So, some of you have no doubt been following this case since the first news item aired, some of you have only just discovered the Watts’ case since watching the Netflix documentary, some of you may have read both books 1 and 2 in this series and there will no doubt be others who haven’t read or watched anything and this is your first introduction to what happed that fateful night 13th August, 2018. With those in mind, I will recap briefly the series so far…
In Cold Blood: Discovering Chris Watts - Part One - The Facts We guess it’s safe to say most people will have heard of the Watts case. Christopher (Chris) Lee Watts, the dashing, seemingly genteel, affable man who murdered his entire family in a calculated attack that shocked the entire world. Shanann Watts, his pregnant, incredibly beautiful wife whose life was snuffed out because her doting husband decided he wanted a fresh start. Bella Marie and Celeste Cathryn (CeCe) Watts, adorable sisters who worshipped their father, the very man who suffocated them both in cold blood using their comfort blankets against them. He then went on to dispose of their tiny bodies into huge tanks filled with toxic crude oil. Nico Lee Watts, Chris and Shanann’s unborn son.
During this series we will look at the facts, the police investigation, the evidence, hear Chris Watts’ explanation and his reasoning. We will try to make some sense of what occurred during the early hours of August 13th 2018. We will endeavour to present to you all aspects of the case, right from the initial investigation and how it unfolded, to the first and subsequent confessions all transcribed word for word (where possible) from actual video and audio footage obtained from the FBI’s Discovery Files.
A Deal With the Devil - Discovering Chris Watts - Part Two - The Facts At the end of book one, Chris Watts had finally confessed to murdering his beautiful family and disposing of their bodies at an oil field.
In part two, we focus on… •… the grim discovery and recovery of the bodies. •… the chilling details of the autopsies. •… the remaining police interviews of Nichol Kessinger. •… the Plea Deal. •… the sentencing. •… Chris Watts Prison Interview.
What to expect in this book…
The Truth Within the Lies: Discovering Chris Watts - Part Three – The Theories
For anyone new to this case, the first thing they ask is why? And unfortunately no amount of reading, or watching, or studying will answer that for you. The only person who knows the absolute truth is Chris Watts himself, and for some reason he has refused to confess all up to now. Oh yes, he’s confessed to much of it, but there are so many discrepancies, changed statements, obvious lies and omissions. The online True Crime Community is rife with scenarios and theories and some of them are eye-poppingly, jaw-droppingly valid. So we’ve given you the facts, and now we intend to put forward some of the theories to see if we can work out which truths have been weaved through the lies and vice-versa.
Please note: These theories are not the opinions of the authors and in no way are they saying these events are actually true. But they are most definitely food for thought…
I doubt very much that many people do not know of Chris Watts and the crimes he committed against his pregnant wife and two young daughters. He had a girlfriend ... that should say it all. I suppose divorce would have been too expensive .... so murder was a better option. The number 1 cause of death to pregnant women ... is murder.
This is the third in this series, and I highly recommend starting at the beginning. These authors have given so much new information ... such as all the court transcripts, the emails back and forth from husband to wife, husband to girlfriend, wife to husband.
Watts came up with 3 justifications (in his own mind) ... but are any of them true? Watts is a liar and most would find anything he says a lie. The only person who knows the real truth is Watts himself .. and he's not talking.
The first two books in this series have given the reader all the facts as they are known. Book 3 shows us the theories, maybe conspiracies, that are rumored.
Please note: These theories are not the opinions of the authors and in no way are they saying these events are actually true. But they are most definitely food for thought…
This is a well written report following a horrific crime. It's a must-read for anyone who is a True Crime buff.
Many thanks to the authors for the digital copy of this thought-provoking true crime reporting. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
If you know anything or nothing at all about the Watts family murder case, this book will open your eyes to the events that lead up to a horrific crime that rocked a nation.
Chris Watts has been convicted of killing his wife and children, but why and how he pulled off these murders are still a mystery.
With multiple confessions and conflicting stories, I have no idea what is to be believed. This book lays out the facts and multiple theories for the reader to mull over and make their own decisions, draw their own conclusions.
I thoroughly recommend True Crime Readers to get this book and especially if you have followed The Watts Case. This book really opened my eyes to some of the theories that are out there concerning the heartbreaking murders of Shanann, Bella, Celeste and Baby Nico. I can see why some people believe in these theories. Personally I still believe the same as I have from the beginning. That is The Evil Monster Watts was having an affair with Nichol Kessinger, and between them (and I definitely believe Kessinger was involved somewhere along the line) they put their evil minds to work and destroyed 4 beautiful lives. In my honest opinion Watts should be on Death Row and Kessinger should be brought to justice for the part she paid in this and not being placed in Witness Protection, being offered counselling and being allowed to change her name. They should both rot in hell for all eternity, but then again even The Devil himself has some standards. My prayers go to The Rzucek Family.
This book has truly opened my eyes again, to wicked crimes committed by Chris Watts against his own Family, as we read about the various theories. An absolute page turner, that is hard to stop thinking about long after you’ve finished reading it. There were so many missed opportunities by the Police investigating the case, making me think that there is so much more that wasn’t uncovered. I really hope that one day the whole truth comes out.
This is the final part of this series. I haven't stopped thinking about this case since I read the first book. Chris Watts murdered his pregnant wife and 2 beautiful , ........ why!!!!! Will we ever know why!!!! My head has been spinning trying to figure it out. I have my own opinion on a certain person who was interviewed by the police, a lot of things don't add up. If you enjoy reading true crime, this is the series for you.
This is part three in the series and it provides a good recap with some additional details. But the wide range of theories really caught my attention. Some I had thought myself, others never came to mind. I'm not sure we will ever truly know all the facts in this case and only one person knows the whole truth, or is it possible someone else does too? Grab a copy and see for yourself. Such a thought provoking read.
We have been given the facts as we know them in two gripping books. This one is entirely different as it details the various theories - what could have happened, and whether there was a partner in crime. Gripping stuff that makes the reader think there is more to the story than Watts ever admitted to, and certain elements the police should have looked into. A brilliant read!
This was probably my favorite of the three books. The authors basically set out the various scenarios that "could have happened" other than what Chris Watts admitted to.
Seeing all the scenarios side by side made me re-think everything I thought I knew about this case.
I like that the authors do not give their opinions, but rather set it all out for us to decide.
Its truly maddening and sad that Watts probably lied or at the very least, kept a lot to himself.
I wonder how Nichol, his mistress, ended up in Witness Protection?! Odd.
This guy is a master liar and manipulator and it is scary how he does it all - even inside that prison.
The previous books pulled together a solid series of events and pulled together so many of the interrogations well, really seemed to be a one size of all the communication that was all over the place and fragmented, this 78 page book but that’s really a book. I was expecting the quality of information in books one and two. All this one did is pass along a silver of different theories that left so many open ended questions. Why wasn’t NK asked to do a lie detector? What other internet searches do we know happened. So much of the last theory show the lack of focus in trying to lay out each theory and what I wanted was a lot more info about each theory. Books one and two were AMAZING, this felt sloppy and barely skimmed the surface.
I know a lot about this case and watched the interview footage, but this was helpful because I missed a lot of what was being said. When I read the transcript, I got some fresh insights.
It is so incredibly clear how outmatched this nitwit was up against professionals. It just adds to the tragedy of the crime that this was not anything that he was ever going to get away with. So why do it? He folds immediately after knowing that Nikki turned on him. Did she think she would never question him when his family vanished into thin air? It makes no sense to me at all. But I guess the tragedy is that at the time, it made sense to him.
I would not of even given this book a 1 , if I didnt have to. Only because I did not complete the book. My 1 pet peeve is authors who write books and do not spell check their words in the story they had written. My view is that you obviously didnt care enough about your book to do so. So why would I want to continue reading it???!!!! I got to Chapter 3, where the time is written down as to the phone calls etc..Chris made and received. It starts out A.M then goes to P.M.. Then back to A.M!!! A good and conscientious writer would of noticed this mistake early in the book....if it had of been proof read! Sorry! Not Sorry!!
I have followed this case since it began and have read several books about it. This trilogy was absolutely awesome. There were several of my questions answered, or at least theories addressed. We probably will never know the real truth, because Chris isn't saying, and there will be no trial to hear evidence, so I guess we'll just have to be satisfied with what we have heard/read. Maybe in the future he will tell all - truthfully! I am waiting for that to happen.
I found the Watts murders intriguing after watching the Netflix documentary. I had heard of the case in 2018 but only in passing.
This book explores possible explanations for the murders. Why did Chris Watts murder his family? Was it planned? Was he helped? Was his mistress involved? Will Chris ever reveal what really happened?
Overall I enjoyed the book. There is some reputation but that’s to be expected. If you enjoy true crime and are seeking answers in regards to the Watts murders, read this book.
The writing style of the two authors is concise but easily understood at the same time. I like the way they present the facts first - then they go into all the various theories. Plus they summarize very nicely the day of the murders and provide the reader with a timeline of the events. This is a really fascinating story, and this book provides some new information that I had never heard before. You will want to read it all in one sitting - like I did!!!
I like many people have been stuck on Watts Island for quite sometime. My obsession is over the fact that I believe NK had more involvement than she or Chris said. This book went into every avenue. It plainly explained all of the evidence and the theories that people have. There was a few things that was new to me. So for that I was happy to read. This was an easy read, very easy to follow even though the theories around NK are plenty.
I enjoyed this investigation into the murders, and it was interesting to have the actual timeline . The multiple theories of the crime are tricky. You can see how the events went down very clearly, then the next one is set forth and it seems equally possible. I'm still not sure what I believe! But, it was definitely worth the read!
I thought surely there was no reason for a 3rd book & I was WRONG. I totally believe there is way more to this story and the way they went through the details of the theories was super helpful. Now I am going to read their other books. These authors are awesome
Most people say it's nothing different from what's out there in discovery. It's true but that's all really anybody knows. This case is so unsettling because we believe there is more to this story.
This is a good book that recaps some of book 1 & 2 and gives theories that are out there. There are many theories and no one may ever know the truth except Chris.
Interesting book that makes you think on what you really think happened.
This book is absolutely fascinating. I loved the reading layout and the way in which the authors take us through the sequence of events based on the evidence, in chronological order. An excellent round up of books 1 and 2, but with some added information including the conspiracy theories which are intriguing. My mind is boggled!
