1964. His parents return to France and move to the country to raise their four children, born in Morocco and Madagascar.
1970-1979. He moves to Paris. An unruly student, he is particularly ill-disposed to doing schoolwork and is sent to three different lycées (Victor Duruy, Buffon, Camille Sée). As a teenager he reads Hesse and Dostoyevsky, kindling his interest in existential questions. At 15 he develops a passion for philosophy after reading Plato’s Dialogues, and in astrology from reading books by André Barbault.
1980-1985. The Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung has a profound effect on his intellectual direction, triggering a desire to study mankind’s great myths and religions. After an early fascination with Asian spirituality, in particular Tibetan Buddhism, discovered through the work of Chogyam Trungpa, he develops an interest in the Kabbalah and begins taking classes in the symbolism of Hebrew letters. He has no particular interest in studying Christianity, however. His Catholic upbringing, although very liberal, had focused too much on dogma and morality. Then, at 19, he reads the Gospels for the first time, and is amazed by them. He begins studying philosophy at the University of Fribourg, in Switzerland, with his childhood friend Emmanuel Rouvillois, who later becomes a monk by the name of Brother Samuel; there, he meets two crucial and outstanding professors: the Dominican philosopher Marie-Dominique Philippe (with whom he writes a book of interviews, Les trois sagesses, in 1994) and the philosopher and Talmud scholar Emmanuel Lévinas who, as a testament, leaves him a fine text on ethics in his book Le Temps de la responsabilité (1991). Parallel to his philosophy studies, he goes on a personal spiritual quest that leads him to spend several months in Israel and India, as well as in Christian hermitages and monasteries in France.
1986. As editor of the religion department at Editions Fayard, he publishes several books examining philosophical and spiritual themes.
1991. He resigns from his position as editor to devote more time to academic research and writing, and begins work on a doctoral thesis on Buddhism in the West at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales.
1992. Passionate about ecological issues, he helps found the association ‘‘Environnement sans frontières.’’ In 2003 he publishes a book of interviews with his friend Hubert Reeves, who sounds the alarm on the risks threatening the planet. (Mal de Terre).
1994. He is appointed associate researcher at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). Following in the footsteps of Edgar Morin, one of his intellectual mentors, he takes on the issue of religion in a multi-disciplinary approach combining philosophy, sociology and history.
1997. He writes l’Encyclopédie des religions, conceived and compiled with Ysé Tardan-Masquelier, (2500 pages, 2 volumes, 150 collaborators).
1996-2000. He writes for L’Express on a regular basis.
1998. He writes and directs an international study about sects for television with Lolande Cadrin-Rossignol. The documentary series, entitled ‘‘Sectes, mensonges et idéaux’’ (‘‘Sects, Lies and Ideals’’), is broadcast in France on the Cinquième channel and in numerous other countries. He also co-writes a documentary about the Dalai Lama that is broadcast on Canal +, and a series of three 52’ episodes on the Cinquième channel entitled ‘‘Dieu a changé d’adresse’’ (‘’God has changed his address’’).
1998-2005. He writes a number of books − some alone, others with Catherine David and Jean-Philippe de Tonnac − of interviews with such diverse figures as Abbé Pierre, Umberto Eco, Stephen Jay Gould, Jean Vanier, Hubert Reeves and Jean-Claude Carrière.

Un livre se présentant comme une exploration de la sagesse soit disant de façon areligieuse mais qui en fait est énormément tourner vers une conception du monde et anthropologique orientale/bouddhiste. Malgré le fait que l'auteur dit avoir été moine, il fait des erreurs et de gros raccourci théologique en ce qui concerne la religion (sa définition de la religion est franchement très personnelle) et en particulier la religion chrétienne. Je n'ai pas appris grand chose et avait même plutôt envie de corriger se que disait l'auteur...

Yazarın Spinoze Mucizesi isimli kitabını da okuyup çok beğenmiştim (tabi ben kim oluyorum da kitabı beğeniyorum orası ayrı konu). Bu kitapta da aklımda oturtamadığım bazı sorulara cevaplar buldum ya da kendim yazdım ondan da emin değilim ama iyi ki okudum diyorum

Normal şartlarda böyle başlığı olan kitaplardan koşarak kaçarım ancak yakın zaman önce aynı yazarın Spinoza Felsefesi’ni incelediği bir kitabını okuduğumdan bu kitaba şans tanıdım. İyi ki de tanımışım, böylece kitabın başlığının da çeviri kurbanı olduğunu görmüş oldum. Sohbet havasında soru-cevaplarla ilerleyen,yazara göre kendi hayat yolculuğunda ona referans olan noktaları,kaynakları anlatam bir kitap…
H ευτυχία ενός σοφού ανθρώπου δεν εξαρτάται τόσο από τα τυχαία γεγονότα του εξωτερικού κόσμου, εξαρτάται κυρίως από την αρμονία του εσωτερικού του κόσμου, βρίσκει ειρήνη ή χαρά στον εαυτό του και έτσι γίνεται ευτυχισμένος. Αντί να θέλει να προσαρμόσει τον κόσμο στις επιθυμίες του, προσπαθεί να αλλάξει τον εαυτό του.
Excellent petit ouvrage qui permet de relativiser les choses, de ressentir de la joie et de s'ouvrir à une autre expérience possible de soi et de sa vie. Frédéric Lenoir est toujours de bons conseils pour moi. Je me sens bien après avoir lu ses livres et je m'applique au moins à exercer ses conseils qui se révèlent efficaces.
Un petit traité sur la sagesse, hyper bien sourcé. Cette lecture rapide m’a fait beaucoup de bien. Ça permet de se recentrer sur les choses importantes. Très inspirant et ressourçant, comme toujours avec Frédéric Lenoir. Je recommande.
Υπέροχο μικρό βιβλίο. Είναι σε μορφή ερωταποκρισεων και ο Λενουαρ με απλό τρόπο καταγράφει βαθιές έννοιες της φιλοσοφίας. Με αναφορές στον Σπινόζα και τον Μονταιν αναπτύσει διάφορες οπτικές της φιλοσοφικής σκέψης με μια ροή που δεν κουράζει. Μικρο σε μέγεθος το διάβασα σε ένα πρωινό. Το προτείνω.
Frédéric Lenoir, yeni tanıştığım ama çok sevdiğim arkadaşım artık. Okudukça okuyasım geliyor. Metin tek başına, geri planına hakim olmadan, “kişisel gelişim kitabı” gibi gelebilir. Yine de herkese çok tavsiye ederim. Ben diğer Lenoir kitabımla yolculuğa devam ediyorum.
Καλογραμμένο απλό και κατανοητό. Για όσους έχουμε ασχοληθεί λίγο με εσωτερισμό και διαβάζουμε σχετικά βιβλία, αφορά πράγματα χιλιο- ειπομένα. Για κάποιον που ξεκινά τώρα να προσεγγίζει θέματα φιλοσοφίας, αυτό το βιβλίο με τη λιτή του γλώσσα είναι μια καλή αρχή 🪷🪷🪷
Ce livre est pour moi ma boussole. Parfois lorsque j'ai l'impression de perdre mon chemin dans ma vie, je reviens à ce livre pour me rappeler ce qui est vraiment important. Il me rappelle qui je suis aussi quelque part, ma nature et ma mission de vie.
Un livre enrichissant et instructif , une sagesse bien expliquée, bien simplifiée. Un essai avec une langue simple et claire, accessible à tout le monde. Il n' y a pas d'ambiguïté.
Honnêtement, j'ai lit ce livre pour améliorer mon Français. j'ai apprécié son avis en tant qu'idéal mais, c'est difficile que les gens puissent mettre ces pensées en pratique.

Si vous me suivez depuis un moment, vous savez peut-être que j’aime beaucoup les écrits de Frédéric Lenoir. Son petit traité de vie intérieure m’a passionnée et fait depuis partie des lectures de développement personnel que je recommande toujours. “La sagesse expliquée…” se présente sous forme d’un entretien philosophique entre Lenoir et nous, lecteur, qui sommes en quête de sagesse. Aspirer à la sagesse, nous dit l’auteur, c’est aspirer à grandir autant qu’on le peut en acceptant ses limites, ses vulnérabilités et ses fragilités. Cultiver la sagesse, c’est accepter ce qui est, en toute humilité; cela mène à une vie bonne et heureuse. Aussi, Frédéric Lenoir redéfinit le bonheur et ses obstacles dans notre société. Comme son titre l’indique, ce livre s’adresse particulièrement aux personnes qui cherchent l’harmonie et la sagesse, et qui, j’en conclue, n’ont pas encore beaucoup de connaissances des notions de développement personnel. Peut-être est-ce parce que tous les concepts énoncés me sont apparus comme de simples rappels que je n’ai pas été transcendée par ma lecture. Je me rends compte qu’à force de lire du développement personnel, on a tendance à souvent relire les mêmes choses. Néanmoins, j’ai trouvé ce livre très enrichissant et en retiens des leçons bonnes à rappeler.
