In this collection of original poems, the dreams, desires, and experiences of a young traveller are explored through the lens of a young woman seeking to know herself, the world around her, and the people in it. Using a lyrical free-verse style, these "letters to travellers" acknowledge the fear and trepidation of setting out on your own to find adventure, meet up with kindred spirits, find love, be homesick, discover where home really is, and everything in between. Travellers and adventurists of all ages will discover something of themselves in these pages, including small reminders that they're accomplishing great things even when it doesn't feel like it. They'll also come to understand that as messy as life can be, there is still love and hope for the inhabitants of our little blue planet.
"I want to spark people's curiosity, broaden their perspectives, open their minds, and open their eyes to this small world full of too many things for one lifetime." -Brandi Sawatsky...
Got this book as soon as it came out and I could not put it down! The author really draws you into the book and her stories. All her words are so relatable! Have already reread this and will again and again!
I am so happy this book came into my life. Brandi Marie is able to transport you with her poems and they hit the heart HARD. She is fearless and adventurous and her passions pour of the page and drive you to go explore just as she has.
If you are looking for motivation to get out in the world look no further than this book and this author.
From the back of the book: "In this collection of original poems, the dreams, desires, and experiences of a young traveller are explored through the lens of a young women seeking to know herself, the world around her, and the people in it."
These poems are perfect for anyone who loves adventure and/or traveling. The author is able to capture a lot of the feeling and thoughts that go through someone's minds. I myself have traveled through foreign countries and now live in Canada as a foreigner (I was born and raised in Europe). And it's amazing how much I see myself in those poems. On a rough day I take a moment and grab the book, read a few page and it brings back all the memories of traveling or exploring the outdoors. It gives me hope and excitement for my future adventures.
This would also make a great gift. I will buy a couple of more copies for that reason.
A wonderful book about the dangers and joys of adventuring. A must read for those with wild hearts and poetic souls.
As a debut poetry collection, Brandi Marie captures her readers with her personal voice and easy to follow narration. The poems vary in style and length to form a dynamic journey, which as any adventurer will tell you, is exactly how it should be. The mix of contemplations and personal story also work to endear the audience to this wonderful poet.
I look forward to finishing her second collection that seeks to explore further the nature of an Adventurous Heart.
Brandi Marie is another author I’ve discovered through FriesenPress. Her book was published a few months before mine. I first came to know about her book through a book unboxing video she posted on Twitter. Brandi has a spark of adventure in her eyes which is evident in the video. She also has tremendous courage and determination to travel to new, exotic and faraway places. Her book is divided into four sections; You, I, Them, and We, from which she explores the world along with its challenges, risks, opportunities, pitfalls and joys through different perspectives. Brandi promotes her book and posts poetry on occasion on Instagram (@brandi_was_here); some of it from her book as a preview. She also paints her poems on rocks on occasion and leaves them for hikers on mountain trails. I loved her book and would recommend it to anyone - especially people like me who are afraid to get outside of their comfort zone and travel the world.
