Perfect Boys #1

Pretty Boy

Rate this book
Once upon a time, in a little Texas town in the middle of nowhere, there lived a boy who everyone called ugly…

When half your face is covered in a big, blotchy birthmark, you get used to the staring and the whispers. You get used to feeling unwanted.

Until he walks into my bar…

Tall, gorgeous, and all kinds of out of place. And the way he looks at me ain’t like no way I ever seen before.

Does he mean it when he says he wants to take me away from here? Nobody’s ever wanted me around for long. Can I believe Barrett when he says that’s what he wants?

Something about the word Daddy on my lips makes it all seem possible. Even if I don’t really believe anyone would want to keep an ugly boy like me forever…

*** Pretty Boy is a low-ish angst, steamy, sweet Daddy story with NO age play.

My thoughts:

- Cinderella premise with a rich, handsome Daddy claiming his impoverished, bullied boy.

- Love at first sight (Sterling leaves his life behind after knowing Barrett for a few days; granted, the town people treated him like shit, but still.)

- Sterling has a port-wine birthmark, and everyone acts like it's the devil's mark or something. Is that for real? Are people that pathetically ignorant and cruel? I have a colleague with a large facial birthmark, and it's never been a thing, like seriously no one cares.

- BDSM lite (spanking, Dominant Daddy/boy, cock cage); very tame.

- Too much time spent in cock cage, not enough sex.

- A little too sweet, no tension.

- Dual POV, which I liked, except Barrett remained a shallow character. He's just all good, kind, and giving, seemingly with no character flaws, and thus kind of boring.

- HEA, but I didn't love the epilogue. There was not enough information about Sterling's relationship with his mother for me to care.

- This is an easy read, but I noticed a few typos and awkward sentence construction; still enjoyable but not a standout.

Pathetic, cliche, and just.... NO.

You know when you read a books and it's so bad you find you funny? That lasted for a while before I wanted to bleach my eyes from reading this.

Like for fucks sake, I read the Falloucast series and THIS is where I draw the line??????

Too bad, I really do like the Daddy Kink trope.

I was so looking forward to this, but unfortunately it didn't deliver.

There were several thing that bothered me about this story.

- It was a bit too sugary sweet for me. I like a sweet book, but this was just too much for me.
- Sterling’s low self-esteem got on my nerves. At first I was all on board because it made for some lovely hurt/comfort. But eventually I thought Sterling needed more than just a loving daddy, he needed a good therapist.
- I’ve read several books where someone wears a cock cage, but not as extensively as in this. Barrett puts a cock cage on Sterling and then doesn’t touch him for two weeks. And he kept telling Sterling they should take it slow. Now that’s just not my kink. Cock cage fine, but take it off occasionally and have sex to keep things interesting.
- I was hoping the story would be just as intriguing as the blurb, but I was pretty bored for most of this book. Neither Sterling nor Barrett could hold my interest.

K.M. Neuhold is pretty hit or miss for me, and I’m disappointed that this was a miss. :(

The other characters were not that interesting to make me look forward to more books in this series. I liked Emerson, but I think he will be paired up with Kieran and I didn’t like him at all.

This was cute but...really boring. It’s an ugly duckling rescued by a Daddy tale. Everybody was always mean to Sterling, making fun of him for being dumb (learning disability maybe?) and having a facial birthmark. And then a billionaire Daddy walks in, sweeps him off his feet and asks him to move in with him far away from home. And the ugly duckling turns out to be beautiful, just unique.

It was sweet, but instalove and Prince Charming aren’t really my thing. And nothing much happens after that. Even the sex wasn’t kinky enough to make up for the sugary coma.

An ok read of 3,5 stars for this story. 🙈❤
I haven't read about Daddy kink for a while so I grabbed this one trusting K.M. Neuhold to take care of me, but it didn't quite work...

It was well written, well developed and the characters were cute, it's just that there wasn't anything exciting about the story, it was plain and boring sometimes. The kink was so light that I got frustrated and bored, AGAIN, I understand that there are various ways to work out the Daddy magic but in here, only for the name calling, the throwing of money to solve issues and a toy used ALL THE TIME, there wasn't much else to it. See? Plain and boring.

It was cute and fluffy I guess so I'm sure people will like it, but I needed more depth, more feelings and the sex could have been way hotter to be honest, didn't seem a K.M. book in that area. *sighs*. I hope people enjoy it better than me.

Chao chao. ❤💜

‘The tears can be a baptism that will wash away all of the ugly thoughts that were put into his head by ugly people.’

This was so cute and sugary sweet I loved it so much. Barrett and Sterling were perfect for each other. I loved the caretaking and seeing sterling thrive under the right guidance. I swooned so much. I love me a daddy/boy dynamic and throw in some kink, hurt/comfort and I’m sold! My ONLY gripe was the withholding sex till sterling can say something positive about himself felt like manipulation to me but I still really enjoyed this book alot. I’m excited to continue this series!

I liked the beginning of the story. The writing flowed smoothly. However, this is a trope I don't usually enjoy and this was no exception.

„I will bring him the moon if it will make him this happy. He’s my boy; his happiness is my job.“

Guys this book was amazing. This book wasn’t just hot, it had so much depth and emotion. It’s not a light read at all. It really showed how much Sterling has suffered because of his birthmark, the way people have treated him, and how deeply it’s affected his confidence and self-worth. My heart broke for him, but Barrett? Barrett gave and did everything, to show him how much he is loved and what a beautiful boy he is.

Sterling is used to hiding in the background, convinced no one could ever truly want him. But then Barrett walks into his bar—charming, gorgeous, and completely unbothered by Sterling’s insecurities. Their connection builds slowly, and Barrett’s love and care give Sterling the confidence to finally see himself as desirable and worthy. Their relationship was just beautiful.

„I’m going to read, and you’re going to stay nice and still with my cock in your mouth like the good boy you are.“

And let’s talk about the kink, so good!!!
Daddy kink (without age play), cock cage, cock warming, control, and what made it even better? Barrett might be the dominant Daddy, but he also bottoms, which just made their connection even more intimate and hot as hell.

This book hit me in all the right ways—emotional, steamy, and deeply satisfying. If you’re looking for a Daddy/boy romance that’s not just kinky but also full of healing and love, this is the one.

It was a cute story and super sweet. However, being from Texas, I cringed every time Sterling spoke. Ugh. It sure didn’t ring true to me. I think I just don’t like when any author tries to write a character with a very strong accent. And when the accent they’re trying to portray is something I know very well I’m probably going to be very judgmental.

DNF @ 73%. Possible TW:

This book is a nice, short, low-angst book. Though it did start off on a good trajectory (despite the Daddy kink, which is not my thing), it didn't last for long.

First off, for Barrett's insistence on taking things slow, he certainly didn't in 48 hours, he was whisking Sterling away and had him not just staying in his house, but in his bed. And sure they didn't fuck right away, but he did put him in a cock cage really fast. I also just found that for the fact that Sterling was a virgin, but more so that he has the self esteem of a slug, he was pretty uninhibited right from the get-go. I would have liked to see maybe a little more fumbling and shyness... since he is supposed to be shy. He also went from virgin to pretty much a full time Daddy/boy relationship from zero to sixty. He even thinks of Barrett as Daddy (at least half of the time, that is... which was annoying in and of itself).

Secondly, Barrett's friends and sister were super judgmental douchbags. and while his dickhole friends apologized to Barrett, absolutely no one apologized to Sterling at their do-over.

Third, if you were stupid rich, had dark hair and shaved your back, why wouldn't you just shell out the negligible amount of money it would take to laser it off if you don't like it? But also, how did Sterling not notice he shaves his back? He had enough hair that Sterling could leave a little 'S' shaped hair patch, so did Sterling just never notice his back stubble?

And this one kind of really rubbed me the wrong way and is something I wouldn't doubt would be triggering for some people... So, excuse my french, but fuck that shit, I'm out. No way you pitch it will I think that's romantic... it's manipulative bullshit is what it is.

Loved this book!!!

Oh this book just worked for me! First, let's get the obvious out of the way...
Was it well written? Yes, KM Neuhold writes great books!
Was it steamy and sexy? Yes, she writes that so well too!
Was it Kinky? Yep, its a daddy/boy dynamic with some kinky play time that was done so well and was super steamy!
But putting all of those great things aside, this book was about so much more for me.  This book was about overcoming incredible insecurities,  not feeling like you will ever be good enough, learning to believe you deserve to be loved. It just spoke to me. I've struggled in my life with never feeling attractive enough, thin enough, stylish enough. I really felt a connection with Sterling. My heart broke for him everytime he hid his face or felt all eyes staring at him. It was so hard for him to truly believe someone could see past his birthmark to the kind, caring, sweet man he was inside.

Enter Barrett...Sterling caught his eye from the start...he was captivated by his passion, fire, grit and determination. What follows, was such a wonderful story of love, acceptance, compassion, patience, understanding, and feeling a sense of belonging.  I just adored Barrett and how he slowly, without ever pushing too hard, just helped Sterling see past all the physical and all the hate he grew up with to see the man he really was inside-one that had so much love to give and deserved to be loved in return.

I very rarely cry while reading a book, but there was a scene here that caused big crocodile tears to fall from my eyes as I empathized a great deal with what Sterling was feeling. This book just really moved me, it made me feel, and I loved it!

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

He’s going to have to learn that being with me means letting me treat him like the treasure he is.

I finally got around to restarting and finishing this book and I’m so glad I did. There’s little I enjoy more than a sad and hurting boy being taken care of and comforted by a sweet daddy character, and that’s this book to a T. It made me tear up a lot because I just hurt so much for Sterling.

It’s not a very complicated story, but it fit my mood really well when I read it.

“You’re strong and feisty and independent. I don’t want to take care of you because you can’t do it yourself. I want to take care of you because you deserve it.”

OK...this was cute, but that is about it honestly. I didn't love it. I felt like it was a bit boring too many times. An "ugly" guy falls for a hot older rich guy. I really do think this story had a lot of protentional. I'm not very comfortable with all the moles I have so I was really excited for a story about someone who had a mark on their face that they didn't like. I just felt like it was overplayed too much with Sterling feeling like he was worthless. Being uncomfortable and feeling ugly yes, but not worthless. I do get the point behind the story and it was beautiful but unfortunately it rubbed me wrong. That could also be my insecurities talking. I did however love Barrett he really did take care of Sterling very well through all his troubles. Crap, I really don't know. I feel like I am all over the place, I am just going to wrap this up and say it was cute, three solid stars.

This Cinderella story was just alright. I didn’t mind listening to the narration but there wasn’t anything particularly great about it. The whole thing felt more like a story about a man learning to accept himself (with the help of his Daddy, of course) than a romance.

Barrett is a sweet and loving character, but because he doesn’t have any flaws and is too perfect, he comes across as unrealistic and boring. Sterling is a little more believable but even his character felt shallow. Even though by the end of the story he grew more confident in himself I’m not sure that he was any closer to feeling worthy of being with Barrett. He did allow himself to believe that Barrett loved him so at least there was that. As in everything else about this story their relationship felt shallow and the epilogue did nothing to make it better.

Based on the synopsis I thought this would be a lot kinkier than it was. Sterling wears a cock cage for the majority of the story and the few scenes we are given were just okay. 2.5 stars

Sterling has let his birthmark dictate his life. Always on guard, accepting being ugly and unloved. Then Barrett walks into his life, giving his “Pretty Boy” exactly what he needs. Uncomplicated story about a man who has everything and one who has nothing and what they give to each other.

This book was sweetly kinky and at times very sensual. The author created two characters who were so right together. Of course every book she writes I have new favorite characters. The book was well written and a pleasure to read.

I received an arc of this book.

Let's take a second to talk about my favorite type of Daddy. He's firmly on the "praise" side of the Punishment/Praise Spectrum. He has a soft spot for broken boys, but he doesn't try to fix them - he teaches them that they are perfect the way they are. He's fully aware that his boy doesn't need him, but chooses him anyway. He's not afraid to admit when he's wrong. And he puts his boy above anyone and everything else.

Barrett is all of these things. He's soft and he's sweet, but he's firm when he needs to be. And Sterling, my god what a beautifully shattered boy. Watching him come alive with Barrett's help was exquisite to experience. KM Neuhold's first foray into Daddy kink absolutely hit the nail on the head. Just my brand of Daddy kink matched with the sweetest boy is a perfect combination that I couldn't get enough of.

I am impatiently waiting for Kieran and Alden's stories now too. And I will riot if Em doesn't find his man. I can't wait for more in this world!

4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Alcoholism, low self-esteem, bullying

Kink: Spanking, daddy kink, praise kink, orgasm control

Pretty Boy is a sweet rich/poor age-gap daddy kink romance, with a whirlwind romance, sugar sweet to its core.

Sterling and Barrett were great together. I loved the praise, the cuddling, the protectiveness Barrett had for Sterling. I loved the way Sterling's southern dialect and accent came into play because -- well, it felt real, that is how me and my family speak (though we're from Alabama, so ymmv if it's truly Texan). These two were just so great together, there are so many swoony quotes, and I felt a lot for Sterling and his bad experiences at home.

The friendship between Sterling and his boss (Emery? I am bad with names) was sweet too. I'm glad he got a job he felt good about and how he was engaging with his own independence that way. The kink in this was great as well, the daddying so caretaking and the diamond cock cage? Wow. The epilogue with him reconnecting with his mother was also nice to see.

Now, I do have a criticism that did knock a star for me. There is a point where Barrett withholds sex until Sterling can say something nice about himself. While this is framed as the push Sterling needs to work through some issues and lasts say, maybe an hour, it definitely isn't the best thing to do. It can be a form of manipulation that isn't healthy, but neither is running away with a man you've known for a couple of days to live with him, so. I think Neuhold wanted to show a sugary sweet version of life (romancelandia, if you will) that Sterling's issues with self-esteem could be loved through. Reality of course, he should seek ways to build himself up and maybe pursue therapy or something of that nature.

Other than that, I really loved this emotional sweet book.

PRETTY BOY was such an emotional and beautiful romance and I adored Sterling and Barrett together. They have such a soft and sweet relationship and I loved how Barrett took care of Sterling. He's protective, kind, and I especially liked that Barrett is a philanthropic millionaire. Barrett hasn't had the best luck with romance but he longs for a Daddy/boy relationship and when he meets Sterling tending bar in a small Texas town he's immediately attracted. I really appreciated how Neuhold handled the power imbalance between these two, especially considering Sterling's lack of confidence and younger age. Barrett is up front about what he wants in a relationship, he gives Sterling a few days to think about his choice, and he makes sure Sterling has an out if the relationship doesn't work out.

These two were sweet but also sexy and I loved how caring their relationship is. I'm a sucker for gentle heroes with big hearts so this hit all the boxes for me. It was also great to see Sterling gain confidence in his self-worth and to still maintain his independence even when Barrett was taking care of him. I'm looking forward to more books in this series because Neuhold definitely dropped some hints about some future pairings and I'm very excited.

This is a lovely tale of a sweet man who has obstacles in his life, and when an opportunity is offered, he takes it.
Bartender, Sterling, 25, is lithe and has blue eyes,

plus a large "port wine" birthmark on his delicate face, which has made him a target in the small Texas town. He survives, doing his best for himself and his troubled Mom.
Bearded, muscled, Barrett, 36,

is a businessman/philanthropist, is on his way to a meeting in Dallas. While stopping for a break from his long drive, he meets Sterling, and is captivated, and then saves him from a brutal beating.

He checks in on Sterling again and again, having many talks, taking his time to learn about themselves. They go slow, mainly because Sterling is skeptical of the attention, and because Barrett doesn't want to screw up a chance with the wonderful boy. His "boy" is a virgin, and new to even being touched, so he is careful in proceeding.

When Sterling's Mom suddenly leaves Sterling, he accepts Barrett's offer. "Daddy" Barrett is over the moon. He knows they are meant to be.
Sterling is a sweet boy in need of TLC and a gentle touch. Barrett is a terrific Daddy to Sterling, and takes good care of him, giving him just what he needs and more, with hot sexiness and a support system.

Sterling gets a job at a small bookstore, and then, slowly, we see Sterling thrive, plus he pitches a plan to Barrett's company.

Simply a fantastic tale of a big-hearted man giving a sweet boy a chance at a good life.
Another well written K.M. Neuhold book.
ENJOY !

Such a super sweet, low-angst(ish) story you can expect when you pick up a book from K.M. Neuhold. Sterling is just so sweet, this poor boy captured my heart from the beginning. His story broke my heart and I absolutely loved seeing him get swept up by Barrett. If anyone deserves a daddy to love him and spoil him and take care of him, it’s Sterling. This story may have been insta-love/lust, but the story lies in the journey Sterling takes to finding his own self worth, and learns to love himself.

I liked the beginning of the book but sometime in the middle it became unexpectedly boring. There was nothing to drive the plot besides Barrett constantly repeating how perfect his boy was and Sterling struggling with low self esteem. What was endearing in the beginning became slightly annoying.
It was ok read overall - sweet and steamy with likable characters. But substance and depth were lacking.

So delightful and sweet and spicy

Daddy and little rabbit. God was it cute. I loved them together, but I got irritated sometimes because Sterling’s insecurities took a long time to heal or come to terms with, but that was the point right? To make peace with the way you are. The deformity or the coloration are nothing compared to who you truly are or what a wonderful and string man you have become.

4,5 stars, rounded up!

This was absolutely beautiful. I'm not even sure I have enough words in me to write a proper review, but I'll give it a try.

First of all, this is very different from the other books I've read so far from this author. I'm used to their romcoms, and while I enjoy those, this one is definitely something special. It's a beautiful story with characters I fell in love with instantly and it made my heart so very happy.

Sterling is the kind of character that makes me absolutely feral, to be honest. He carries around so much hurt and the way he sees himself at the start of the book just broke my heart. He's hurt, a little jaded, but also so kind-hearted and soft. He's so starved for attention and touch it made me ache. I wanted to wrap him up in a blanket and cuddle him forever. Thankfully, Barrett is the most wonderful, caring Daddy and exactly what Sterling needs and deserves.

Seeing their connection deepen, seeing them fall for each other, was nothing short of beautiful. The spice is hot, but also sweet and intensely romantic at the same time. There's so much care and love in them that it brought tears to my eyes at times.

If you haven't checked this one out yet, you definitely should. Pretty Boy is a soft, beautiful story that will no doubt stay with me for a long time.
