So I just finished "Thug Matrimony" and I finally was able to take a breather. This book Definately makes you continue to turn the pages. This is the first book I've ever read by Wahida Clark, and I thought it was pretty good. I hate to read books that are not the first in the series, just because I like to know all the juicy details about all the characters before hand. In caucasian, and I LOVE hood books. I was born in an urban community myself, so reading urban books come naturally to me. I can relate to these books more than any regular fiction book. When I picked this book up in the library, read the flap, I knew this was right down my alley . Usually, I give most hood books 5 stars, UNLESS I'm not digging one of the main characters. In the case of this book, I was not feelin Angel at all. She is the type of female that I would not associate with on the streets. She thinks she's the baddest walkin, when really, theirs women that slay her all day long. I don't mind a female who is egotistical in some books, but Angel thought she was hardcore gangster. It gets under my skin when females try to play that "Bonnie and Clyde" role in real life, just to impress their man. Next thing you know, she goes down, and her man gets out of it. Stupid broads. In this book, Angel is stalked by "Snake" her ex. In the beggining, he crashes hers and Kaylins wedding. Throughout the book, dude is obsessed with Angel. I don't see why. She ain't nothing special. Kaylin was just as egotistical as Angel, so I guess their perfect for each other. I liked Angels homegirls though, but I couldn't stand her little grimey little sister. Sleeping with Angels sloppy seconds and snorting coke off his manhood. Real Classy Carmen. This book was filled with drama from beginning to finish. What pissed me off, is lil E got shot three times in the stomach, meanwhile Angel don't have a clue, and is in the hospital having her baby. If she cared so much about Lil E, then why did she not have protection with Lil E wherever she went? especially knowing Phillip Johnson punk ass had a hit on her head. She was just a child, pregnant with his baby, while Angel stole lil E right under his nose, and signed her to Angel and Kaylin record label. Knowing she was an upcoming star with a hit on her head, Angel should have protected that girl better than she did. Angel did some slick shit. She treated Kaylin like shit for a while, yet he deserved it. Kaylin was acting like any regular thug would, if he thought his soon to be wife still had feelings for her ex. I was tripping when Angel went an seen snake in the end. I was confused, cause I thought she was dedicated to Kaylin. I should have known her sneaky ass was gonna play snake like a fiddle, and she did. She did some hardcore shit to that dude. She poisoned him with oil she rubbed all over her body, an made snake lick all over her, thinking he was gonna get some. That was some slick shit right there. I thought she was going to sleep with snake again, so I was calling her all kinds of names lol. She made snake think he was finally gonna get in them panties again, but she really set his ass up and killed him. The female way. That shit was raw. probably the best scene in the book. I liked Angel a little bit more after that. I'm sure if I read all the other books before this, that I would have a better feel and understanding as to why Angel was the way she was in this book. I thought Kaylin was gonna catch Angel and snake sexing each other, and was waiting on him to put a bullet in both of them. That twist was really good. Kaylin walked in on Angel beating Snakes head in. Angel killed her own sister. I felt no sympathy for Carmen at all. She got what she deserved ol grimey bitch. That's what you get for getting involved in shit you don't know nothing a out. She wanted to be Angel so bad, that she was willing to do anything just to be with snake. Snakes punk ass. Phillip Johnson ass needed to be dealt with too. I liked the la familia. Gave me an insight into the mafia, and I really enjoy books that do that. Another thing I didn't like, was Angel and Kaylin would talk shit about the people they signed to their record label. These rappers and performers are making y'all money, and y'all have the audacity to do some sheisty shit behind their backs? Not cool. Angel needed her ass beat by a female in the book sometimes. Whooping on a dude will get you fucked up, I'm sorry. Trying to play badass to the wrong thug will get you fucked up. Sorry. Overall, this book kept me entertained. The sex scenes got kinda steamy at times, and I enjoyed that. Sometimes, the sex just seemed too unreal for me. Angel giving her husband blue balls is not cool lol. I felt for Kaylin when Angel was doing him like that. Thing is, What if Kaylin knew Angel got fellatio from Snake before she killed him? How would Kaylin react if he knew Snake was sucking on her toes and nipples to poison him? I know it was all part of the plan, but technically, she still cheated on her husband. She left her 5 week old baby with her husbands mother, just so she could go be half a ho and get fellatio and kill her ex. She should have let Kaylin handle that. No man should ever put his hands on a woman, so sometimes it was hard for me when Snake and Kaylin were putting their hands on Carmen and Angel. Even if I hated Angels sister, she still shouldn't have been beat up by a grown ass man. She was 17 years old! Even though I'm not a huge fan of Angel, I still can respect the fact she put her own marriage on the line to save her sister, her blood. She did that all for nothing. Carmen was too far gone on the drugs, and too far gone on Angels ex, and too far gone trying to be angel, that she didn't give a shit that her sister saved her. That's petty. I need to get the other books in this series and read them, so I know what all happened before this. I want to read the part about Angel and Snake meeting and falling in love. Theirs so many things I missed, but I still enjoyed this book. Wasn't my favorite by any means, but the drama just kept coming. I would give a better rating if I would have liked Angel better. Like I said, if I knew Angels whole story, then maybe I would have "dug" her a but more. I give this book 3 stars. Could have been 4 if Angel wasn't so egotistical. I never felt bad for her not even one time during this book. It gets 3 for effort though. I love hood books. I will do time to search for more books by Wahida.
