
"I noticed some talk about the plot being 'juvenile,' but I didn't see it that way at all. It’s just a light, fun romantic story. I'm a genre-hopper who reads everything from hardcore dark fantasy to non-fiction, so I love a book that allows for a bit of escapism. This delivered exactly that. If you're looking for a light romantasy to relax with, this is it. On to the next one!"
I has no idea where the story as headed and loved it. I was hooked from chapter one. This book was a bit different from a typical mystery in this genre with the story unfolding as the mystery of Simone life as the plot. I loved it!
I would of enjoyed a continuation to Simone story. I was really hoping that Simone would choose Orin, I sure would, but I see she is the balance between them. I think your next book looks really interesting
Interesting, but I don’t think I’ll finish the series.
The author seemed great, the characters were well written. It’s just not my cup of tea so to speak. The main character, who professed to be 40 seemed much younger. I think this would be a great young adult series.
I was so engrossed in this story I couldn’t put it down! I had to finish it as fast as I could cause I had to see what the end was bringing. Can’t wait to read the next one.
This story was hard to get into and just seemed disjointed. It drags out the interaction between the two men as well. Although the book ends on a cliff hanger ( nothing in the story is even slightly resolved) I will not be buying any more of this authors story.
I really enjoyed this story and am excited to see what happens next. The story is entertaining, funny, and mysterious, and it reeled me in right away. Jim is a tool, Simone is too good for him.
What wonderful characters and fascinating story! Nothing is more interesting than an imaginative, creative fantasy, it's a great way to escape an ordinary life for a bit.
DNF 80%. It started ok, then I became a bit bored, but I pushed on. However when Jim showed up again...I gave up. Literally she was best friends with him for decades and treats him like that. It was so one dimensional I quit.

The setup on this was pretty far-fetched even for me, who reads a lot of fantasy. I'm not sure if I'll read more in the series. I will leave the next book on my TBR to consider again in the future, but I don't have current plans to continue it.
What a fantastic storyline. It was so different from other stories. I do not read female romance normally, but the blurb on this book caught my attention and I could not stop until I finished it. The characters are unique and likeable. Recommend reading.
