It’s the most wonderful time for the fear.

Pour yourself a glass of eggnog. Deck the halls with bloody holly.

Horror writers, Lee Richmond and Mark M J Green (Medley of the Macabre) bring you two tales of festive frights.

Driving Home for Christmas – Lee Richmond.

Gary Holbrook is driving home to his family on Christmas Eve when he witnesses something crash into the woods.
Gary, channelling the bravado of his hero, David Hasselhoff, decides to investigate.
What Gary discovers is a scene straight out of a Christmas card from Hell.
Will Gary survive the night, or will this (as George Michael once sang) be his last Christmas?

Driving Home for Christmas is a comedy/horror story in the vein of Evil Dead, but with a seasonal twist.

Do You Hear What I Hear – Mark M J Green.

Albert was looking forward to a few pre-Christmas drinks in his local pub with his best friend Mick.
But a grisly discovery in the snow leads to a fight for survival as the pub comes under siege from nightmarish beasts.
Trapped, cut off from the outside world and with a storm raging, can they survive the night?

Imagine Shaun of the Dead, The Thing and The Mist thrown into a blender and you're halfway there.

Lee Richmond was born in the swampy marshlands of East Anglia. Fed on a steady diet of fast, snotty punk rock and 80s slasher movies, it was only a matter of time before the sick, twisted imagery that festered in his head eventually found its way to the page.
Lee was influenced from a very early age by the films of John Carpenter, Dario Argento, Wes Craven, Sam Raimi, Stanley Kubrick, and Tobe Hooper and the books of Clive Barker, Stephen King and James Herbert.
Music also plays its part in influencing Lee’s writing. He loves bands like The Misfits, Ramones, Fugazi, Operation Ivy, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Sisters of Mercy, Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden and the works of such movie composers as Hans Zimmer and Christopher Young.
When Lee isn't writing, he loves playing his bass guitar, spending time with his wife, and cheering on his favourite Ice Hockey team, The New York Rangers.
Lee is a freelance proofreader and editor for hire.
Lee is the author of such titles as, 232 Jericho Avenue, PolterGary, Tits and Teeth, Beneath, A Meal for the Maggots and many more. You can contact him on Facebook, Instagram, or Goodreads.

OK, straight off the bat. This is a Fantastic Book. Comprising of 2 stories, each very different but equally entertaining. Please see below for my personal view of the book, NO SPOILERS.

From a personal perspective, my favourite literary genre is Horror Fiction. I also prefer short story collections, if written well these can be very rewarding to the reader, although this book is not an anthology of stories being just 2 but wow, these 2 really hit my sweet spot. I bought this book 2 or 3 weeks ago, due to it having a seasonal theme, so waited until December to start reading. my only regret is, that I wish I had started reading the day it arrived as in hindsight, I was missing out on a real treat!

As mention, I don't want to give anything away so I will keep this short and to the point.

So, on to the first story "Driving Home for Christmas", by Lee Richmond. The synopsis states it is written in the comedy / horror style, so I am not giving anything away here, however, I can confirm it has both of these in abundance.

I felt myself laughing on almost all of the pages in this story, not just at the character names but the whole concept of the plot. Thoroughly entertaining. The joys of short stories, where you don't have to wait 500 pages for the action (or humour) to begin.

If this is your kind of thing, then you are going to really enjoy this story. Highly recommended from me.

Right, on to the story by Mark M J Green entitled "Do you Hear What I Hear" this story was amazing, gripping stuff!

If you have read my comments above, you will know that I am a Horror Fiction fan and lover of anthologies and I have therefore read many short stories from the likes of Stephen King and Dean Koontz and I would honestly say that this story was up there as one of my all time favourites.

In a book review you often hear critics refer to a novel being a "page-turner" and this truly was! I felt myself being really pulled into the story, page after page I wanted know what happens next. The story was extremely well written. Although, I did chuckle a few times during this story, this is a pure horror story at the heart.

I love when a story makes you visualise the characters and picture the scenes that is being presented to you, this certainly did that for me, truly gripping stuff.

I am going to reiterate about not putting any spoilers here, so I am not, but all I want to say is that there is a certain point in this book where the perspective changes, this clever and pivotal point of the story really made this for me. I thought this book was great before this point but this was the icing on the cake as it just gave the reader the story from another angle.

A piece of parental advice here, certainly not one to read your kids before bedtime unless you can afford a good child therapist that is.

To wrap this review up, I am sure after reading my review, it is no surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed both stories in this book. If you are looking for a book of this nature to gift someone at Christmas then this is highly recommended from me. Looking forward to reading other works by these authors.

Driving home for Christmas by Lee Richmond: Gary is in for an intense but also kind of hilarious fight for his life. I loved the ending when he becomes The Hoff.

Do You Hear What I Hear by Mark Green: a dark and twisted folklore story. Ugh I was hoping there’d be a happy ending 😭 at least William got a present!! So disturbing.

Add this one to your holiday horror reading list, it definitely won’t disappoint!!

This book contains two outstandingly fun and gory Christmas themed short stories.

One story is about having a run in with some disgruntled elf's while the other is a twist on a traditional Christmas story, both equally outstanding, and unpredictable.

Driving Home for Christmas – Lee Richmond
I have read a few books by Lee Richmond now, and I have loved them all, his combination of horror, comedy and gore, is second to none, and if you have enjoyed any of his other books then you will love this one too.

Do You Hear What I Hear – Mark M J Green.
this is the first I've read by this author, but it will not be my last, this story has a darker feel than the other leaving you with a punch in the gut feeling at times, but it still manages to have some fun.

If you are looking for something new to read this Christmas season, than look no further.

1. Driving along a quiet dark road for Xmas to get home, a man just found out his wife had been having an affair with his best mate, an object spirals out of the sky down to Earth. Holy fucking Xmas, a sleigh and eight dead reindeer splattering blood into the pure white untouched snow. Santa's insides hanging out, blood stuck and crusted to his white shaggy beard, a little creature devouring his innards, greedily slurping and sucking up the filthy waste, it's pointy green hat and bell dangling in the night air. Santa the sick perverted fuck enslaved elves to do his dirty work and abused the women sexually.
2. The warmness and familiarity of the pub, the chatter, the smell, the taste of beer, Mick is enjoying his pre Xmas joy, the snow falling outside. Leaving the pub to get home with his mate, poor visibility, they hear the scream of somebody and watch a creature devouring flesh in its sharp piranha like teeth, ripping, tearing, sucking. Back to the pub they go to barricade themselves. A pot boiling, somebody's skin burning, the eyes turning white, steaming as another is sprayed like a Jackson Pollack painting of blood.

Fantastic! Lee Richmond 's story is funny and gory with a big dollop of crazy thrown in for good measure! Well written and highly entertaining! Mark Green 's story is a darker, more serious tale, with plenty of gore, that makes it difficult to put down. Another highly entertaining book by these two awesome horror writers!

This book was a BLAST.

I've read one other story by Lee Richmond, Tits and Teeth, and had so much fun I knew I needed to read more by this author. I am so glad that I picked up this one.

This book includes two Christmas horror shorts- by two authors. Both bloody and gory and creepy- I loved them.

The first, Driving Home for Christmas by Lee Richmond was a quick brutal spin on Santa and his elves. I devoured this story. The elves and lore were both creepy and disturbing and the ending was perfection.

The second story,Do you Hear What I Hear, by Mark M J Green was quite a bit longer than its predecessor, and I enjoyed every single moment. This story was dark so, so dark ( I mean the scene with the boiling soup!? c'mon!) it had monsters and also claustraphonic horror mixed in- a delightful combination. The monsters in this were disgusting and wicked and will haunt me for life. I love the dark and twisted take on Santa and the fact that while this story was super creepy and horrific it made me actually laugh out loud several times. Horror + comedy = sublime entertainment.

If you're looking for a creepy Christmas horror you should absolutely give this one a read.

Ho-Ho-Horror!

Two awesome Christmas horror stories packed into one book! From The cover I really didn't know what to expect. I am so glad I grabbed this book!
You could clearly see the different writing styles of Richmond and Green. But they compliment each other perfectly.
Both stories will keep you turning the pages.
Driving Home For Christmas will have you laughing with it's almost comedic blood thirsty elves and a hero who isn't in the best shape. The ending had me yelling "You get em Gary!" I'm so happy that's how the author chose to end his story.
Do You Hear What I Hear a folk horror story that will hit you in the feels. The creepy vibes continue to grow as the story progresses.

I was sent a copy of “Do you hear what I hear” by Green.

Having read “Birdsong” I already knew the author had an enticing writing style, but was not prepared to be drawn into this story the way I was.
The writing is highly atmospheric, and absolutely entertaining.
The change in POV took me by surprise, and I loved every minute of it.

I look forward to reading a more of Green, and will expand this review when I’ve read the second story in this book by Lee Richmond.

Jingle Hells contains two Christmas themed short stories, one by each author. I enjoyed both tales, Do You Hear What I hear was my favorite. Driving Home For Christmas was a lot of fun. This is a very solid creature feature collection.
