Acts is a tale of “two stories where the narrative of the people of the early church intersects with the story of each of our lives.” It’s a dialogue between a “God who refuses to be silent and a community that tries to listen” distilled in one verse: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). At Pentecost Peter preached in Jerusalem. Persecution scattered the early church believers throughout the region of Judea. Philip preached and cast out evil spirits in Samaria. And Paul and his disciples took three missionary journeys spreading the gospel message to the ends of the earth!
I jumped into this remarkable study with hopes that I would see a clearer picture of the early church. Author Melissa Spoelstra equips the reader with daily Scripture Focuses as well as Extra Insight sections to awaken us to more than just the rich history found in the book of Acts. She writes, “We must break free of spiritual sleepiness and awaken to God’s Spirit in everyday life if we are to accomplish the mission of sharing Jesus’s message today.” As I read and prayed through each lesson, searching the scriptures for answers, I experienced a greater awakening to God’s Holy Spirit and the urgency in advancing the gospel, whatever the cost! I was daily blessed by scripture memorization, wrap-up time, and community prayer time! The ascension, Pentecost, conversions by many to Christianity and Saul’s conversion to Paul are highlights from Acts, but these are not the only lessons found in this splendid study!
I enjoyed doing this Bible study. I have definitely learned a few things and have left understanding more about my faith. I think that this is a great Bible study. I did the whole book in 2.5 weeks, but it's meant to be a 6 week Bible study. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This is a wonderful book I would highly suggest to anyone to read. It takes a look deeper into Acts and what was going on with the early church. It can be easily applied to our lives today. It makes me want to read deeper studies into other books or the Bible.
An excellent Bible study, going through the book of Acts chapter by chapter. Thoughtful questions, relevant teaching, memorization, and application. I enjoyed the teaching videos each week, too.
