Stuck With Me is a stand alone novel set in Kristen Proby’s With Me in Seattle Universe.
Dev Modi is the most irritating man Lyra Castillo has ever known. He’s overly flirty, makes inappropriate jokes and knows exactly how to push her buttons to keep her in a perpetual state of annoyance. If only he didn’t look like he belonged on the cover of a magazine. And if only his confidence didn’t match his unbelievably good looks.
Lyra is sexy as hell, but that doesn’t mean Dev is wasting another minute trying to pursue her, or even get in her good graces. No, that ship has sailed. Instead, the one he has dubbed “The Mistress of Evil” is now someone he has to tolerate for his best friend’s sake, but that doesn’t mean he’ll ever stop messing with her. That’s just way too much fun.
Dev and Lyra both agree to go on a ski trip to ring in the new year with their best friends. But, when a snow storm keeps their friends from reaching the resort, Dev and Lyra have to figure out a way to get through four days together in isolation without killing each other…or falling in love.
I have always been fascinated with books----ever since I was a little girl sitting in front of my record player, following along with my huge 12x12 storybooks.
I'm a pop culture maniac, Potterhead and Disney fanatic. I write new adult romance, contemporary romance and romantic suspense.
Stuck With Me is one angsty love story. Melissa Brown gives her all with this enemies to lovers romance and it is all kinds of wonderful. We met Dev and Lyra in Melt With Me and these two were definite standouts in Maren and Peter's love affair. The vibes they give off when the other is near is anything but cordial but you could certainly sense a bit more going on than either would admit.
With Dev as the flirty pain in Lyra's a$$, he was taken with Maren's bestie right from the start. He is a romantic at heart but his own love life has been a rollercoaster of sorts with a long-time girlfriend doing a number on him not once but twice. He clearly has his work cut out for him if he is to even have a chance at getting on Lyra's good side and let's just say it's one crazy adventure.
Brown uses an opportunity during a snowstorm to allow Lyra and Dev's guards to fall and they happily find a short period where they see the other as more than they initially thought. I loved when these two traded affectionate barbs and realized just how much they actually had in common. And although their respite from feeling a bit of hatred for the other is short-lived, I was more than thrilled when they did finally let their hearts beat for the other because then I knew they were truly going to make it.
With help from the rest of this wonderful crew, Dev and Lyra don't make it easy for anyone on their sides, both having stubborn streaks a mile long. But their love is real and despite all the sharp twists and turns these two manage to find their true soulmates in each other.
As an aside, I can't tell you how happy I am that Melissa Brown is back and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Sweet, endearing and funny! Melissa Brown has created a enemy to lovers story that will make you smile, give you goosebumps and give you an opportunity to immerse yourself in Dev and Lyra’s topsy turvy relationship.
At first, you wonder how these to don’t kill each other. Then you watch as they start to break down their walls and learn how well they can communicate and understand each’s dreams and needs. You will experience a gambit of emotions while making comparisons with your own life.
Ms. Brown’s writing style allows you to see into each of her characters and find pieces of people you know and love. References to beloved characters, classic books and music gives us a touching sense of nostalgia.
Do yourself a favor and pick up Stuck with Me, grab your favorite reading spot and settle in for a few days of living in Dev and Lyra’s world. I promise you’ll want to stay.
Dev and Lyra, the classic enemies to lovers story. I think their connection was so intense they didn’t know what to do with the energy they’d push each other’s buttons. If you read Melt with Me, Maren and Peter’s story, you’ve met Dev and Lyra. The story is sweet, feisty and electric. Brown creates characters that become our friends and family. I received an early copy from the author and wrote my review voluntarily.
This is my first book by Melissa and I have to say that it won't be my last. Enemies to lovers you say? You know I'm in. Dev and Lyra are sworn enemies. After he hit on her when they first met and she wasn't having any of that, he put her in a box labeled "Do Not Touch". When they're the only two able to get to the ski resort for the friends vacation planned and then get snowed in.. sparks fly. I wasn't sure how I would feel here because Dev starts the book off with someone else. It is clear that their relationship is holding on by a thread, but it still felt a little odd to me. Little by little Dev and Lyra start to open up to one another, letting their guards down, and that is when you see what has been clearly there the whole time. I loved that this book didn't take place all at one time, snowed in at a resort, but it was over the course of months. We got to see them in their element, and while that brought all sorts of new problems, it is reality. We all have pasts and it is silly to think they won't come rearing their ugly heads at some point. I could appreciate the struggles Lyra felt each time she was faced with another blow to her confidence. I enjoyed seeing Dev grow as a character and learn what true love actually felt like. I also loved being able to experience different cultures in this book. Mostly I loved all the talk about different foods, I always have food on the brain. Jane Austen and her books were also front and center here and you cannot go wrong that.
Dev and Lyra consider themselves mortal enemies. They’ve been basically thrust together because their best friends (Maren and Peter) are in love so, for them, they have to make nice. Their abilities to push each other’s buttons makes that harder than easier. There’s also the fact that they each are a little attracted to the other. When plans for the group of friends to spend New Year’s Eve together at a resort are altered because of a snowstorm leaving Dev and Lyra alone with each other the two are forced to come to terms with the fact that enemies might not be the best way to describe them.
This enemies to lovers’ story was sweet. I initially was not all that keen on the characters, but they grew on me. We all know how much I love banter and this book didn’t disappoint There we quite a few laugh out loud moments and I was happy to find out that the entire story didn’t take place at the resort. I don’t know how to explain it but something about the telling of this story was so real. Most times when we read these storylines, we fall in love with the fantasy of the whole coming together of the characters, but with these two, it was very realistic for me. Dev and Lyra could be people I actually know. Not necessarily as a couple but I can look at my circle of friends and pick out whose personality is Dev and whose is Lyra. I think the thing I enjoyed most about these two or the way their story was told was the cultural aspect. In many stories the characters’ ethnicity is identified and primarily to give a physical description, but with Dev and Lyra who they were as people was directly related to them culturally. Their culture played a very large part in who they were and how they approached things. I think that might be why they seemed so realistic to me, because they weren’t just characters written in a story, they were actual people.
Dev and Lyra’s story definitely has me interested in reading Maren and Peter’s story, so I’ll be off to find that book and see what started the Dev and Lyra relationship.
If you are a fan of Kristen Proby’s “With Me in Seattle” Series, you’ll recognize a character in this book as well as the mention of another. I always enjoy those little nuggets in the semi-crossover storylines.
I wasn’t a fan of these two main characters for several parts during this book. There were lots of moments I liked but several moments that I just thought they would be better off apart.
I enjoyed this enemies to lovers story, with lots of fun, food and angst. You kind of new how it would end but the bar scene (no spoilers) was really a suprise!
