The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives

Rate this book
Meet the trophy wives of Presidio Terrace, San Francisco’s most exclusive—and most deadly—neighborhood in this shrewd, darkly compelling novel from the New York Times bestselling author of In Her Shadow.

Mystery writer Brooke Davies is the new wife on the block. Her tech-billionaire husband, Jack, twenty-two years her senior, whisked her to the Bay Area via private jet and purchased a modest mansion on the same day. He demands perfection, and before now, Brooke has had no problem playing the role of a doting housewife. But as she befriends other wives on the street and spends considerable time away from Jack, he worries if he doesn’t control Brooke’s every move, she will reveal the truth behind their “perfect” marriage.

Erin King, famed news anchor and chair of the community board, is no stranger to maintaining an image—though being married to a plastic surgeon helps. But the skyrocketing success of her career has worn her love life thin, and her professional ambitions have pushed Mason away. Quitting her job is a Hail Mary attempt at keeping him interested, to steer him away from finding a young trophy wife. But is it enough, and is Mason truly the man she thought he was?

Georgia St. Claire allegedly cashed in on the deaths of her first two husbands, earning her the nickname “Black Widow”—and the stares and whispers of her curious neighbors. Rumored to have murdered both men for their fortunes, she claims to have found true love in her third marriage, yet her mysterious, captivating allure keeps everyone guessing. Then a tragic accident forces the residents of Presidio Terrace to Has Georgia struck again? And what is she really capable of doing to protect her secrets?

Wilding entertaining and completely unexpected!

Brooke moves into a ritzy neighborhood with her tech billionaire husband. She has heard rumors about The Black Widow next door, Georgia, who had 2 husbands die shortly after marrying her. Her other neighbor, Erin, is a gorgeous TV anchor. What is going on in this neighborhood? What happened to Georgia's husbands?

This is one book that I would really enjoying reading again! It was told in multiple POV's so it was refreshing rotating between Brooke, Erin, and Georgia, and it was a quick read. This would be an excellent choice for Book of the Month especially if you want to pick up a book and chat about it with your friends. It was very entertaining and had a bit of the glimmer and glam associated with the lives of the wealthy. But is all that glitters gold? Guess you will have to find out by reading this book! The storytelling was excellent, and the characters were well-developed.

Overall, love this! Perfect to give out as a gift!

Oh well! I felt like I read something from 80’s Dynasty meets Dallas with daytime soap opera style mystery with most dislikable, self absorbed, unreliable villanelles!

I’m directly getting straight to the point opinions: we have three narrators: black widow Georgia, anchor queen, neurotic Erin King and new trophy wife Brooke! I hate the guts of Georgia and Erin who are one dimensional, caricatured, obsessed villanelles and I felt nothing about Brooke: she was so flat, boring till the epilogue.

But interestingly I couldn’t stop reading because writing style was still riveting , making me wonder what the hell those vicious bitches will get themselves into and I have to admit I was hooked when I read the opening where Georgia lies on the hospital bed, remembering snippets from a tragic car accident!

Georgia’s two husbands died suspiciously and people still think she may be involved in their deaths. Now she’s marrying again but her next husband to be is giving high alerts to us. Does he hit on Erin when Georgia is only a few feet away?

And Erin just walked out from her job, trying to adjust her life as stay at home wife, suffering from psychological breakdown, thinking her husband has an affair!

And Brooke who just moved to the neighborhood with her tech mogul husband gives us sneaky vibes. What is she hiding?

But most importantly:
What happened the night Georgia had that tragic car accident ? What was the main reason of the car crash? Who died at the crime scene?
Even though I hate the guts of the characters and I mostly found them too ridiculous too artificial too nervous, I liked the pacing of the book and final twist was the great one!

I was too close to give it 4 stars after that surprise turn of events because the artificial premise, telenovelas kind of progression turn into something like #metoomovement

But I think not only the women, I also hated the guts of the men especially Mason was a real tool! So my hate for them overshadowed
the successful wrap up!

I’m considering to give 3.25 stars ! This book was still entertaining pop corn and wine read! If you like over dramatic trophy wives reality shows who act too dramatic, throwing drinks at each other’s faces, making your ears bleed with irritating villanelle laugh, starting cat fight by scratching each other’s faces, this is fun choice to read! Okay, I’m kidding! Of course it’s more than that! At least I haven’t gotten bored for a second. It was still exciting and moving read!

I have to be honest it was not one of bad read experiences and it’s truly above the average ( last chapters were concluded satisfyingly) so I want to read more works of the author in near future. I’m so sure I’ll enjoy her next work a little more!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing / Ballantine Books for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

I enjoyed the first part of the story more than the second part of it even though the second part is where the action picks up. Getting to know the three friends, new neighbor/mystery writer, Brooke, rumored Black Widow, Georgia, and famous news anchor/thorn in the side of anyone not following the community rules to the letter, Erin, was fun, especially when they were slumming it, traipsing to the local watering hole (bar) in their workout clothes. I can't compare this to Desperate Housewives because I've never seen those shows but I did get a glitzy, catty women, Dynasty/Dallas vibe.

No one seems likeable because we get to know them and if they don't have outright faults, everyone has secrets and don't appear trustworthy. Georgia has two dead husbands in four years so her upcoming wedding is met with jokes and suspicion since her last two husbands didn't live long after marrying her. Just how much does Erin know about the death of Georgia's husbands? Brooke, the most likeable of the trio, has a traumatic past and the talk of death can bring up bad memories.

Things are confusing but once we really know what has happened in the past, I lost the light hearted, aren't they cute if you like catty, wealthy, vain women feeling. I just can't excuse what goes on and can't justify things the way the characters want to justify them. I guess I'm not in the right place for enjoying what goes on, some days I can go with the flow in a book and other days I'm not having it

In the words of Great British Bake Off’s one-time host Mary Berry:

description

I love her, and I loved this book. It’s a delicious, over-the-top, soap opera lite, Real Housewives of … in this case, San Francisco, confection, and I ate every last bite with a smile on my face. Oh, is that a crumb? I’m eating that one too.

The trio of women at the heart of this book are trophy wives Georgia St. Claire, Erin King and Brooke Davies, all of whom are married, or in Georgia’s case, engaged to older, successful millionaires and residing in the prestigious gated community of Presidio Terrace.

Georgia has a reputation as a Black Widow, since her previous two husbands died under suspicious circumstances, and now all eyes are on her husband-to-be, Robert, whose life I’m sure all the oddsmakers are setting bets on.

Erin is a well-known, prima donna anchor on a local news station, married to a prick of epic proportions, Mason. She’s becoming increasingly aware of her aging appearance, especially when younger and seemingly perfect Brooke moves into the neighborhood.

Brooke is a mystery writer, married to almost fatherly tech mogul, Jack. She’s always kind and supportive of her two new friends, but as a writer, she’s also got one eye out for her story at all times.

Suffice it to say, where these three are involved, you get a bizarre and tasty cocktail. All of them have motivations and secrets, which Miller sprinkles glimpses of throughout, enticing you to follow the breadcrumbs she’s scattered to the yummy end.

The story itself, told in first person POV by each member of this transfixing trio, primarily explores the eventful days leading up to Georgia’s scheduled wedding, with a more brief examination of what follows after, but I’m going to leave any plot points vague, because this book really is so much better if you go into it blind. All I can say is the ending is the icing on this tasty wedding cake, and I’d love more. Seconds, please?

Money does not always buy you happiness! Just ask the women who live within the walls of Presidio Terrace a gated and most elite community in San Francisco.

Brooke – newly married to her husband who is about 20 years her senior. She is a novelist though nobody takes her too seriously.

She has a way of hiding in plain sight.

She is the newest wife on the block and instantly takes to Georgia and Erin

Georgia – we can just call her the black widow. Two of her husbands have recently passed due to tragic circumstances. She is now engaged to fiancé number three. Will he survive till the epilogue?

Erin – Newscaster for the local TV station. She has a meltdown and walks away from her job. She wants to live Brooke’s seemingly simple life of a trophy wife.

But do we really know what goes on behind closed doors?

This is a very fast-paced easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed. There are some great twists at the end that completely shocked me!

If you are looking for something lite and would be a fun beach read! This is it! Happy reading!

A buddy read with Susanne!

HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY!

Buckle up for a twisted ride that is bonkers, fast-paced, and highly unputdownable!

Meet the ladies of Presidio Terrace:

Georgia St. Claire has been married two times, and both husbands met unfortunate demises. Although Georgia says she’s innocent of any wrongdoing, many people call her the “Black Widow”. She’s about to marry for a third time. She’s never been so in love. Maybe third time is the charm?

Erin King, Georgia’s best friend, is a news anchor and is also head of the Presidio Terrace Homeowner’s Association. Fed up with work, she walks out of her job and decides to spend some time being a trophy wife to her hardworking husband, Mason. Too bad he rarely has time for her.

Brooke Davies is the new gal on the block. A mystery writer, she is quickly welcomed into Georgia and Erin’s inner circle. Brooke and her husband sleep in separate rooms. She also has some secrets she alludes to. You would never know this by looking at her. She seems perfect.

In fact, all of these ladies and their lives seem perfect...but looks can be deceiving. People can be deceiving too. Georgia, Erin, and Brooke will find that out at a pre-wedding celebration that sets off a chain of dramatic, and possibly deadly, events.

Apologies for being a bit vague, but it is best to go in blind here. This book is just what I needed right now. It’s devious, scandalous, and wickedly delicious! I ate it all up and was still hungry for dessert. Told from the POVs of the three main characters, it is easy to get to know each of them...and easy to suspect each one of unsavory secrets. And secrets galore there are. Author Kristin Miller superbly reveals them throughout the story.

Some plot elements are a little over the top (not a surprise with a title like this one), but I was here for it! I wanted the drama. I wanted the intrigue. I wanted the twists. I got them all! Do these friends have any redeeming qualities? Read it and find out. This may not be for everyone, but I had a blast reading it. It would make a succulent movie or TV series.

Just like the title says, sinful lives...

This kind of sums it up! A gated neighborhood full of the beautiful and famous people that have it all! But, behind the scenes these wives are anything but conventional.

It has flavors of those ladies from Wisteria Lane, but with even more flashiness and pretentious behavior. I was hooked on the beginning, getting introduced to all the ladies and some background on how they landed their current husbands or fiances.

The story eventually winds into the neighborhood of far-fetched and implausible happenings. I still couldn't stop reading though, the pace moves quickly even with the contrived plot.

Wild and over the top! What I call a popcorn/ pool side read. A fast read to throw in the tote. I would read another from this author for another day at the pool!

3.5 rounded up!

🧼 Soapy, Sudsy, and definitely CAMPY….this book wasn’t meant to be taken seriously-it’s just meant to entertain and for the MOST part, it does.

The book opens with Georgia St. Claire in the hospital-the day after an accident. The nurses don’t realize that she has regained consciousness and can overhear their conversation about how she is the “Black Widow”-a woman whose husbands just seem to die around her! Can anybody REALLY be that unlucky?

We then shift to the week prior to the accident…

Brooke Davies, a former beauty pageant contestant with a husband who is 22 years her senior, has just moved into a house in Presidio Terrace. She just wants to get back to writing her second Murder Mystery, as she is in a slump with a deadline looming. So when her two new neighbors arrive and insist that she join them for Mimosas and breakfast, she decides why not?

Erin King is a well known news anchor who is starting to feel a bit past her prime. Her best friend, and neighbor, Georgia St. Claire is getting married this week for the THIRD time, and now this beautiful, new neighbor, Brooke has moved in. So when her co-host teases her that the lines around her eyes are showing, she walks out in a fit of rage, deciding some time off to rekindle things with her own husband, Mason, may be the solution to how she is feeling.

Georgia St. Claire has a colorful personality and a wardrobe to match. Brooke doesn’t know what to make of her, but decides that she may be just the inspiration she needs for her book-perhaps a few tweaks to the main character of her novel, loosely based her on Georgia would liven up the narrative? As Erin and Georgia joke about the deaths of Georgia’s first two husbands, Brooke cannot decide if Ms. St. Clair is wickedly funny-or just plain WICKED.

What ensues after breakfast is definitely OTT, and I can see why other reviewers have compared this to “Desperate Housewives” ! It reminded me of that show too, and TV hasn’t offered anything this much fun, since maybe, “Devious Maids” which aired from 2013-2016.

But, while those shows kept things LIGHT, the motivations of this story were a bit DARK-and I didn’t think the story needed to go there-I had an alternate scenario in mind that would’ve worked just as well.

I received an invitation from the Publisher to read this, and would like to thank Ballantine Books for my gifted copy, provided through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to offer a Candid review!

This book was fun!

Three women living lives of privilege! Let the antics begin!

Mystery writer, Brooke Davis and her older husband, Jack, have just moved into a stunning mansion in the Bay area. It is a beautiful area with interesting but doable HOA rules. She is instantly welcomed to the neighborhood by Erin King a news anchor who gave me strong Morning Show vibes. She and her husband, Mason a plastic surgeon live nearby. Soon Brooke is introduced to the infamous, Georgia St. Claire known as the "Black Widow" as both of her husbands died tragically soon after marrying her. The ladies become fast friends and ban together when tragedy hits which has some wondering "has Georgia struck again?"

What a deliciously tangled web we weave ladies! Erin looks put together on the outside but is not happy to be aging. Always noticing younger attractive women. After a meltdown on set, she walks off her job and decides she is going to be a housewife -while also hoping her employer will beg her to come back.

Georgia knows what people say about her and she does not seem to care. She even drops the word "dead" quite a bit. She too is put together and comes off as gregarious and kind but could the rumors about her be true?

Brooke is young but she is not naïve. Plus, these women have given her ideas for her current book!

This was fun and highly entertaining. For women who seem to have it all, they also have a boat load of issues as well! This was like reading a high-octane soap opera! Once the drama ball gets rolling it does not stop! This is a book to not take too seriously. It is over the top and entertaining! Pure escapism reading with a nice twist and shocking end.

Highly entertaining, dramatic and addictive.

Let me point out the obvious. This book’s title is The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives. If I’ve come across a better name this year, I don’t know what it is. And if you hear that title and are confused about what type of story lurks beneath the book’s fabulous cover, then I’ve got some CDs I’d like you to rewind for me.

How much you will end up enjoying it will depend on how much you like soapy shows like “The Real Housewives of (Who Cares),” “Desperate Housewives,” “Melrose Place,” and I’ll even toss in “Knots Landing” for the people in the back. It’s campy. It’s twisty. It’s fun.

It’s a book I liked better than the characters within it. And if you find a title with such snap, crackle and pop as irresistible as I do, there’s a good chance you’ll like it too.

My thanks to the author and Ballantine Books for providing me with an advance copy to review via NetGalley. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is now available for your beach-reading pleasure!

Presidio Terrace, a gated community outside of San Francisco, is all about glitz, glamour, secrets, lies, and of course, Trophy Wives.

It sounds almost idyllic, (HA!) unless of course, you’re one of the husbands. Then it’s downright dangerous!

For Erin, Georgia, and newcomer Brooke, three women who live in Presidio Terrace, life is about status and prestige.

Georgia is the one with a bad reputation. If you call being a new fiancée twice widowed, a bad reputation. Dubbed the “Black Widow” she can’t wait to marry Robert, who she loves with all her heart.

Erin’s life is less than stellar, though on the outside looking in, she and her husband appear to have it all. Looks as we all know are deceiving.

Though she’s new to the area, Brooke fits right in, whether her husband likes it or not.

“The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives” by Kristin Miller is a wild and crazy mystery/suspense that had a few surprises in store. Though I guessed one, the ending got me! While this was a tad over the top, I quite enjoyed it and looked forward to this author’s next release.

A buddy read with Kaceey!

Take your typical episode of The Real Housewives and translate it into this little book!
I actually thought I received the wrong book when I went to pick it up at the library-that’s how small it is in comparison to other books. 😂 So that was a really nice surprise!
I enjoyed it for the most part! It’s definitely a story with a ton of drama and catty women. If you enjoyed The Hunting Wives, you will probably enjoy this one too as they have a very similar feel.
I don’t have any complaints about it at all, but I didn’t find anything super unique or creative about it. However, it was fun to sit back and not read anything really intense for once.
This is the perfect book for you if you’re looking for a quick, easy read that doesn’t require too much thinking or detective work.

4.5 sinful stars...

Well...this was wickedly fun...or just plain wicked... 😂I could get onboard with their lifestyle...who wants to be a trophy wife...ummm...me 🙋‍♀️yeah no chance of that..anyways...don't judge me! 😂

The Presidio Terrace HOA..is nothing to mess with! If you want your neighborhood picture perfect...well here you go! When Brooke moves into the neighborhood, she finds out - that not all her neighbors are famous for the right reasons….🙄

She becomes besties 👯‍♀️ with two of the most notorious in the neighborhood..Erin King of television news anchor fame...and Georgia...aka The Black Widow.🕷…who the media is convinced has killer her last two husbands...🤭

I loved hanging out with these three women. I was pretty shocked that Brooke's husband "let" her get so close with these two...I mean..wasn't he worried?🤔

If you love drama...day drinking 🥂and a whole lot of scandal...you will love this too! My guilty pleasure is Real Housewives..yes my secret is out!! 😂Sooo of course I would love these badly behaving glam women!

Sooo run 🏃‍♀️ and get your copy! So sinfully good! 🏆 💍

This scratched the itch I’ve had since Desperate Housewives came to an end. What a fun, frothy read, perfect for summer.

Presidio Terrace, an exclusive gated community in San Francisco, where the lives of the rich and famous play out, is home to Erin, Georgia, and Brooke, the newest of the wives. There’s plenty of dirty little secrets hiding behind the perfect façade of these well-manicured lawns.

A trophy wife used to be considered a much younger wife of an older, very wealthy man, a status symbol of his power, virility, and attractiveness. But it’s 2021, and the meaning now includes women who are attractive, yes, but also successful: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-ne...

And that is what we have here with two of our three main characters.
- Georgia, aka, The Black Widow, so named after two of her husbands conveniently turned up dead shortly after the vows were exchanged. She’s the more stereotypical trophy wife.
- Erin, a local news anchor, is constantly trying to keep her youth and stay relevant in a cutthroat industry where someone smarter, younger and prettier stands ready to take her place.
- Brooke, the new wife on the block, is a successful novelist, busy at work on her second book.

When Georgia’s fiancé turns up missing, suspicious eyes turn towards her, the Black Widow. And, suddenly, this frothy read turns into a whodunit. The clues and secrets of these ladies are doled out strategically to keep me surprised and engaged throughout, flipping the chapters until the final shocking reveal. But lest you think this is all about the wives, the husbands have secrets of their own.

All of these are characters I would hate in my real life, but this isn’t real life. For a well-written, dishy soap opera that is over the top, and a dash of mystery, this is great fun!

Divas. Murder. Treachery. High drama. San Francisco. Good fun. Of course I had to read it. Kristin Miller is a new author to me, but I very much enjoyed her campy almost cult-style intensity. Three women in complicated relationships, each hiding a secret from her husband... when they all wind up living in Presidio Terrace together, tensions escalate and lead to another murder... since there were at least 2 that likely already happened before the book opened. Is it as obvious as it seems, or has a more sinister force settled among them?

Miller takes all the crazy plot points and tosses 'em together in this tale about performing one's role as a trophy wife. Erin is a news anchor married to a plastic surgeon. She's gorgeous but worries about losing her luster. Georgia has a habit of killing off rich husbands soon after they get married. Brooke's husband appears controlling and has a secret job, but she knows more than we think. When they all board a yacht for an engagement party, one of their husbands doesn't make it out alive. Who was after him? And why?

Things are not what they appear in this book. The POV switches among the 3 women, and as we learn the truth about their pasts, we discover hidden connections and double meanings in all their words. Erin's husband, Mason, is wonderful on the outside but a true horror on the inside. His character builds with each chapter until we see how much we might have misunderstood. Erin is so over the top, I laughed each time she upped the ante. I'm sure some women/wives are like this, but readers have to go in understanding this is meant to bring some humor to the situation too. I feel for her in the beginning but as her story unfolds, she's quite the mischievous one.

The best part of the novel: these characters are so larger than life and unconscionable, they will stay with me for a long time. I loved the eccentricities and intensity they bring to their days, and it reads pretty easily. A few plot points were left open-ended, and some intentional vagueness is a bit abrupt... but for me, it always comes down to a good story, clever characters, and an intriguing setting. The book has all three, and I found myself swept away in the drama, half wondering whether this could actually happen.

Familiar villains and villainesses are turned upside down, and when the book's conclusion arrives, there is a very unexpected shocker. I believe I was so caught up in the silliness that I didn't think about something that had been said in the beginning... a great surprise twist. I will look for more by the author, and I recommend this for mystery readers who love when something is just crazy enough to not be realistic but find themselves curious enough to consider the options... and if you love 80's prime-time dramas, the movie Clue, and the Real Housewives phenomena, you'll be enthralled with this one!

Fast paced, twisty and wickedly entertaining perfectly describe this scandalous story of wealth, friendship and murder. It’s told from the point of view of three women that appear to have it all. It’s soon revealed that appearances are deceiving and all is not as it seems. This book gave me “Real Housewives” vibes with a sharp, cutting edge. The final twist was shocking and unexpected. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives follows 3 wealthy women living in the exclusive SF neighborhood of Presidio Terrace. Brooke is new to town, married to a tech mogul, and working on her second book. Erin is a news anchor who’s fed up with her male coworker and wants to spend more time with her busy plastic surgeon husband. Georgia is a two-time widow, about to marry her third husband and dismissive of the notoriety she’s received because of the outcome of her past relationships.

While their lives may appear Wisteria Lane-esque on the outside, they’re each dealing with personal challenges. When Georgia’s fiancé goes missing shortly before their wedding, the 3 women are forced to confront their own secrets and relationship tensions.

I predicted some elements of the story but not all, which helped make this an entertaining read. I can’t say I liked any of the women much or agreed with them in many instances, but The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives was a quick soap opera of a story and I wanted to see how things played out — 3.5 stars

A guilty pleasure read with a gossipy feel, you shouldn't be concerned with the sensational details but you can't help but want to know - did she or didn't she?

The pacing was on point and the bombshells came out of nowhere causing my eyes to widen and a grin to light up my face. A quick, delicious escape from everyday life that leaves you thankful to be a boring and ordinary, upright and non-conniving spouse. 😄

Brooke Davies has something to prove to the polished, powerful prima donnas who run Presidio Terrace, an extra-exclusive community in the heart of sunny CA. Neighbor Erin is a powerful and beautiful news anchor with her hunky plastic surgeon hubby...and then there's blonde show-stopping stunner Georgia, dubbed the "Black Widow" after her last two husbands died due to mysterious accidents, leaving their requisite fortunes in the hands of suspected gold-digger Georgia...and Georgia has another one seemingly on the hook, about to be husband number three. As Brooke slowly gets to know these two women and becomes entrenched in their web, her own wealthy and successful husband fears that this is a dangerous alliance she should probably leave behind before it's too late. But Brooke is a mystery writer, and the drama playing out before her seems too delicious to ignore entirely...and when Robert turns up missing, it's the icing on this devilish cake. Should Brooke have heeded her husband's warning...or has Pandora's Box opened for good?

I went into this read expecting a bit of camp, a bit of sass, and a little bit of thriller---but was pleasantly surprised that this novel delivers...in a BIG way! Perhaps the best aspect of this book is that it never takes itself seriously...at all. The dialogue can be downright silly and snarky at times, and I snickered SO many times while reading certain passages. If you're looking for a serious, buttoned-down thriller this is NOT your book. But with so many of those other books readily available, I was here for the dish...and it was piping HOT! 🔥

I also loved that the narrative vacillated between Erin and Brooke, with Georgia quiet throughout. The sense of competition between these two for Georgia's attention and approval definitely gave me some Mean Girls vibes, but this absolutely worked here. Normally, I would have wanted to hear from Georgia but in this case? Nah! These two ladies kept me so riveted, I felt like I was sharing a cosmo (or rather, a mimosa from the mimosa bar at the country club, their preferred drink of choice) with them and self-consciously looking over my shoulder from paranoia. Miller's jibes about the 'rules' of the community also made me snicker, as it's clear many of these women have way too much time on their hands...and as much as the wealth would be welcome, honestly, I'm glad I'm not one of them!

The final twist was the perfect capper to this dishy drama, and truly made me laugh out loud....but in a GOOD way! I felt properly duped, despite the fact that this entire premise is about as theatrical and soapy as it gets. So strap in, pull on your designer shades, and get your popcorn ready---this is one murderous and soapy read you absolutely shouldn't miss!

4 scandalous ⭐!

3.75 beach read stars and now available!

This one would make the perfect one to read at the beach this summer, entertaining enough and lots of over-the-top characters!

Brooke and Jack are new to the exclusive Presidio Terrace development. They’ve joined other wealthy couples looking for security and status. Brooke is quickly befriended by Erin and Georgia and sucked into the drama of their lives. That’s perfect because Brooke is a writer, and this is providing great content for her books.

Erin is a TV anchor and frustrated with her life and job. She’s also the head of the homeowner’s association and loves to point out what others are doing wrong.

Georgia is called the Black Widow because two of her previous husbands have met an untimely death. Now she’s about to marry Robert, husband #3. Will he have better luck?

We are treated to alternating chapters from each of these women, so we get lots of insight into the lives they are living or pretending to live.

The husbands leave a lot to be desired!

Truly a fun romp and campy, this one was a good summer read for me. I was not a good detective on this one, so it was fun to be surprised by the ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the opportunity to read this one.

I was ecstatic to see the message “your wish has been granted” on NetGalley! I’ve “wished” for many books, but only been granted two. I have faith that more will come!

This is one of those wicked, soap-like guilty pleasures and I felt like I enjoyed it a little too much. The dark humor of these women was SO entertaining! I loved everything about this book, except the ending. The cover is gorgeous, and caught my eye the first time I saw it! The banter between the main characters is hilarious. They could be referred to as totally unlikable. But the more I read about them, the harder they were to hate! It was a 5-star read until the end. Don’t get me wrong, the ending isn’t bad, it’s just a little tidy for my taste. But...it’s worth the read!

“I’m not afraid to love a man . . .
I’m not afraid to kill one, either.”
—GRACE DENT, The Nightmare Next Door

“He landed on the bottom, arms and legs broken in awkward angles like a demented starfish.”

A demented starfish...OMG, this line made me laugh out loud! Kristen Miller’s writing is fabulous and original! And the unpredictable twists...WOW! I’ll be reading more of her work.

Georgia has two dead husbands and is about to marry a third. It’s hard to believe any man would marry this woman with all the rumors related to the deaths of her first two husbands! Although she was never charged, she’s earned the nickname “Black Widow”. And her dark humor surrounding the incidents helps feed these rumors! Did she or didn’t she? Georgia is such a well-developed character, with a unique sense of dark humor, she was bewitching! Definitely my favorite character.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kristin Miller and Ballantine Books, for this free digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

Talk about a guilty pleasure read! There's a bit of a Desperate Housewives vibe going on with the story. If you embrace the craziness it's a fun read. Don't spend too much time analyzing everything and just roll with it.

The story goes back and forth between three women living in the same wealthy neighborhood: Brooke, Erin, and Georgia. Brooke has just moved to the area with her tech billionaire husband. Erin is president of the HOA, a local news anchor, and is married to a plastic surgeon. Erin is good friends with Georgia who has been dubbed "Black Widow" by the community. You see, both of Georgia's husbands died under suspicious circumstances and guess who got all their dough when they died? Georgia is set to walk down the aisle for a third time in a few days. You'll be amazed at all the things that will happen in the week leading up to the wedding.

The author does a good job of keeping things off balance. You start to feel confident you know where things are headed but there's some surprises along the way. Nothing that will completely blow your mind but it's definitely not a dull conclusion. It fits the definition of vacation read for sure as it should hold your interest without taxing your brain.

I received an advance digital copy from the publisher and Netgalley. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Book is out today! Happy publication day!! 7-20-2021

So entertaining and unexpected! This one was a page-turner and I read it fast. I definitely didn’t see the end coming. Between the three main characters, Georgia, Erin, and Brooke there is a lot of drama! I enjoyed how the chapters went back and forth between the 3 women and you got their 3 different viewpoints throughout the book. Overall, a really good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thank you Net Galley and Random house- Ballantine for an advanced read copy in return for my honest review. This book will be published July 20, 2021.

I'm not a fan of "The Housewives of ..." so the title of this book didn't exactly call to me. I did, however, follow the advice of the publisher who thought I'd like it and accepted an advance copy of the book. The publisher was right; I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I liked the the suspense, the unreliable narrators and yes, even the catty interactions between the three main characters.

We follow Brooke, a young trophy wife who has just moved into the exclusive gated community; Erin, a news anchor fast approaching her sell-by date; and Georgia, known as the Black Widow for the untimely demise of her previous two husbands. Erin and Georgia quickly form a bond with Brooke and the three are caught up in their own webs of deceit. All have secrets and neither Brooke nor Erin actually have the perfect marriages that they outwardly portray. Georgia, whose pending marriage to her yacht obsessed fiance appears to have the best chance at happiness. Told from each of their POVs, the secrets and lies are slowly revealed in a fast-paced story that is both engrossing and a bit titillating.

Don't let the title fool you. This is a good suspense novel filled with twists. Its characters are well drawn and their backstories unfold at just the right pace to keep one surprised and engaged in the story. There is only one place in the plot where I found myself scratching my head and thinking that particular event was unlikely. Overall, it was a fun, fast read.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House - Ballantine Books for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The publication date is July 20, 2021,

What a fun, soapy read Kristin Miller's new mystery, The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives , was!!

When Brooke and her much-older, tech-magnate husband look at a mansion in a prestigious Bay Area neighborhood, they think they’ve found a home where Brooke can write her mystery novels and there won’t be a lot of interference from their neighbors. (Although the HOA rules are rather ridiculous.)

But what they didn’t realize is that one of their neighbors is Georgia, the so-called “Black Widow,” whose first two husbands died mysteriously. Many people think she’s behind their deaths even though the law has found otherwise. But now she claims to have found true love with another wealthy man, and everyone’s wondering whether she’ll strike again.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s best friend Erin, a news anchor and the HOA president, has her own issues. Jealous of Brooke’s youth and freshness, she walks off her newscaster job in a snit, hoping her husband will make her a trophy wife, too. But he’s less than enthused with her stunt, and she starts to wonder whether there’s something he’s hiding from her.

When an incident occurs after Georgia’s engagement party, Brooke starts to realize that her neighbors and friends might be the inspiration she needs to break out of her writing slump. But it’s not long before she finds herself drawn into their web, which gets crazier and crazier by the second.

No one is quite what they seem in this neighborhood…and not knowing whom to trust could be dangerous!

I had such a great time reading The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives . It reminded me of a great nighttime soap opera and I was hooked on the story, which was twisty enough to keep me guessing but not ridiculous. I love reading about the fabulously, dastardly rich. Heck, I’d even love a sequel!

The title of this one grabbed me - the lives of the wealthy are usually fascinating. Brooke, a mystery writer, moves into an exclusive neighborhood in San Francisco with her billionaire husband Jack. Brooke quickly befriends some of her new neighbors - Erin, a famous news anchor and chairman of the neighborhood board, and Georgia Georgia has been nicknamed "Black Widow" because it is rumored she murdered her first two husbands (in only 4 years) for their money and is now working on her third.

I didn't like any of these women and found them arrogant, vain, and selfish. The story's premise is over the top and is told in turn by each woman's point of view. There were a few surprises. This reads like a soap opera! I enjoyed the writing and it flowed well.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine through Netgalley for an advance copy.

From the outside, it looks like the wives of Presidio Terrace have it all but a closer look reveals the cracks in the facade:

Georgia St. Claire is able to laugh off her nickname “Black Widow”. Two husbands have met untimely and tragic ends and she’s cashed in both times. Her third wedding day is quickly approaching and she hopes the third time is the charm with Robert.

Erin King is a local news anchor and head of the homeowner’s association. She walks out on live TV when she finally snaps at her rude co-anchor and decides she’ll take a brief hiatus from the desk to be trophy wife to her plastic surgeon husband, Mason. Unfortunately Mason isn’t too thrilled about all of Erin’s new free time and it seems he could be hiding something—or someone—from her. It doesn’t take long for Erin to realize the network isn’t exactly begging her to return.

Mystery writer Brooke Davies is still in the extended honeymoon phase with her tech millionaire husband Jack when they purchase a home in the neighborhood… or it seems that way for appearances sake. They sleep in separate bedrooms and Brooke is struggling to find the right characters for her next novel.

Brooke is welcomed into the fold by Georgia and Erin and things quickly unravel when Georgia’s fiancee goes missing aboard his yacht on the night of their pre-wedding party. Alternating POVs reveal some surprising secrets as the three women scramble to find out what’s happened to Robert.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives isn’t anything groundbreaking but it is wicked, juicy, and entertaining with plenty of drama and twists that would translate well to the screen! I recommend this to readers who enjoy contemporary thrillers/suspense heavy on the soap operatic drama.

Thanks to Ballantine Books and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is scheduled for release on July 20, 2021.

4 stars Thank you to NetGalley for the download and to Random House for the chance to read and review this ARC. Publishes July 20 2021.

Really enjoyable beach read. Quick and easy - well developed characters and a plot that moves right along - with the just the right amount of twists and turns. Short book that is well worth the read. Unconventional, action packed, tangled web, but light, airy and highly entertaining.

Brooke, Erin and Georgia, three wealthy women who dabble in murder. Each plays their own part and each has secrets from the others. Combine their forces and the wealthy neighborhood of Presidio Terrace doesn't know what hit it.

When I think of a trophy wife, I think of women who don’t have paid work. Two of the three women in this novel have jobs—one is a novelist and one is a TV reporter. The third woman is about to marry her third husband. People call her the Black Widow because her first two husbands died under mysterious circumstances.

This novel had some fun mystery to it. It’s definitely a fast read, but there was something about the way the truth was unraveled that just didn’t quite deliver for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book, which RELEASES JULY 20, 2021.

Oh my, ladies you are something else! Presidio Terrace has such very interesting residents indeed! As Brooke Davis moves with her husband, Jack, a billionaire into the new neighborhood, she meets up with her new neighbors. It is a tony neighborhood with mansions, money, partying, money, fancy cars, money, and did I mention money? All of the neighbors are beautiful women. There's Brooke of course, the newest resident , a successful mystery writer who soon teams up with Erin King, a news anchor, married to a renowned plastic surgeon, (lucky her!), and then there's Georgia St. Claire, aka The Black Widow.

Of course, Georgia, is one who elicits lots of speculation, (gossip) as her two previous ultra-wealthy husbands have met their demise under some "slightly" suspicious ends. However, Georgia has found her true love in Robert, another ultra-rich man and is due to marry him shortly. Problem is as the nuptials approach; Robert goes missing and the conjecture is that Georgia has once again proved her mettle in slaying soon to be husband number three.

Brooke and Erin lend their support to poor Georgia, who oddly decides to hold the pseudo wedding while the groom is missing. Robert does eventually turn up, but not in the manner in which Georgia had hoped.

As the ladies' cry, complain, and enjoy each other before and after the missing Robert, we learn of their life style, the sometimes aimless and sometimes dangerous way they lead their lives. But, what about the husbands? Are they the perfect mixture of wealth, handsome and rolling in charm and grace? Or is there something behind their actions when the door to their mansion is closed that bind the ladies together?

This was a fun charged thriller that initially seemed like Desperate Housewives From Wherever, but it indeed had some twists that while it didn't knock my boots off, certainly made it a
fine romp into the world of fame, fortune, deviousness, and of course murder.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book due out July 20, 2021.
Jan and I had some rollicking goo times with the wives. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed the "fun."
