Loving him could save you…
Sold. Betrayed. Manipulated. I’ve been through it all, and yet here I am, still unwilling to walk away from the Don who bought me. I never expected for this to be my life, but right or wrong, I’ve made my choice, and from here, there’s no turning back. Now, as Mateo and I try to navigate a world rocked by misinformation and manipulation, I find myself at the mercy of an enemy. It seems as if the harder we fight to be together, the more the world tries to tear us apart, and as the tension mounts, so does the fight for our lives. Dreams are destroyed. Bounties are set. And as Mateo gears up for war, I gear up for something much greater. . . Because it seems the only way to save myself, is to betray the woman I used to be.
Traitor is the third book in the dark mafia romance trilogy, Sold to The Don, from author Callie Vincent. This book contains dark themes and is intended for readers 18+
My final rating for this book was a 3.25. Traitor is the final book of the series and although I had hoped that this series would turn around for me, it did not. I will stress what I wrote in my review of the first book....it was too long. The plot for this series had merit, it just wasn't presented well. Too much unnecessary dialogue surrounding punishment or torture of Beverly throughout the series and her uncanny ability to bounce back from near death so quickly along with Mateo's inability to be one step ahead of his rivals. The constant back and forth got tedious with Lorenzo with opportunities to end him, and still Mateo let him live to raise his ugly head again and again.
The end result after three books ending in mommy dearest's death was a long time coming. Beverly's reaction to it was not what I expected. Given what her mother had put her through as well as what she had endured due to her mother's actions still resulted in Bev feeling loss when her mother was finally killed. I understand that it was her mother, but honestly what kind of vile character treats her daughter in such a heinous way and that daughter still has feelings for her.
The back and forth scenes between Mateo and Beverly in the bedroom with either punishment or hot sex got repetitious too. One minute he was marking her because he strangled her in a rage and the next minute he was having her drop to her knees.
Mateo's character seemed slow to grasp what was right under his nose in relationship to his wife his bodyguard and some of his men. The end finally brings everything into perspective and Mateo and Bev get their version of an HEA with Mateo divorcing his arranged marriage (finally) and with them planning their future wedding. The story had it's moments there just weren't enough of them.
Overall, came full circle and a conclusion to the trilogy. Matteo/Charlotte - the Lucchese syndicate - Gloria Pettigrew, there was no ending to their crimes.
This was definitely a Dark read in the sense of death/manipulation/flesh selling/abuse and hot sexual encounters.
No spoiling as one needs to read to comprehend the trilogy. Callie Vincent is exceptional in her writing. May not suit many readers as is demeaning to humanity. Be prepared to enter the rabbit hole of distrust, death, abuse…… and more.
I read all three books, and my review is that I did not like it. There were a lot of grammar errors that threw me off. A lot of the scenarios were confusing, and some events didn't make sense. If I hadn't purchased all three at the same time, I wouldn't have read them. The sex scenes were disappointing as well. Overall, I just didn't enjoy this series
You must read this series! Kept me on edge to the end. Dissecting the players was interesting. Figuring out how it would all play out was a slippery slope. In the end, couldn't have asked for a better ending! Great job Callie!
Teo and Char really went through a lot to take down the trafficking ring and to finally be together forever. Sad to see it end but a really great little series.
