I like Boris Bacic quite a bit. I am also a big fan of the Resident Evil games. So i was really torn on how to word my review here, as the book has a ton of Resident Evil-esque scenes, characters, etc. And the author even referenced RE at one point, too. So I was about to give it a 3/5, but I fell victim to my aforementioned statements. I liked enough of the material to round up. I looked beyond the things that felt like I was reading a video game on paper, and tried to focus more on the writing quality, characters, conclusion, etc. The book is a good time, and is filled with creatures, a spooky mansion, tons of action, decent characters (One of which is able to make sweet animalistic nookies directly after being tortured and losing a few fingers?!), and, of course, blood. Oh yes, there is blood. I think the butler was probably my favorite part of the book and I kept imagining him as the Tall Man from Phantasm (BOY!). Now on the ending, it was ok, but I didn’t love it. It just felt like a rather unsatisfactory conclusion to everything, but was an ending nonetheless. So, again, I liked a lot here, and fans of Resident Evil will enjoy this book for the nostalgic aspects (Specifically RE1), and those not familiar with the games may actually like it more, as it will all seem brand new to them. So I settled on a 4/5, but with a fair amount of critiques.

The Grayson Legacy - 4/5
By Boris Bacic

I really enjoyed this book - I was expecting another creepy, chilling horror, but what we got instead was a tense thriller instead.

Action packed and fast paced yet another book by Boris Bacic I could not put down! If you love a good sci-fi thriller, this is the book for you!

Interesting starts out creepy but I felt like there was some that lost me in the middle. Blair and Alex are ex lovers and they are trying to find dirt on Gary Grayson regarding a missing girl. But they got soooooo much more than they bargained for. After breaking into the Grayson Mansion Blair and Alex realize that this is not going to go how they thought. A call to the cops finds them still trapped in the mansion. Trying to find a way out they stumble on the true legacy that Grayson was trying to leave. A new strain of illness. And experimentation! People suffering the effects. Will they get sick from the illness? Will they get out? Or will they be new captives of Grayson Mansion?

Reporters sure do go to great lengths for a story. Determination and grit only makes them more determined when it’s personal. Unfortunately the MCs in this book learn far too late how wrong their decision to break and enter into the Grayson Manor. Known to be owned by a wealthy, reclusive and shady owner these two novices head inside looking for proof of something nefarious having happened to a mutual friend. It took a lil bit to realize this wasn’t a slasher read but something else entirely. Heroine brings up Resident Evil and she’s not too far off track. Was a fairly quick and creepy read.

An intense pseudo 'locked room' horror involving two investigative journalists night of terror inside the home of Gary Grayson. Once they're in, there's no escape. There were a lot of unexpected twists and turns and I loved the ending. My only complaint Major annoyance but overall a great short horror story.

Alex and Blaire are journalists looking for the “next, great story”! They may found that story! They have heard that the famous, rich, and absolutely disgusting Gary Grayson may have had something to do with the disappearance of a young woman. Now this would be the story of a lifetime. This could make their careers! But they will need to be able to prove that this story is true. A career making story will come with a career saving cover-up. How will they find the proof? They decide to break into the Grayson Mansion. Risky? Worth it if they can find the facts they need. What was the worst that could happen? Well, maybe getting caught and going to jail? How will that affect their career paths? They outlined all the pros and cons. They think they know what they are getting into. But did they? Once inside the house they find they can’t get out and they are not alone. Once again Bacic has written a thrilling, yet frightening story. Plan a few hours to set aside so that you can read this story all in one setting. You are not going to want to set this story down until you have read it from cover to cover. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.

Was a quick read, at least. Characters were infuriatingly bad. Blaire absolutely had a menwritingwomen feel, and felt like a frustrating cariacature of a woman written through a male gaze lens. Ending was rushed, plot was disjointed, the motivation was unbelievable. Writing was okay in places, but overall dry and repetitive and felt amateur. Definitely felt self-published. ( And can we mention: the random sex scene, really?? )

That said, I went into it blind and wasn't sure what to expect. I love zombie/medical horror so this one got a bonus for that. There were some genuinely tense and scary moments. I think this writer generally would have promise, but the writing felt rushed, like he was trying to hurry through writing the story to get it done.

Did I love this book? No Hate it? No *spoilers*

On multiple occasions I wanted to quit reading this book, but I guess curiosity got the best of me. Mostly because the author's other book Yokai Island was hard to get into and it ended up being so good! Unfortunately, for me this one just fell flat. The basic kind of zombie premise was not my cup of tea (though I don't really enjoy anything zombie like). Although his approach was minutely different, but not really. Yeah though it held my attention, mostly, it didn't do it for me.

Really enjoyed this book! I loved the way it ended not in a happy way. Because let's me honest not all stories end happily!
Definitely a book that left you wanting to read more and find out what happens! The writing was well done and the story line was unique and interesting the entire time!

As far as the audio book side of things ...it was AWFUL! The person reading was very bland. You could here when the reader was turning on and off the recorder or rustling pages at some points. The sound was wildly inconsisten from chapter to chapter.

I would definitely read this book again but I would never listen to the audio book again!

Alex and Blaire are journalist, friends, and former romantic partners. Blaire is trying to find a missing person one she believes was last seen alive at the creepy Grayson Manor she grabs Alex and off they go. Sneaking around the Manor to find proof the problem is this mission takes a turn for the worst and continues to get creepy. Add in a killer butler, some kind of science lab (think resident evil), nasty zombie things, a virus meant to be a cure, and Mr. Grayson (rich old guy dying of cancer) who is willing to have one last LEGACY.

Alex and Blaire are freelance journalists that are about to do some illegal things in order to capture the perfect story. Gary Grayson is a multi millionaire that lives in a secluded estate.
Lots of rumors abound concerning Mr. Grayson as well as his estate being connected with some missing people.
But Alex and Blaire are determined to get to the truth...even if it costs them their sanity and possibly their very lives.

Enjoyed this immensely!! Gave me a Resident Evil type of atmosphere!!
Got this as a free ebook when signing up for author's newsletter however this review is all mine.

Freelance journalists, Blaire and Alex, are on the trail of a story of a missing girl and break into Grayson Manor, the home of a wealthy recluse. The house is a labyrinth and once they escape into the grounds their night descends into terror. What started as a simple investigation turns deadly.

This starts slowly but once the action starts it never lets up. This is extreme violence and gory body horror in an isolated location. This plays out as a horror thriller, what is Grayson up to, what is prowling in the forest, where is the missing girl? Fans of Resident Evil will enjoy this!

“We’re seriously sneaking into a dangerous, rich old man’s mansion on account of a few rumors?”

More or less, Alex.

So…it’s mid-September, and Alex (31) and Blaire (30) are vigilante journalists. Attempting to kickstart their fledgling careers, the pair sneak onto the property of Gary Grayson.

Grayson is extremely affluent, yet remains reclusive and mysterious.

Strong prose. Unique but effective narrative flow.

We learn that Blaire and Alex actually dated for three years, and broke up five months ago.

The mannequin, the cop…hell, even Butler Jonas are just warm-ups for the main event.

Intense and scary. Overall—straightforward yet engrossing.

That is some ending.

I've enjoyed reading books written by Boris Bacic. They are always imaginative and 'edge of your seat' creepy. Sometimes, the horror is in your face terrifying. Other times, it slowly creeps up on you. You realize the room is a bit darker, or there is a strange noise you don't recognize. Most of us won't have access to a soundproof room, so I recommend turning on more lights. The Grayson Legacy is one of those books. It is a really good creepy story. If you've not read other books by author Boris Bacic, I highly recommend that you check out his other book. -Mr.Bill

This book is a grabber. Grabbed my attention from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. The characters have a great depth to them and I could totally relate to the ultimate horror and despair that they were going through. I kept trying to figure out the next logical place the story would take the reader and was totally flummoxed at each turn. So if you like thriller/horror books, don't pass this one up. Keep up the good work Boris.

This was an incredible read! I enjoyed the plot, the writings, every thing about it. There was rekindled romance, fear, intrigue, death, crazies and a surprise ending.wish it would have ended differently but all in all a good book! It almost has a Sci-fi feel to it. Which I usually don’t like or read. But this was very good!

The stuff of nightmares!

This tale was far too gory for my tastes. A medical horror, a deadly virus getting out into the world, zombie blood lust, this story has the lot. It was a well constructed tale, just over the top with its extreme gory violence.

A quite disturbing tale of attrocities committed in the name of medical research in the pursuit of the cure for all ailments. Well worth reading, but if you are looking for a happy ending, this is not for you.

Thank You Tiffany Koplin and Boris Bacic

This Novella is a slow character build up with a great closing. Two Former Romantic Partners join forces to track down possible "the Big Story" that will make their Journalistic Careers. I Recommend this story.

I read this book in just a few hours on my kindle so it must have been a shorter book. I assume the butler is still living in the mansion, his storyline just ended literally at the back door. I expected to see him later in the story. And how did Alex get infected? Water? I have questions.
